The Truth About Teaching, Learning and the Classroom: A casual and entertaining conversation about all things teaching, learning and education. Jeffrey Chazen is an high school Social Studies teacher for the past 28 years. He has taught American and World History, AP Government and developed his own Hist of St. Louis course which is now taught throughout the Parkway School District. Jeffrey has also coached for most of those 28 years including Water Polo, Baseball and Softball. He has also been a Social Studies dept chair and currently is a union representative.

On this episode of the Teacher's Lounge Podcast, we interview longtime Social Studies teacher and current PNEA president Pat McPartland.  Pat is a Parkway product ( Mason Ridge, East Junior and West High 1982.  He recieved his Undergrad degree at SLU, and his Graduate degree at Maryville.  Pat started teaching at West High in 1987 but was part of a 30+ teacher RIF (layoff) by the district in 1989. He then came back to Parkway at South High in 1990 and taught there til 2015, when I took on current PNEA role.  Pat has worked with Maryville in their MASTI ( MA in Secondary Teaching and Inquiry) program as an instructor and also as Co-Coordinator. He has decided to retire at the end of this school year, ending his 34 year career.

Lindsay Corsale is an educator at Mason Ridge elementary in suburban St. Louis and, perhaps more importantly, a former student of mine.  She is a 19 year veteran of elementary education.  She has taught 1st, 4th and 5th grades. She has been a Character Education Co Leader and Student Leadership Co Leader . Lindsay has also been selected as Teacher of the Year twice at Mason Ridge Elementary and Parkway Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2020.  She has also tackled the world of virtual school as a 1st grade teacher in 2020-2021.

In this episode of the Teacher's Lounge Podcast, we interview our first administrator (AND SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST). Beth Plunkett started her teaching career on the east coast, first in Pennsylvania and then Massachusetts and Connecticut.  She then made her way to the midwest and St. Louis to the Parkway school district.  She was lead teacher and eventual principal at Fern Ridge High School which is the district’s alternative high school.  She then made the switch to Parkway West High School.  After retiring as principal for 15 years, she moved into the consultant world by becoming:

  • Director of the St. Louis Leadership Academy.
  • MOSIG (MO School Improvement Grant) Coach,
  • MPSCA (MO Public School Charter Association), Executive Coach,
  • AMP (Administrator Mentor Program), Executive Coach
  • MLDS (MO Leadership Development System), Executive Coach
