Thank you to all of you who have been listening to this podcast so far. To date, this podcast has been downloaded by over 200 people across 15 episodes.
THANK YOU! Your support means a lot to me.
As I have mentioned in a previous episode or two, I am also starting another business as I am launching LTL. It has been hard to maintain and produce a quality product in both businesses. As a result, I am going to change up my production schedule with this podcast and stop releasing episodes for the summer as well as add in some interview episodes as well. I will not be releasing any new episodes for the next three months.
My goal is to continue writing episodes as well as schedule interviews for future episodes. Over the next three months, I will have written, produced, and recorded several episodes that will be ready for release weeks, if not months, in advance. This will allow me to make sure the content that you are receiving in these episodes is high-caliber, well-produced, and available on a consistent basis.
My goal is to release a new LTLP Episode on Monday, September 5, 2022. In the meantime, you can always visit www.leadershipthatlasts.net for additional resources on leadership. Also, if you have not done so already, please sign up for the LTL email list so you can be up-to-date with the latest content and important news about LTL.

The world seems to celebrate extroverted people as leaders because they tend to be outgoing, talkative, and do not mind being the center of attention? While those traits are true of extroverts, they do not always make for great leadership. Like with any personality, a person can misuse their characteristics to harm.
However, in this episode of the Leadership That Lasts podcast, you will learn the three extroverted characteristics that can help make great leaders. The same traits that these humans offer(ed) the world – Winston Churchill, Bill Clinton, Bette Midler, Margaret Thatcher, Oprah, and Muhammed Ali.

While on the road back home from his grandmother’s funeral, Greg shares the importance of building your legacy today.
You will die one day. If someone sat down to write your eulogy and say a few words about your life, what would they say? Would they have a hard time writing about you because you had nothing of value to give? Or, would they have a hard time writing about you because your life was filled with so much value?
Do not wait to leave a good legacy until tomorrow. You are not promised it.
A strong legacy needs to begin to be built today!
I almost quit Leadership That Last. I almost quit on you.
And for that, I am sorry.
I let insecurity and comparison creep in and almost destroy something that I believe in and desire to share with you. But I am not looking at this as a negative, but rather as a positive.
I will be back stronger and more focused now that I know how I could have been easily derailed.
See you next week on the Leadership That Lasts podcast.
The Five Common Elements to Effective and Sustaining Leadership Guide → https://www.leadershipthatlasts.net/fiveelementsintro
In today’s episode, you will learn when quitting is okay, how to quit well, and how to remove the stigma around quitting. You, like so many other people, probably have a negative feeling when you hear the word “quit”. Some common words to describe quitting are, give up; leave; remove from; to admit defeat. You can do a disservice to yourself as a leader if you live and die by the mindset that you never quit.
There are times when it is okay to quit and this episode of the Leadership The Lasts podcast will help you gain a better understanding of then those times are. This quote from Rich Karlgaard, the author of Late Bloomers: The Power of Patience in a World Obsessed with Early Achievement sums up the point of this episode perfectly.
“It's just as important to know when to drop something and shift direction as it is to know when to stick with something. When we quit the things that aren't working for us, we free up our willpower and perseverance for the things that really do matter.”

In today’s episode, you will learn about the differences between introversion and extroversion and how which one makes a better leader. And, it may not be the one you think it is.
The information in the episode may surprise you as it surprised me while researching it. Regardless of which personality trait you favor, it is important to understand the differences between each trait.
In doing so you will be able to know yourself better as well as those around you better. This will help you be a better leader since you will be able to care for those in your leadership well.

The Five Common Elements to Effective and Sustaining Leadership Guide → https://www.leadershipthatlasts.net/fiveelementsintro
In today’s episode, I am going to share with you how the five common elements of effective and sustaining leadership I talk about in the past few episodes come together to help you in your leadership. While these five elements may seem random they support each other as they support you in helping you be a leader for life.
In episode 002 of this podcast, I did a high view of those elements and in the last five episodes, I talked a little deeper about each element. (If you have not listened to those episodes I highly encourage you to give them a listen after this episode.)
Even if you do not know about the elements, you will get a better understanding of them from this episode. The Five Elements of Effective and Sustaining Leadership are Self-care, Compassion, Service, Integrity, and Vision.
All of the elements or characteristics are fantastic for you to have on their own, but today I want to show you how using them in your leadership all the time will help you be a leader for life. I have put these in a pyramid structure to help you see how they work together. This is not a random reason, there is significance to why I have placed them in a pyramid.
The point of these five elements and this element pyramid is to give you a framework to consider as you more within your leadership. There are so many important things you need to be focusing your attention on as a leader. I want to help you not have to “figure out” the broad view of leadership while you tackle the things that are right in front of you.
If you can work on these five elements or characteristics of your leadership you will have a greater chance to be an effective leader for life!

The Five Common Elements to Effective and Sustaining Leadership Guide → https://www.leadershipthatlasts.net/fiveelementsintro
In this episode of the Leadership That Lasts Podcast, Greg talks more about vision, the fifth element in Five Common Elements of Effective and Sustaining Leadership. You will be introduced to how to plan your vision, communicate the vision well, and how important your vision is to your legacy.
Having a plan for your vision will help you create a strong vision. Sharing your vision with others can be beneficial to the success of your vision because it will help you see the potential holes in your vision.
Once you have a vision you need to make sure that you communicate the vision effectively to your team. Remember that you have been living this vision but your team has not. They will need to hear the vision over and over again to really grasp it. Your communication goes beyond the verbal. You communicate your vision in the actions that you take with your team and others.
A strong vision will help ensure that you are leaving a strong legacy for your team, family, etc. As a leader, you should be thinking about who can take over when you are no longer in leadership. You will not be the leader forever and one day someone else will be in your position. Are you leaving a strong legacy for them by having a quality vision that is being lived out by your and your team?

