O.K. Video is going into hibernation. But before we sleep, we have one last ranking episode for you. The Summer of Change was indeed that for Ryan and I, and we are going to try to keep our creative energies going and continue to make stuff. Thank you to our loyal listeners for sticking with our tiny little show.
Both Ryan and I enjoyed all of these films, to a degree, so we are splitting some hairs in order to rank them. Hopefully we explained ourselves cogently.

Greg Mottola made a movie about it, and I'm happy to report, it's still a thoughtful film about growing up a bit on the precipice of big life changes. Is it a delightful rage fantasy against the Reagan administration and their scapegoating of Oliver North, or is it a Thin Blue Line-championing, tone deaf celebration of hypocrites who are far too willing to turn their weapons on their fellow officers? The Last of the Finest is the name and it features Brian Dennehy, Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Fahey and Bill Paxton as an elite unit of skull busters who find themselves alone in their crusade against a corrupt government official who is trading guns for drugs and warping the LAPD in the process.

Underrated President
In the summer of 1982, there were two films from Universal Pictures featuring an alien visiting our planet. One was a cute little botanist named E.T. whose film set box office records. The other was about a very different sort of alien, one that brought out mistrust and terror in all it encountered. The Thing. That movie made...less money, but it eventually found its audience and Ryan and Nathan are two of them.

Westerns Ranking
No batch of westerns would be complete without the 1986 TV adaptation of Stagecoach, starring 80s outlaw country supergroup, The Highwaymen. This landmark film changed the modern western and paved the way for Unforgiven and its historic best picture win in 1992 (well, in '93 but for '92). The Campaign
Adam McKay and Will Ferrell were a legendary team, making five feature films, all of them hits (I think). Anyway, here at O.K. Video we are only interested in the odd, the offbeat, so we took a look at the worst one, The Other Guys. It's not that it is bad, it just isn't legendary. But it has some good things and one humongous laugh. Ryan and Nathan talk about that and then decide to weigh in on whether there is other life in the universe.

Ebert Ranking
In the original Speed, a bus had to maintain a speed of 50 miles per hour lest it explode. In the sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, a ship has been hacked to run at the speed of 18 knots, so about 21 miles per hour, two fifths of the speed of the original film, plus it is set in open water, which isn't exactly great at conveying motion. Anyway, Twentieth Century Fox thought they could make some more money and green-lit this sequel and Ryan and Nathan will discuss it and the controversial "thumbs up" it received by the late, great Roger Ebert. Snake is back! Accept no substitute. Ryan and Nathan look at the under-loved John Carpenter's Escape from L.A. Here we go again! Despite a pretty conclusive ending, Ripley is back! Well, not quite Ripley as you knew her. That Ripley is dead. She died on Fiorina "Fury" 161. She died saving the universe. But that doesn't matter Alien movies make money so we need to make more.
This time Ripley is actually a clone and more than that she's a hybrid human/alien. Some shady people in the future decide to clone her from a blood sample retrieved from her time on Fury 161. But they aren't interested in Ripley, they're interested in what's inside her. This week we're looking at and discussing Alien Resurrection, the eighth movie in our Space Horror batch. Under Siege 2: Dark Territory
Just a tad late to commemorate its record-shattering Memorial Day Weekend back in 1997, but still hot and ready to serve, O.K. Video brings you The Lost World: Jurassic Park, one of the few sequels in Sir Steven Spielberg's career. (O.K. Video considers itself a monarchy capable of bestowing Knighthood to filmmakers who have made sufficient "Dope" films in their career). Nathan and Ryan discuss the dinosaur franchise at large and pay respects to Eddie, the hardest working supporting character to be mauled to death in gruesomely unfair fashion. Is this also Spielberg's darkest film since Temple of Doom? I'm going to say...no. Think about it.

Our celebration of Nicolas Cage continues with Red Rock West. Lyle from Dallas (or is Lloyd from Tennessee?) is a week late. It couldn't hurt to pretend to be him for a night in order to get a job, right? Mike Williams is about to find out how wrong that decision was in this Wyoming-set, neo-noir thriller. Unless you had an HBO subscription in 1993 you probably didn't catch this when it first came out, so we're hoping we can drum up a bit of interest and get that German Blu-Ray localized for this market.

