By definition friendship means the quality or state of being friendly, showing kindness, interest and goodwill toward another. Friendships have varying degrees of both emotional and purposeful benefit; however not all friendships are created equal. Like all relationships - professional or personal, friendships must be cultivated, development and nourished. When dealing with people in life, one has to be keenly aware of seasons, reasons, duration and purpose when it comes to where on the friendship circle a person one is placed. Also, equally important is for one to strive to be or become the kind of friend they would like to have, by being genuine in acts of charity, compassion, empathy, forgiveness. etc. Let's talk friendship.

In this episode of All Out with Madre Soltera Becky her co-host and guest Mikey, Cory and Tim all have different experiences walking into family court as an active duty military and a veteran. Most judges agree since military life is not stable it is not most beneficial to a child.

Becky’s Special Co-Host Mikey Rolen was able to get custody of his children regardless of his status as a veteran while Becky’s ex walked into court with his dress blues on and still was made a weekend dad. He was a marine when she met him and was active army as their child was growing up. He will say regardless of color or color of your uniform it is an uphill battle. Cory Vigil is a Navy Veteran and struggled to get custody when he was discharged. He used his experience to help other veterans for a local nonprofit. Tim Ford’s story is eerily similar. Civilian judges are not supposed to use religion to base custody but in his case they did, and now he has to pay out of pocket since his ex refuses tricare. These veterans fought so we did not have to. So why is there battle in family court so different?

Three men bonded by fatherhood and their fight against a biased system. Becky got interested in the Fathers Rights Movement when my oldest sons father had to battle the Texas AG. He was stationed in South Carolina and mother left to go back home to Texas. He put himself on child support since he is on the birth certificate and she closed the case. Becky has gotten an eye opening look on regardless of race or wealth men really do have to battle a biased system. Mikey Rollen is a statistical anomaly by beating three child custody battles for his four kids. I love how he described it ” This is chess not checkers” when it comes to your kids. Joshua Nielson is fighting for custody against Utah who sides with mothers. So what happens when sexual abuse, a GAL did not do their job, and a mother who fled to Tennessee to hide the kids. Albert Wright is fighting for his kids and even has the FBI involved. Carrollton, GA allowed drugs and abuse while a good father was willing and able and now continually railroaded by the system. Fathers have started the Fathers Right Movement and have multiple chapters across the United States.

In this Segment of Welcome to Your Fuller Life: Mom Goals we will be joined by Katherine Firestone from Firestone Institute to talk about what we want most for our kids as parents. For them to be successful. And yet so often these days parents focus on the wrong things and miss out on teaching their kids a major component of being successful: having empathy. To be successful parents, we need to shift our focus to empathy.

To succeed, kids need to do a lot of stuff, such as: be the soccer star, play the oboe, perform in all the musicals, and volunteer, not to mention, get straight A’s or forget about going to a good college. Even preschoolers leave school to then go to Spanish, music, and art classes. And if kids do all of those things, then they’ll succeed, right? Well, there is (at least) one major flaw in that line of thinking: it has completely neglected empathy development. All of those things kids need to do are about themselves: I need to build my resume. I need to be the best. It’s part of our “selfie” culture. What kids really need to be happy and successful (in other words, to thrive) is empathy. The research shows that people who can empathize are more likely to: Be healthyBe grittyBe kindFind true happinessHave strong social supportScore higher on math and reading testsThink criticallyHave moral courageBe financially sound

For most parents, not just single parents, raising their child(ren) can be quite consuming. For the first 18 years of the child’s life, most things are geared towards the betterment of the child. Most dinner decisions are created around the child’s taste. Most Summer vacations or traveling experiences have much to do with choosing kid-friendly destinations. Parents that are able to do so often choose careers that will give them the luxury of providing financially for the family and being present in the child’s daily life. Let’s face it, as intentional parents, most of what we do has much to do with our children.

As the child grows older, he or she becomes more independent, meaning that their basic needs have changed. Eventually, when parenting is done right, the child becomes a young adult and is now ready to meet the world head on. However, the complexity arises when parents realize that for the past 18 years of their own lives, they were consumed with the role of parenting. The parent must now learn how to live a life outside of catering to the child’s needs. The adult child is now away in college or moved into their own home and the bedroom that once housed loud, busy teenagers is now quiet and empty.

