If you are parenting a child, you’ll love the tips, information, and resources provided here to help you navigate the parenting journey you are on. You’ll hear many topics within parenting to include self-care for parents, bullying awareness and prevention for your kids, how to improve communication so you can stop yelling, and many, many other topics to help you raise happy, healthy kids while keeping yourself cool as a cucumber! Think of this podcast as your go-to audible parent manual. You’re gonna love it!
Based on Dr. Olatunji’s new book, this topic provides a powerful overview of why a new paradigm in education is needed. Many youth underachieve because we focus on making them skillful but not willful. This insightful and engaging presentation leaves audiences with a new sense of clarity and conviction about the need to align education with students—not just standards—so that they will thrive!
In this episode, Dr. O speaks to us about his book “Don't Let School Get in the Way of Education: How to Improve the Performance and Well-being of Our Nation's Youth.”
If your child is stressed by grades, bored by worksheets, or just “over it,” this episode will flip the script. Dr. O breaks down the “broccoli model” of school that kills joy, the “pumpkin muffin” approach that fuses rigor with fun, and his FACES framework that gets kids engaged fast.

In this episode, I speak with Nancy and Amy Harrington, creators of the Passionistas Project Virtual Summit 2025 Awakening Your Power event and the ones who spearheaded the writing of an anthology that can transform mindsets in powerful ways.
The Harrington sisters discuss how they came about creating the Passionistas Project, the purpose of the summit, what you can expect from it and they invite you to join the Passionistas Sisterhood.
The summit kicked off August 26th and runs through the 28th. So, if you are watching and it has already kicked off, it’s not too late to join before it ends.
In this episode, I open up about the two resources I created to help parents and educators take real action against bullying:
📖 Confident, Bully-Proof Kids – a guide packed with confidence-building strategies, everyday scripts parents can use, and practical steps to help kids stand tall against bullying. It’s about giving your child the inner armor they need.
📖 Your Guide to Bullying Prevention – a straightforward handbook for parents and educators that breaks down the types of bullying, signs to watch for, and clear steps to advocate with schools. It’s the “how-to” manual you wish you had earlier.
Both are important because they don’t just explain bullying — they hand you tools you can use today to protect and empower kids.
Along with my books, I briefly share other services I provide for families and schools, including:

Regardless of the profession, most workers likely spend their earnings on necessities like mortgage or rent, food, utilities, and car expenses. Therefore, a side hustle can be an ideal solution for teachers when additional funds are needed, whether for a dream purchase or an unexpected cost.
According to a 2021 survey, 53% of teachers were working multiple jobs, with many citing financial necessity as the primary reason. Additionally, the trend of teachers seeking supplementary income has been exacerbated by pandemic-related stress and rising living costs (EdSource) (Coursera).
Surveys indicate that side hustles are common among teachers, with many starting these ventures as hobbies. Most side hustles are worked on for 5-10 hours per week, often in the evenings (Self). This suggests a significant portion of educators are balancing additional work alongside their teaching responsibilities, though specific 2023 statistics for new side hustles are not detailed.
These trends highlight educators' economic pressures and the growing need for additional income sources.
In this episode, I speak with Luz Nazario, a teacher who has successfully managed her side hustle business since 2016. She shares her journey of balancing teaching with running a business.
We discuss:

The DaliTalks Podcast is back! And the first topic I think we need to discuss is educating our teens about worker’s rights.
Too many teens and young adults are exploited or mistreated for simply being too young. They are not respected but their work is wanted. We must change this by empowering our teens and young adults to stand up for themselves.
To do that, we must educate ourselves and pass on the knowledge to them.
Here’s what I go over in this episode:
👉🏽👉🏽 Where to find the child labor laws
👉🏽👉🏽 Speaking assertively at work
👉🏽👉🏽 Telling, rather than asking for time off.
👉🏽👉🏽 Illegal work practices that violate HIPAA and work laws
I hope that you find this episode valuable. Please share this episode with at least ONE person.
Thank you!
What would you do if your child was being bullied by a student and it turned to sexual harassment?
Today, I start off by mentioning that this episode might be triggering to some people. I discuss a recent article on the suicide of an 11-year-old girl who was bullied and a first-grader whose bullying experience advanced to sexual harassment.
These stories are shared in hopes that they will provide you with an idea of how strong an advocate you could be for your child if they have or are experiencing any form of bullying and to empower you with knowledge.
I will discuss…
🗣🗣 mental health and false appearances
🗣🗣 the importance of instilling empathy in kids by sharing stories
🗣🗣 meeting details of parents advocating for their 1st grader at school
I’d love to know what you like best about this episode. Please comment or leave a review and thank you for supporting me and this podcast!

