Our guest is Patricia Zamorano and I just want to say that I had sooo much fun during this interview. I found her to be a courageous woman and I was awed by her life story that demonstrated a woman that continued to rise from adversity from growing up in boyle heights, working in construction as a woman and then becoming a lesbian playwright in her 40s. I love stories that deviate from a tragic lesbian narrative and shows how queer women survive and thrive in the face of adversity.
Chela Plush is best known for the Plush Pony Lesbian Bar. The Los Angeles Times wrote an article about Chela, the Plush Pony and photographer Laura Aguilar in November of 2017. Chela was a trailblazer that opened one of the only latina lesbian bars in the 90s.
