CPA Huddle is a fun, fast-paced podcast that simplifies accounting and tax trends for everyone. This podcast is a time-efficient resource hub that will increase your money management IQ.
Thanks to the loyal listeners of this podcast! This is the final CPA Huddle episode to feature Eric Pierre and Ignatius Jackson. They are appreciative of the opportunity to share their tax knowledge and passion, and they both look forward to separate ventures to continue to be thought leaders in this space.
The purpose of this episode is to deliver an episode replete with robust, wide-open debate and discussion that supplies the listeners with objective information regarding the Employee Retention Credit’s (“ERC”) permitted fee structures and the subjective opinions of professionals who apply the associated structures to clients seeking the ERC.
Ignatius publicly expressed discontent with CPAs that employ certain fee structures associated with the ERC. In context, his comments run the risk of being associated with Eric Pierre and his practice. As Eric and Ignatius part ways, it is important to provide viewers with a broad base of knowledge on which to begin their ERC journey by exposingthem to the views and opinions of professionals that operate in accordance with the highest ethical standards for the profession, while continuing to educate and inform about ERCs.
It’s time to Huddle Up one last time!

Loyal listeners of this podcast know that Ignatius and Eric are fans of real estate investments as a way to diversify investment portfolios. In this episode the Huddle Guys talk with Dan Kryzanowski who they met at a recent real estate summit in Austin. Dan is an Advisory Partner for BV Capital, a member of the Bridgeview family of companies. Bridgeview is a private real estate development and investment company. BV Capital is Bridgeview's private equity company offering direct access to investments historically only available to institutions. BV Capital primarily works with sponsors on real estate in Texas and surrounding markets and offers investments in single property assets as well as diversified portfolios and funds. Dan is also a Mentor with the Capital Factory which hosts over 100,000 entrepreneurs, programmers and designers gathered day and night, in-person and online for meetups, classes and coworking.
Put simply, real estate syndication is a partnership between several investors for a real estate project. The investors combine their capital and resources to purchase a property that would be difficult (or impossible) to do as individuals. The information shared in this discussion is a natural build to previous Huddle episodes on this topic. If you are not already in the real estate game, let the Huddle Guys help you. For so many people, the year end holidays arrive earlier each year. Early Black Friday Shopping starts in July, and some stores display holiday decorations in September. While this timing may seem way too early for some, we should really apply this model to tax year end planning. If you are listening to this episode and you have not started your tax planning, you are late…but not the worry…the Huddle Guys can help get you focused. In this episode the Huddle Guys discuss some year-end tax planning strategies for all income levels. You have to plan ahead to maximize tax savings. Listen as they give advice about Continue Education (CE) credits, year-end business meetings, retirement contributions and Health Spending Accounts (HSAs), and how these items can factor into your year-end financial close out. Have you heard of a Backdoor Roth IRA? If not, stay tuned. The Huddle Guys caution us again about relying on social media for tax advice. If you are ready to get serious about your tax planning…step away from TikTok, and listen to the Huddle Guys. If you need a CPA, connect with them at Contact Us | CPA Huddle. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode the Huddle Guys discuss the topic of business credit with Darryl Johnson, CEO and Founder of Business Credit Works which helps businesses build credit without personal guarantees or credit checks. A strong focus for Darryl is his commitment to give financial institutions more positive data to assess credit worthiness.
Business credit is just as important as consumer credit. In short, Business credit is for your EIN and it is not linked to your SSN regardless of your personal credit, collateral, or cash flow. Every year, companies go out of business because they can't get money and credit to operate. Without business credit, businesses can struggle to grow and scale.
The Huddle Guys talk about how to get business credit, and use it wisely. They remind us that this is not a get-rich-quick scheme! And no Huddle is complete without some fun banter. The Guys talk MLB and their guest’s celebrity look alike.
The Huddle Guys want to hear from you about business credit, or another financial topic that is important to you. In this episode the Huddle Guys discuss the Real Estate 2022 Summit that they recently attended hosted by Mat Sorensen and Mark Kohler. (Both Mat and Mark were previous guests on this podcast.) At this Summit, Huddle Guy Ignatius Jackson spoke on a panel on the topic of tax savings related to real estate. Go Ignatius! To learn more about the summit, visit Realestatetaxsummit.com.
The Huddle Guys remind us that real estate investments can be coupled with tax strategies that help us save money and build wealth for us and our families. The tax advantages can couple real time cash flow and high rate of returns. That is a win-win!
For many, investing in real estate is an alternative to the stock market, but some may be reluctant because of the amount of money involved. If this is the case for you, consider partnering with someone (or a group) that you trust. Also, the use of qualified accounts to invest in real estate is still highly underutilized.
The Huddle Guys also respond to voice mails from a listener. And no Huddle is complete without sports talk. The Guys talk NBA and MLB, with Eric even giving his pick to win the world series.