Parents have to have many uncomfortable conversations with children at different ages and maturity stages.
For example, explaining to a child why some relatives are not welcome into your home, explaining to them what to do if a police officer pulls them over, or having to tell them how to be safe to prevent sexual abuse or human trafficking.
The list goes on. There are many conversations that we must have with kids that no one prepares us for. I believe that we are in an era where these conversations are becoming more public.
To help you learn how you can have the conversation of body consent, boundaries and safety, I invited Veronica Del Pino, a bilingual (ENG/SPAN) licensed clinical social worker to share with you everything you need to know about working with a professional to help you learn how to have these hard conversations and manage your own trauma.
We talk about:
🗣🗣Veronica’s qualifications that allow her to serve moms
🗣🗣The different methods of therapy that she uses
🗣🗣The role of a therapist
🗣🗣Accessibility to therapy for low-income families
🗣🗣The reality of finding the right therapist
🗣🗣Why some mental health specialists don’t work with insurance providers
🗣🗣Important terms such as EMDR, In and Out of network providers and sliding scales
🗣🗣What an intake is and what it includes
🗣🗣The importance of a professional who can help you better communicate with others

If you are a new or parent not, and you’re having trouble getting your kids to go to sleep, you will love this week’s episode.
Carla Perl is a mom of three beautiful children: two boys and one girl. She had her children very close together and realized early on that sleep was key to a smooth-running household (and my sanity).
Carla was very diligent about instilling good sleep habits in her children. Nana, her mom, inspired her to create early bedtime routines and follow consistent schedules.
To this day, her kids are all good sleepers and understand the benefits of a good night's sleep. As her family was growing, many of Carla’s friends would ask her how she was able to keep everything under control.
Carla quickly realized that because she had such a consistent routine, her children always knew what was coming next, and bathtime and bedtime struggles were few and far between. As her friends looked on, she began offering them support; helping them establish routines, and giving them recommendations for sleep and toddler behaviors.
This led to her interest in becoming a Pediatric Sleep and Positive Encouragement Consultant and the founder and owner of Slumberland Solutions. Carla is here to help YOU and your family create loving and happy routines and she provided some really great tips to help you if you’re struggling getting your kids to sleep.

While bullying will always exist, it can be drastically reduced if only societies, communities, institutions, and organizations made a committed effort to create an anti-bullying culture.
This is not an easy task, since it requires groups of people to work together, but movements have been created that have changed our way of life.
So, it is doable!
Here are three main factors that I believe can successfully create an anti-bullying culture to improve quality of life for everyone, not just our youth.
Remember that change can happen and it only takes one person to take the initiative to start that change.

Creating safe spaces allows children to feel comfortable and secure, knowing that their emotions are valid and respected.
It helps them develop trust and build meaningful connections with adults and peers. When children feel safe, they're more likely to take risks in expressing themselves and engage in healthy emotional exploration.
Dr. Katie Raher is an expert in this enabling children to live out their lives, one feeling at a time and in this episode she shared how she has been able to do so through Kimochis and Social Emotional Learning.

Fear-based parenting is a style of parenting that relies on fear as a motivator for children's behavior. It involves using threats, intimidation, and punishment to control children's actions, rather than positive reinforcement and encouragement.
This can lead to anxiety, low self-esteem and trust issues among children as shared by Danyale Washington, a parenting and mindset coach.

Advocating for your child at school is crucial as it can significantly impact their academic success and overall well-being. By advocating for your child, you ensure that their needs are being met and that their unique learning style, abilities, and challenges are being taken into consideration.
However, many parents are unaware of their right to ask for resources or to question if certain resources or teaching methods are working for their child, which is also a form of advocacy.
In this episode, I discuss the following topics:
👉🏽👉🏽 The importance of knowing that you have a say in your child’s education
👉🏽👉🏽 The power of speaking up with other parents
👉🏽👉🏽 The right of parents and tax payers to request improvements at schools
👉🏽👉🏽 The importance of advocating for your child
👉🏽👉🏽 How volunteering can contribute to your child's well-being at school

Like many people, I am concerned about the harmful toxins, chemicals, and pesticides found in our food, drinks, medicine, clothing, and other products. I became curious about Lizette Linares' supplements due to her story of growing up near the U.S.-Mexico border and learning indigenous traditions of using natural resources for health and healing.
While Western medicine may discredit the effectiveness of plant-based remedies, I believe we can benefit from selecting organic, natural products to consume.

