Nadia provided a detailed overview about the problem with descriptive statistics revealing a huge interest of 8 key markets in women’s sport on one side while, on the other, women are extremely underrepresented not only in the press but also as coaches, presidents in NOCs among others. According to her, imbalance goes beyond quantity and the quality of female athlete’s coverage is biased with the reinforcement of traditional female gender roles. Indeed, sportswomen are portrayed rather as sexual objects, wives and lovers than as heroes and high-skilled professionals.

Nadja looks for effective changes to stop the domino effect of prejudiced and reduced visibility of women’s sports that leads to a lack of female role models in sports, low credibility and less funding. Therefore, the founder and advisor at NB Communication listed six practical takeaways that any individual can practise in order to promote a fair portrayal of female athletes.

Join us in this inspiring SportsWork TALKS with many insights on how to communicate valuing sporting performance and professional skills regardless of gender. Enjoy it!

Nadia Bonjour is the founder and advisor at NB Communication. NB communication provides creative and strategic communications and public affairs services and consultancy. With expertise on equality and inclusion through language, and in sport, Nadia will provide a snapshot of the combined power of language and sport to challenge the gender narrative – one word, image, voice, at a time.