CPA Huddle is the fun, fast-paced podcast that simplifies accounting and tax trends for everyone. This podcast is a time efficient resource hub that will increase your money management IQ.
In this episode the Huddle Guys welcome Alessandra Wall, Ph.D. who founded Noteworthy to support women in STEM and finance by helping them articulate, plan, and build careers that are wildly successful. To say that Dr. Wall is a champion of women is an understatement; she is an executive coach and leadership consultant committed to helping women advance their careers. She believes, “the world will be a better place when the right people get hired, not just one segment of the right people.”
Listen as the Huddle Guys and Dr. Wall discuss the challenges that women face when navigating their careers. Why is ‘ambition’ considered by some to be a bad word for career women? Why do women think they have to sacrifice in other areas of the lives to have career success? How can men ‘show up’ as allies and sponsors of women in the workplace?
Of course the Huddle Guys want to hear from you on this topic. Connect with them via social media or drop them a line on the show’s website contact page: Contact Us | CPA Huddle and share the successes and challenges of your career journey. It’s time to Huddle Up!
Eric kicks us off with some college football talk, but the real focus of this conversation is on student loans for college. According to recent data, student loan debt in the US amounts to over $1.75 trillion dollars. It is likely that you have had a student loan or you have known someone (your child, niece/nephew, neighbor, colleague) who has.
It should come as no surprise that the topic of student loan debt forgiveness has become a lightning rod in political, business, and family circles. And this episode of CPA Huddle is no exception…the Huddle Guys bring the heat and the passion!
Listen as the Huddle Guys discuss the many aspects of student loan forgiveness…the politics, the legalities, and the fairness. Of course the Huddle Guys want to hear from you on this topic. Connect with them via social media or drop them a line on the show’s website contact page: Contact Us | CPA Huddle.
This episode is going to get you talking. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys talk with Ryan Bakke CPA , Owner of MLS Consulting, PLLC, and a financial coach known as, ‘LearnLikeACPA.’ Ryan graduated from Trinity Chirstian College with degrees in accounting and finance. At the time he became a CPA, Ryan was the youngest licensed CPA in Illinois. Ryan began his career with one of the Big 4 accounting firms. He quickly decided that he wanted to focus his work with clients who wanted to build their wealth, and “change their family tree.” Listen as the Huddle Guys and Ryan discuss considerations for the decision to become involved in real estate investing, coupled with the tax benefits available for those who make the decision. Their conversation reminds us that tax planning is a key factor in separating the rich from the poor. And Ryan simplifies that concept of tax planning by emphasizing that it is primarily an exercise in deferring the recognition of income and accelerating the recognition of expenses. Ryan also believes that real estate investing is NOT a ‘get rich quick scheme;’ it is a get rich scheme. If you are trying to change YOUR family tree by making smart money moves, it’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys talk with Mat Sorensen, CEO of Directed IRA, and a Partner at Kyler Kohler Ostermiller & Sorensen, LLP. Mat has been at the forefront of the self-directed IRA industry since 2006. He writes regularly on retirement, tax, and business topics and is a VIP Contributor at Entrepreneur.com. He is also a contributor for Cryptopedia. Mat is the best-selling author of The Self-Directed IRA Handbook: An Authoritative Guide for Self-Directed Retirement Plan Investors and Their Advisors, a go-to guide for investors, planners, and Mark’s competitors.
Listen as the Huddle Guys and Mat discuss self-directed IRAs, a type of IRA that can hold investments not allowed by regular IRAs, like real estate and cryptocurrency. They can be in the form of traditional or Roth IRAs, and the investments are managed by the account holder. These IRAs can help you save on taxes and plan effectively for retirement, but they are not talked about enough. Many financial planners do not discuss self-directed IRAs with their clients. Thank goodness for the Huddle Guys! It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys talk with Mark J. Kohler , a CPA, attorney, author, and podcast host. Mark is a Senior Partner at Kyler, Kohler, Ostermiller & Sorenson, LLP. He is also Fonder & CFO of Directed IRA, and a Senior Partner for Kohler & Eyre CPAs, LLP. Whew…when does Mark sleep?!?
Listen as the Huddle Guys and Mark discuss ways to save on healthcare costs via Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs). In many regards, these are resources are underutilized tools; opportunities to save money are missed. They share information that is helpful to both tax preparer and tax payers. They also revisit topics related to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which they believe will not save the average tax payer any money, especially if you are deemed to make too much money. (Checkout Episode 55 for more information about the IRA.)
As usual, the Huddle Guys also have lots of fun with their guest, who also believes in the ‘mythical’ Big Foot. Another first for this podcast! It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys discuss the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which became effective August 16, 2022. At a very high level, the law aims at curbing inflation and promoting clean energy solutions. Listen as the Huddle Guys share why this law is viewed by many as being controversial. Will it accomplish what is intended? Will there be any immediate benefits or is IRA more of a climate bill than anything else? The Huddle Guys review the provisions of this bill, for which the ‘average’ tax payer may not see many benefits, unless they are in the market for green energy purchases.
The guys also remind us not to take social media so seriously. While they often challenge inaccurate and contrary opinions that are expressed on tax issues via social media; it is good-natured with the intention to inform, educate, and set the record straight. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys talk with Blake Oliver, CPA, creator of Earmark CPE which creates opportunities to earn CPE credits by listening to podcasts. Blake is a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in music. After college, Blake became a bookkeeper, which sparked his interest in accounting. When he decided to pivot and become a CPA, Blake learned first-hand the difficulties that many face to attain the 150 college credits needed to become a CPA, which includes having to take non-accounting related classes. Listen as Blake challenges the 150 hours norm, and shares how his start up provides another avenue for licensed CPAs to earn CPE credits.