What makes one Latino or Latina? I have been thinking about this after I replied to an Instagram post regarding Gina Rodriguez’s response after she was asked if she needs to speak the language in order to identify or be considered to be Latina. She responded by saying that she is not defined by anyone’s definition of Latina and that she walks in her world confidently.
Just like her, I agree that there isn’t a one size fits all for any demographic. I have lived experiences as a Latina raised in the U.S. and have learned from other individuals who have faced ridicule by other Latinx people who believed they weren’t real enough to identify as part of the Latin American community.
This is the gist of this episode and I share my sentiments on it as well as two stories from people who have been made to feel outcast and/or denied to be fully accepted in their own Latin American community.
Please keep in mind that this is a sensitive topic and while you may not agree with what I have to say, you are expected to be respectful.

Forgiveness is a hard concept to come to terms with especially if someone has hurt you. As parents it is crucial to teach your kids about forgiveness especially when they have bullied.
Forgiveness has a number of benefits, such as promoting emotional healing, reducing the likelihood of long-term resentment, revenge-seeking, encouraging empathy and compassion. Being able to forgive is also part of social emotional learning skills that children and really, everyone can benefit from.
Forgiveness can also help children learn important social skills, such as conflict resolution and communication, which can benefit them in future relationships and interactions with others.

Whether or not college is the right next step for a child can depend on a variety of factors, such as their interests, goals, and educational needs. For some students, college may be the best choice to pursue a certain career or to continue their education in a specific field. While others it may not be the best fit and they prefer to enter the workforce or explore alternative educational opportunities.
College is a big commitment, both financially and in terms of time, and students need to be able to handle the rigors of college-level coursework and the responsibilities that come with living away from home.
It's important to talk to your child and help them explore their options.
In this episode, I speak with Maura Mulligan and Annamaria Wenner of Beyond The GPA about how children and parents can assess post high-school options.

There are several benefits to doing an end-of-year review. It can help you reflect on your accomplishments and challenges from the past year, set goals for the coming year, and identify areas for improvement.
An end-of-year review can also help you take stock of your personal and professional growth and development over the past year. Additionally, it can be a helpful tool for tracking progress towards longer-term goals and staying motivated to achieve them.
Conducting an end-of-year review can be a valuable way to close out the year on a positive note and set the stage for a successful new year.

Selene is an established actress in Hollywood with multiple roles in movies and TV shows like Soledad on FX's Mayans M.C. and the voice of Tía Rosita in Disney-Pixar’s Academy Award and Golden Globe Awards' Winner Coco.

Cairo Eubanks was in college when a peer began stalking and harassing her online. She didn’t personally know the guy. After months of his attacks, she decided to speak up about it online, and much to her surprise other victims spoke out.
They all banded together and with a lot of work, they were able to put a stop to it. But it shouldn’t have taken over 30 women to stop one cyberstalker. That experience lead Cairo to do a lot more in the world. Cairo created Bringing The Globe (BTG), a virtual international student exchange program and a global village for students equipping them with the transferable skill sets and resources they need to thrive. BTG provides self-paced courses, live and virtual workshops, and online international conferences every year that leverage evidence-based and scientific research to help students find their purpose and passion.

Teaching kids about bullying awareness can be tough, but this author does it in a very entertaining way that will get kids to read more about it!

