As an engineer with a motorsport team, the NASCAR worldbrought with it a lot of fast-paced excitement for Taylor Moyer. The requirement for out-of-the-box creativity, coupled with the thrill of the race, provided an adrenaline rush like no other. Providing us with in-depth insights into the world of professional motorsports, Taylor journeyed through his 15-year experience with NASCAR.
From making a racecar faster, managing mechanical grip, andhandling tons of pressure, to ensuring the team's performance, Taylor's role as a crew chief at NASCAR was filled with challenges and exciting outcomes. This role introduced him to the immense logistics, engineering intricacies, and the constant changes in rules and strategies associated with professional motor racing.
It was the craving for wide open spaces and simplicity thatled Taylor to leave the pulsating world of motor racing. As he mentioned during his transition, he knew he needed to switch gears and move back to his love for farms, land, and cattle.
He bought an old run-down property in North Carolina, whichhe turned into a full-blown ranch, harnessing elements from his experience with NASCAR. For this week's episode I am on the road at the excellent Regenerate conference put on by the Quivera Coalition in Santa Fe NM.
After three days of Conference, networking, meeting new friends and having some really open conversations my friend and previous guest Cole Bush (episode #28) sat down with me and her two right hand men to talk about how Cole has developed her business over the last two years since we last caught up.
Cole Bush, or Cole, a modern-day shepherdess and a visionary in regenerative agriculture. Raised in Southern California, Cole has circled back to steward 240 acres in the Ojai Valley, where she champions ecological land management through her work in education, advocacy, and innovative agrarian entrepreneurship. She's the co-founder of Shepherdess Holistic Hides, promoting ethically raised local goods, and leads the Grazing School of the West, preparing the next generation of graziers for impactful land stewardship.Dylan, the pioneering CEO of Boek House Hearth & Husbandry. A Southern California native, Dylan is a first-generation shepherd and rancher dedicated to reviving our connection with the land through regenerative agriculture. With a background in permaculture and holistic management, he's transforming landscapes and local food systems by integrating livestock into the ecology of the land, enriching it and the community with nutrient-rich, ethically raised produce. Dylan's work extends to leading roles in Shepherdess Land and Livestock and the Savory Institute's Land to Market program, embodying his commitment to sustainable land stewardship and cultural virtues.

Don Schiefelbein, his father, seven brothers and three nephews own and operate Schiefelbein Farms, a large diversified farming operation in Kimball, Minnesota.
Before returning to the family farm, Schiefelbein served as the executive director of the American Gelbvieh Association. He previously worked for the North American Limousin Association after graduating from Texas A&M University.
Schiefelbein has a long history of industry service, most recently in the role as chairman of the Beef Industry Long Range Planning Committee. He has also held several positions on committees and the board of directors of the American Angus Association. In addition, Schiefelbein is a past president of the Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association.
Schiefelbein and his wife of 32 years, Jennifer, have three daughters, Shelby, Abbey, and Bailee, all of whom are active in the industry.
Don was recently elected as the head of the National Cattleman's Beef Association and he was kind enough to join me on zoom to talk about where he came from and his family's operation.
