Just in time for Christmas, I am delivering the goods on the long awaited Here Comes Calico issue #8. If you're an animal lover, you're gonna like Calico. This character delivers justice for the animals that are needlessly mistreated. Calico's brand of justice is meted out with a big heaping spoonful of violence. Just think of him like Punisher meets PETA.
Calico is the main character of the story, but he isn't the only interesting one. There are several very compelling characters introduced in this mini-series with some interesting sub-plots. I did get H.H. to to divulge, that this mini series isn't the last we will see of Calico or his plethora of supporting cast. I am looking forward to seeing the origin of The Jiggler and the rise of Kingman just to name a few. Show your love by backing his kickstarter for issue #8. I am a big fan of mystery boxes. It's kinda like Christmas or my birthday when I get one in the mail. I was a subscriber to BamBox, but alas, they are going away. In my search to find another mystery box subscription to fill that void I discovered Antihero Gallery!
Being a big fan of comic books, they definitely scratch that itch for me. They have a plethora of really cool variant covers you can purchase directly or you can try your luck with a mystery box. I opted for the CGC Blitz Box II.
This box has one CGC graded variant comic and 6 ungraded variants. 5 of the 6 variants I received were virgin variants, which was a very unexpected boost to my haul. This box cost $132.45 with tax, shipping, and a discount. After checking prices on these comics the value comes out around $280. I find this mystery box subscription to be well worth it, especially for collectors like me that love those beautiful variant covers.
I recommend trying Antihero Gallery whether you want to just buy a variant or two or if you want the thrill of opening that mystery box.

I received an email from BamBox saying they were moving offices and found some stuff that had been stashed away and forgotten until they started packing up. One of those items was Devil's Reign: X-men #1 signed and CGC witnessed by Vincent D'onofrio. Devil's Reign is a good story-line from Marvel that centers on Daredevil/Kingpin, but it does crossover to a few other titles (like X-men). The gist of the story is Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin is mayor of NYC. He decides he wants to get rid of all those pesky mutants. How the X-men tie into it is Kingpin wants to get rid of the Krakoan tree portal the X-men have in NYC. There is a fair bit of Emma Frost flexing, Daredevil & Elektra fighting, and a smidgen of Purple Man added to make things interesting.
The story alone wasn't enough to make me want to buy this slab. The Vincent D'onofrio autograph on that cover with the amazing artwork depicting Kingpin is what sold it for me. Vincent is a very versatile actor who has portrayed many fan favorite characters in movies and TV. Some of his more memorable for me are Private Pyle from Fullmetal Jacket, Bill Newman in JFK, Edgar in Men in Black, Carl Stargher in the Cell, Vic Hosking in Jurassic World, Robert Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Wlison Fisk (Kingpin) in the MCU. He brings a little something special to each of these characters.
I think if you are a fan of both the X-men and Vincent D'onofrio as I am, this signed slab is an amazing piece. Even if you are just a D'onofrio fan, having his autograph on this comic about one of his most popular characters is a great addition to your collection. If you could care less about Vincent D'onofrio or you don't collect autographs, you would be better served just picking up a raw copy of the comic or an unsigned slab.

This diorama is from Star Wars Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 10. Darth Maul wrested control of the Mandalorians by defeating Pre Vizla and taking ownership of the Dark Saber. Darth Maul still harbored incredible hatred toward Obi-Wan Kenobi. He also knew of the Emperor's plans of grooming Anakin Skywalker to be his next apprentice. I stayed a night in a real Bonafide castle in Clontarf located just 5 miles outside of Dublin. Clontarf Castle is a modernized castle dating to 1837. The Clontarf area is famous as a key location of the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. There has been a castle on the site since 1172. In modern times, it has functioned as a bar, cabaret venue, and hotel.

