๐ Helping Brands and Creators navigate the Creator Economy ๐ Interviewing experts on how their industry is being impacted by the Creator Economy
Simon Lancaster is a world-renowned Speechwriter based in the UK, who I had the pleasure of interviewing outside Westminster in London, one day after Boris Johnson's resignation. His experience and talents in the field of speechwriting are vast and is a sponge full of useful advice to improve one's ability in speech writing and public speaking. Simon Lancaster uses TikTok to share his knowledge and give back to those who can't afford to attend Eton... aka basically everyone. The Robin Hood of Rhetoric, with TikTok as his stallion.
With the rise of TikTok, traditional routes of building popularity and fame have completely changed; monopolies of the past are crumbling; and a new wave of Creator Celebrities are bursting through. My favourite of these being Dean Lewis, who has mastered TikTok to build a multi-million person community around his music. This is the future of fame, and Dean Lewis is paving the way.
What does starting a business mean in the age of social media? How can you leverage the Creator Economy to build a community around your project, business or idea? Entrepreneurship looks very different for GenZ then it does the previous generations... Justin van Zon & I discuss these questions in a beautiful Amsterdam park...
Project Iceman, a Documentary by Yes Theory / Seek Discomfort Films & crew follow the journey of Anders Hofman as he attempts to become the first person to complete an Ironman in Antarctica. This film was directed by YouTubers with ZERO traditional film experience, yet are competing in quality with Academy Award-winning films. The future of media is here...
While observing the Creator Economy, I have noticed many "social media gurus" offer advice that seems redundant. Content Creators on YouTube, TikTok and more will produce video content that opposes these tips and still see significant growth on their social media platforms. Are social media gurus a fraud? Do algorithms change too quickly? Or are humans too complex to truly understand and hence offer corresponding social media growth tips?
Creative Juice Co-Founder & CEO Sima Gandhi sits down to talk about the Creator Economy and what her company aims to achieve within the Creator space. Creative Juice aims to be the centre piece for providing Creators the financing and financial tools needed to turn their channel into a full-fledged business. With backers, the likes of MrBeast, Justin Kan, Shelby Church and Graham Stephen - the future is looking bright for Creative Juice.
The Creator Economy is a constantly changing and rapidly expanding industry that traditional education can't keep up with. Considering it is the future of media, it is important to understand what it is, how it works and what its future looks like. Hopefully Joshua Cappello and I can shed some light on your questions regarding the Creator Economy - and if we missed anything, feel free to hit us up
Putting yourself out there is so important for networking, building experience, and more. By doing so, you'll meet people as passionate as you are in your field, and learn and develop personally and professionally far more than you would have otherwise. This doesn't have to be posting content on social media, but can also be just talking to everyone you come across about your interests. From personal experience, this has wielded some of my greatest personal and career progressions over the past few years, so I highly recommend it.
Year 12 / Grade 12 is a tough year for many people for many different reasons. It's a time in your school life where you feel most stressed, have constantly changing friend dynamics and are questioning your future. So I hope that with this audio I can help you reframe your priorities and assist in making your final year of High-School as enjoyable as possible.
Don't wait for the New-Years to make a resolution... do it now... If you won't do it now, you won't do it next year...
Don't get me wrong, if your server and chef has been fantastic, feel free to leave a tip - but by no means make it a norm. There are plenty of other minimum wage jobs where you could be fired for taking a tip, let alone in a position with customers to take one in the first place. If the business can't pay a liveable wage, it shouldn't be allowed to operate in the first place, simple as that. (yes, there are obviously exceptions, especially in developing countries - but this is for developed nations who are intentionally crippling their workforce). The digital age has left in the dust many laws surrounding copyright and privacy, which puts many photographers, videographers and content creators at risk. While there 100% still needs to be protections for the public, the current laws need to account for the changing landscape of media and that not every commercial project is a massive TV production that cuts off roadways for hours, days or weeks on end and hence don't require the same permissions.
My biggest tip to landing work as a freelancer is to be easy to work with, whether that's being enjoyable to be around, or delivering the product or service on time and exceeding expectations, anything that might disincentive them risking replacing you with someone worse.
We look back to our ancestors and think their living conditions and lifestyles were unbearably hard work and did unimaginable things in some cases, so how will future generations look upon us?
When you break it down, you realise the money you thought was a lot when you were a kid is actually pennies in the scale of things.
From my experience, I have never been happier. University has by far been a more enjoyable experience with the ability to try so many more things, meet so many different people and pursue passions and hobbies I didn't have the time for before. This doesn't even include the fact that going to university/college allows you to sleep in and actually get the rest you need. What has been your experience?