As single parents, the hosts will discuss ways to stay active as an adult and as a parent. Listeners will hear ways to balance parenthood and adulthood now so that when the nest is empty, the transition will be much smoother and bearable. Tips will be shared on how to prepare for that parenting season which is inevitable. Join the ladies of the Real Sage Single Moms as they discuss being a single mom and having an empty nest.

Anyone that has teenagers in their homes, their lives or in their community, have more than likely come to realize that teens are a special group of people. Teens are moving out of the childhood season of life and moving into the unknown, which is also known as young adult/adulthood.

During this transition, there are societal expectations concerning their behavior. They are expected to be more responsible socially, to have more interest in their education and college/career choices and to respect the rules and regulations in their world. During this season of life, many will begin driving but with that accomplishment, comes major responsibility. Many will get their first jobs, begin dating, determine their own fashion styles, and so on.

These are all normal components of adolescence, however, a collision often occurs when all of these expectations collide with the teen's actual behavior. For example, when a teen gets their first job, they are expected to be responsible for paying their personal bills like cell phone and clothing. However, the problem arises when the teen gets paid and spends all of his or her money on fast food or video games. The Real with Sage Single Moms will discuss these issues, and share some of their personal tips on making the teens transition into young adulthood more manageable for everyone. They will discuss the value of setting expectations for both themselves and their teens and present ways to help you keep the home front peacefully flowing during this special season of life.

We talk ourselves out of looking into the reason why we haven’t been feeling right for the last week or so. We brush off the coughs, the lump or knot that wasn’t there before and just plain ignore all the signs. What if you don’t have another day or two to wait? In the end, where would that leave your family? Who would take them back and forth to practice and cheer them on at games then? This week’s The Real with Sage Single Moms will discuss prevention and early detection of medical issues and having to cope with them while raising your children on your own.

When you take a real close look at Domestic Violence it is real to most people and affects more people than one would imagine. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 Women and 1 in 4 Men have experienced [some form of] “physical” violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. Just based on those stats alone make it unbelievable that these many people are impacted. Meaning that more than likely it impacts someone that you know if it's not you. But how about the stats that aren’t that obvious. The abuse that is non-physical which gets unnoticed and overlooked. Domestic Violence isn’t always like it’s portrayed in a Lifetime Movie. It can be verbal, financial, psychological, emotional and economical, all of which hurts still the same and the effects can last even longer. Many times these types of abuse goes on undetected and may never get to become physical before the damage is already done. So if that is the case, what would the number really look like: 2 in 3, 3 in 3 who knows? Either way it is a shade, a form, a type of Domestic Violence and no one should have to endure any of it physically or not at any level. We hope to bring some awareness to unleashing the scars that aren’t definitely seen.

Special Guest: Alissa R. Jones – Survivor’s With Voices Foundation

The dictionary states that child support is “funds to be paid by one parent to the custodial parent of a minor child after divorce or separation. Usually the dollar amounts are based on the income of both parents, the number of children, the expenses of the custodial parent and any special needs of the child.” The debate on what child support funds should be used for continues to get more and more heated as the number of single parenting cases rise. Some women feel it’s okay to use the money for whatever they want to as long as the child is being cared for and some men feel the money needs to be accounted for penny by penny as directly being used for the child(ren)’s needs. Hosts Monica “MoGeSu” Sumter and Danielle “Virtuous Diva” Harrell will talk about their own personal experiences and get feedback hopefully from both males and females on the topic of child support and what it should be used for.

As little girls we often have fantasies of that dream wedding, the white picket fence then the pitter patter of several little feet... but what if it doesn't happen that way? In life things tend to happen out of order. As humans, we learn to adapt. We all make mistakes but it's up to us to grow and move forward. As mothers, SINGLE mothers, we give our daughters the tools they need to hopefully do better. We teach them along the way what it takes to bloom into a successful young woman, we pick them up when they fall and we do our bes to lead by example. A father is a girl's first love and unfortunately in today's world they are also the first to break her heart. This week's Sage Mentoring Moments will discuss ways we can raise happy , healthy daughters into THRIVING ladies that aren't constantly searching for the love they lost or never received in a failed relationship with her father. With the assistance of our guest, Shardae Pennick, we'll go over the importance of having support while we are raising our daughters.

