I am so thrilled to have found a lost episode of my interview with Pamela Geller From my WiFi 1460 AM days. While not the original digital file which remains lost, this file was stumbled upon and I have no idea why or how this version existed! The sound quality is a bit odd, but OK. Pamela Geller came on the air via my invitation to promote her then new book "Stop The Islamization of America"... A book that I believe is more important to read today than when it was first released. Pamela Geller is a hero of mine. She fights for true 1st amendment rights, true Liberty, and True Freedom. She just doesn't talk about these words, she activates them. The left views this woman as the enemy to their Islamic appeasement. They downplay and ignore religion has anything to do with any Islamic Terrorism. Even though the terrorists say it does. Instead they call this brave woman an Islamiphobe. What Pamela Geller is, and has been is a beacon of light to truth. Please, I strongly suggest this great book to read and have in your library. It was an honor to have her on as a guest. The Passing of Joe Franklin at age 88 is a sad moment in time for The Marty O Radio Show. Joe Fanklin gave his last interview to Marty, and it was both fascinating and hilarious. Joe constantly being interrupted by his assistant with calls and Joe yelling out "I'll call back in an Owa!" His humor is laced throughout the interview and he truly was a historical figure in the pioneering of television. The first man to have a TV talk show. Joe interviewed everyone from Groucho Marx, Ronald Reagan, Woody Allen, and it is claimed on Joe's website he interviewed over 300 thousand people. A delight he was to speak with. Listen to the interview and you too will enjoy a man that truly was a remarkable guy.
We have seen the pictures and heard the stories. Sometimes we avert our eyes as they begin to tear. It is a hard subject to face, yet face it we must. I am talking about the horrific conditions within Puppy Mills. Before you think to yourself "Oh no, no, no. let me click out of this article", allow me to say the person that is inclined to not face this reality, That person, perhaps you, that this article is written for. Those already knowing the torturous lives these dogs lead already know Puppy Mills need be outlawed, or vanish via education on the topic. It is those who have not given it much thought, those that avert their eyes, not wanting to think about such cruelty... If you are one of those? This is a direct message right to you. it is my hopes that just one (oh, and I do hope many more) would react to such education to be a part of having Puppy Mills dry up and vanish.
Many of these dogs suffer with little or no food. Starved to death because their breed may not be selling well. Or the Mothers being forced to breed two times a year for five years then killed. The diseases, parasites, sleeping in their own waste, drinking green dirty water... for possible years, all done for one reason. Money. A Puppy Mill can gross more than $300 thousand dollars a year, and there is an estimated 15,000 Puppy Mills in this country. Selling to pet stores, then to you without the animals health and welfare a consideration. When in doubt if your animal you are interested in buying comes from a Puppy Mill, ask to see it's mother. Any reputable place will.
Yes, I could write so much more on the devastating conditions and sad actual stories of these animals, but that is not what this article is about. This is about how to make Puppy Mills a thing of the past, and yes, you can help so easily. If you or someone you know wants to buy a puppy for their family, or for anyone for that matter, simply do not buy from a pet store or an online dog site or even Craigslist. So many wonderful animals can be found at adoption rescue centers, and you will be saving a life and I bet feeling pretty good about yourself for doing such a wonderful deed. It is that simple. Heroes come in all forms. Adopting a rescue animal and you are certainly a hero, and think about the valuable lesson you may be passing down to your children by doing so.
You can even use the Internet to find that special new family member by simply searching in your favorite search engine the breed you would like, adding the word 'rescue'. Again, visit a rescue shelter or rescue adoption center. Pet Smart has adoption days for rescue animals, to which is a wonderful place you can trust. In an age where it is so easy to say "There is nothing I can do" this is easy, you can do something. By adopting a rescue animal you take away the profit of the Puppy Mills. The more people are educated about Puppy Mills, and the more they turn to rescue animals, the less Puppy Mills there will be, and hopefully one day not be lucrative enough to continue.
State legislation is not enough. They do little for the welfare of the animal and they continue to live a truly sheltered and horrible life. Humane is not a word for others to follow. By adopting a rescue animal you are showing all what it is to be humane.

The Marty O Show was honored to have renowned Puppy Mill expert Bob Baker as a guest this week to bring awareness to Puppy Mills and the cruel treatment to these animals. Bob Baker has been championing laws and legislation with the government and media in investigating the horrific conditions of Puppy Mills via the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation.
Currently he will be attending as a celebrity judge for the contest portion of Walk With The Pack event on September 13th 2014 at Meet at 11am in Greenwich Village where Ninth Ave and Gansevoort St converge. Walk starts 12pm. Contest (with celebrity judges and terrific prizes!) begins 1:30pm. I talk politics, but from time to time it is so refreshing to be educated by an expert on an area I knew, well, not so much of. I was astounded by the wealth of knowledge of Mr. Baker and how he has been working on behalf of our four legged friends. His investigations, and pushing for legislation to close these horrible places is proving much success, but still so much work to be done.
According to the Department of Agriculture there are about 10 thousand Puppy Mills in America, and we also import from other countries. Mr. Baker was quick to point out it is all about money. Just one country in Ohio that has over 500 Puppy Mills annually pulls in 9 million dollars... and that is just one country in America!
His sharing of a story of his visit to one Puppy Mill, along with a reporter as potential buyer sums up why each state needs to pass laws to end this horrible business. He was taken to a dog (Greyhound) on the brink of death by starvation. No water, No food, in a small cage. When Mr. Baker asked where was the food and water the reply he received was shocking: "Why would I do that? I am losing money with Greyhounds".
Adoption centers and rescue animals is the way to go, and many pet stores are beginning to abandon dealing with Puppy Mills and the diseases and behavioral problems associated with them. Instead they deal with these adoption centers and people seem to prefer them and their business still thrive.
Many cities have passed legislation banning Puppy Mills, such as Chicago and Los Angeles, but many have not. However, with events like "Walk With The Pack" as mentioned above people are catching on in large numbers across this great country. The event is organized by Jacki Flanigan who has organized several of these events and this will be New Yorks first. If in the area, do attend and bring your dogs too, to walk a mile to show your support for the cause.

The Marty O Show was honored to have Bob Baker as a guest this week to bring awareness to Puppy Mills and the cruel treatment to these animals. Bob Baker has been championing animal welfare for many decades from illegal drugs to horse racing, to working with the government and media in investigating the horrific conditions of Puppy Mills via the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation. Currently he will be attending as a celebrity judge for the contest portion of Walk With The Pack event on September 13th 2014 at Meet at 11am in Greenwich Village where Ninth Ave and Gansevoort St converge. Walk starts 12pm. Contest (with celebrity judges and terrific prizes!) begins 1:30pm.
