The Reboot Crew has hit the end of our job-seeking tour of Hollywood. Our last hope? The one meeting we didn't want to take...With the nicest guy in town. The simple, uncontroversial, crowd-pleasing filmmaker whose unique vision is the bleeding edge of cinema. (Isn't it?!) Yes, the Crew finally comes face-to-face with Zack Snyder, and he's rebooting the most obvious choice: Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Alleged toxic garbage person Joss Whedon wasn't always best known as the uncredited writer/director of 2017's Justice League. Before masterminding Marvel Studios' The Avengers, he was a simple TV showrunner with a dream: To mash up urban fantasy, teenage angst, slyly provocative sexuality, TV-budget superheroics, and self-aware trope-busting in an era when television had never heard such nonsense. The result was Buffy, a show which defied convention, set fandom on fire, created its own TV genre, and elevated Joss to the level of Nerd Jesus. Ah, the nineties. Such a simpler time. In a brand new millennium, where the entire landscape of entertainment has been remade in Buffy's image even as her creator has fallen, fandom's new golden boy steps up to the plate for a crack at the mother of all nerd reboots. What could possibly go wrong?

It's do-or-die time as Uncle George asks us to activate the Beta Capsule and plot his first foray into the world of superhero cinema with one of the world's biggest heroes: Ultraman! Ultraman aka Urutoraman aka the secret identity of kaiju-busting Science Patrolman Shin Hayata, was Japan's first homegrown superhero - a bona fide cultural phenomenon which grew out of the success of Godzilla and swept the East as Adam West Batmania was sweeping the West. Ultraman is a utopian science fiction character, meant to appear, in the words of designer Toru Narita, as the "Incarnation of Truth, Justice, and Beauty." The Ultra Series is the progenitor of all Japanese tokusatsu shows, including Kamen Rider and Super Sentai/Power Rangers. The franchise holds a Guinness World Record for most spin-off shows (37 and counting), and has an impenetrably deep lore and roster. Beloved, mimicked, constantly reinvented and damn near milked dry, Ultraman should be a franchise that's easy as pie to reboot, right? ... Right? Guys?

The Reboot Crew is on a job-seeking tour of the only game left in Hollywood: Streaming services! But our list of potential employers is dwindling fast, as we arrive at the offices of Netflix partner Sony to tackle their most frustrating property: Ghostbusters! Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman captured lightning in a bottle when they mashed up blue-collar comedy, Lovecraftian horror and lo-fi sci-fi to create 1984's Ghostbusters. With all-star turns from Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis, the film became one of the most unexpected hits of the 80s. But after 7 successful seasons of animated TV and one disastrous live-action sequel, the 90s could not figure out what to do with these ectoplasmic plumbers. A bevy of almost-made sequels plunged the series into development hell. Then, in 2016, a reboot exploded the franchise back across pop culture with the force and fury of a containment unit shut down by the d**kless Walter Peck. Having never met a reboot they couldn't redo, Sony responded to the non-troversy by doubling down, so a new Ecto-1 will ride AGAIN this year! But lukewarm word-of-mouth already has the studio itching for a third do-over... What's the Crew to do with a franchise that has more baggage than a cruise ship? Let's just say...The good guys dress in black, remember that, just in case we ever face to face and make contact. But it won't go how you think.

Warner Bros.' golden child JJ Abrams just yanked us back from a parallel universe to tackle one of the longest-simmering, most-hyped superhero reboots in town: SPAWN! Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is second only to the great Stan Lee when it comes to comic book hucksterism. His indie superhero passion project made good on all the hype throughout the 90s, topping comic book sales charts with millions of copies, launching one of the world's most successful toy companies, wowing critics and audiences with a revolutionary HBO cartoon, and finally hitting the big-screen with a special effects spectacular in 1997. The movie was an unmitigated bomb. Book sales tanked in short order. But the Toddfather is nothing if not persistent. For close to a decade, he's been promising an all-new Spawn movie produced, written and directed by him. He's even attached bonafide mega-stars Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner. Spawn's back on the top of the comic book sales charts. And with Bad Robot and the Reboot Crew in the driver's seat...What could possibly go wrong with this reboot? Right? Guys...?

The titans of Marvel Comics laid down a template for truly deep and compelling characters inhabiting a world fans couldn't get enough of, leading to the apotheosis of adult animation in 1986's Transformers: The Movie. The Robots In Disguise were tailor-made to become the greatest franchise in cinematic history in the era of modern special effects. Which makes it all the more disrespectful, hurtful and frankly insulting that the AXIS OF DOUCHE - namely Michael Bay, Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox and the AS*HATS running Paramount - DESTROYED Transformers for MULTIPLE generations with their so-called "film" series. Can the #RebootIt Dew Crew wash the stink of contempt off this truly venerable modern myth, and restore the vision and integrity with which it once bestrode all of pop culture?!

Reboot It is back, and we're pitching for our lives! We're on a job-seeking tour of the only game left in Hollywood: Streaming services! First up? Our old pals at Marvel Studios... The X-Franchise has not only been run into the ground, it caught fire after diving straight through the Earth's crust. Saddled with a whopping THIRTEEN FILMS scattered across AT LEAST five continuities (Bryan Singer original, First Class nouveau, Logan, Deadpool, and New Mutants, if you're keeping score), this franchise has racked up a flop-to-hit ratio that would make any studio exec blush. They've adapted nearly every major villain and milked all the major storylines (Dark Phoenix was so nice they did it twice). Through it all, the diehard fans keep getting angrier and more bitter. Regardless, the world allegedly waits with bated breath for the debut of mutants in the MCU. We already opened the door with our Wolverine pitch, so Kevin Feige has agreed to hear us plan Disney+'s big kickoff to the world of the X-Men! X-Force? X-Factor? Deadpool? Steven Spielberg's masterpiece of man vs. nature was the perfect mash-up of sci-fi thriller and family adventure, and it reinvented special effects for the modern era. But Universal milked the same formula into irrelevance with 4 (soon to be 5, with the sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) sequels that never quite found something interesting to do with the human characters. Sonic and Pikachu paved the way. It's time for the most popular video game franchise of all time to get the film it deserves. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, and Bowser may have shown up in the 1993 Hoskins/Leguizamo joint...But to say fans were unsatisfied would be an understatement. This franchise set the bar for twenty-first-century blockbusters. Then, The Hobbit happened. The bloated sequel trilogy tried to shoehorn in themes and stories ignored by the originals (plus even more walking and that banging Misty Mountains song), and doubt was cast over the perfection of Middle-Earth. Peter Jackson's long journey ultimately shied away from the classism, xenophobia, and true nature of Sauron that would make it most relevant to today. Plus, a severe lack of Eagles scenes, gender-bending, and Tom Bombadil means, yeah...We gotta reboot the second holiest of all trilogies.

The Green Lantern franchise was dead on arrival. The source material didn't help. Between seven universe-spanning super-groups, 80 years' worth of rules, prophecies, and retcons, and no less than seven different versions of the main character (Alan Scott, Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Simon Baz, and Jessica Cruz), the comics are over-stuffed and over-complicated. Yet the general public knows barely two of its characters (plus an evil space cloud, if they paid attention to the one notorious bomb Hollywood managed to produce). We're gonna reboot the sh*t out of this.

The slasher genre is the tropiest around, and NO ONE tropes harder than Jason friggin' Voorhees. It's a franchise with no direction. He's a psycho-killer with nowhere left to go (you know, having literally been to hell, space, AND New York). The story's more gimmick than narrative. And there's already one failed revival in the record books. It's definitely time for us to reboot Friday the 13th.
