Scotty Milas is a franchise consultant, coach, and broker. He is the founder of Scott Milas Franchise Coach and has extensive experience in the franchising industry. With his expertise, Scotty helps individuals explore and navigate the world of franchise ownership. He guides and supports finding the right franchise opportunities based on the client's goals and aspirations.
In this episode, Scotty Milas continues his educational series on franchising. He delves into the questions that individuals should ask themselves and discuss with a franchise consultant when considering business ownership.
Scotty emphasizes the importance of thinking like a business owner rather than an employee and highlights the need to define short and long-term goals. He says, "If you;re thinking about investing in
a business that cleans portable toilets, that does not mean that you;re going to be
cleaning the portable toilets. But you have to think as the business owner how you're
going to build the business, how you're going to scale the business."
He also encourages individuals to consider their personal preferences, strengths, and
weaknesses when exploring franchise opportunities. Scotty explains, It's okay to keep
it simple, but it's also okay to think that I want to build this bigger. But again, you have to
understand where you want to be three, four, five years from now."
By understanding their motivations and aspirations, individuals can make informed decisions and find the right franchise that aligns with their vision.
Key Takeaways:
-Think like a business owner: When considering franchise opportunities, it's crucial to shift your mindset from that of an employee to that of a business owner. Focus on how you can build and scale the business rather than getting caught up in day-to-day tasks.
-Define your short and long-term goals: Consider what you want to achieve in the next three to five years and whether you aim to build a single unit or scale it into an enterprise.
-Consider work-life balance: Reflect on the type of involvement you want in the business and what activities you enjoy. You can find fulfillment and enjoyment in your entrepreneurial journey by aligning your business with your personal interests.
-Know yourself: Reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, and personal preferences. By understanding yourself, you can find a franchise opportunity that leverages your strengths and aligns with your interests.

On today's episode of the All Things Considered Franchising podcast, Scotty Milas welcomes Alicia Miller.
Alicia is the co-founding managing director of Emergent Growth Advisors and author of an
upcoming book.
Scotty and Alicia discuss private equity and its impact on the franchising industry. Alicia strongly
feels that each potential franchisee needs to do their research and determine how much time, energy, and personal expense they can and are willing to put towards the franchise. Alicia feels private equity is not for everyone due to the higher risk involved. However, using private equity has the potential for much higher profit margins for the investor.
In addition, Alicia talks with Scotty about how every franchise allows the franchisee to use private
equity. There are many reasons for this. Some franchises feel it keeps risks lower, while others
like controlling how and where invested money is obtained. Also, franchises like to
eliminate issues that can arise if the private equity franchisee decides to sell their franchise.
Alicia tells Scotty that she highly recommends that all potential franchisees do as much research as
possible on the pros and cons of private equity and the brands willing to
work with private equity.

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED FRANCHISING with Scotty Milas
On today’s episode, Scotty Milas, franchise coach and podcast host, speaks with Jamie Lavigne, the Vice-President of Resting
Rainbow Pet Memorial and Cremation. Scotty considers her one of the most exciting and
talented people today in the world of franchising and franchise development.
Jamie begins by saying that she was previously involved with a different brand but felt the time
to change had arrived, so she jumped on it...with amazing results. Jamie explains, “When I
began with Resting Rainbow, it really kind of blew my mind. The first half of 2023, just for the
first six months of this year, they did $138,983 in EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, and
Amortization.) That's just for six months.”
Scotty asks Jamie why she feels this brand has been as successful as it has been. Jamie replies,
“I think one of the biggest things is that it is needs based. There's barely any selling that has to
be done. It's kind of a field of dream situation, right? If you build it, they will come. That's it.
Hands down, the most important thing about this brand, outside of the passion of it, is that
there is barely any competition.”
Finally, Scotty asks Jamie what kind of an audience she is looking for. Jamie first states that,
“Over 70% of all households in the United States have pets. Therefore, she feels that her target
audience is veterinarians and other pet professionals who work closely with pet rescues and the
ASPCA.