I recently purchased the Premium Collectible Studios One Six Scale Future Revolution Magneto Statue (Supreme Edition) from Sideshow and I am blown away by the level of detail and craftsmanship that went into this piece. The statue stands at an impressive 19.5 inches tall, 13 inches wide, and 11 inches deep. It really captures the character's iconic costume and helmet perfectly.
The attention to detail is what really sets this statue apart. From the intricate detailing on the costume to the dynamic pose of the character, every aspect of the statue has been carefully crafted to bring the character to life. The magnetic force effects that twist around the character are an amazing feature, adding an extra layer of realism to the piece.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of the Premium Collectible Studios One Six Scale Future Revolution Magneto Statue from Sideshow. I recently purchased the Sideshow Batman Premium Format statue and I have to say, I am extremely impressed. The level of detail on this statue is simply astounding. From the intricate folds of Batman's cape, to the realistic wrinkles on his suit, every aspect of this statue has been carefully crafted to accurately represent the Dark Knight.
One of the things that I love most about this statue is the pose. Batman is depicted mid-stride, with his cape billowing behind him and his fists clenched, ready for action. This dynamic pose perfectly captures the character's powerful and determined spirit.
The materials used to create the statue are also top-notch. The statue is made of high-quality polystone, which gives it a hefty, high-end feel. The paint job is also impressive, with each color expertly applied to create a lifelike appearance.

Derry is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Ireland. It boasts the only remaining completely intact walled city in Ireland. The Walls were built 1613–1619 as defense for early 17th century settlers from England and Scotland.
To walk the entire Wall is a distance of approximately one mile (1.5 kilometers). The Wall varies in height and width between 12 to 35 feet (3.7 to 10.7 meters).
The four original gates are Bishop's Gate, Ferryquay Gate, Butcher Gate, and Shipquay Gate. The Magazine Gate, Castle Gate, and New Gate were added later making a total of seven gates.
It is one of the few cities in Europe that never saw its fortifications breached. It withstood several sieges, including the famous Siege of Derry in 1689 which lasted 105 days.

Arby's believes they have the spiciest sandwich on the market. The sandwich has five sources of spice, including a layer of ghost pepper jack cheese, fiery hot seasoning, fire-roasted jalapenos, a special BBQ sauce and it's all placed in between a red chipotle bun. Customers can choose a crispy chicken patty or smoked brisket for the protein, I chose smoked brisket. They even include a 12-ounce vanilla milkshake for free to cool your mouth down between bites.
"This is not a sandwich for the faint of heart," said Patrick Schwing, chief marketing officer of Arby's, in a release. "Everyone in the quick service restaurant industry says they have a spicy option, but our research tells us that consumers are disappointed by fast food claims of spicy."

Jumped on a train from Belfast to Portrush, Northern Ireland. Portrush is a seaside resort town and I was there during the off-season. I kinda equate it with Jersey Shore or Coney Island. Since it was the off-season there was no wait to see anything, downside is there wasn't really much going on to go see.
This video is a quick highlight of the thing I saw and did in Belfast. Portrush is home to the Royal Portrush Golf Club, the only golf club outside Great Britain which has hosted The Open Championship in 1951 and 2019.

The ghost pepper, also known as bhut jolokia is an interspecific hybrid chili pepper cultivated in Northeast India. In 2007, Guinness World Records certified that the ghost pepper was the world's hottest chili pepper, 170 times hotter than Tabasco sauce. The ghost chili is rated at more than one million Scoville Heat Units (SHUs). However, in the race to grow the hottest chili pepper, the ghost chili was superseded by the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper in 2011 and the Carolina Reaper in 2013. Needless to say, Ghost Peppers are HOT! When I found out Burger King was making a special Ghost Pepper Whopper, I had to try it.

The McDonald's McRib wasn't a huge hit when it was first introduced. That might be because it came on a normal bun and the BBQ sauce was in a packet like their ketchup. They did a little revamp to make it what it is today. Now they bring the McRib back every once in a while, usually in the fall, to great fanfare. When the McRib is announced as being back on the menu, tons of people flock to McDonald's to get their fix.