Sisters, Amy and Nancy Harrington have a very beautiful relationship that has become an extension of sisterhood to many other women.
They founded The Passionistas Project out of a deep desire to empower women around the world. Both co-founders walked away from high-profile jobs in Hollywood to work together. Amy was the Vice President of Visual Effects and Post Production for all feature films at Warner Bros, working on movies like the "Harry Potter" films and "The Matrix." Nancy left the ad agency where she created Academy Award campaigns for Miramax.
Now Amy and Nancy shine a light on the positive stories of women on The Passionistas Project Podcast. They have conducted more than 60 one-on-one oral histories for The Interviews for the Television Academy Foundation, including in-depth conversations with Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ed O'Neill, and more.
At the Emmys and other press events, Amy and Nancy have chatted with many stars including Rita Moreno, Lily Tomlin, Laverne Cox, Deepak Chopra, Carol Burnett, and many others. They have also produced interviews for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame including a sit-down with Mick Jagger.
They were handpicked by OWN to be part of the VIP digital press corps covering "Oprah's Lifeclass" during Winfrey's tour of the U.S. and Toronto. Amy and Nancy founded The Passionistas Project in 2018, and through their podcast, subscription box, and events, they strive to inspire women to follow their passions and join forces in the fight for equality for all.
I’m so honored that they accepted my invitation to share their story and mission with us at the DaliTalks Podcast. Tune in to…

While it seems that people are more open to speaking about taboo topics such as mental health, racism, black women’s hair, and black bodies, the support is not always there. From the "fro" to hair wraps, to braids, Black women use their hairstyles as a personal expression of who they are. They show the evolution of Black culture over time, an evolution that has brought us to a time when more and more Black women are embracing the natural beauty of their own hair. However, it doesn't escape controversy.
This is what led Tunisia Lacy-Lumpkin to publicly speak about mental health in BIPOC communities and to carry out research on black men’s perspectives of black women’s hair. Her research was successful and earned her the title of Doctor of Philosophy for her dissertation on "What I Like: Chronicles of Black Males' Perspectives of Black Women's Hair".
She shared segments of her research in this episode and highlighted:

Have you ever had a moment when you achieved something great, and suddenly you thought, “I just got lucky” or “this only happened because of that person who hooked me up”.
Well, that, my friend, is called imposter syndrome and you are not the only person who has it. It’s something I spoke about with Nando Rodriguez, who is recognized as a magnetic, dynamic, and passionate coach in New York City who drives clients to their breakthroughs by inspiring deep insightful work to reach their maximum potential.
Nando is a proven disruptor with a unique skill-set blending: NLP, ontology, and a dash of tough love, Nando gets his clients (celebrities, influencers, and entrepreneurs) to smash their imposter syndrome and transform their mindset, actions, and lives.

The contribution of immigrants in countries like the United States cannot go unnoticed. That is why it is vital for their experiences to be told and heard because when people don’t understand others’ experiences it is easy for discrimination to happen.
To highlight immigrants and their uniqueness, I speak to Heidy De La Cruz, mother, blogger, poet, and podcaster of The American Dream In The Eyes Of Immigrants where she has beautiful and insightful conversations with immigrants so that listeners can dispell myths, stereotypes and prejudices about them.

Behavioral patterns are a strong determinant of one’s life and just like adults ensure to cultivate positive routines in their life, it is important that children do the same.
These can be patterns like what time to go to bed, how many hours you spend on your phone or where you place your keys or bag.
Once such patterns are nurtured at a young age, the likelihood of children practicing such patterns as they grow up is high.
Julie De-Lucca Collins shared her expertise on this subject in this episode. As a Holistic Business and Life Coach, Julie helps confused and overwhelmed women build and run a business, create the right strategy, habits, and daily action to be profitable and make a positive impact.
She shared with us in this episode how positive habits in children can influence their lives for the better.

Parenting is often difficult in certain aspects and any parent can testify to this.
But what happens when you are a person dealing with a chronic illness like Parkinson’s disease?
Truthfully, it gets challenging and exhausting. However, as a parent with a chronic illness you can still cater to yourself and your children. Jennifer Maharajh is a testament to this as she has been able to execute her parenting roles and lead a successful business.
As an author, Parkinson's warrior, global summit producer and speaker, health/wellness entrepreneur, and above all, as a parent and wife, she shares her experience with us in this episode.

The media we consume has a profound influence on how we see, understand, and treat people, both those within and different from our own race or ethnicity, and that is why representation is important.
It helps kids build their perspectives on their own ethnic-racial group, as well as that of others and because of that parents ought to encourage their kids to view media content that is diverse.
In this episode, I speak to Joshua Lorea who has championed the need for diversity in comic characters and representation in media by publishing his comic book Nahualli, Modern Aztec Heroes: Volume 1 to highlight people of color and their experiences.