All Things Considered Podcast with host Scotty Milas and guest Jeff Bevis of Caring Senior Service
Not sure about what industry you are interested in becoming a franchisee in?
Not every opportunity is in the fast-food industry. There are lots of industries out there that can not only help you achieve your financial goals but also fulfill your passion in life.
In this episode of the "All Things Considered Franchising Podcast," host Scotty Milas interviews Jeff Bevis, a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) and the COO of Caring Senior Service. With 38 years of experience in franchising and seven different brands in five different industries, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the senior care market.
Scotty and Jeff discuss the advantages of investing in the senior care market, the characteristics of successful franchisees, and the importance of operational support in a franchise. Jeff also shares insights on finding and retaining quality caregivers and the need for physical office space in the home care industry.
He stresses to Scotty that one of the largest problems he sees is that most people only perceive the term “home care” as a few simple services. He states it is much more than that. Jeff says, "The home care industry is divided into home health and home care. We provide non-invasive services like meal preparation, companionship, and personal care." Jeff feels that one concern is that the continuing rise in the elderly population is progressing faster than the services available. "Our industry is not even close to saturation. The demand for senior care services continues to increase." Finally, Scotty asks Jeff if he feels franchising is a good thing for people to invest in. Jeff strongly agrees and tells Scotty, "Franchising is not for everybody, but if you want to follow a proven model and be part of a brand and network, it's a great opportunity."

Scotty Milas' guest on "All Things Considered Franchising" podcast is Nancy Lanard, President and Founder of Lanard and Associates!
Scotty and Nancy discuss the importance of having an attorney review a contract before signing it, even if the franchise document is not negotiable. Nancy explains that her role is to educate the client on the details of the contract and the obligations therein. Scotty emphasizes that it would be foolish not to have a legal review, just as one would not buy or sell a house without a contract. Nancy agrees and explains that even if the franchise agreement is not negotiable, understanding it is essential to know what you are entering.
Scotty and Nancy discuss the importance of having a legal review of a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) before signing. The FDD is typically 350 to 375 pages and can be very overwhelming for someone considering an investment in a franchise. Scotty recommends getting an organization such as Nancy's to review the document and explain the responsibilities of both the franchisor and the franchisee. Nancy suggests that when someone receives the FDD, they should do three things right away:
1: Look at the financial information
2: Read the agreements carefully, and
3: Make sure to ask any questions they have.
They should also have an attorney review the agreement before signing. The FDD is a 10-year agreement and is very important, so it's critical to make sure everything is understood.
In this conversation, Scotty and Nancy discussed when the best time is to review the FDD and franchise agreement. Nancy recommended that prospective franchisees read the first 20 items of disclosure in the FDD. She also suggested that franchisees talk to franchisees listed in the FDD to get an unbiased view of the franchise. Moreover, Nancy noted that it is important to look at the financial health of the franchisor. She said that the best time to contact a franchise attorney is when the prospective franchisee has narrowed down their choice to one or two franchises they are looking to move forward with. Nancy concluded that it is like a marriage and a parent-child relationship when it comes to a franchise agreement, and the franchisor needs to exercise control over the franchisee.
Finally, they discuss the process of becoming a franchisee. Scotty explains that one of the important steps is reviewing the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). They go on to explain that FDD will vary depending on the franchise system, as some are emerging brands, and some have been around for a longer time.
Nancy also outlined two key areas to look out for in the FDD:
Item 7, which details the cost to open and operate, and
Item 19, which is the revenues of franchises. Understanding these two areas is essential for anyone interested in becoming a franchise owner.

Alex Rossman is today's guest on "All Things Considered Franchising" Podcast.
Alex is the CEO of Rossman Media, an agency that has worked with Virgin Atlantic, Orange Theory, and other well-known brands. Alex discussed his story of going from being a college student at the University of Arizona to becoming a successful entrepreneur. He had worked in sales at ADP but eventually decided that wasn't the right career path for him. He then started his own business!
Scotty and Alex discussed the importance of researching and exploring franchising
opportunities and how his agency can help entrepreneurs build their business models and
find the right fit. Alex discussed his desire to own his own business and his experience with
entrepreneurship. He grew up in an entrepreneurial household, with their father being an
attorney and owning his own practice. This instilled in him a desire to take risks and go
down the path of entrepreneurship. After college, Alex worked at ADP, which gave him an
understanding of how businesses operate and how to talk to C-level executives. Alex then started his digital marketing agency. Scotty then discussed the importance of sales aptitude in entrepreneurial success, noting that those who are uncomfortable in front of people should focus on the behind-the-scenes aspects, such as social media and digital platform marketing, while those who are more comfortable should focus on networking and chamber activities.
Alex discussed his thoughts on sales aptitude, which he learned from their experience at
APD. Alex recommended doubling down on one's superpowers, hiring for their weaknesses, and using content and video to share their story. He also
discussed the need to fuel the business by engaging in marketing activities and the
emergence of the conscious consumer, who looks at ingredients and stories before making a
buying decision.