I make the annual pilgrimage to the Mesilla Valley Maze in Las Cruces every year in October. There is a plethora of things to do and see there for all ages. The Ninja Turtles are one of the most popular comic book/cartoon franchises out there. The Last Ronin mini-series sold well enough to make the New York Times best seller list. This statue pays homage to that series.

Here Comes Calico from Sigma Comics has been firing on all cylinders! Great story - yup, who doesn't love seeing someone stand up to animal abusers? Good artwork - the visual aesthetic fits the story line and adds a little extra oomph to the overall experience. Compelling characters - there are enough interesting and relatable characters in the first five issues to launch endless spinoff stories. These aren't your run of the mill characters either. There is a gang of little people and one of the most feared crime bosses has Down Syndrome. This series does not shy away from using characters that fall outside the spectrum of normal comic book tropes.
The hero of the story is not against using extreme violence to extract justice for animals that are being abused. Blood, gore, and brutal reality are presented in the story in such a way that it doesn't feel forced. The violence in the story actually fits the narrative and helps define the main character, Calico. I like to describe this series as if The Boys and the SPCA had an illegitimate love child and named it Calico.
Issue 6 of 8 is launched on Kickstarter yesterday (October 26) and is already halfway to being funded. Please consider backing this project and help bring issue 6 to completion. There are lots of great support tiers and awesome perks. McDonald's is really going after that nostalgia. It has been 6 years (2016) since they have done the Happy Meal buckets for Halloween. I remember trick or treating back in the day and most of the kids were carrying these buckets to collect their candy. The poor kids like myself just carried our candy around in an old pillowcase.

This E.T. and Elliot statue captures the iconic moment from the movie where E.T. helps everyone escape from the authorities by levitating the bikes above the pursuers.

In the film, a group of botanical aliens secretly visit Earth at night to collect plant specimens. The creature ends up meeting a local boy named Elliott, who then goes on to hide and protect the little lost being on Earth, creating a tender bond of friendship with a deep empathic connection between them.

The Atari Graveyard was an urban legend for many years. The rumor was in 1983 Atari dumped a few semi truckloads of Atari product when the games market bottomed out. This was just after the infamous E.T. game that tanked (I personally kinda liked the game). They unfairly pinned the demise of Atari on the E.T. game so much that it became synonymous with video game failures.
In 2014 a group got together to either prove or disprove the urban legend. The old dumpsite had been closed and covered over for many years. Some of the old dump workers got together and their memories and pictures from when Atari arrived to dump stuff and they narrowed it down to about 4 acres of possibility. On April 16, 2014 they excavated some of the buried Atari products. The city of Alamogordo was allowed to keep some of the findings and they have been selling them on Ebay. For me, it is a very cool little nerdy thing to have. They will likely keep them listed on Ebay until they all sell. Just do a search for "Atari Burial Alamogordo" and you can buy your own piece of nerdy history.

New Mexico has a State Fair up in Albuquerque, but we do things differently here in Southern New Mexico. So much so that we have our own version of the state fair. I was there on Saturday and it was pretty packed. Lots of entertainment, fair food, and rodeo stuff to take in.

The 56th annual Southern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo takes place September 28th through October 2nd at the Dona Ana County Fairgrounds, 13 miles west of Las Cruces.
Highlights of this family friendly event include thrilling rides by Frazier Carnival Shows, professional rodeo on Friday and Saturday along with live main stage concerts Thursday through Saturday. Be amazed by the aerial jumps and flips of Brigade FMX Freestyle Motocross and the comedy of Puppy Pals, as seen on America's Got Talent. Throw in incredible and unique cuisine, Ballet Folklorico dancers, antique tractor displays, petting zoo, livestock and craft exhibits, and you will discover there is something for everyone at the Southern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo.

