This show is focused on learning about all segments of the energy industry, its history and the current events shaping energy's future. Talk Energy features exclusive interviews from leaders, entrepreneurs, and influencers across the energy space, with new episodes releasing twice a week. Video and clips of each episode are available on YouTube and at our website Talk.Energy.
This episode we have returning guest Doomberg. Over the years Doomberg has made multiple appearances on the show and his episodes are some of my favorite to record.
If you don't already know, Doomberg runs one of the largest paid substack newsletters and puts out some incredible content around energy, markets, business, politics, and the other craziness going on in the world.
This episode we talk about how OPEC is losing its influence and the ripple effects that will ensue if the cartel ultimately dissolves. We discuss how ESG has peaked, and how the green movement is on its last leg.
The conversation then turns to politics and what's at stake in the upcoming U.S. election. It has become increasingly apparent that "democracy" is threatening to the establishment as they try to cling to their globalist ambitions in the face of the rising popularity of nationalism in western nations.
Lastly, we talk the economy, the fed, and how alternative assets like Gold and Bitcoin will play an increasingly important role in a world where governments can't stop printing money.
Hope you enjoy the show!

This episode's guest is Nik Hulewsky, the co-founder of multiple 7 figure businesses that he has successfully built and flipped. Nik started on the corporate career path and ultimately got fired from his job.
Rather than going back to the corporate world he used an SMB loan to buy his first business, a medical payments company. After a few years he grew the revenue of that business and exited. Since then he has gone on to co-found multiple companies and is currently partnered with Chris Koerner (a previous guest on the pod).
This episode we discuss the different business pursuits Nik has chased and talk about his successes and failures. We get into some of the specific business challenges that the medical industry faces and how technology is changing that space. Lastly, we talk about what Nik is planning for the future and how his past ventures have shaped the way he views new opportunities.

This episode James shares his insights on the current state of the macro economy, including his thoughts on U.S. inflation and the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. We discuss actionable investment strategies around macro trends and what James has been paying attention to this year.
We dive into what this year's election means for the economy and the differences between Trump and Biden, highlighting their contrasting economic policies.
Lastly, we discuss Azoria Capital and how James is creating an investment vehicle that targets companies that are using a merit based approach vs the recent trends of embracing ESG and DEI.

This episode’s guest is Isaac Orr. Isaac is a Policy Fellow at the Center of the American Experiment. I came across his work by reading a recent white paper he co-authored titled “The High Cost of 100% Carbon-Free Electricity by 2040.”
A few weeks ago I put out a tweet with a chart from his report showing that the LOCE of new solar and wind project’s is significantly higher than the existing energy sources. The tweet ended up going viral and there were a lot of people in the replies with push back to the chart.
Instead of arguing on Twitter I decided to have the author of the report on the show.
This episode we talk about the methodologies of calculating the levelized cost of energy, and how there are various ways to distort the results. We dive into the politics of energy sources what specifically what Isaac’s state Minnesota is proposing. Lastly, we look under the hood of how the value of energy is calculated and try to better understand the true cost of energy.

This episode’s guest is Zion Lights, the founder of Emergency React. Zion is a climate activist and was once a member of Extinction Rebellion.
I have been accused of having a bit of an echo chamber on the podcast, which is probably fair criticism, so I wanted to have Zion on the pod to get her perspective on Energy and climate.
This episode we discuss Zion’s past working with climate activists and how she got turned off by their refusal to embrace anything but wind and solar.
We talk about her time spent working with Michael Shellenberger and how she eventually got comfortable with backing Nuclear energy as a way to reduce carbon emissions.

This episode we discuss the recent trend of ESG investing and how difficult it is to come up with consistent metrics that define what ESG actually is. We talk about how the E, the S, and the G often have conflicting objectives and ultimately there is a lot of subjectivity involved in deciding the criteria what constitutes ESG. We dive into the hypocrisy around ESG and why often times many of the companies that are highly listed on these ESG indexes don’t actually help the environment or benefit us socially.
Lastly, we discuss Mark’s investing strategy and how he thinks there is opportunity for deploying capital into industries that have been unfairly constrained by the ESG mafia.