Today’s guest on Scotty Milas' All Things Considered Franchising is Martin McDermott.
Martin is the president and founder of Franchise Interviews and a professor at Purdue University, teaching marketing and course leadership.
Scotty and Martin discuss the changes the franchising industry has gone through over the years and how
it has become a political topic. They also talk about the importance of doing research before diving into franchising.
Martin talks about how the number of franchising systems has increased since 1999, when there were 1,200 systems. They discuss the pros and cons of the increasing number of franchising systems and Martin states that what they love about franchising is that it presents an advantage because it provides two important
things: the expertise and guidance of a franchisor, and the power of a brand name.
Scotty encourages people who are considering franchising to explore all their options.
Scotty and Martin discussed the advantages of buying a franchise. Scotty explained that
buying a franchise is like starting on third base since you are getting a sophisticated system
and strong brand that someone has worked on for a long time.
The two concluded that the number one piece of advice they hear from aspiring entrepreneurs looking to
buy a franchise is to do something that they are passionate about. Scotty and Martin are discussing the role
of franchising in the life of aspiring entrepreneurs.
Martin points out that franchising is a great way for aspiring entrepreneurs to get their
start, and that they need to do their research and use the guidance of franchise consultants
to make the right decisions. Scotty adds that ego can sometimes get in the way of the
decision process, and that it is important to take a step back and make sure that the
decisions being made are the right ones.

In this episode of All Things Considered Franchising, Scotty Milas interviews Mona Janes, the
President and Founder of Creative Funding. With over 30 years of experience in helping clients
strategically figure out their funding, Mona has an excellent handle on business financing
options.
Mona and Scotty discuss various funding options available to qualified clients. They cover the
types of loans, the criteria for each loan, and how to qualify for them. They also talk about the
importance of a business strategy and how to expand a business in the future.
Mona emphasizes the importance of having a solid business plan and the impact of personal credit, collateral, and cash flow on funding options. With the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, alternative funding options can be a wonderful way to secure funding when traditional options are not available. It is important to do due diligence and explore all options before making a decision. Mona also highlights the importance of paying attention to buildout costs for brick-and-mortar businesses and personal funding options for those who do not want to take out a loan. Additionally, Mona explains the benefits of Rollover for Business Startups (ROBS) and how it can help business owners build wealth in their retirement accounts while lowering their corporate tax liability. Finally, it is important to start financing research early and explore multiple financing options. Scotty and Mona also discuss the value of working with a consultant who prioritizes the client's best interests and explores financing options from every direction.

Today’s guest on All Things Considered Franchising is Kim Woods.
Kim is a franchise developer with Authority Brands and Color World Painting. She recently became a CFE Certified Franchise Executive and transitioned out of marketing and lead generation.
Kim has an extensive background in franchising and spent 10 years in the Naval Reserve.
Scotty asked Kim what direction someone should go in when getting into franchising and becoming an entrepreneur. Kim suggested that one should understand that they are getting into a proven
model and that they need to have the drive to grow their business and hire the right people to
help it succeed.
Scotty mentioned there is a lot of diversity in the franchising industry and that there
are now over 4,000 franchisors in the US.
Scotty and Kim are discussing Colorworld Painting, a commercial and residential painting franchise managed by Authority Brands. Kim explains that Colorworld Painting offers interior and exterior painting, holiday lighting, power washing, and cabinet door replacement in addition to painting. Franchisees do not need painting experience, as they will hire 1099 employees to do the painting. Franchisees must have the ability to go into a home and work with people or manage people.
Kim reassures that although sales is part of the job, franchisees are only going to the homes of people who have invited them in because they need their services. Color World has two sales trainers who are great at sales and can help franchisees increase their margins. They also assign them reps from PPG, the paint company, and Sherwin Williams, who give them continuous education on the products they should be using for their market. They also provide guidance on which products work best in different regions, such as what works in New England is different than what works in Florida.
If you are interested in a painting franchise, this is a great episode to watch!