Most adults have fond memories of begging your parents to stop at McDonald's for a happy meal. The anticipation of getting that one of a kind shaped box was almost as exhilarating as Christmas morning. It wasn't the food in the happy meal that got your adrenaline pumping, it was the prize! Happy Meals have had some of the most desired toys for kids over the decades. They had everything from McDonald's themed toys to blockbuster movie tie-in stuff. At one point they even had a separate collection of toys for boys and girls.
When I heard they were coming out with an Adult Happy Meal complete with a toy, my curiosity was piqued. I was afraid it would be another attempt to force healthy food on us. I was ecstatic when I found out it was basically a supersized kids happy meal! You can pick between a Big Mac or 10 piece McNuggets. I was invited to attend Northern Ireland Comic Con in Belfast. I took a week to travel around Northern Ireland and Ireland to take in all the beautiful country. The first stop was Belfast by way of New York City JFK and London Heathrow.
The Titanic Hotel is located in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast. It is conveniently right across the street from the Titanic Museum. The hotel itself, is the old headquarters of Harland & Wolff, builders of Titanic. They really did a great job of modernizing the building while maintaining a lot of the old structure. There are lots of awesome pieces of art detailing the history of White Star Line and the Titanic.
The Titanic Hotel Belfast is a great hotel to stay at for one night while you are visiting the Titanic Museum. The history and ambience of the Titanic Hotel are top notch and their bar and dining are amazing. If you plan on staying in Belfast for more than one night, I suggest getting a room in downtown Belfast for the other nights, mostly due to the price.

Love him or hate him, everyone knows the name Mike Tyson. When Bam Box offered the Mike Tyson autograph box, I jumped on the opportunity. I opted for the box with a Tyson signed Knockout print, Tyson signed Funko Pop, and Tyson signed boxing glove. These three items came with authentication. There was also a limited number print from Hangover signed by the artist, Billy Martin. They threw in a Mike Tyson patch to round it out. This box was a little pricey, but you should expect to pay that amount for 3 certified Mike Tyson autographs.

Stranger Things season 4 introduced some new characters. One of the more memorable is the stoner pizza delivery guy, Argyle. San Diego Comic Con, or SDCC for brevity, is a must see pilgrimage for most nerds. A lot of major comics publishers and big time movie production companies use SDCC to launch campaigns for their new ventures. It helps that the city completely embraces the event. SDCC is not only confined to the walls of the venue, it extends out into the surrounding community. Deep into the Gaslamp District you will still see SDCC related events. There is enough stuff outside the convention center to keep you busy all weekend without even entering the venue.
It is impossible to see and do all the things, mostly due to the long lines for the popular stuff. In this video I show you a small sample of the few things I was able to see and do at San Diego Comic Con.

Toothless is one of the fiercest dragons from the movie "How to Train Your Dragon", but he is also the most adorable. This statue captures all of his cuteness in great detail.

Sideshow is excited to present the Toothless statue from the How to Train Your Dragon films! A member of the deadly Night Fury species, Toothless turns out to be a loyal, friendly dragon after a bit of training from the chief’s son Hiccup.
This statue stands at 12 inches in height, capturing the majesty Berk’s jet-black dragon defender as he looks out from a rocky crag base. He has scale texturing on his legs and head, as well as claws that grip the mossy rocks where he stands.
Looking out over the lush Viking homeland, Toothless wears a sculpted harness designed by Hiccup to steer the dragon during flight. His lofty wings are open, ready to take to the skies for another adventure with his rider.
Toothless’s tail gently curls down the rocky base, showing off the replacement fin that Hiccup built specially for him. The prosthetic red fin comes complete with a painted Viking skull design, giving Toothless some extra flair in flight.
Based on his appearance in How to Train Your Dragon 2, Toothless also has subtle blue paint accenting his spine ridges, indicating to all other dragons that this Night Fury is an alpha dragon and a formidable leader.

Fan Expo Denver is one of the larger comic conventions in the states. They regularly have an amazing list of featured guests as well as awesome vendors. There were great cosplays, cool pop culture related vehicles, and a lot of top tier artists/authors.
While all of that makes for a great con experience, what set them higher in my estimation is there were plenty of places for you to stop, sit down, and take a load off. Their concessions area had a multitude of third party vendors providing all kinds of delicious food and snacks. That area had a plethora of tables/chairs so you could sit and eat instead of sitting on the floor or trying to eat while walking. I highly recommend this event if you get the chance to attend.