This episode we talk about the current state of the capital markets and how Mike is viewing investing in this environment. We chat about his history as an entrepreneur and the different start-ups he has founded. The discussion moves to Bitcoin mining and Mike’s view on the publicly traded Bitcoin mining companies and where he sees value and risk. Lastly, we discuss the corruption and fraud in the crypto and Defi space and how when things seem too good to be true, they often are.

This episode’s is a recording from Scott’s mining conference where I got to moderate a panel with Jason Williams (Parabolic Guy) and Greg Beard the CEO of Stronghold Digital.
If you are listening to this on the podcast app, I would highly recommend hoping over to YouTube because Scott’s conference did a fantastic job on the audio/visual for this and the video recording is top notch professional. Also I made Jason put on the Pit Viper sunglasses before starting the interview and he looks awesome.
This episode we talk about Bitcoin mining with the alternative sources of energy that I would personally consider renewable, even though they are technically coal and oil.
These guys have both built businesses that are harnessing waste energy to create new viable economic use cases through Bitcoin mining. We also discuss the complexities of having a vertically integrated Bitcoin mining operation.
Lastly, we touch on how sustainability doesn’t have to mean just wind and solar, it means driving efficiencies in energy consumption. In Bitcoin mining, one man’s wasted energy, is another man’s treasure.

This episode we have returning guest back to the show, Doomberg. This is an energy podcast but Bitcoin is energy backed money and as some of you may be aware, is a topic that is one of my favorites to cover.
The Doomberg team has written numerous pieces criticizing Bitcoin and Crypto broadly) and we have had a few back-and-forth exchanges on Twitter about the topic.
After the latest piece on Bitcoin (https://doomberg.substack.com/p/a-spot-of-bother-for-bitcoin?s=r) Doomberg reached out to set up a time to come on the podcast to discuss.
We have a lot of common ground in our viewpoints, but some key differences in opinion. We both felt it would be productive to have a nuanced discussion on the topic for the listeners.
This episode we have a robust discussion about Bitcoin and our definition of money. We dive into arguments on if Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme (or the next world reserve currency). We talk about the energy usage and the other criticisms around stablecoins that Doomberg has covered in their substack pieces. Lastly, we try to find common ground on some things that we might agree with each other on Bitcoin.

This episode’s guest is Craig Lawrence, Partner and co-founder of Energy Transition Ventures. Craig is an outspoken advocate of the green movement and the energy transition, and needless to say we don’t see eye-to-eye on many energy topics but that’s the exact reason I wanted to have him on the show.
We've often gone back and forth in the replies on Twitter and eventually we decided to sit down and have a conversation. For those of you who may have wanted to see a fiery debate… I hate to break it to you but I think we found quite a bit of middle ground in this episode. This is why nuanced thoughtful conversations are so important, energy is complicated, a lot gets lost in the soundbites.
This episode we cover a lot of topics on the energy transition. We talk about all the usual suspects - solar, wind, electric vehicles. Hopefully whichever side you fall on in the energy debate you can take something useful from our conversation.

This episode’s guest is Chris Hare. The CEO of PRTI, where he is recycling used tires, breaking them down into their raw components and generating power to mine Bitcoin with it. As far as I’m concerned, this is the energy transition! Converting what would otherwise be a waste product, converting it into useful materials, harnessing the energy into a digital store of value that has no shelf life, and can be sent around the world at the speed of light. Pretty amazing stuff!
This episode we discuss the massive worldwide problem of trying to recycle old tires. In the US alone we dump 300 million tires per year! We talk about how PRTI has cracked the code on how to turn what most would consider trash, into a profitable and scalable business model. Lastly, we discuss how Bitcoin mining is a free-market solution that is driving sustainable energy technologies and completely changing the way we think about the future of energy.

