This podcast is new and seasoned podcasters that want to learn how Live Streaming can grow their audience. Do you have a brand story? Do people know what you stand for? Do they know the problem you solve for them? Your brand, your content, is all about your story. It's about who you are and why you're here. I am joined by Heather Roma. She is a screenwriter, branding strategist, and graphic designer who helps small business pioneers write their stories and create brands that truly connect. In this episode, Heather and I discuss everything branding and the importance of knowing the story of your brand, in the context of podcasting and live streaming. She also shares her story of starting out in her business, how much she loves Star Wars, and how these relate to building her own brand over the years. If you're wondering how to better communicate your brand story, this episode is for you. Highlights from the episode: [00:20] The biggest issue on podcasting and live streaming [2:00] Backstory on how I met Heather Roma [03:52] What is a logline? [7:00] What happens when you broaden your niche? [9:10] How Heather started her business [13:45] Writing your story down and getting it solidified in your mind [16:38] Validating how your audience feels [17:40] The myth about niching down [22:00] Soliciting and taking feedback [23:25] Open up [25:10] Heather and her love for Star Wars [27:50] A confused audience never buys Notable Quotes: If you're just showing a general facade of who you are, there is no connection in that. Your brand is not a logo. Your brand is not a tagline. Your brand is you. You can't address everyone in the world. You have to address your niche. We learn the hard way so that we can help people figure it out. Just because you have a niche does not mean you can not help someone outside of your niche. Feedback is really important in finding your niche. The more time you spend with people or the community, the more they get to know you. Over time, your brand takes on a life of its own. You are your brand. A brand is about connecting with an audience and establishing trust.

Every day we are bombarded with new ways to pour our content into the world, but when it comes to live streaming, podcasters seem more hesitant than ever before. When you break it down to the basics, live streaming is just another way of sharing your content. Live streaming is the secret sauce of podcasting. The ability to share directly with audiences online allows podcasters to engage with their listeners and build relationships with them. But, there are also some myths that need to be busted before you start. There are four myths that might be holding you back, and I bust these in this episode so that you can get started on live streaming, build an audience, a community, and start doing the things that you've always wanted to do. If all you have is an idea or a desire to do something and a list of why it's not possible, it's time to erase that list and start moving forward! Here are the four biggest myths of live streaming you need to know about so that you'll have a better chance at success. HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE EPISODE:
[1:14] Myth #1: Running a live stream is expensive.
[5:13] Myth #2: You need a tech specialist to run a live stream.
[8:09] Myth #3: Live streaming requires professional presentation.
[10:00] They are coming to listen to you, they know you are not perfect.
[10:25] The only time your presentation needs to be amazing.
[12:00] Myth #4: No one will watch my live stream.
[13:06] Consistency needs to be there.
[13:37] Other objections that keep you from live streaming
[15:26] Cut through the noise.
NOTABLE QUOTES:
You need a community that is going to help you understand how to live stream properly. The context of live streaming is- stuff happens. We put too much pressure on ourselves when we go live because it has to be perfect. The more genuine and human you are, the better your live streams will be. Your audience needs to know when they are going to see you and hear you. You have the keys to the kingdom to figure out how you are going to allow the people to hear and know about your podcast. No one will watch your live stream if they do not know about it. Consistency will build your community.

When you get into podcasting, you get to decide how you want to bring that creativity to your Podcast. So, someone else’s format may not be your format. Someone else’s subject matter may not be your subject matter. ● Bring all of your creativity there [in the podcast]—that is your place to play. ● You need a group of people to bounce ideas off of. And people who you trust and give you constructive feedback. ● When you first start, you shouldn’t overthink it. You should just get in there and start doing. But I think after a while you will start to think about ‘what is the sound that I’m trying to create?’ and be prepared that there will be lots of things to learn. ● Don’t think of other podcasters as your competition or your enemy; think of them as your support network. You lift up other podcasters; they’ll lift you up. And use them as a resource to find out ‘how can I do this thing better. Listen to other people’s shows, and work out for yourself what works for you and what doesn’t by listening to their show. ● Every audience is not your audience. ● Building a community is paramount to not feeling isolated, especially when things get difficult. So, seek out a community that you can be a part of. Then build your individual tribe within that community. ● It really doesn’t matter how much you plan if you’re not executing. ● Perfectionism is a form of procrastination. ● It’s not about those numbers; it’s about the people who engage with you and provide that feedback. 7 THINGS I LEARNED FROM PODCASTINGPodcasting is a great way to connect with your audience and get your voice out there. It offers a way to create content that can be shared with others on a daily basis. You can get into the minds of your listeners, share stories, or even just provide entertainment. Podcasts are growing in popularity, and many people are finding success in this format. Today I want to share with you seven things that I've learned from podcasting that will not just help you become a better podcaster but will help you when you think about different aspects of your life-from embracing failure to being okay with incremental growth, this episode is chocked full of value, so start listening in. Highlights From The Episode: [2:35] First one, embrace failure. [9:39] Number three is to forgive yourself quickly. [14:28]Number four, you have to be okay and be content with incremental growth. [18:20] Number five is that people are generous. [22:00] Number six is real people and real stories make the best content. [26:48] Number seven, you have to be consistent with your frequency Notable quotes: ● As you go down the journey of podcasting, there are many unexpected things and a lot of things that you will encounter for the first time because the things are new to you. ● Failure is the first attempt in learning. There is no possible way that everything in your life will be without some measure of failure. ● Podcasters wait too long to bring people into the story. We have to understand that this is an exchange. So, we have to bring people in as quickly as possible. ● When you take a class and read more books around your specific topic, you will add value to your audience. ● People don't care until you give them a reason to care. You can only give them a reason to care is to solve their problem and be consistent with the content and what you are trying to offer them. ● Podcasting and live streaming are long-term games. The more you can settle your mind, the better off you will be. ● Building an audience, a following, and a community requires consistency.
