Our Voices is a 30-minute round table discussion program with a Pan-African cast of women focused on topics of vital importance to African women including politics, social issues, health, leadership and the changing role of women in their communities.
On this week’s Our Voices, we put a spotlight on the digital era and how people across the world have turned to technology and social media platforms to form relationships, including those that are romantic. Hosts Auriane Itangishaka, Ginny Niwa and Simegnish Yekoye will explore the rise of online dating platforms and whether they have resulted in connections that turned into lasting relationships.
On this week’s episode of Our Voices, we spotlight initiatives that are focused on empowering teenage mothers in Africa. During this time some women struggle to adapt to the novel demands of motherhood as they experience sleep deprivation and exhaustion, feel overwhelmed and often question their adequacy as mothers. Reporters Without Borders, an international non-profit and non-governmental organization, says its studies show the number of female journalists that have been arbitrarily detained in recent years rose by 20 percent. Eighty-five percent of the study respondents say sexual harassment in newsrooms is common.