This episode’s guest is Daniel Turner. Daniel is the Founder and Executive Director of Powering the Future, where he is advocating for American Energy.
I follow Daniel on Twitter and I love the messaging he puts out around promoting the use of our domestic energy resources. It makes sense because the United States has lead the world in energy innovation and has unlocked hundreds of years of recoverable reserves, creating thousands of jobs in the process. This should be celebrated by everyone, but instead of embracing this accomplishment, the current administration seems to be in favor of outsourcing our energy from China in the form of wind and solar.
This episode we discuss Daniel’s organization “Powering the Future” and the initiatives they are working on. We talk about the current energy policy blunders that are being pushed forward and the hypocrisy Daniel sees in the green movement. Lastly, we discuss national security considerations and how we should be embracing American Energy, instead of opting in to a future where we outsource our vital resources to our number one rival, China.

This episode’s guest is Dan Haley, the President and CEO of the Colorado Oil & Gas Association. Dan has been in this position since 2015 and it has put him on the frontlines of the policy discussion for oil & gas regulations in Colorado.
I’d been paying attention to Dan’s content that he puts out on LinkedIn and knew that he would be a great spokesperson for the industry to have on the podcast.
This episode is filled with discussions about narrative battles that oil & gas is facing and what the industry can do to fight back. We talk about how environmental regulations that constrain domestic production will result in non-domestic barrels being produced that ultimately lead to worse ESG outcomes. This episode’s guest is David Ramsden-Wood, the Host of the Hot Take of the Day podcast.
DRW is a guy that I’ve wanted to have on the podcast for a while now and is someone that is outspoken in the energy content space, and he’s also not afraid to speak his mind about pretty much any controversial topic there is.
I’ve often posted about how there are few people left in this world that have principles, and by principals I mean beliefs that you are willing to stand up for and be vocal publicly about, even if it has the chance to lose you money or hurt your livelihood.
I think that David has gotten to a point in his career where he feels like he is un-cancellable, and I think that’s a good thing because whether you agree with him or not, I think we need more people in this world that are willing to speak up for what they believe is right.
This episode is filled with discussions about the hypocrisy that is going on in the mainstream energy narrative that we are all fed from the media. As to be expected we talk about nearly every controversial hot topic in the news today and get DRW’s hot take on each issue.
The reoccurring reference I keep mentioning during our discussion is Bizzaro World, a fictional planet in the DC comics universe that superman visits where everything is backwards. Where up is down, and down is up, and all that you see is the opposite of what it should be. And I can’t shake the feeling, we are living in that world today.

This episode’s guest is Alex Epstein the author of the Moral Case for Fossil Fuels and the founder of the Center for Industrial Progress.
Alex is a Philosopher by trade and is known for his objectivism and using critical thinking to craft his arguments. Many may think of Alex as just an advocate for the fossil fuels industry, but in practical terms fossil fuels are just a means to his end.
Alex’s true loyalty lies in whatever form of energy will bring prosperity and flourishing to human conditions around the world.
This episode is filled with discussion around social media censorship, the paradoxes of the modern energy debate, and if there is a possibility for fossil fuels and renewables to co-exist.

Between main episodes of the podcast I’ll be release “Talk Energy Direct” (TE Direct) which will be a solo cast series where I talk directly with the listeners. These episodes will also be available on the main Talk.Energy channel for Spotify and Apple Podcasts. We are also going to be posting the full TE Direct episodes along with clipped out versions to the YouTube channel.
The Talk Energy Direct series is a way for me to connect directly with listeners in an unscripted way that is unformatted and therefore open ended on how I take it each episode. I’ll likely be doing recaps and behind the scenes commentary on the main episodes as well as talking about topical issues in the energy industry. More than anything I just wanted another way to connect with listeners and keep creating content.
This episode covers:
· The format of the Talk.Energy podcast
· Why I decided to start a podcast
· What my goals are with the show
· The work I did to get the show up and running
· A recap of the first episode
This episode’s guest is Ashley Zumwalt-Forbes. Ashley is a born and raised Oklahoma native with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Ashley is the co-founder and President of Black Mountain Metals, where her company is betting big on the raw materials that will supply the future growth in energy storage.
This episode is filled with international travels, hostile takeovers, and the savvy business dealings of a young and talented woman executive in Energy.
The future of energy is constantly evolving, and the goal with this show is to learn as much as I can about the possibility of what that future could look like.
Join me on Talk Energy and hopefully we can walk away with not only a better understanding of energy, but also of the amazing stories of the people that bring it into our lives.