In this episode, the Huddle Guys continue their Women in Accounting series by featuring Nikki Winston, Accounting Coach, Writer, Podcaster, and Blogger. Nikki is an alum of The Ohio State University, and during recent visit to the campus she reflected on the Accounting 101 professor (and the actual lecture hall) that piqued her interest in the profession. In addition to liking the subject matter, Nikki saw the accounting field as one that was practical, offered stability, and afforded professionals an opportunity to charge a premium for their expertise.
While Nikki Winston is an advocate for more African American women becoming CPAs, she also recognizes that some expert accountants opt for different paths. She is also passionate about financial literacy education, helping others to adopt an investor mindset and learn how to make their money work for them, instead of always working for their money.
Calling all college students and career boomerangs! If you are unsure of what to major in or career to pursue, consider opportunities in accounting. Catch up on episodes of this podcast as a resource. You can also follow Nikki across the various social platforms. It’s time to Huddle Up!
Taxes don’t take a summer break. This is a great time of the year to do some tax planning. In this episode, the Huddle Guys review tax savings strategies that you can consider midway through the year.
Listen as they discuss Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), insurance products, and S Corp business structure considerations.
The Huddle Guys also remind us not to rely on social media for tax advice. Some with very active platforms are not qualified professionals. They give advice, but they may not even be tax preparers. If the tax deduction sounds too good to be true, it may be.
Now is a good time to do a check in with your tax professional. If you don’t think you are receiving the best advice, consult with another professional. You can always explore the services offered by Ignatius L. Jackson, CPA and Eric Pierre, CPA. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys continue their Women in Accounting series by featuring Kelly Phillips Erb, a writer for Bloomberg Tax & Accounting. Kelly received her BA in History from Meredith College and her JD/LLM in Taxation from Temple University. Previously, Kelly was a Senior Contributor & Tax Writer for Bloomberg. She is also a tax attorney, business owner, and podcaster, under the name Taxgirl. Kelly is all things tax!
Listen as Kelly describes how she navigated her career, and how one professor was key to the path that she chose to travel. We hope that this episode will inspire students of all ages to embrace opportunities to become subject matter experts in areas that are unconventional.
Calling all college students! If you are unsure of what to major in or career to pursue, consider opportunities in accounting. Catch up on episodes of this podcast as a resource. You can also follow Kelly, aka Taxgirl, across the various social platforms. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys launch their Women in Accounting series. Beginning in the 1990’s, the big accounting firms were laser focused on their diversity & inclusion efforts. Today, approximately 61% of accountants are women and 24% of partners in accounting firms are women.
So, while the accounting industry has made great strides in its gender composition at certain levels, it cannot take its foot off the gas. The Huddle Guys want more college students to learn the benefits of a career in accounting, and to understand that the career paths in the accounting field are varied.
The Huddle Guys welcome Lorilyn Wilson, CPA. Listen as Lorilyn shares her unconventional path to the accounting profession. She is a University of Michigan graduate, who was recruited on a softball scholarship and graduated with a degree in Political Science initially. She then found her passion for accounting. Lorilyn also discusses how she maneuvered early on to work for an accounting firm that provided the work-life balance that was important to her family.
