Today, we’ll compare Nehemiah’s mission to the efforts of modern leaders like President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who, despite obstacles and criticism, pressed forward and experienced God’s unseen hand guiding them.

1. Nehemiah’s Burden Turned Into His Mission

When Nehemiah heard that Jerusalem’s walls were in ruins, his heart broke (Nehemiah 1:4). His burden became his mission, but instead of rushing into action, he turned to God in prayer. Nehemiah knew that success wouldn’t come from human effort alone—it would require divine intervention. He confessed the sins of his people, asked for God’s favor, and submitted his plans to the Lord.

President Donald Trump’s Burden: Like Nehemiah, President Trump carried a burden to rebuild and restore. His mission was to restore America’s economic prosperity, create jobs, and prioritize national security. When he took office, the country was divided, and many doubted his ability to lead. But Trump, like Nehemiah, turned this burden into action and stayed committed, even amid criticism and opposition.
Elon Musk’s Burden: Elon Musk’s burden was innovation—transforming space exploration, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. His vision wasn’t just about technology; it was about reshaping the future of humanity. But like Nehemiah, he faced moments of crisis, including near bankruptcy, yet he stayed focused on his mission.
Lesson: Just like Nehemiah, President Trump and Elon Musk didn’t ignore the burdens they carried. Instead, they committed to their missions and moved forward with faith that their work had a purpose beyond themselves.

2. Nehemiah’s Boldness and God’s Favor (Nehemiah 2:4-8)

When Nehemiah stood before King Artaxerxes and the king asked him, “What do you want?” Nehemiah didn’t respond with human logic—he first prayed to God. Afterward, he boldly asked the king for permission to rebuild the walls, letters of authority, and supplies. God answered his prayer by softening the king’s heart, granting him royal resources and protection.

President Trump’s Bold Policies: Like Nehemiah, Trump faced opposition but remained bold in his decisions. One key example was his decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem in 2018, a move that many leaders warned would cause unrest. But Trump’s conviction led him to proceed, and the move was successful, demonstrating how bold faith-based decisions can lead to significant outcomes.
Elon Musk’s Bold Decisions: In 2008, Elon made a bold move—he invested his last $40 million into Tesla and SpaceX despite being on the brink of bankruptcy. Many saw this as reckless, but God’s favor showed up in miraculous ways. Tesla secured last-minute funding, and SpaceX’s fourth rocket launch was successful. Like Nehemiah, Elon’s bold actions were met with God’s providence.
Lesson: When leaders like Nehemiah, Trump, and Elon act boldly, God steps in to open doors and provide resources beyond what human logic can explain. Their success is not coincidence but God’s blessing on their courage and faith.

Abraham: Leadership Rooted in Faith

Abraham, the father of faith, obeyed God even when the destination was unclear (Genesis 12:1-4). His willingness to leave his homeland and trust God was a testament to bold leadership. Abraham built a foundation for generations, becoming the patriarch of a nation.

Lesson for Us: As leaders in our families, churches, and communities, we must step out in faith to embrace God's promises. Moses: Leadership Through Deliverance

Lesson for Us: Like Moses, we are called to be deliverers in our generation. David: Leadership in Worship and Courage

David, the shepherd-king, exemplified leadership through his courage and heart of worship. As a young man, he defeated Goliath with faith, and as king, he unified Israel and brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, prioritizing God’s presence (1 Samuel 17, 2 Samuel 6:12-15).

Lesson for Us: Leadership requires courage and a heart centered on God. In politics and the church, we must model David’s boldness in the face of challenges and prioritize worship in all we do. Global Jesus Mission Church aims to foster worship and leadership to transform communities and bring people closer to God.

Isaac: Hearing and Obeying God's Voice

Isaac demonstrated obedience and trust in God’s provision. He reopened the wells of his father Abraham, symbolizing a continuation of God’s covenant (Genesis 26:18-25).

Lesson for Us: Hearing God’s mission involves honoring the past while seeking His guidance for the future. In our church and universities, we emphasize listening to God’s voice to transform businesses, families, and communities.

Solomon: Wisdom for Kingdom Building

Solomon asked God for wisdom, not riches or power, and became the wisest king. His leadership led to Israel’s greatest prosperity and the building of the Temple (1 Kings 3:4-15).

Christmas is a season of joy, love, and hope, reminding us of God’s unending grace and mercy. Scripture reminds us in John 1:14: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Today’s message focuses on the ultimate gift of Christmas: hope, embodied in Jesus Christ.

Page 2: The Prophecy of Hope

Centuries before Christ’s birth, the prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah. Isaiah 9:6 declares: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

This promise sustained the people of Israel during times of despair, reminding them that God’s plan was unfolding. Likewise, in our lives, we may encounter darkness, uncertainty, or fear, but the prophecy of Christ reminds us that God’s promises are true and unchanging. The hope of the Messiah brought light to a weary world and continues to shine in our hearts today.

On that first Christmas night, God’s promise was fulfilled. Luke 2:10-11 tells us: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”

This good news transcends time, culture, and circumstance. It is the assurance that God’s love for us is so immense that He sent His only Son to save us. The birth of Jesus is the foundation of our faith, and it serves as a beacon of hope in a world often filled with chaos and despair. In Christ, we find forgiveness, restoration, and the promise of eternal life.

As we close the year 2024, let us reflect on the journey we've walked and prepare our hearts for the year ahead. How many regrets did you have in 2024? What accomplishments brought you closer to God? Life is a journey—a gift from God that calls us to align our steps with His divine purpose.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us:
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
As this year ends, let us examine our hearts and lives through God’s Word and prepare for a new season.