O.K. Video Weird Cop Buddies 8 Osmosis Jones
Stomach churning chicanery abounds in our final cop buddy film of the batch, Osmosis Jones. Osmosis Jones teams up with Drixenol to help prevent Frank DeTorre from kickstarting a new pandemic in this fiscally underappreciated wonder from 2001. Featuring in-grown toe-nails, fake eyelashes and salt and mayo covered eggs (a favorite of chimpanzees), this film nearly triggers the gag reflex for Ryan. Nathan had never seen it before and had a decent time thanks to the reteaming of Chris Elliott with Bill Murray. All this and ranting about the Oscars on this week’s cast.

Usually when you check into a morgue you don’t check back out. Not true in Dead Heat, the latest in O.K. Video’s look back at Weird Buddy Cop pairings. This time Roger Mortis is our oddball, raised from the dead by a miraculous new machine that gives him 12 hours to get revenge on the elite 1 percenters trying to cheat death in the underbelly of L.A. His partner, Doug Bigelow, is racked with guilt after failing to save Roger from a premature death and is duty-bound to help his friend get justice before dissolution claims him at the end of the day. With their combined strength, can they take down Keye Luke, Darren McGavin and Vincent Price before we are forced to suffer under the rule of the same extremely old, rich people for the rest of time?

Welcome to the final film in O.K. Video’s look back at Franchise Pictures, A Sound of Thunder, starring Edward Burns, Catherine McCormack and Krishna Pandit Bhanji (AKA Sir Ben Kingsley). Ride a time wave back to 2005 with us as we marvel at a pre-vis quality dinosaur, some bold predictions about the direction of automobile design and a plot hole so big Nathan fell right into it. Ray Bradbury envisions a world where time travel is real but only the super-rich can afford to make use of it, which really seems like how it would go now that I think about it. Hopefully they don’t leave the path and transform us all into geckos.

It’s the final movie of the first batch! Thanks for joining us for our inaugural season of O.K. Video.
This week we are looking at a posh costume drama directed by Stephen Frears, starring future Oscar Winner Julia Roberts, the inimitable John Malkovich, marble-voiced maestro Michael Gambon, and a puckish young Michael Sheen, amongst many other familiar faces. That’s right, Mary Reilly is our eight and final feature and in case you can’t tell from the title, this is Jekyll and Hyde for the 90s y’all!
Ryan and Nathan puzzle over this one a bit as it adopts a new vantage point on the classic tale but doesn’t seem that interested in being monstrous until it does all of the sudden. Hark, is that a Howie scream I hear? (90% sure I forgot the actual name of moviedom’s second-most famous scream during the recording). The Toast of the West End, Kenneth Branagh, directed a big, bold and certainly boisterous take on Mary Shelley's definitive work, Frankenstein, back in 1994. Surely a film produced by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Robert De Niro, Ian Holm, Helen Bonham Carter and the aforementioned spiritual reconstitution of the Bard himself won the hearts of the Academy and all who saw it, but the O.K. Video guys will determine exactly how high it should rank in the hall of cinematic masterworks.

Five, the magic number for RSS feeds. With any luck our humble little show will start to appear on podcast platforms in the near future.
For magic number five we get into this remake (or is it a sequel?) of the classic paranoid tale of invasion and body swapping, Abel Ferrara's severely underexposed Body Snatchers. This movie barely saw the light of a projector's booth when it first came out in 1993 but thanks to video tapes and television, it eventually found an audience.

O.K. Video Episode 3 Memoirs of an Invisible ManYou know what they say, third time's the smarm. Former comedy juggernaut Chevy Chase supplies that smug charm or "smarm" in this week's movie, Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Directed by John Carpenter, this movie is a weird blend of thriller and comedy that only barely meets our criteria as a Monster Movie Remake in that it is based on a conceit from that Golden Age of creature features but with an 80s yuppie twist of citrus that may be too much for Ryan and Nathan to handle.
