This is a prayer poem. It is non-denominational and it encourages religious pluralism & tolerance. It tells a story of the past (atijo) when Nigeria was in chaos politically, economically, religiously, educationally and so on. The last line of the poem says ‘but this was in the past; because everything is now well (and there is clarity of vision for us as a nation and in our duties to the African continent but first to ourselves as individuals and collectively as a people.) We are the change we want to see.