Calling all college students! If you are unsure of what to major in or career to pursue, consider opportunities in accounting. Catch up on episodes of this podcast as a resource. You can also follow Lorilyn across the various social platforms. As Eric and Ignatius continue to show us, the accounting profession is much more dynamic and exciting than many of us know. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys shed some light on current IRS wait times. Have you experienced a 5 ½ hour hold time to speak with an IRS representative? Did you know some tax preparers have an account that provides them with quicker access to an IRS agent when they call? Are you waiting months or years for a refund? Are you awaiting a response to an amended return? Are you aware that it has been reported that some 30 million information returns were destroyed? If so, you are not alone!
It is unclear why the IRS response time is at historically ‘slow’ levels. Is it a biproduct of pandemic recovery? Or is the agency just broken? Listen as the Huddle Guys try to make ‘heads or tails’ of what is going on with the IRS, and the possible impact to you…. even comparing the IRS to the LA Clippers, if that analogy helps our NBA fans to make more sense of what is going on.
The Huddle Guys’ keep us apprised of the great things going on with their firms! They cover a lot of helpful reminders and information in this episode. If you need to call the IRS, you can listen to this and a few other episodes of this podcast while you wait. It’s time to Huddle Up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys talk about the Employee Retention Credit (ERC). The CARES Act provides a refundable tax credit against the employer portion of the Social Security tax equal to a percentage of wages paid, if eligibility requirements are met.
ERC has become a hot topic that may draw scrutiny from the IRS for business owners. Beware of scams popping up related to ERC, in the form of internet and radio ads, and robocalls. (The Huddle Guys play an actual robocall during this episode.)
Listen as the Huddle Guys discuss ways to qualify for the ERC. While you must show economic impact caused by the pandemic and possibly related supply chain issues, that may not be enough to qualify. You must be able to prove a direct tie to a government order.
Let the Huddle Guys be your information source; don’t be a victim of an ERC scam.
And no CPA Huddle episode is complete without some fun with the guys. They are in full NBA Finals mode, and Eric gives us a glimpse of his pseudo previous modeling career! It’s time to Huddle Up!
The Huddle Guys are back, and they are taking their show on the road! They are rested and re-energized after this year’s tough, unprecedented tax season. This episode is the recording from a recent AWEB presentation that Eric and Ignatius gave to a live audience. They cover a myriad of relevant topics including life insurance, real estate professional status, short term rental exceptions, health savings accounts (HSAs) and self-directed 401k’s. For loyal Huddle listeners, the information shared is a great review of topics covered in previous episodes; if you are new to this podcast, it is a great warm up for the knowledge that you can expect to gain by listening regularly. Listen as The Huddle Guys share updates on the reporting requirements for 1099-K
forms. The information shared in this episode is not just for business owners. If you
use apps (payment processors) to exchange money, you need to tune in. In short, if
you use apps to transfer money above a certain threshold, you may receive a 1099-
K form even if the transactions are for personal reasons. This may cause some to
have to spend additional time and money this tax season proving that these
transactions are not related to a business.
In the apps, be sure to denote whether a payment is for business or personal/family.
Otherwise, you may increase your chances of having your activity in the payment
apps identified as business transactions, that you will have to then refute. In short,
non-business owners may have to prove that they do not own a business.

