This week the guys and gals of CFR got together to discuss several topics. With the recent ICAST in Orlando, a number of the crew made their way to Orlando and got up close and personal with all the new products that will be introduced in the near future. We are going to hear about some of the best products and all the fun that surrounds this annual event. We also are going to discuss a recent experience that some of the MIFC crew had a direct hand in helping to difuse and possibly saving a young mans life. We do not kid around about suicide and the reality is, that many people have things they are dealing with that they hide from friends and family. In this case a young man had taken a very strong edible drug that had a very diverse effect on him and his mind. We are happy that all were safe and we cannot thank the USCG and the Murrells Inlet Fire and Resue enough for all of their efforts to make sure this incident ended without any injuries. We had a great time this week and were honored to have Sen. Stephen Goldfinch to join us on Jason's big wooden deck. We had the pleasure of wishing the co-host of Trilogy Outdoors safe travels and well wishes on his depoloyment with the US Army. Stephen has spent a lot of time on the water from scuba diving and fishing all across the world. He also spent alot of his time working on charter boats growing up along the Grand Strand. We coould not have been happier that Capt. Jack Orr of The Fishfinder Fleet joins us as well. Capt. Jack is truly one of the old salts in the coastal region of South Carolina and has been at the helm of some of the most well known head boats to ever call Murrells Inlet home. Along with Capt Jay Baisch of "All Washed Up Driftwood Art" the trip combined for more years on the water than all of our previous guests combined The stories were numerous and Capt. Austin Dillon is known to most as the driver of the #3 Chevrolet on Sundays in Nascar and he is known as Richard Childress' grandson to many. But, he is in fact an avid outdoorsmen and loves every aspect of fins, fur & freathers. JT Thompkins Fishing has started on the second half of his 2025 season on the Elite Series. This week he just secured a top 5 fiinsh with an incredible bag of over 120 pounds for the 4 days. A tourney that saw 10 anglers achieve this feat and the all time largest bag was in jeapordy. The lake could only be the one and only Lake Fork in Texas. The show that this lake and these anglers put on may have rivaled any moment in sports over the weeked and possibly years of history on the Elite Series. It was an honor to have JT call in on his way to the nest stop on the Sabine River. We talk baits, his surrent streak, and the rest of the season with 4 events left. He has made us proud all year, and at this streak he is on he will have a hot finish and be a force to reckon with on all the bodies of water left on the schedule. It is Bassmasters Classic week and we wanted to brag on one of South Carolina's own in this weeks episode. Davy Hite is a mamber of the bass fishing Hall Of Fame and is the owner of 9 titles from Bassmastes that include angler of the year, Elite Series winner, and of course, the pinnacle of bass fishing. He is the 1999 Bassmaster's Classic Champion, but Davy is far more than just a former champion to the world of bass fishing. He was born and raised in South Carolina and is very proud to call this state home. He will be joining the SCDNR Board of Directors and as outdoorsmen and women, we should all celebrate. This father of two is proud of the resources our state offers and enjoyed raising his two sons to love and respect them from a very young age. SCBFA has been at the forefront of everything boating in South Carolina over the last few years. Gettys Brannon has been challenged as the Exec. Director of this very active organization. It is hard to believe that we are just on the other side of JT Thompkins rookie year on the Elite Series and this weekend he will be starting his sophomore season on the biggest stage in bass fishing. In an attempt to get himself some time away from bass fishing he has fallen into the grasps of duck hunting. So much so that he reached out to go shoot some clays and work on his form before his first event in Palatska, Florida, We had a great time out at Backwoods Quail Club.