The Five Common Elements to Effective and Sustaining Leadership Guide → https://www.leadershipthatlasts.net/fiveelementsintro
In this episode of the Leadership That Lasts Podcast, Greg talks more about integrity, the fourth element in Five Common Elements of Effective and Sustaining Leadership. As a leader, you will face certain pushback from the people you lead, your customers, the culture, and countless other places.
Being a leader with integrity will help you be an effective leader through those tough times. Not only that, but it will help the people you are leading know that you are someone worth following.
Two ways that you can help ensure you are a leader of integrity are to build resilience and know your values. If you do not have resilience and values, then you will be prone to change your course very easily.
Oftentimes you will be faced with a, seemingly, easier way towards your goal. However, that easy way would mean compromising your integrity. Being strong in your integrity will be an example to those you are leading as they face their own moment of potential compromise.
RESPONSE QUESTION - Write out three values that define your leadership. Then three people who know you, if these three values are true to what they experience of you?

The Five Common Elements to Effective and Sustaining Leadership Guide → https://www.leadershipthatlasts.net/fiveelementsintro
In this episode, Greg shares his thoughts on what it means to be a servant leader. Service is the third element of the five common elements of effective and sustaining leadership. In understanding the character of service Greg will highlight the three aspects of
Effective leadership seeks to serve others. The goal of being a leader is not to get others to serve you, but for you to serve others and empower them to operate in their gifts.
Being a servant leader is being an authentic leader. You are able to admit your shortcomings to allow your team to see where they can help you as you provide the resources they need to be able to help the overall goal. If you have a servant mindset in leadership you will begin to build a servant mindset community and culture.
RESPONSE QUESTION - What is one way that you can provide value to one individual this week?
In this episode of the Leadership That Lasts podcast, you will learn three things that you can do to become a more compassionate leader. Just as you go through hardships in life and in your career, so does everyone else. Having more compassion as a leader will help you better connect with those under your leadership from your employees to your kids.
The three things that will help you in your compassion towards others is
The more compassionate you are towards people increases the chances of them being compassionate to you. There is some work involved with being a compassionate leader, but it is something that everyone can be if they desire to.

In this episode, we will be taking a closer look at self-care, the first of the five common elements of effective and sustaining leadership, and why it is one of the most important characteristics of a leader. Specifically talking about mental health and physical health and how Greg has dealt with both in his life and leadership. In addition, Greg will share a few ways in which you can grow in your self-care today.
All leaders must be able to take care of themselves before they can take care of others. Focusing on mental and physical health is important in the overall care of a leader and ultimately those they are leading.
There are several ways in which a leader can work on their mental and physical health.
MENTAL1. Talk to others about how you feel. You will be surprised by how helpful it is to simply get your thoughts out of your head. We can internalize our feelings and play a thousand scenarios in our heads about a situation we are going through.
2. Break up your routine. In other words, take a break from the craziness of life and allow yourself to experience a different perspective of your current situation. Go for a short walk outside without your phone and experience the nature around you or call that friend you never have time to call.
3. Stop comparing yourself with others. We live in an ever-connected world where we can experience a small part of people’s lives. This insight into others' lives can cause us to compare their reality with ours. This can be depressing. Understand that you are only seeing a small part of their lives and it is never as good as it seems. Everyone has baggage and things they do not like about their realities, do not believe their filtered lives.
Here are two helpful resources* on mental health:
PHYSICAL1. Go for a walk. A little walking can go a long way. If you simply walked a quarter mile a day (roughly 550 extra steps) you will walk over 91 miles in a year!
2. Drink more water. The human body is made up of 60% water! Over half of your body is water. Drinking water is always going to be beneficial to the body and your overall health.
EPISODE RESPONSE QUESTIONWhat is one thing you can be doing today that will help your care for yourself better?

In this episode of the Leadership That Lasts podcast Greg talks about what he believes are the five common attributes, or elements, of effective and sustaining leadership. While there are seemingly countless types of leaders and leadership styles, having these five elements as part of your leadership style will help ensure that you will be a good leader for life.
The five elements of effective and sustaining leadership are:
SELF-CARE Effective leadership is founded on the idea that every leader must first take care of themselves before they can take care of someone else.
COMPASSION Effective leadership is compassionate. If the people you are leading do not feel cared for by you, then they will not give their everything for you.
SERVICE Effective leadership believes in service over self. The goal of being a leader is not to get others to serve you, but for you to serve others and empower them to operate in their gifts for the betterment of the whole team, family, etc.
INTEGRITY Effective leadership stands strong in the face of unavoidable opposition and hardship. Being a leader of integrity will ensure the longevity of self and team.
VISION Effective leadership has a vision for what is now and what is to come. If a leader does not have a vision, they may end up taking the easier path - which is often not the correct path.
These five elements of leadership will help you build a strong foundation for your overall leadership style. The elements are things to be worked on for life. You will have seasons of time where you will be very strong in some of the elements and then feel as if others are nonexistent.
