Sometimes the simplest of disagreements have some dope life lessons attached to them. Let me make you a cup of tea while I share yet another instance where I needed to put my pride aside and just be wrong. Admitting that I was wrong was more freeing than anything to be honest. I think we all should do it more often.

The thermostat creates the environment, defines the temperature, and influences the mood of any space. The thermometer reads the room, measures the temperature, and responds to accordingly to change. What if my parents weren't my parents, we were the same age, and we crossed paths? Would we be friends? How might that friendship look? As we all age, I've been thinking and rethinking about my individual relationships with each of my parents. I definitely think it's important for the parent-child dynamic to evolve over time. Understandably, it's easier for the parent(s)/guardian(s) to only see their child as their "child" selves, even after the child has become an adult. Yet, I've seen how that can make things difficult for the adult child who wants to be treated as their adult selves in the eyes of their parent(s)/guardian(s).
What are your thoughts? Would you be friends with your parent(s) if y'all were the same age and not family?

As another one of my dimensions, I'm a graduate student. At the time of posting this episode, I'm a Ph.D candidate in Sociology approaching the 5th year of my dual master/doctorate program. After graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology, I immediately began my doctorate journey. The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program played an enormous role leading up to the start of my grad school journey and I am forever grateful. As I approach the end of my grad school process, I've been reflecting on how much of the information that I've learned in coursework and individual research is largely inaccessible. Access to many books, research articles, and other information either requires enrollment in a college/university, or paid subscription to an academic repository. Or the words are just too big, the concepts are too abstract, and the overall writing is dry and difficult to understand.
So I thought, what if I made the information more accessible? What if I somehow made an audiobook out of academic research? And what if I gave some behind-the-scenes look of how academic research comes to life from the researchers themselves through interviews? What if I shared my own academic journey by reading my own work and sharing it with the public? What if I also shared about the depths of the graduate school experience from navigating the application process to life after graduating? What if...?
With this series, I'll be answering all of those "What if..." questions and creating new questions that need answers along the way.