We had a lot of laughs and to be honest, this young man just gets it.......He is not gonna do anything without going all in and his attention to detail in his shooting speaks volume about his abaility on the water and to disect a fishery. We wish JT the best of luck this year and are sure to keep you informed of how his season progressess. We all meet incredible people through our life and we lose track over time with most. Capt E was able to reunite with a good friend and world traveler, Chuck Balbach. Chuck is an avid travel junkie, that loves to explore some of the farthest destinations from our wonderful area. He discusses an upcoming trip as well as some of the highs and lows of other trips he has made over the last 12 years. We also discuss the business that is funding all these trips with his creations he does with the use of his 3 lasers that he has used to start Compass Rose Creations. We are also joined by the Senator and talk a little about some new legislation he has introduced in to senate this session. Most of us all enjoy the Santee Cooper Lake System and especially the rivers that lead into and out of it. We may target shad during the shad run or make your way to chase stripers in all the rivers when they are making their migration as well. But, other than the fish lift in St. Stephens and the locks at Pinopolis, there has been no way for the mgirating and spawning species to make their way in the lake at the Wilson Dam/Santee River area. Well thanks to some really cool new technology it looks like our friends at Santee Cooper have found a really cool new device that will be both cost effective and functional to offer our finned friends a way to get in the lake via that area. Fishheart is a new technology that could see it's introduction to the Santee River headwaters as early as 2026. Created by a company based in Finland this innovative fishway uses hydraulics and Ai technology to allow fish a safe and effective way to migrate into the lake. We are joined in todays show by Michael Melchers, FERC Administrator for Santee Cooper and Chad Holbrook, the Habitat Coordinator \for Santee Cooper. These two are tasked with maintaing the lake and river systems to meet all the federal requirements as well as keeping the habitat and the resources thriving in the waters and areas around the lake. BASS made a big announcement this week that there were no longer gonna be entry fees for the Elite Series anglers. Many, including myself, were quick to celebrate before looking further into the announcement. The payouts were decreased drastically and we sit down with current Elite Angler, JT Thompkins to discuss. We also discuss the recent adventures in the OIFC Fall Brawl king tourney, where JT joined Team Trilogy Outdoors/Marshall's Marine for the day. We were not rewarded with a winning fish, but had a great time with great friends. JT also shares ome tips on breaking down a lake for someone new to FFS and some great points to start at. One thing is certain about fishermen and fisherwomen, we all enjoy fishing for a cause and getting the competitive juices flowing. This week we had the fortune of supporting and participating in the 2nd Annual No BS Inshore Slam tourney out of Georgetown, S.C. The crew put three teams together to fish and we decided to record our radio show on site at the captains meeting. The Mears family founded this event to raise funds to help with research and treatments for Hydrocephalus. Also known as water on the brain, this is a condition in which there is an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain. Funds from this event will go to help with research as well as helping provide treatment for patients that will not include braind surgery(BS). It is always great to get the Senator in the studio and talk Colorado Elk hunting. We are joined via phone bu Team Trilogy Outdoors pro staffer, Rick Austin. Rick and Sen. Goldfinch just got back from another trip out to the west to chase Elk. Rick was fortunate enough to draw a black powder tag for Elk and was excited to put the stalk on what would hopefully be his first bull. The hunt was exciting and it's always great when the Senator gets to describe his hunts with his hunting partner. We wish Rick's wife, Heidi best of luck in just a few weeks at her first attempt at a bull Elk with rifle.

Known as the Flounder Pounder, Jason was busy this week with helping coordinate some assistance and relief efforts for our friends in the WNC area that was ravaged by Hurricane Helene. JAson made the trip up this week wijth one of the trucks that was loaded down with essentials. He shares a lot of things that the media is not gonna share and he shares the reaction and opinions of the many locals that he was fortunate enough to spend time with on his trip. Please understand that this is not going away anytime soon. These people are going to need help over the coming weeks and months. We are trying to use our platform to get the information and awareness out in every way possible. Fall is in the air.......this is definitely true here in South Carolina as shrimp baiting season has begun on September 13th. This is a tradition that most watermen live for every fall. The ability to go out and to fill a cooler with some tasty lowcountry delicacies and to actually be in control of harvesting them. It can be a bit overwhelming to someone that is new to the technique and we cover all the ways to have success while helping you straighten that learning curve. This island has a colony of free-ranging Rhesus monkeys that were placed there in the 70's and now contain over 4000 in the colony. There are many that are not aware of this island and it's inhabitants, just as Capt. Chris and Capt. Jason. You can imagine the surprise and the stories that this produces when they start shaking trees and running to