In this episode Emma chats to Alison Quinn, a First Contact MSK Practitioner who has been working within a fellowship role with the Cornwall Training Hub to support Physiotherapists, Paramedics, Occupational therapists, Podiatrists and Dieticians transition to work within ‘First Contact Practitioner’ roles within primary care in Cornwall. This follows the implementation of the ‘Roadmaps to Practice’ by NHS England in 2021, ensuring that the clinicians are supported to complete these pathways, including supporting the supervisors of the roadmaps who are a vital resource to ensure robust accreditation and sign off. We discuss the successes and challenges for Cornwall and Alison continues to work to support this aspect of the workforce – so please get in touch if you have any further questions.

In this episode of Primary Care Spotlight we are talking about the new Skills Bootcamp for Clinical Pathways for Primary and Social Care. This is new and exciting initiative from Cornwall Primary Care Training Hub and the Future Skills Institute at Truro and Penwith College. Who have collaborated to provide a new short training course in essential clinical skills competencies for Health Care Support Workers working in primary and social care settings.
This will be a mixed cohort of primary care and social care who will work together on the sessions applicable to both groups and then will separate into their area of spciality for training specific to their area. This is an excellent opportunity for career development of primary and social care HCSWs and is particularly suitable for those no with no experience of healthcare or those HCSWs new to primary and social care

We recently held our annual countywide recruitment which was for anyone thinking of working in Primary Care. We were joined on the day by representatives from Practices across Cornwall, including GPs and Practice Managers. We also hosted several half hour workshops on the day, offering you a chance to find out more about the range of development opportunities and support available. These included:

The Safeguarding Triage Team in the council review all safeguarding concerns referred in by the public and professionals in all settings (police, social care, care homes, home care providers, hospital). They are the team that make the safeguarding threshold decision based on the guidance for section 42 of The Care Act 2014. They will also be the team that contact us as professionals requesting our support, input with care management or requesting action under the duty to cause enquiry as part of section 42 of The Care Act 2014 for patients that we have contact with.

In this episode of primary care spotlight Emma speaks with pharmacist David Jenkins about an audit tool for DOAC prescribing in general practice.
David is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a member of the South Kerrier Primary Care Network Pharmacy Team.
The team were highly commended in the recent General Practice Awards, and in October won a prestigious national Health Services Journal Patient Safety Award for their project Audit Tool for DOAC Prescribing in General Practice.

In honour of Infection prevention and control (IPC) week 2022 ‘Primary Care Spotlight’ has recorded a special edition IPC miniseries where host Emma Borders interviews Infection prevention and control clinical nurse specialist Alex Cundy on a variety of topics relating to IPC.

In this episode Emma talks about the 'Passport to Primary Care' course, a Cornwall Training Hub initiative, supporting access to primary care roles for newly qualified health care professionals/returners, those with previous experience in different health care fields, alongside those interested in non-clinical roles with no prior healthcare experience.
Passport to Primary Care is a multi-professional introductory training programme, which is delivered through pre-course learning and interactive virtual sessions. Participants are signposted to a variety of educational and training resources and following the course, they can access a range of training from Cornwall Training Hub’s prospectus based on their individual requirements.