The Mile High Comics Jason Street MegaStore is a 45,000 square foot warehouse/store located in Denver, Colorado. Mile High claims to have over 10 million comics and 300,000 trade paperbacks in stock. To say this place is huge would be an understatement.
I was in Denver for Fan Expo, so I took a little time away from the convention to see America's Largest Comics Dealer. This place should be on every nerd's bucket list. You really need to see and experience it at least once. The rows and rows of back issue comics reminds me of the last scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when they are putting the Ark of the Covenant into storage in that endless warehouse.

Monteleone's Haunted Motel Themed Restaurant is a house that has been converted to a murder mystery dinner location. The Haunted Motel is one of a group of eclectic businesses that Gary Monteleone has opened around the 3000 block of Gateway Boulevard in El Paso, Texas. Each of his businesses has bizarre and garish appeal to them.
The Wrap & Roll is a vintage carnival themed burger joint. Monteleone's Ristorante/The Speak Easy is a haunted gangster themed restaurant that has been featured on SyFy. The Blue Moon Drive In is a vintage Drive In inspired dinner theater. The location I visited is the Haunted Motel Themed Restaurant.
The Haunted Motel Themed Restaurant hosts murder mystery dinners. There is limited seating so you should get a reservation. Watch the video to see what I thought about the whole experience.

In the past, Boba Fett was one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy, working for both the criminal underworld and the Empire, thus becoming a legend. After a long time, when many thought he had come to an end by facing Luke Skywalker and falling into the fearsome Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine, he resurfaced in the series The Mandalorian, recovering his armor and taking from Bib Fortuna the throne that once belonged to the deceased Jabba. With Fennec Shand at his side, he became the new big gangster boss in the galaxy.
The bounty hunter sits on a throne decorated with monstrous bronze heads, which meticulously replicates the minimum details of the post-credits scene from Season 2 of the series The Mandalorian. Thus Iron Studios presents its statue "Boba Fett and Fennec Shand on Throne Art Scale 1/10 Deluxe - The Mandalorian - Iron Studios". This Star Wars statue features the iconic Star Wars mercenary in his restored Mandalorian armor, with his classic blaster rifle resting on the left arm of the concrete throne, and also features his lethal ally sitting on the right arm of the throne, holding her blaster rifle. The statue faithfully reproduces the features of the Chinese-American actress Ming-Na Wen who plays Fennec. The scene is a preview of The Book of Boba Fett, another Star Wars spin-off series scheduled for late 2021.
During the Republic Era, another legendary bounty hunter named Jango Fett was the genetic donor for the creation of the Clone Troopers, soldiers genetically altered at birth for fast growth and loyalty, and submission to the army of the old Galactic Republic. Fett demanded to receive for the donation, in addition to a sum of money, a single unaltered clone of himself, which he named Boba Fett and raised him as a son. After seeing his father killed in combat by Jedi Master Mace Windu, Boba, unsuccessful in his quest for revenge, was imprisoned on Coruscant. After serving his sentence, he followed the same professional path as his father, working with several other hunters.
Elite mercenary and assassin Fennec Shand had her first appearance in the fifth episode of The Mandalorian series, in which she was hunted by Mando and his ally Calican, being saved by Boba Fett in the 14th episode of the series, thus becoming his partner. She helped Boba Fett retrieve his armor and later rescue Grogu (Baby Yoda) to honor a deal. At the end of the mission, she follows Boba to Tatooine, where he takes control of the remnants of the Hutt cartels.
One more release from Iron Studios, in its The Mandalorian line, which already features figures from Mando, Moff Gideon, and Bo-Katan.