Let Go of Regrets (Philippians 3:13-14)
"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Reflect on the regrets of 2024, not to dwell on them but to learn and grow. Were there unfulfilled prayers or missed opportunities? Remember, God's grace is sufficient, and His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Let go of the weight of past mistakes and focus on what God has planned for you in 2025.

Remove What Distracts You from God (Hebrews 12:1-2)
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."

In life, we accumulate physical and spiritual clutter—things, relationships, and habits that pull us away from God. This December, evaluate what has distanced you from Him. Is it a love of worldly possessions, busyness, or misplaced priorities? Clear space in your life for God's blessings.

Re-center Your Heart on God (Matthew 6:21)
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Reflect on where your heart has been this year. Was it with God, or were you chasing fleeting things? When God is not at the center of our lives, we feel empty and lost. Prioritize your relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and obedience to His Word.

Rejoice in God's Blessings (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

Even in pain and challenges, God's blessings abound. I learned this through my own struggles with health this year. Remember, ordinary moments like eating, sleeping, and breathing are divine blessings. Rejoice in God’s presence and the love He has placed around you.

Pursue Holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16)
"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"

Holiness is living a life set apart for God, reflecting His character in our thoughts, actions, and relationships. Guard your heart against sin and strive to live a life pleasing to God. Avoid the temptations of the world and embrace the transformation that comes through the Holy Spirit.

Look to Those Closest to You (Proverbs 27:17)
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Sometimes, we look too far for joy and fulfillment. God often places the people we need right next to us—our family, church, and community. Strengthen these relationships and share God's love with those nearest to you.

Prepare for 2025 with God at the Center (Jeremiah 29:11)
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Introduction

Good morning/afternoon, Church. Today, we will explore two powerful topics that shape both our personal lives and professional journeys: discovering our unique calling and crafting a mission and vision that aligns with God's Kingdom. These are not just business principles; they are Kingdom principles that guide us in becoming faithful stewards of the gifts and talents God has entrusted to us.

We live in a world driven by success, but as believers, we are called to live for something more—God’s purpose. As it says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Today, I want to show you how to align your life and career with God’s plan.

Part 1: Understanding Mission and Vision (5 minutes)

Let’s first define what we mean by mission and vision.

A Mission Statement answers the question, “Why do I exist?” It defines our purpose, the core reason for our being.
A Vision Statement answers the question, “Where am I going?” It describes our future aspirations, giving us a long-term view of where we are headed.

The Bible reminds us that everything we do must align with God’s plan. In Proverbs 19:21, it says, “Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Our mission and vision should not just be about personal ambitions but about how we can serve the Kingdom of God through our talents, careers, and lives.

Part 2: Crafting a Kingdom-Driven Mission Statement (5 minutes)

Crafting a mission statement rooted in Kingdom values starts with identifying your God-given talents and aligning them with a larger purpose. In Ephesians 2:10, it says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

To craft a mission statement, consider the following:

Who are you? What has God called you to be?
What do you do? What are your gifts, skills, and passions?
Who do you serve? Your mission should not be self-serving but about helping others and advancing the Gospel.

Example: “To use my leadership and creativity to inspire others to discover their God-given potential and live purposeful lives.”

Part 3: Crafting a Kingdom-Driven Vision Statement (5 minutes)

Now, let’s talk about vision. A Vision Statement looks forward, showing where you are going. Matthew 6:33 reminds us, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Our vision must align with God’s Kingdom purpose, not just our personal ambitions.

When creating your vision statement, ask yourself:

What are my long-term goals? Are they in line with God’s purpose?
How can my vision serve others and advance God’s Kingdom?

Example: “To empower communities through technology, advancing Kingdom values of justice, compassion, and integrity.”

Part 4: Discovering Your Unique Calling (5 minutes)

Now, let’s talk about calling—your personal mission in life. Each of us is created uniquely by God, with different talents and passions. As Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Finding your calling starts with reflection:

What makes you come alive? What are you passionate about? Think about the moments when you felt the most fulfilled.

Labor Day is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September in the United States and Canada. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the well-being of the country. The day is often viewed as a celebration of the end of summer and is associated with barbecues, picnics, and various types of outdoor activities.

Origins:
The origins of Labor Day can be traced back to the labor union movements in the 19th century, which advocated for better wages, reasonable working hours, and safer working conditions. The idea for a "labor day" began as a type of demonstration or protest. Several cities claim to have hosted the first Labor Day celebration, but the most well-documented early Labor Day event was organized by Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader who co-founded the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. McGuire was inspired after seeing a labor festival in Canada and suggested a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."

First Celebrations:
The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882. It was organized by the Central Labor Union, and thousands of workers marched from City Hall to Union Square. Initially, the idea of a "workingmen's holiday," celebrated with a parade, speeches, and festivities, was not immediately accepted and was even met with skepticism or outright resistance in some quarters. However, the idea gained popularity, and other states began holding their own Labor Day celebrations.

Federal Recognition:
As the labor movement grew, so did the public's willingness to recognize Labor Day as an official holiday. In 1894, Congress passed legislation making Labor Day a national holiday, and President Grover Cleveland signed it into law, amid a period of labor unrest and strikes.

Modern Celebration:
Today, Labor Day is often seen as a day of rest and leisure, a last chance to enjoy summer activities before the onset of autumn. Many people celebrate Labor Day with outdoor events, family gatherings, and sporting activities. Retailers often hold special Labor Day weekend sales, and it's considered the unofficial end to wearing white in fashion circles.

While the holiday's roots in labor activism are not as prominent in most modern celebrations, it remains a day to honor the hard work, innovation, and various contributions that American workers have made to the country. Labor unions and other worker advocacy groups sometimes use the holiday to host events, distribute educational material, and advocate for workers' rights.