Average View Duration isn't the golden metric YouTubers are lead to believe. Don't get me wrong, it's important to have because it indicates your content is good, but it definitely doesn't guarantee anything... sadly.
Thank you Mark Parton for duetting my previous video - it is so important we have these open discussions because it is the only way we can move forward and improve the world in which we live.
Politics shouldn't be a war of two sides, rather a collaborative effort to improve society from a number of viewpoints. The bi-partisan path politics has been trending towards over the past one-hundred years has lead to significant division and inability to provide solutions to our impending problems. We need people to work together, not dismiss someone because they're 'not on your team'.
It is good both to learn how to be outgoing, but also appreciate time to yourself to reflect. Purely going in one direction may inhibit your potential to grow, but combining the two is an unstoppable force.
Being able to effectively present yourself and verbally articulate your thoughts is essential in operating in society. So why is it so overlooked in our education system? Stitch with: https://www.tiktok.com/@bonusfootage?
There are so many hidden costs with being a photographer that a client may not see on the surface, nor the photographer themselves. This often leads to photographers undercharging and clients having a tainted view as to the legitimate cost of the service. In my professional career so far, I still haven't broken even, nor do I think I will for quite a few months to come. Stitch with: https://www.tiktok.com/@_willdelaney?
Investing in Creators has begun - the Future of the Creator Economy sees investment from those who have achieved success to Creators on their way by providing funds, knowledge and connections to accelerate growth and propel the next generation of Creators.
How do you ensure that the products you buy are ethical? It's impossible to do adequate research on every purchase you make... so how can we be sure that what we buy was made ethically?
Sometimes the rules need breaking, either because they're out of date or pose an opportunity for you to grow. But, where does this line lie? When is breaking the rules worth it? and when does it go too far?
Arts jobs receive a lot of flack for being 'insecure' and 'not real jobs'. But is this true? Or is working in the arts industry just as safe and legitimate as working in traditional occupations?
The Creator Economy has seen a massive transformation over the last 5 years allowing nearly anyone to build a career online as a creator (YouTuber, TikToker, Instagramer, etc). You no longer need the same audiences you once did, nor the outlandish content to capture the attention of millions. As long as you produce content with an obvious and genuine value proposition the audience will come.
Do you prefer when YouTubers shout to camera like a presenter, or when they speak calmly as if they are speaking to someone right in front of them...?
My thoughts on MrBeast's new charity, Beast Philanthropy. How can you build a successful YouTube empire, while simultaneously helping the world...? Jimmy Donaldson (MrBeast) has this all figured out, and is on a journey to save the world.
We need to focus on the bigger picture - What are the largest contributors to pollution and climate change?, and not waste time and energy forcing people to use just another future landfill item. 'Saving the turtles' is about a lot more than just plastic straws, and if we ever want to tackle these issues, we need to think about them as such.
Here's how American & British YouTubers could save 10's of 1,000's of $ if they just switched to the Australian Dollar. Think about how many more MrBeast videos could be created by switching to a lower valued currency. I'm not talking about somewhere with hyper inflation, just a neighbouring nation with comparable demographics ;)
Have finance channels met their match? When does being frugal go too far? When should you save? and when should you splurge?
My thoughts on Disney+'s new The D'Amelio Show - revealing the dark reality behind being an A-List child celebrity in the age of social media.
Not as easy as it looks, ensuring everything you purchase and encourage the supply of was made ethically. In our busy lives we cannot be expected to be the mediators of this standard, so what is the solution?
Nowadays, only looking at your niche inhibits your ability to see competition in the market. No longer are record labels up against record labels - instead, platforms like TikTok and Spotify have begun taking over and providing many of the benefits of these labels without ripping off their artists. So what does the future of the music industry look like with Spotify as the centre?
Someone recently bought Roman Atwood's Ring on eBay for $120,000.00... this is why it matters
YouTube has changed a lot since its beginnings, and nowadays to run a channel is to run a business
Is learning to code necessary? Or was it just something we were pestered about as kids?
More YouTubers have started running for public office, such as Max Fosh and Niko Omilana running for the recent London mayoral election, and finance YouTuber and real estate agent Meet Kevin announcing his run for 2021 California Governor. Why the recent surge? All discussed in this podcast.
Gary Vaynerchuk, media mogul and social media guru just released his first set of NFTs. This matters because he is testing how far this new medium can go. Every purchaser of his NFTs will gain three year's access to VeeCon and much more... more details in this podcast