the beach to say hello or to warn you. The best time of the year is just starting for most of us outdoorsmen and women as deer season kicks off across the state. We are joined this week by SCDNR's Assistant Big Game Coordinator, Jay Cantrell. We have enjoyed conversations with Jay over the last couple years and most recently we spoke about the trukey regulation changes. We are grateful to have him join us this week to talk deer. This is the first year of the new reporting program in which hunters are now required to report our harvests before midnight on the day the deer is harvested. We dive into this as well as many other concerns that the hunters across the state may have pertaining to deer hunting. With the recent news of a proposed solar farm that could include up to 6000 acres in Plantersville, S.C. There are numbers of property owners that want answers how this has gotten this far without the input from the public. We are joined this week by 4 time PGA Tour winner, Kevin Kisner. Kisner is a native of Aiken, S.C. but has an interest in one of many beautiful plantations along the Plantersvile area of the Pee Dee River. We have been blessed to meet many people that love and enjoy the very things that we do here at Trilogy Outdoors. This week our guest is one of those very people and a friend of ours who has played a very important role here in South Carolina for 12 years as the Senator of District 35. Sen. Thomas McElveen will not be seeking re-election this year and will get to spend more time with his family and enjoying the outdoors. CEO of SCBFA(South Carolina Boating & Fishing Alliance) joins us this week to talk about a lot of imoortant topics in the world of fishing and boating. With under 400 Northern Right Whales left, there has been a big push to increade speed restrictions during the migration period of the species along the east coast. These regulations would effect recreational and commercial fishermen as well as the huge industry which is important to commerce, the cargo ship industry. Gettys shares some recent events that have taken place in Washington, D.C. and who is behind all the attention that is being put on creating these speed zones. We also have a lengthy discussion on the Red Snapper regulations and the incredibly poor data that continues to influence this very poorly regulated fishery. With many flaws being found in the data collection it is time for answers and for accurate data to be gathered and to loosen the grasps on this fishery. Along with these great topics, we dove into the Forward Facing Sonar discussion as well. Gettys is a former College Bassmaster National Champion and also a former employee of B.A.S.S and is a great reference to discuss the most popular topic in bass fishing with. Jeff Kale's boat was found today offshore of Wrightsville Beach, NC. Unfortunately the search for the captain continues and we have some of the pubic info that we know about the boat and what possibly could have happened to Mr Kale. Our thoughts and prayers go out for his family and friends in the coming days as they try to get closure on this terrible accident. We also discuss some great safety tips for both new and seasoned boat owners that will be making that trek to the Gulf Stream over the coming months. We all have made bad decisions in choosing days to fish and to battle the Atlantic Ocean. We can all assure a lot better chance of safely making it home to our loved ones with some simple tips and preparation prior to heading offshore. We are very fortunate in South Carolina to have our legislators at the forefront of our resources and the decisions that are made pertaining to them. In both the House and Senate we have the Fish,Game, and Forestry Committee's that is made up of our representatives and senators. Most of these are outdoorsmen and women just like their costituents and they care about the impacts that all of these have in our state. We are fortunate to have our very own Sen. Goldfinch serving on this committee and we are also fortunate that Sen. Chip Campsen(District 43) is the chairman of this committee in the senate. This week we have Sen. At the top of that list is the fact that our timber business in South Carolina is in a decline and the impoortance of this to our states economy is one that may surprise most. House Bill #3594 has become a very hot topic in the state. The Senator has introduced an ammendment that has ruffled a lot of feathers and in this episode we let him explain his reasoning for the ammendment and why he is receiving push back from certain groups. Speaking of feathers, turkeys are a hot topic also in Columbia rightr now. With declining numbers of birds and increasing numbers of hunters each year. SCDNR has proposed a plan to help the turkey population. Many factors in this decline have been considered and are included in the suggested changes to turkey regulations. We are admittedly a little behind when it comes to being tech savvy and we are excited about buliding a relationship with our guests on todays show. Holy Mackerel!!!!! Thats all we can