Here Comes Calico #4 just stirred the pot even more! We already have a handful of intriguing characters that could be fleshed out, but in this issue they add a few more. You are introduced to these starting characters and learn just enough about them to become interested in them. Then the story switches perspective and you don't see the character again. That is, except for Kingman. He makes an appearance at the end of the issue and tangles the knot even tighter.
Each issue makes me anxious about them finishing up the story in 8 issues. I'm sure they have a master plan, but I can't figure it out. There should be a flourish of activity in the last 4 issues and I can't wait to witness it.

Souk is the Arabic word for market. The big souk in Dubai is reminiscent of the markets in Disney's Aladdin. The souk I visited is known for it's gold and spices.

The Burj Al Arab is one of the most recognizable buildings in Dubai. It is a luxury hotel located on an artificial island connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. The shape of the structure is designed to resemble the sail of a ship. It's a helipad located on the 59th floor (210m/689ft). The Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its topping out in 2009 with a total height of 829.8 m/2,722 ft (just over half a mile).

I don't remember the name of the off-road excursion company, but I believe it translates to "Make Tourists cry". The first thing they do before hitting the sand is to let some air out of the tires so they get more traction. My driver had such a lead foot and hit those dunes so hard I couldn't get much footage of him because the phone kept getting bounced out of my hand. We got to the stop point with enough time to get out and take some panoramic pics before the rest of the caravan even got within eye sight.

When you think of the Middle East one of the first things that comes to mind is camels. Before they had large cities, most of the population was Bedouin and they relied on camels as pack animals in the desert. Camels were well suited for this job as they could carry hundreds of pounds, go long periods without water, and were rather easily domesticated. Fast forward to now and camels are still very popular in these regions, but for different reasons. They now have camel races with large purses for the winners. The rest of the tour group landed in Dubai and wouldn't join be in Abu Dhabi until the next day. This meant I had a free day in Abu Dhabi to explore on my own. I tried to make the most of it and check out the locations that were not on the itinerary with the tour group. I highly recommend The Observation Deck at 300 in the Etihad Towers. The view of the city from up there is breath-taking.

I was on the generous side on a couple of those comics. I'm not upset I bought this mystery box, but I definitely wouldn't do it again. All the comics were in good shape. They were all first prints as well. There weren't any real great books in the box, but then again... they didn't say there would be. They were pretty close on the value of the books, so I will give them a pass there.
If you like receiving random comics or you are just starting out in comics, this mystery box might appeal to you. Serious collectors likely already have all those issues if they want them, so if this is you... find another comic book mystery box subscription.

Tiamat is one of the most iconic and well known creatures in Dungeons & Dragons lore. Not only has she appeared in multiple D&D books (and at least one cover) but she was one of the main villains in the 1980's Dungeons & Dragons TV cartoon series.
Tiamat is the mother of all Chromatic dragons. The Chromatic dragons were a type of dragon distinguished typically by a solid, non-reflective coloring of their scales. They were generally evil, greedy, and predatory. They worshipped Tiamat, whom they regarded as their queen. Gargantuan by definition is a character or a monster that stands 32 to 64 feet tall while weighing 16 to 125 tons. This miniature can be used in gameplay with your other Wizkids minis, but be warned. If Tiamat appears on your map it would probably be best to turn and run.
This statue is 14+ inches tall, 28+ inches wide, and 16+ inches from head to tail. It comes in four pieces: body, tail, left wing, and right wing. The assembled miniature is on the scale at just under 8 pounds. This miniature is not for the faint of heart as it hits the register at $399.
I really like the look and feel of this miniature/statue. The push joints could be a little better, especially at the price. If you're not worried about budget, you will be happy with this Tiamat Gargantuan model.

The Sentinels have been a classic X-men villain since their first appearance in X-men #14. They have been in several X-men movies and video games. Their look and function have changed over the years, but their primary reason for existing has always revolved around capturing and/or killing mutants.

At the time of this video it has an MSRP or $75. It sells out every time SideShow is able to get it back in stock. The level of detail is about what you would expect for a statue in this price range. I kinda like that the patterns on the statue are actually etched into it rather than just painted on. This statue will look great on the shelf of any Alice in Wonderland fan.