Shardae Pennick, founder of The Mother's Den social group, has been working in the social services field for over 4 years. She graduated from Arcadia University obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Sociology. Being a teen mother and during her struggles through college, she realized that sometimes people need a little more support in order to succeed. She also realized that there was a lack of programs for women such as herself. Her vision for the The Mother's Den is a social group and eventually a non-profit. The program will include dormitory style housing for women who are mothers or pregnant, ages 18-24, and working towards independence. The program will provide the members with life skills and provide emotional support as they continue school, pursue their career goals and resolve the "bumps" that may be a hindrance.

We live in a time when the words of the father are not appreciated as they were 15 years ago. The cry of the wounded daughter, which states I do not need a man for anything becomes evident in the lifestyle choices that she makes. Choices that she had to make, because of the absence of her father’s WISDOM; not because she did not want Him there. All though she is grown, there is still a desire whether she wants to admit it or not to hear The Father Speak. Praise God that many men of God have taken up the charge to speak into the lives of God precious daughters. To speak words of affirmation, direction, and love. The goal of The Word 4 H.E.R. Ministry is to facilitate the healing, empowering, and restoring of women of all ages and background through mentorship, biblical training, and covenant sisterhood. Motto: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Psalms 107:20

Chase the Lion: Stepping Confidently Into the Unknown  is a 6-session young adult Bible study that expands the message of Mark Batterson’s best-selling book "In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day." Inspired by a fearless warrior named Benaiah (2 Sam. 23:20) who changed the course of his future by winning a battle with a real lion, this study examines biblical and modern-day examples of people who were willing to put everything on the line, take risks, seize opportunities, face fears, embrace uncertainty, and look foolish when it comes to chasing after God-given opportunities.

Our current Christian culture doesn't usually encourage sensible people to chase after risky opportunities and dreams. We want to believe that if it's a good decision, it will always be and feel safe because that's the way God wants life to be. But what if you discovered that the fulfilling life God wants for you is hiding behind a present problem, a past failure, or a lifelong fear?

Oh, the many options the Black Church! Give your full allegiance to a party that boos God at its convention, promotes unbiblical behavior, and gives props to infanticide.

Or, give your full devotion to the one that demands that you check your heritage and culture at the door, while leaning toward bigotry under the guise of political incorrectness. One party manipulates you, the other party ignores you.

Well then, I'll just ignore politics. See what that strategy got you? Your three main nominees in 2016 are a populist demagogue, a scrupleless con artist, and an unabashed socialist! What's a black Christian to do--both regarding this election and politics period?

The ICE men will discuss it all this Sunday: in The Barbershop!

Ministry Motto--1st Corinthians 9:20-22

"And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without law, as without law (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,), that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some."

ICE Ministries is an Evangelical and historically Christian men's ministry designed to bring edification and evangelism to men in general (and Black men in particular) through proper doctrine, proper teaching, proper commentary, proper criticism, and proper actions.

Beyonce and Kendrick: Civil Rights, Or Silver Rights?

Is It About the Cause, or the Coins?

After being closed a few weeks for reconstruction, Jae Iglesia and Mr. Pearson reopen The Barbershop with a candid discussion about two recent controversial performances: Beyonce at the Super Bowl, and Kendrick Lamar at the Grammy Awards! Some call their charged performances divisive and antiquated, stating that the racial issues they're discussing are no longer relevant. Others are calling them a passionate and conscious breath of fresh air in these troublesome times. Still others say that Puff said it best about these two: It's all about the Benjamins, and that's it! Who's right? Who's wrong? Are they oppressed, obscene, or opportunistic? The ICE men will discuss it this Sunday: in their return to The Barbershop!