The landscape for the current tax season is one that can be frustrating and cause many tax filers to become impatient. Listen as the Huddle Guys explain why tax return filings this year may be delayed due to the late release of tax forms and software updates from the IRS. This is true for both individual and business returns. If your tax preparer says there will be a delay in submitting your return, believe him/her.
Additionally business owners, your preparer may also ask questions this year that he/she may not normally ask. You can thank the IRS for that as they are requesting information needed for new forms that have been created.
The Huddle episode is not for the faint of heart, but it will help you get your ‘mind right’ for this year’s tax seasons. Preparation is important, but having a competent CPA is critical. Check out the firms of the Huddle Guys and see how their expertise can help you and your business.

Happy New Year from the Huddle Guys! Eric and Ignatius are excited for 2022, and they are having lots of fun in their first episode of the year! Eric starts by offering his critique of Ignatius’ fashion choices for this recording session, he gives a few hints as to some of his possible new year’s resolutions, and he discusses some tax-related current events (no updates in the capital gains tax and no sweeping changes for IRAs and 401ks). The Huddle Guys are gearing up for an eventful year, as they reveal plans to speak at a conference in May 2022. Stay tuned for more details.
The Huddle Guys are no strangers to real estate investments and their tax implications. Listen as they discuss who meets the IRS criteria for qualifying as a real estate professional. Listen as the Huddle Guys provide updates on two bills that can have tax implications to many Americans. First, is the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, commonly referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden on November 15, 2021. Second is the Build Back Better Bill which has not yet been passed into law.
The Huddle Guys break down the highs and lows of both of these bills, and what they can mean for your bottom line. Bitcoin is here to stay! Crypto currency is not a passing fad but there is still a lot of unchartered territory on this topic. While many people are investing in this space, many more are still hesitant to enter this market. Billionaires and millionaires have been made by cryptocurrency. Could you be next?
CPA Huddle #6 and #32 are great pre-listens for this episode as the Huddle Guys are joined by Joanna Garzilli, Business Development Officer for the Crypto Division of Directed IRA & Directed Trust Company. They have a comprehensive discussion about all things cryptocurrency, including how self-directed retirement accounts present investment opportunities that take the ‘wildness’ out of the equation and focus the investor on long-term strategies.
Currently, many of the rules that apply to typical stock trades don’t apply to crypto trades. New regulation may be forthcoming, but now may be a good time to get into the crypto game!
You will also learn some new crypto-related lingo, and the trends to watch out for. The timing of this episode is perfect as many are doing their year-end financial planning and looking for different investments to consider in 2022. For many of us, we have a special relationship with the car that we drive. Whether you have an SUV, hybrid, convertible, or station wagon (yes, the still make station wagons!), did you know your ride can equate to tax savings?!?
In this episode, the Huddle Guys were together in Arizona and they discuss how business owners can qualify for tax deductions related to their cars. They breakdown who and what cars qualify and the two accounting methods to capture the most benefit. They also review depreciation considerations, the purpose of the Schedule A, and how mileage factors into this process. (If you don’t keep a mileage log, you will probably start after hearing this episode.)