say about the size fish that were caught in Morehead City for the SKA National Championships. Team Trilogy Outdoors/Marshall's Marine had a great time competing and learned a lot about the fishery off of the outer banks area of North Carolina. Thank you to SKA for hosting a great event at an incredible venue. Capt. Jason Burton and Capt. E talk about the tournament and a number of other things going on right now in the Carolinas. Capt. Jason is going to be fishing the Redfish Cup event this weekend in Charleston and gives us a run down on his game plan to compete against some of the best in the southeast. The fishing is really heating up along the coast and the big trout are showing up in good numbers. They discuss the trout fishery and how to target trout this time of the year and how to be productive. Also in this episode, Rick Austin and his wife Heidi joined the Goldfinch's for an elk hunt out in Colorado. Heidi was blessed to be drawn for a bull tag in Colorado and they sat around the campfire and had a great discussion about women in hunting. It's great to have the Senator back in the states and recovering well from his surgery. 2024 is a big year in this country. Over the last two years we have mentioned our guest this week multiple times in the show This week one of the biggest names in professional bass fishing joins us. JT Thompkins is currently the points leader in the EQ Bass Opens for the year. He has amassed enough points with one tournament to go, to literally just show up and earn his spot among the best in the world next season. Nut not our buddy JT! He is focused on winning the Angler Of The Year for the opens and this would be one heck of a feat. This 21 year old young man has put so much on hold in his life over the last 3 to 5 years to begin his journey throught the ranks of bass fishing. In 2023 he also fished the Bassmaster Classic and prior to that he had won a Northern Open as well as an event on the Toyota Pro Series. We are excited to have spent some time with him while he is traveling on the road to the next stop to prepare for his final event at The Harris Chain of Lakes in Florida. Every Summer ends with Labor Day!!! But here in along the coast we like to start the end a week early with our Spanish Mackerel World Championships. Hosted by Trilogy Outdoors Media annually, this family friendly event is contested the weekend before labor day out of Crazy Sister Marina. This year our team was lucky enough to be blessed with the victory in a very tough field. Capt. E, Winston Glover, Addison Glover, and the Bassmaster were blessed with a 5.26 pound fish and took home the title. There are many ways to target spanish and we feel like the tournament has been won on many different techniques over the years and we share our winning technique and exactly how much work goes in to being prepared to target these little spaniards. We also talk about the effects of Hurricane Idalia on the rivers here and how it may effect the opening of shrimp baiting season with rising waters from the massive rainfall inland. While many are trying to getting ready to go back to school and watching summer vacation come to an end. In the south, many of us are hitting the woods and the fields to start chasing whitetail dear. With one of the longest seasons in the country, South Carolina archery hunters have refilled the thermacell and got those bows sighted in and ready to go. We have all seen the movie, Black Hawk Down! We have all imagined what it felt like to be on the ground with those heroes in that battle and to honor and believe in not leaving a soldier behind. My guest this week was, in fact, one of these very soldiers as he was deployed with the Army Rangers to Somalia during this terrible time. I was honored to have Steve Sr. sit in with me on this one until work called and he had to leave. I can tell you that when we sat down, David and I had a target time of inside of 75 minutes. That target was no where close to the time that this story deserves. I was honored to have him share his experiences with me first hand. I hope that you will feel the way I did after you listen to this episode and put yourself in the shoes of these brave soldiers as these events unfolded. The movie (Black Hawk Down) does a lot of fair justice to the events that took place but October 3rd and 4th of 1993 was a time that these survivors will never forget and we should not let the ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice be forgotten. With all the headlines about the Senator the last few days we felt compelled to chat for a little while via phone while he was in an area with service. We discuss briefly about his condition and about the prgonosis as he awaits a trip to Germany to get some great care from the men and women at the hospital there who are better equipped. It was great to chat with my partner and to discuss a little about what is going on over in his area of the horn of Africa. We also discussed in details about where he is and what the waters look like there. He has also scouted out some local catches and explains to us about what fish are native to that area and what he would expect to catch if he had a chance to fish. They have been very busy over there and he also discusses briefly what his normal day entails as he is deployed and what he misses about the Lowcountry. Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!! We missed yall! The last two weeks have been crazy busy and we were glad to be a part of all of it. From our own team finishing 2nd in the East Coat Got 'Em On to all the fun that goes into volunteering and heloping promote and also fishing in The Hooked On Miracles tournament in Charleston, Capt. E and the entire family spent the 3 days of HOM volunteering and enjoying all the fun of raising money for such a great cause. We also got to enjoy watching our own partner, Freeman Boatworks bring home the win for the 3rd straight year in Charleston. But before that weekend our guys were busy bringing home some hardware themselves in the Carolina Beach, East Coast Got 'Em On. This is the oldest king tourney in the southeast and to finish 2nd against some of the best in the sport was an honor for our team. Capt Lucas, Capt. E, Capt, Jay Baisch, Winston, and McClure Hopkins were able to enjoy a prolific bite for two days and managed to top it off with a 42.66lb missile. Capt. E discusses just how the weekend played out and our special guest this week is no stranger to finishing at the top in king tourneys. This week Capt. Marc Pincus joins Capt. E to talk about the SC HUK Satlwater Series and exactly what it offers tournament anglers and why he started the 3 event series. The sport of competitive shooting has grown exponentially over recent years. With so many incredible programs that help make it accessable to many more of our youth than in the past. Rick Hemingway at Backwoods Quail Club knows just how important this sport is and his venue has hosted the pinnacle of sporting clays contests, as it hosted the U.S. Open last summer. This weekend he is hosting the Junior U.S. Open and our state is represented well, by many of our local shooting teams. These include Feathern Young Guns, Richard Wrenn Academy, and many more. We had the honor of sitting down with several of these young men and women as well as some of their coaches. Rick Hemingway even took some time out to chat with us along with Featherhorn Farms owner, Jimmy Lee. Jimmy hosted us back in the winter for a podcast and an incredible duck hunt at his beautiful place. Richard Wrenn coach and owner of HeyBo Outdoors clothing line, Scott Clyburn joined us to talk about the importance of this sport and getting these young men an women involved. As offshore fishermen, we all have that fear of the unthinkable. Being stranded offshore, in the water, with no hope of being rescued. Our guest this week lived that nightmare and survived to tell his story. His story is worth being told and shared and after years of keeping it in, he decided to write and publish a book with the accounts of that horrific morning in the Gulf of Mexico. Capt. Johnny Savage shares with us some of the details of his near death experience and how he had a much higher power looking over him as he drifted out to sea. With the Senator being gone and getting prepared for deployment, we joined our good friends at Murrells Inlet Fishing Charters to talk charter fishing and whats biting right now in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina. We had the pleasure of having a very large special guest in this episode. Thank you to the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity to interview 2023 Worlds Strongest Man contestant, Tom Evan. Tom is a native of Franklin, N.C, and is currently a strength coach at the University of Delaware. His story is extra specia, as he was a member of the Green Bay Packers in 2017 and decided that he wanted to pursue a dream of competing at the top level of strength competitions and he set his goal and has achieved it. He has achieved this distinct pleasure faster than anyone, other than himself and his wife, saw possible. This larger than life person was one of the easiest interviews we have done and we hope that you will join us this week and also in the year ahead pulling for this young man on the biggest stage. This week he will be competing here in Myrtle Beach and we are excited to get the opportunity to actually go witness his incredible strength in person. Turkey season is in full effect in the southeast and The Senator and great friend, Rick Austin, had a great hunt that resulted in a double amongst buddies. The experiences of successful turkey hunts are few and far between and with Stephens busy schedule this spring his opportunities are very limited. This story is a great one and any real turkey hunter knows that sometimes the unsuccessfully stories are just as memorable as the ones that end in a harvest. We are also joined by Capt. Jason Burton of Murrells Inlet Fishing Charters in this episode. We had a great time discussing the fishing right now as well as a move that a group of local charter captains are trying