Luke 15 tells three stories—the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost sons—to reveal God’s heart for the lost and heaven’s joy over repentance. In this message, Pastor Casey shows how we can be lost in two ways: like the younger son who runs far in obvious rebellion, or like the elder son who stays close yet lives in self-righteous distance. But the hero of the chapter is the Father—our prodigal God—who pursues with recklessly extravagant grace, runs to the repentant, restores them as sons and daughters, and invites even the self-righteous to come inside and celebrate.🖥️ Learn more at ashlandcc.net📱 Stay connected with us on Facebook and Instagram!Subscribe for more sermons and share to encourage others!#LostAndFound #ProdigalGod #Luke15 #ToSeekAndToSave #AshlandCommunityChurch #GospelOfGrace

When the crowds press in, Jesus turns and sets the terms of discipleship: allegiance to Him above even family and self, daily cross-bearing, and open-handed surrender of our possessions. Through the parables of the tower and the king, He urges us to honestly consider the cost before we start—because grace is free, but following Jesus will cost us everything. And like salt, disciples who refuse the cost lose their distinctiveness and usefulness. This message calls us to count the cost, trust Christ, and finish the race.

In Luke 14, Jesus exposes the heart behind why we come to Him. Pastor Casey walked us through three bad reasons—pride (vv. 1–6), honor (vv. 7–11), and reimbursement (vv. 12–14)—all rooted in self-interest. Then, he showed us the best reason to come to Jesus (vv. 15–24): because He alone is better than anything else the world can offer. This passage challenges us to examine our motives. Do we come to Jesus for what we can get out of it, or because we truly believe He is more valuable than wealth, honor, or status? In the end, the only lasting reason to come to Christ is because He is Lord, Savior, and the bread of life who satisfies forever.#AshlandCommunityChurch #Sermon #Luke14 #JesusIsBetter

In Luke 11:29–12:12, Jesus confronts the crowds with the truth of who He is and exposes the hypocrisy, fear, and misplaced trust that keep people from following Him. Pastor Joe Abdelghany shows us that Jesus doesn’t leave us with vague religious options—He demands a response. Will we seek the signs we want, cling to the approval of others, or live in fear? Or will we trust the One who is greater than Jonah, greater than Solomon, and who promises the Spirit’s help when we stand for Him?

This passage reminds us that being confronted by Jesus is not meant to crush us, but to free us into bold, faithful living rooted in His power and truth.

Josh Crawford - Feb 16, 2022 Discussion Questions: Chapter 20 1. What does it look like to live FOR the heart of Christ vs. to live FROM the heart of Christ? What are some examples? (pg.181) 2. Ortlund talks about the battle of the Christian life is "to bring your own heart into alignment with Christ's". What means has God given you to help with this? What does this battle look like day by day? (Pg.181) 3. When we read Galatians and hear the term "works righteousness" we think of our salvation or the occasional way in which we realize we are trusting in works. Ortlund states that our resistance to Christ's heart is much more deep, subtle, and pervasive. Why is our "works-ness" so hard to detect? (Pg. 186) Chapter 21 1. Take a look at Romans 5:6-11. What does this passage reveal about the heart of Christ and who we were/are? (Pg. 191) 2. How does Paul's deepest burden from Romans 5:6-11; our present security because of Christ's past work; affect the way we live tomorrow? Chapter 22 1. Ortlund talks about how Christ loves differently than we do. What ways have you seen that in your life, in your relationships? (Pg. 198) 2. Reflect on the fact that Christ loved his own all the way through death itself. Ortlund says that it means for us 1) our future is secure and 2) he will love us to the end. Chapter 23 1. Ortlund highlights the glory of God. We are to enjoy the glory of God but how? Ortlund make a bold statement on pg. 208: "The creation of the world was to give vent to the gracious heart of Christ." How does this truth help us know how to enjoy God? Read Ephesians 2:7 and pray. Thank God for His immeasurable grace in kindness and how He has poured it out in you and us.

This week's (Jan. 26) study through chapters 8, 9, 10 and 11 were in small group format. In the audio, Kyle reads off the following questions. If you would like them emailed to you, let us know!  Chapter 8 1. Have you ever really thought about what Jesus is actually doing at God’s right hand on a daily basis? What would your answer be if someone asked you that question? 2. What is the role of a mediator? 3. What is the role of an intercessor?

What is the difference between the two?

  1. What do you think the author of our study book meant when he said “Intercession is the constant hitting “refresh” of our justification in the court of heaven?”
  2. As our mediator/advocate, Jesus is fully familiar with both parties involved (God and humanity). How does that make you feel? Chapter 9 Why is it important that Jesus is both an intercessor and an advocate? Not one or the other, but both? What is the significance of the word “propitiation?” On page 91 we read of Jesus’s heart, how does this change your daily life? Your sin? How you love your neighbor? Chapter 10 • How has Jesus surprised you from when you first believed until now? • Do you ever feel like the love of Jesus is too good? • Do you just know intellectually that Jesus loves you or have you felt it? • How can we know if we have felt the love of Christ? Chapter 11 Have you ever thought about Jesus’ permanent humanity? What difference does it make? What is your favorite story about Christ’s life? Why? When we see Christ interacting with people in the gospels, “we are seeing who Jesus is for us today” (104). Have folks read Matt. 20:29-34; Mark 1:40-41; Luke 7:11-13. What emotion are we seeing? Ortlund tells a story about seeing a man with leprosy and feeling what he calls “tepid compassion.” He notes that the fall has ruined his emotions so that he does not feel appropriately. Can you relate? Jesus, however, being sinless, always experiences the appropriate emotion in perfect measure. Have folks read Matt. 18:5-6; Matt. 23:13, 16, 23, 25, 27, 29; John 2:15. What emotion are we seeing? How do you reconcile the two emotions? How do you know whether he is angry or compassionate toward you?