Just about every industry has an organization that helps to set rules, and regulations and handle publicity. For the franchise industry, that is IFA.
Today’s guest on All Things Considered Franchising is Paul Rocchio, Vice President of Development and Member Services for the International Franchise Association.
Paul is with us today to discuss the state of the franchising industry. He has been with the IFA for 24 years and noted that the most recent conference achieved record attendance with over 4,200 attendees! He noted that the IFA plays an integral part in the franchising space by setting rules, regulations, ethics, and morals, and handling any negative publicity that franchising might get. He believes that the state of the industry is stronger than ever, but there are still a few blimps on the radar. The International Franchise Association (IFA) has been protecting, enhancing, and promoting franchising since its inception in the late 1950s.
IFA has been committed to helping franchisors and franchisees. IFA lobbyist and association hack, Paul, has been involved in franchising for 24 years and has seen the organization grow and evolve. He has worked in government and on Capitol Hill, and now works with entrepreneurs, franchisors, franchisees, and the supplier community. IFA has always been committed to its mission and works to ensure that the franchising industry remains on the straight and narrow. Paul and his group of franchise founders started a business association in response to the consideration of regulations on the business model of franchising by the federal government.
IFA is constantly educating the public, Capitol Hill, state and local government, media, and regulators on franchising and protecting the business model from threats. In the recent past, the speaker notes that the business model has been threatened more than ever before, with the pendulum shifting back to the state's side. California's Fast Act, joint employer, and Arkansas's all-last minute have all been mentioned as sources of threats. Paul and his colleagues are always working to protect franchising and ensure its success. Scotty and Paul discussed the pushback against franchising in the US economy. Paul identified the SEIU as a major contributor to this pushback, citing their deep pockets and the fact that most of the franchising industry is related to service, which the union focuses on. Paul also discussed the three-legged stool of franchising: the franchisor, the franchisee, and the vendor community.

JD Busch is my guest this week on my "All Things Considered Franchising" podcast. He is the CEO of Pulse Performance, a new brand that focuses on electronic muscle stimulation (EMS)!
JD has a lot of experience in franchising, having been a franchisee, multi-brand
franchisee and franchisor for 28 years. JD loves the business model of franchising and enjoys
helping others fulfill their dreams of business ownership.
JD started in fitness and then later started owning spas, massage, and eyelash extensions. He then talked about how the fitness industry has taken a hit due to the pandemic but has also seen a rise in the EMS category. He got turned on to electro muscle stimulus at a conference in Vienna and was then inspired to invest in a franchise after he suffered a neck injury. He believes that EMS helped with his recovery, and he is now the fittest he's ever been.
The conversation was about the differences between Pulse Performance's EMS workout and
traditional Orange Theory/gym workouts. Pulse Performance's model is a full-body workout
that takes only 20 minutes to complete but with 10 times the amount of exertion. This is due
to electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) that penetrates through all the muscles. In comparison,
traditional workouts involve a minimum of 6 hours of weightlifting or a 3-hour, high-intensity workout equivalent to Orange Theory. The machines can also simulate running a mile to three miles or even a marathon at the top exertion level.
Ultimately, Pulse Performance's EMS workout offers a faster and more intense way to get a full-body workout. JD explained that they do a full consultation process and offer infrared therapy that can burn up to 600 calories (about 48 minutes of running). They also provide individual services such as EMS body sculpting to tone and tighten with noninvasive fat loss treatment.

Edith Weisman is the President of FranData, a company that provides research and information to the franchising industry. She has been involved in the franchising industry for 25 years, and she and Scotty, the host of All Things Considered Franchising, had a chance to reconnect at the I.A. Convention in February. During their conversation, they discussed the importance of data in the franchising industry and how it can help companies make better decisions. Edith explained her role at FranData, which is to provide data-driven analysis and insights that can guide companies in their decision-making process. She also discussed the different types of brands and the various levels of investments that can be made. Finally, Scotty reminded listeners that numbers don't lie, and that data can be a powerful tool when it comes to making decisions.
Scotty and Edith discussed the role of data in franchising. Edith explained that data and information can be meaningless unless it is put into context. They help companies grow in franchising by understanding the business model, which consists of 30 industry categories and 300 sub-sectors. Scotty was impressed with the amount of detail that goes into franchising. Edith also mentioned that some industries are newer to the franchising model, while others like food service have been around for a long time. To illustrate the value of data for franchising, Edith gave an example of looking into financials to see if a franchise is profitable, and if the profits are reinvested or given to shareholders.
The conversation between Scotty and Edith focused on how franchising has evolved beyond just food service-based businesses. Edith highlighted how franchisors can use their services to better execute onboarding training and improve franchisee success in the first 18 months of operation. They discussed the importance of the first stage of entering into the franchise system to ensure profitability and sustainability. Scotty and Edith also shared their experiences in the industry, noting how far it has come in the last 15-20 years.
This conversation is about the success of franchising and how it helps people get into business ownership. Edith explains that there are many new franchise brands coming to market, with food being the largest category. Franchising is an effective model for building wealth and getting into business ownership as it is de-risked. Edith shares the story of one franchisee who had to spend all of their money to get started but now has five locations. They both emphasize that franchising is not easy and requires hard work and grit. They also mention that the IFA conference had 4,000 attendees and there are close to 4,000 types of franchises and over 700,000 businesses that operate in the US that are franchise businesses.