to make to increase the effort for catch and release on charters. There is no disputing the fact that the numbers of fishermen on the waters in the southeast has increased exponentially and its our job as outdoorsmen to be proactive in protecting our resources. It was only appropriate to come back this week with the other side of the Murdaugh trial. We were very thankful that our South Carolina Attorney General, Alan Wilson aggreed to speak with us for a while on the Murdaugh trial and other issues. Most of us feel that his team handled this trial professionally and ethically and prosecuted Alex without any bias. AG Wilson discusses many topics dealing with this trial, including the cost to state, his team of prosecutors, and the job of the court system giving the state and Mr Murdaugh the fairest trial possible. Thanks to AG Wilson for his time on a Saturday morning and we thank him as well for his sacrifecs to this country as a member of the Army National Guard. We are lucky to have such an incredible AG and you will also find out some really interesting facts and records that AG Wilson is a part of as our 4th term Attorney General. This week we were given an exclusive interview with Senator Dick Harpootlian. Sen. Harpootlian is one of the most respected senators in South Carolina and has served many positions in the state from Solicitor in the Fifth Judicial Circuit to the Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party and now serves the 20th district senator. But the spotlight has been on him and his team of defense lawyers in the recent trial of Alex Murdaugh. We were honored to have him choose to speak with us just the day after his client was sentenced to two full life sentences for the murders of his wife and son. This trial has been the focus of all media outlets over the last 8 weeks and even beyond that and we had a great conversation with Sen. Harpootlian. The Senator(Goldfinch) had lined up a very intriguing list of questions for Sen. Harpootlian and we were very cognisent of the on going appeals process that they are moving forward with. Thanks to Sen. Harpootlian for the opportunity and for his service in the state house representing his constituents in the 20th district. This week we go under water once again as we dive into the life of our guest, Michael Barnette. Michael has been actively diving and researching shipwrecks since 1990. His research and exploration has resulted in teh identification of over 30 wreck sites. Barnette is the founder of his group, the Association of Underwater Explorers, that was founded in 1996. Among many of his accomplishments over the years, several stood out to us. The recovery of a B-25 bomber from Lake Murray in 2005 as well as his involvement in the expedition to the HNHS Brittanica in 2006 that was documented by the History Channel. Barnette's exploratio of the Bermuda Triangle and particularly the search for the remnants of Flight 19 have also made its way to television through a partnership with the History Channel. As recent as 2022, Barnette was also involved in a dive in the area of the Bermuda Triangle and discovered parts of the Challenger space shuttle. It was our pleasure to spend and hour with Capt Cefus McRae of Nuts & Bolts of Fishing and Boating TV. If you have never had the pleasure of watching one of hsi exciting shows on Fox Sports(Bally TV) or Chrome TV then you have missed out. Maybe you have read one of his hundreds of articles published around the country in several of the most read outdoors magazines. Capt Cefus is an incredibly likeable personality that genuinely cares about leaving his viewers with great tips and great entertainment when he is on the water. He enlightens us on many things about himself and his show and we find out where his heart really lies when it comes to fishing. Over the last 10 years the sport of kayak fishing has really come to the forefront of options for anglers and it can be very productive. The two guests we have on this week are two of the best in the southeast and they have the hardware to prove it. Stephen Trainor and Mike Kachman spend hours upon hours on the water perfecting their sport whether they are guiding or just out looking for that personal best. Not all of us grew up with families that were involved in the southern heritage of hunting. Many of us were not able to enjoy family lands, farms, or even our dads hunting club. For those of us that ended up being interested in hunting late in life, it was quite the puzzle to put together and to figure out how, when, and where of hunting. Adult-Onset Hunting is a term that our friend Rick Austin titled his recent article in Trilogy Outdoors Magazine and one that he is all too familiar with. We sat and talked about how he got introduced to hunting and he and the Trilogy crew offer some great advice for any adults out there looking to get into the sport of hunting late in life. The 2022 Bassmasters National College Championship is coming to our home waters this weekend(Sept 2nd thru 4th) and we wanted to talk some bass fishing this week.
