PS: Mir ist grad eingefallen, dass "three rabbits to the moon" ein weiteres Vorbild hat – die Redewendung "three sheets to the wind" bedeutet "besoffen, hacke." Die Autoren haben das alte Symbol der drei Hasen genommen und auf den Spruch gelegt!

I'm searching the great books for wisdom, and as I reread the Iliad, I realized that it has something to say about our lives – how mortals are more heroic than gods, how love is more important than patriotism, how beauty is always there for you, all around and free for the taking.
What does Emerson tell us about Life, Living and the Soul?
Reading Ralph Waldo Emerson’s poetry for “The Wisdom of 101 Famous Poems,” I wanted to know more about what he thought and wrote, especially about our search for meaning.
So I gave an Emerson expert a call – Sam Torode.
Sam has has written several books about Emerson (and other philosophers as well), the most important of which is called “Living from the Soul” – which happens to be the name of his podcast on Spotify as well.
Sam grew up in a musical and artistic family and studied American art and literature. He sings – performing in Nashville – illustrates and writes. Besides “Living from the Soul” and other books on philosophy, he’s written a novel with the intriguing title “The Dirty Parts of the Bible.”

Since the beginning of the Industrial Age it has been cool to complain about all the stress and running around and chaos in our society, from the heightened workload to the addiction of the iPhone. But where would we be without it? My Thoughts on reading Wordsworth's "The World is Too Much With Us."
Why are most love poems written by men for women? If men see women differently than they see themselves – is it also true the other way around? If I were a poet, this is what I would write in my poem for Valentine's Day.
If there is a God or if there isn't a God – the universe we live in and are a part of is still a miracle, and by living we recreate that miracle by creating ourselves. There might be a God, there might not be a god who created us, but we are all little gods creating our own selves.
Will America fall?
That’s a question that Americans and non-Americans have asked since the very first – since 1776.
That’s the question Kipling had an answer to when he wrote “Recessional,” which is about the fall of the British Empire. Today, America is the empire – and the poem applies to us, too. These are my thoughts on Kipling’s poem and on the responsibilities of empire.
The question is so un-modern, even ridiculous – yet, not too long ago our grandfathers volunteered to fight and die for their country. Today, we are hardly willing to vote for our country.
It seems to me that most everything we have today, all our privileges, rights and prosperity, comes from the work our forefathers put into the nation you were born into, whichever it was. It seems a legitimate question to ask yourself - what is your duty to that country?
The Winifred Letts poem“The Spire of Oxford” got me thinking about patriotism – these are my thoughts. I would be happy to hear your comments.
We talk about the beauty of nature, but what do we see in it that is so beautiful? It is ourselves.
Reading the beautiful poem "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer (you can watch the poem and the essay I wrote about it here: https://vimeo.com/663891269), I started thinking about beauty and nature and this is the rant that came of it.

Reading the beautiful nature poem, The Snow-Storm by Ralph Waldo Emerson, I got to thinking about life dying in winter and living anew in spring –
It's a kind of constant renewal, and even though we are sometimes not aware of it, we humans are also constantly trying to renew ourself – we seek change, a newer and better self, a new place or idea or a new weight.

Wisdom for the rest of us arose when I rediscovered and started recording the entire classic collection of Poetry, 101 Famous Poems.
As I read, I was surprised to find that these poems reflect ideas, philosophies and values that are forgotten today, yet I believe we need now more than ever. One thing led to another and I started writing and recording essays on the ideas and values reflected in those classic poems.
But even that wasn't enough: I decided to launch a podcast to accompany me on my journey to wisdom – first, through these 101 Famous Poems, then, when I am finished with that, through other books and people of wisdom.
That, and more, including 2 tales about my father, is explained in this Introduction.