The goal of ICE Ministries: to bring the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ--, through ministry and apologetics-- to the men of the inner city in their own language; thus empowering them to take that gospel to their women, their children, and their neighborhood. Motto: I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 1st Corinthians 9:22b The men's prayer and devotional line is open Monday through Friday after the show. Welcome back to the Barbershop this week the Men of ICE continue their conversation "Good riddance to superstition"

The guys at ICE Ministries have continued to stress the need for change in the Black community. The church has always been a source of change for us. But how much can we change when we keep believing the wrong things? Christianity is about faith--not superstition. Yet there are tons of beliefs we have in the Body of Christ that lean more toward fears than they do faith! We're scared of demons in music, scared of demons in movies, and scared of demons in Muslims and Mormons. We play Last Airbender in the pulpit, and have practices closer to mesmerism than ministry. We keep trying to play Pin The Tail on the Anti-Christ or Guess When Jesus Comes Back. No more games! It's time to shake off superstition and embrace the historic Christian faith! We will be attacking and debunking superstitions in the church--this Sunday, in The Barbershop!

When you're raised in the church, you have the luxury--yes, luxury--of being forced to live as believers. Parents go over their children's walk with a fine toothed comb. You give them money for offering, five then to sing in the choir, have them stand up for testimony service. Then, they graduate from high school or turn eighteen. Now the, the temptations of the world beckon, and like moths to flames they go. The School of Hard Knocks--that period between eighteen and somewhere between 24 and 30 years old--is where the rubber of a child's faith hits the road of life. Usually, at the end of the school term, they come limping back home to the church, with spouses and children in tow, never to leave again. The question: how do help prevent them from going in the first place? Raising Godly Children in an Ungodly World: this Sunday, in The Barbershop!!!

Empty pews, alligator shoes, & pulpit blues!

A few years ago, rapper Nas put out a song called "Hip-hop Is Dead." The song decried the commercialism, the materialism, and the complete capitulation of the genre to trends and pop culture. Today, in the wake of the continuing decay of the doctrines and actions of the Body of Christ in general--and in the Black Church in particular--ICE Ministries declares that the church in America is dead. It no longer wields influence or power over the national morality, merely serving instead as a Sunday place to listen to motivational speeches and inspirational music. Is the Church dead, or is alive and kicking? Come discuss it with us on Sunday--in The Barbershop!!!

You're surprised? You shouldn't be. This is the direction this country has been moving in for the longest. You delude yourselves into thinking it wouldn't happen. Nothing's going to change, essentially. I mean, think about it.

The church will continue to cave in on what sin is; people will continue to say it has no affect on society and children; people will continue to say evil things about gay people behind their back; America will continue to become "Several Nations, Rejecting God, Divisible, With Equality and Relativism For All." The nature of man didn't change. He has not evolved. This isn't evolution. It's devolution.

The end is near, you say? Poor thing. You've missed it. This doesn't signify the beginning of the end. You've already BEEN ending. When was our nation upright and moral before God? The 20's? 30's? 40's? Please. In America's most Christian days, it STILL legally subjugated blacks. There has never been a time of true American morality. NEVER.

God is merciful and patient. The Scriptures tell us Methuselah lived 969 years, as God awaited man's repentance. God gave Israel and Judah centuries to repent. We may never live to see the wrath of God on this nation. That doesn't mean there isn't a judgment to come. People mistake the kindness of God for the weakness (or absence) of God. Pity.

Nothing in the verdict today changed my house, my mind, or my actions. So it should be for all of you. Live, regardless of your feelings on the verdict. Live as YOU please. In the end, either you tell God, "Thy will be done," or He tells you, "THY will be done." Our actions have illustrated that THIS is the will of America. So, live according to your beliefs.

There always seems to be a generation gap...Whether it's politics, theology, sports, music, or films--there's always an older cat saying the younger cats are out of step and out of date. Does that speak to the better quality of the older, or does it reflect upon the inability of the older to pass the topics in to the newer? Is the rioting in Baltimore by Millennials the fault of the Generation Xers? Are the heresies, apathy, and disintegration of today's church the fault of yesterday's parents? Is the wackness of today's hip-hop to be lain at the feet of the dope ones that came before them? Which is better, the old stuff or the new stuff? Or does it matter in the ultimate scheme of things? Today we celebrate the Resurrection of the strongest Man that ever lived. That strong Man had strong disciples, men of conviction and faith, who followed Him in spirit and in truth. Two millennia later, the Christian church- at least, in the Black community- is full of women, and the men within lack conviction and strength. What the heck happened? We'll talk about it on Resurrection Sunday- in The Barbershop!
