Fully Devoted.: Recent Episodes

What is devotion...?

To me, it means intentionally centering myself, on a daily basis, in what means the most and pursuing it with my whole heart.

My desire is to make Jesus the cornerstone of my life... but my human ability to actually do it is gravely lacking. Join me for 3-5 minutes, weekly, as I take a tangible step toward pursuing my Savior by consuming His word and communicating it's impact on my heart. It will absolutely be imperfect but it will be a genuine step toward infiltrating my faith into every corner of my life and becoming...fully devoted.

Find me on https://www.instagram.com/fully.devoted.podcast/ (Instagram) Having good intentions is easy! I’m going to use an example that I can relate to personally…  Eating healthy. There are literally HUNDREDS of resources so accessible to us if we want to eat better, books we can buy, apps and programs we can subscribe to…even tons of free content on Youtube and Pinterest. Have a basic recipe in mind? A simple google search will give you PAGES of options. Want a specific plan to detox or support a health issue–one click can get the book to your doorstep in less than 24 hours.  Good produce is as accessible as it’s ever been. There are entire grocery stores that are designated for health food… if we really want to eat better, we can–even conveniently.    And yet…  It gets complicated, right? I LOVE fruit, especially berries, but on more than one occasion I have been parked up in front of the TV eating Gobstoppers while there are Strawberries withering in my fridge. I’ve put in the time to make a menu plan of Whole 30 approved dinners but opted for the Braums “bag of burgers” at the last minute. Somehow the healthy Sunday afternoon grocery shopper stalking up on the celery sticks and baby carrots fades into the Wednesday evening zombie that grabs the tub of Bluebell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream on the way to the toilet paper isle. It’s not a supply problem, it’s not a convenience problem and not even a lack of…good intentions. It's a discipline issue. A human issue.  Perhaps the root of the issue is my failure to acknowledge that my human desires, wants, moods, preferences are ever shifting and fickle. And without identification of this FACT and preparation for the event of inevitable failure and disciplines to combat these weaknesses, it’s a never ending cycle.    “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.”  Psalm 37:3   This verse speaks to me. This idea of “befriending faithfulness” is beautiful, it’s so gentle and intentional and so accurately depicts how we can embrace the simple concept of being faithful—not operating from the rocky terrain of my moment to moment emotions, but showing up consistently with a concise purpose in mind–knowing your WHY is so important! If you can’t clearly identify WHY you want to do something you will have nothing to motivate you when your…not feeling motivated. Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to feel better?  If you don’t won’t eat sugar–keep it out of your house! Don’t expect seer willpower to keep you out of the Oreos. If you don’t want to snooze 10 times, charge your phone across the room. Cause that 4:30am workout you planned last night is going to seem INSANE at 4:15.  Know your WHY, Prepare and simply show up, day after day, moment after moment.  A life grounded in faithfulness is not achieved in the broad strokes of good intentions but in preparation and small acts of consistency. Let's befriend faithfulness together as we become fully devoted.   Written and created by Elisabeth Cornelius 2022