Today’s guest on the podcast is Jeff Gartner, President and Founder of Hudson Valley Swim.
Hudson Valley Swim has been teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages to swim since the company was founded in 2003. They have been a member of various swim associations since established. Many of their swim techniques were first introduced via those associations and fine-tuned to the needs of their customers over time.
Jeff begins with alarming stats about why learning to swim is so important. He says, “Less than half of the children in the United States know how to swim. However, 85% of them spend lots of time around water in the warmer months. That’s a recipe for disaster.” He also states that there are 4,000 drownings each year and another 8,000 near-fatal drownings.
When asked what prompted Jeff into franchising Hudson Valley Swim, Jeff says, “I was approached several times that work with FSOs (Franchise Sales Organizations) like mine. I had already developed the concept of bottling it up. So, I said, let’s take a look at that and what is that opportunity?”
Jeff is asked about his business model and potential franchisees. He says, “The model is a pool rental model. We find facilities with underutilized pools with large square footage. We bring a program like ours so they can make money and bring in potential new customers. So, it’s a win-win all around.” << CREATIVE BUSINESS MODEL ALERT!

Today’s guest is Randall Smith… entrepreneur and franchisor!
Scotty asks Randall about working with a consultant vs. the “do it yourself” approach. Randall
says, “I thought I knew it all. I knew the direction I was going in and we kind of marched in that
direction. But then I met you (Scotty.) You interviewed us and swung the compass. We looked
in all different directions and settled on this real estate business.”
Scotty then asks Randall what guidance he would give someone when they think they are ready
to make a decision on a franchise. Randall says, “Franchisors will interview you harder than you
interview them. They are looking for the right people to bring in to make their brand more
successful. So, as a potential franchisee, the best you can do is to get a really good
understanding of the end result is going to be through the discovery process. So, end the end,
they are not trying to just sell you, they are trying to educate you.”
Finally, Scotty asks Randall for encouraging words for those who are still on the fence about
franchising. Randall says, “It’s never to late to back out until you sign, and the investigation
process is free…and fun. Start the research and educate yourself. It’s never too early to start
this process.”

Today’s guest is Anne Gannon, President and Founder of The Largo Group!
The Largo Group provides new solutions for our clients’ different demands and superior
individualized accounting, tax, and consulting services. They deliver high-quality financial
products while providing unparalleled personal service, going the extra mile for their clients.
When asked to explain the methodical “Largo Approach,” Anne says, “What we try to do right
away is break it out into a weekly projection. You might not be able to project the first month,
but maybe you could project the first week…and all of a sudden, you feel like you have a little
more control over the decisions that you’re making every day.” (ONE STEP AT A TIME!)
Scotty mentions the frustrations businesses can have with cash flow. He mentions using the P&L as a fundamental tool. Anne agrees and responds by saying, “It’s the first thing you do, and I don’t
think it’s weeks of time. I think it’s a couple of hours at the beginning before frustration grows.
The second part is to have an understanding of how much cash you have in this business and
how much cash your business needs.”
Anne says The Largo Group’s core belief is that through their team’s work with their clients,
they can educate them so they can do the work if they had to. Through forward thinking and
free training seminars, there is lots of great education for new business owners.

Today’s guests are Dustin and Alison Braune, owners of iTrip Vacations.
iTrip Vacations is a short-term property management company. They provide vacation rental owners and guests world-class services through a proven property management program in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, Boerne, and the surrounding area.
When asked about the decision to research and educate themselves on small business ownership, Dustin, referring to his corporate job, says, “I was working very early in the morning and would come home late at night. I thought to myself, if I can do this for someone else, I can do this for myself.”
Regarding spouses in a business together, Alison says, “Spouses need to support each other no matter what, but when you open a business together, it is all-consuming. It is from sun up to we are laying in bed and still talking about things, or the phone will go off and your spouse must be onboarded no matter what business.”
Dustin says there is more out there than just Googling franchises. He says, “You start to learn about different brands and talk to them, understanding the support levels of a franchise system, because it's one thing to invest in a business but you want to be able to get that support …somebody who will pick up the phone at 11 o’clock at night.”