LGBTQ+ people exist, they are in our families, workplaces, and schools and we can no longer ignore their presence.
Due to their classification, the majority face discrimination and this is not right because just like other people they have human rights.
In schools especially, there is a divide between teachers, school administration, and parents on whether issues surrounding LGBTQ+ should be taught to students.
Much as everyone is entitled to an opinion surrounding how they would want their children to be raised, it is important to be aware of the diversity in the world and for that case needs to be addressed and that is why Destiny Clarke, an LGBTQ+ Educational Consultant and former teacher who helps teachers, school leaders, and caregivers create communities of care for LGBTQ+ youth graced us with her point of view.

With schools focused on educating children to ensure they are excelling in their grades, they may tend to miss out on teaching them about bullying, which is important to create a safe learning environment.
I came to this realization after years of volunteering at schools and then selling my anti-bullying services to schools.
With the first step in most cases being reporting bullying incidents to the school, children need more in-depth education about bullying because when a child is victimized, parents need the help of educators to make sure bullying is addressed. Parents and school leaders need to ensure that the victim is kept safe and that other children have an understanding of how to treat others.

A number of states in the U.S. have seen a surge in deadly street racing amidst the pandemic and some of the individuals involved are younger drivers.
Much as they participate in such an act for fun, due to the nature of their driving, accidents are bound to happen and death occurs.
Such deaths are very unfortunate because with the right measures in place, they would have been managed and this is what led Reina Jackson, a wife, and mother of six children to launch the AJ Project, Inc. in September 2021.
In May 2021, her firstborn child Ajanni passed away tragically in a car accident in which speed was a factor and Reina decided to use the AJ Project as a solution to this crisis which the U.S. Secretary of Transportation has recently declared a national crisis targeting young adults 13-21.
The AJ Project also shares the truth about the deadly dangers of Illegal Street Racing & Reckless Driving and also offers bereavement services to mothers & families.

While some people have grown out to become the superstars that they are today, your favorite celebrity/movie stars did face bullying as kids and those incidents shaped them. This was the case for Tonatiuh, with more than a decade of experience on stage, screen, and in the VO booth, Tonatiuh is an actor and screenwriter. He is currently a series regular on the ABC drama PROMISED LAND playing the role of Antonio Sandoval - who embodies a bully-victim which is a common reaction by some victims of bullying as a way to survive, and deal with their pain. During our discussion, Tonatiuh talks about:
Bullying within the family. Understanding that we have to accept how our actions are received, even when we especially when we hurt someone. The large impact that bullying has on society and social issues. His forgiveness journey. The importance of having loving people around you to help get you through bullying experiences and/or trauma. Small acts of activism. The importance of focusing on the cause of kids’ misbehavior and empowering them to choose how to deal with their actions and emotions.
Tonatiuh’s experience with bullying, and the social changes he wants to see have impacted the projects he works on. You can definitely see that in his work now and I invite you to support his work. Additional television and streaming credits include a major recurring guest star role on the forthcoming Peacock limited series ANGELYNE as well as a three-season recurring guest star arc in the GLAAD Media Award-winning STARZ series VIDA, where Tonatiuh played the gender-bending "Marcos Zamora", which landed him on the cover of the LA Times Calendar Section in May 2020. As always, I ask that you consider supporting our guests. You can support Tonatiuh by watching Season 1 of Promise Land on HULU and stay tuned for ANGELYNE, where he appears on episode 3. ANGELYNE is scheduled to air May 19th, 2022. Connect with Tonatiuh

I decided to get a little personal for this episode. So, I invited by younger child, Jess to give some parenting advice. The conversation turned out fun and insightful. If you've had moments when your teen doesn't understand what you want from them, or if they give you a confused look when you tell them to do something, Jess explains what's really going on in their brain.
Hopefully you can relate to some of the things we talk about and it is my wish that you not feel alone. Like me, you are evolving, learning every day, and your kids will love you for that!

In this episode, you will learn a bit about my personal and professional background. You'll learn some details about my childhood as an immigrant kid from Nicaragua, my single mom of six kids, my enlistment into the Army, and how I was able to FINALLY stand up for myself. This wonderful, empowering thing I learned made me a great advocate for my Soldiers, and later, it helped me advocate for my baby. Ever since, I have been teaching other parents to do the same through my business DaliTalks, L.L.C., and my program, the Diversity & Anti-Bullying Academy (#DABA).
Would you do me a favor? Would you take some time to give this podcast a review? It would help many parents like you get an idea of what to expect from this podcast and they might just find answers to some of their questions.