It’s time to Huddle Up!
After some World Series and NBA banter, the Huddle Guys take on serious topics.
As the old saying goes, there are two things in life that are inevitable, death and
taxes. This episode deals with both. Everyone needs to plan for what happens to
their heirs upon their death. There are two types of planning, estate planning and
tax planning. The issues to be considered are different for every person, family,
and business owner. If you don’t consider yourself to be wealthy and you think that
this information is not for you, think again.
The Huddle Guys are joined by Gregory Wilder, a tax attorney and CPA. Gregory
has been practicing for 38+ years, much of that time with international public
accounting firms. He is an expert at helping his wealthy clients and successful
business owners with estate and gift tax, income tax, and generation skipping tax
planning.
The Huddle Guys and Gregory share practical advice that anyone can apply. And
please know this is not a short process or a one-and-done. This type of planning
takes time, needs to be adjusted as lifestyles change, and must be done correctly.
Please don’t leave confusion and ambiguity for your relatives upon your passing. As
always, you can contact the Huddle Guys for additional support and services.

Loyal listeners to the podcast know that the Huddle Guys are all about wealth
building and saving money. This episode is no exception. The Huddle Guys
recorded together in Phoenix, AZ, as they recently attended the Directed IRA
Summit.
Listen as they share their insights, wisdom, and advice on how to take control of
your retirement savings by building wealth. Unfortunately, many financial advisors
do not discuss self-directed retirements because they are...self-directed. The
Huddle Guys explain the various beneficial uses for these investment vehicles, and
they call out some money-saving moves that you can take advantage of before year
end.
If you missed Episode 32, give that one a listen also, as these two discussions link
together. There is some ‘alphabet soup’ associated with the terms used in this
episode (IRA, HAS, HRA). As always, you can contact the Huddle Guys for
additional support and services.

In this episode, the Huddle Guys kick us off with sports shout outs that span the MLB, NBA, and NFL. They then welcome Rob Santos. Rob is currently the CEO of Arrowroot Family Office and Arrowroot Partners, after spending many years with Wall Street investment firms. Rob is an expert in a variety of investment tools, including Self-Directed Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). By definition, Self-Directed IRAs are a type of Individual Retirement Account that can hold a variety of alternative investments not allowed by regular IRAs, like real estate, limited partnerships, revenue and royalty streams.
Listen as the Huddle Guys and Rob discuss the benefits of Self-Directed IRAs and some things to watch out for as these investment tools come under greater scrutiny. This is a topic that you will want to have professional help and guidance to navigate. You can always contact the Huddle Guys for additional support and services.

Have you heard of ‘Christmas in July’? Well, if you enjoy ‘celebrating’ the year-end holidays during the summer months by cashing in on retail sales events and binging on holiday movies while outside temperatures are soaring, then year-end tax planning in July may be right up your alley.
Listen as the Huddle Guys discuss the ambiguities related to this tax filing season, as bills related to the tax code are still making their way through Congress. Will tax rates be raised? Will the capital gains tax increase? (Checkout Eric’s wager on this topic!) What will be the tax impact on cryptocurrency? Are Qualified Opportunity Zones still available (a #throwback reference to Episode #3)?
There are clearly more questions than answers; don’t wait until the tax filing season to get answers. The Huddle Guys help you to consider what steps you can take to lower your year-end tax bill.

