Episode 3 is about the climate crisis. It discusses a series of news articles and events surrounding climate change with focus on the ice in Greenland melting, the Forest Fires in the West coast of USA during August and September 2020, and whether the Paris Agreement of 2015 will be successful. I also discuss Greta Thunberg's impact on raising awareness for environmental issues and her announcement that she is returning to school- will it will put action to solve climate change on the back burner, at a time when there is increasing evidence that the climate crisis cannot be denied?
This episode discusses the geographical impacts of the oil spill off the coast of Mauritius when a Japanese Oil tanker deviated from its course and ran aground on coral. The incident took place on 25th July 2020.
We discuss the impacts to the marine ecosystems and the local community. We make links to conservation, eco-tourism and renewable energy and show how it is relevant to geography studied in the classroom.
Episode 1 examines whether new legislation regarding housing regulations will produce 'slums of the future' as predicted in the news article discussed. The conversation also considers the economic, social and environmental impacts of the new policy. The aim of the podcast is also to help GCSE and A-Level students engage with the geographical themes and make links to their exam syllabus to deepen their knowledge and understanding of geography in the world that they live in.