To our loyal Huddle listeners, you will hear that Ignatius is returning from the AICPA ENGAGE 2021 Conference that was recently held in Las Vegas. He, however, is excited to join Eric as they talk with John Murray, CFP, (Certified Financial Planner). John has a career in the financial services industry that spans about 40 years. He specializes in life insurance product offerings, with specific focus on how they can be leveraged to support charitable causes. John espouses, “Leveraging Your Legacy While Building Charities.”
The Huddle Guys recognize that life insurance is not always a popular topic, or one that is easy for many to discuss. John, however, brings practical wisdom to the subject for those who are seeking to learn more about how life insurance benefits families and business owners, and what types of products and coverages are best suited for your end goals. John provides advice for professional athletes who are considering their options in this space. On a fun note, John is also a golf enthusiast who played for the University of Texas. His best tournament score was a 65. Maybe the next time the Huddle Guys meet with John, they can do so on the golf course. It’s time to huddle up!
Loyal listeners to CPA Huddle know that The Huddle Guys are passionate about taxes. They love what their work and servicing their clients. In this episode, Eric and Ignatius are fired up about a recent article highlighting the tax rate disparities that continue to favor the super-duper wealthy. The article cites that the tax rate for Steve Ballmer (owner of the Los Angeles Clippers NBA Team) is approximately 1/3 of the rate of LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers superstar player who makes significantly by comparison), and is even less than someone who makes approximately $45,000. How is this possible? The answer is not simple, and one that you can ponder for years. Your focus should be on working with a CPA who provides the best advice based on your financial reality, guiding you to take advantage of all deductions and credits that apply to you and your business. The Huddle Guys also remind us about the long game...the importance of saving for retirement, starting now! This episode will have you asking, how are you building and protecting your wealth?

Lorenzo and The Huddle Guys share practical advice on investments to consider, and pitfalls to avoid.

The Huddle Guys are coming up for air after an intense tax season. So, it makes sense that this episode connects to the topic of vacations. As the Huddle Guys state, “Business owners don’t take vacations, they take business trips.” Listen as the Huddle Guys provide tips on how you can write off your business-related travel expenses for tax purposes...a very popular topic with their clients.
On a high level, travel expenses typically fall into the categories of transportation, lodging, and meals. As with all tax-related issues, documentation is key. The Huddle Guys share advice on how to properly document your expenses as they are incurred, instead of relying on your memory during tax filing season. They cover everything from conferences to cruises.
If you are gearing up for the summer travel season and traveling for business, you should tune into this episode. And if you have questions regarding business travel, it’s best to ask your CPA before the trip occurs.

If the Huddle Guys sound tired in this episode, it is because they are! This recording was made 4 days before the tax filing deadline, but that would not stop them from sharing advice about entity structures. The Huddle Guys give a high-level overview of the most common business entities and their tax implications. This includes sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, and corporations.
At the beginning, in Eric’s self-described ‘story time segment,’ we are provided with the important reminder to review our tax returns. It is our responsibility, not our CPA’s. Our review (or lack thereof) can have serious implications. And remember, your CPA is not a mind reader!
Check out Eric’s website www.pierreaccounting.com for some helpful information about paying your taxes online. And Ignatius’ YouTube as resources too.
It’s time to huddle up!
In this episode, the Huddle Guys talk about paying your kids…yes, you heard that correctly…putting your kids on the payroll. This topic is explored from the vantage point of business owners who want to explore ways for providing income to your children, with tax benefits to boot.
The Huddle Guys discuss strategies that allow for you to do this the correct way; this is less about providing a paycheck for your children, but ties more to concepts surrounding generational wealth, and transferring in a way that has tax benefits to all involved.
This is not a topic just for the super wealthy. This is a matter of applying proven wealth strategies regardless of your economic status. Small business owners listen up! The advice shared in this episode may have positive, lasting impact on your children and your business. Talk about a win-win!
Children of business owners, this is definitely an episode to share with your parents. It’s time to huddle up!