Today’s guest on the podcast is a real legend in the franchising industry. Brandon Campbell, Director and VP of Franchise Development for IMAGE Studios. While the majority of his career has been in beauty and wellness franchises, Brandon has worked in franchise development and franchise
consulting for over 20 years.
IMAGE Studios provides the best salon suite experience in the industry. Designed by industry
professionals, Image Studios makes it possible for you to have your own salon without the usual
headaches and hassles of owning a traditional salon.
When asked about purchasing real estate along with the franchise, Brandon says, “I would
encourage anyone to go out and invest in any type of franchise AND buy the real estate. If the
business doesn’t take off as well as you think initially, you are backing yourself up.”
Scotty asks Brandon if he thinks franchising is still a great option for entrepreneurs to get into
the business. Brandon gives a great answer. He says, “A pure entrepreneur, for me, is willing
to develop something from the ground up, tweak it and sell it. That’s a true entrepreneur… So
if you have that entrepreneurial spirit, a good franchise should match up with folks like that.”

Franchise Fast Lane has become a leader in the FSO (Financial Sales Outsource) industry by helping companies that want to get into offering franchises.
Everline Coatings is the largest line striping and parking lot maintenance company in North America with over 231 territories.
Mike began his career with Best Buy where he worked and climbed the ranks for 16 years. Then after a few stops, he made his way to become brand director at Franchise Fast Lane.
When asked about the changes from one industry(retail) to another(franchising), Mike says it was both excitement and fear, but one platform prepared him for the other. “I am living proof everything you learned at Corporate America will apply in that franchise when you run it. One huge difference, Mike says, is that working in Corporate America can limit your ability to create wealth. “You are only going to have so many stock options and can only build your 401K so big, but when you own your own business NOW you can really create wealth.”
When asked about what traits he sees in individuals coming into franchising, Mike says he sees mostly executive-level people, usually VPs in marketing or senior management. He also sees retail people, plus franchisees of other brands. For Everline Coatings, he sees people that grew up using their hands for labor and are now “white collar” in their careers. They find they can still create wealth while being able to get their hands dirty.
As for advice to potential franchisees, Mike says to study the corporate location. “You will learn all the things they did well and all the things they struggled with. And then I ask myself? How repeatable is that?”

Hello everyone!! Today’s guest on "All Things Considered Franchising" is a truly incredible woman.
Lashae Bacon. Apache Helicopter pilot and entrepreneur. She is the owner of Health By Bacon, a new twist on healthy vending machines where the customer/partner gets to help choose what goes into the machine.
Lashae has been in the Army for over eight years and is one of only a very few female Apache Helicopter pilots. In addition to the military, she also has her own personal training business. She has her personal training certificates from Body Design University in Atlanta and from the American Council on Exercise.
When asked for words of wisdom for people considering business ownership, Lashae states, “Don’t get discouraged whenever something isn’t going in the timeline you want. There may be obstacles that you have to go through, but nothing is stopping you.”
Lashae also stated that she sought advice from half a dozen owners for advice, tips, and strategies. Based on their advice, she decided the vending machine industry was right for her, especially with the lower cost, the lower overhead, and the lower amount of time needed to maintain them. She also felt this was a great business to transition into from the military.
One great point Lashae makes is that one day if she decides to transition into something else, she always has the option of selling it, passing it off, or carrying it along with her.
She is currently placing Health By Bacon machines in Oklahoma City.

potential candidates.
Naturals2Go offers comprehensive business opportunities in the vending space that comes with all the benefits of a franchise without having to pay any royalties or managing fees. Ever. Naturals2Go is a semi-absentee business.
Haroon also says that once the candidate gets into the business and becomes
successful, Naturals2Go will help find additional locations to help your business grow.
85% of their current owners come back after 2 years to order additional machines.
Naturals2Go owners are successful because one of the hardest parts of
business is finding and securing the perfect location. Naturals2Go takes care of
that for each owner. They also help with merchandising in order to help the

Today’s guest is Bob Johnston of Fibrenew. Bob has been in the franchising industry for over 30 years.
Fibrenew repairs, restores, refinishes, and refurbishes damaged leather, plastic, vinyl, and fabrics.
When asked about the type of character one needs to possess to be a successful Fibrenew franchisee, Bob states, “They cannot be colorblind. They must love working with their hands. They have to be coachable. They need to be in good physical condition. They must have networking skills.”
Bob also speaks of what kind of guidance one should receive before becoming a franchisee. Bob believes that everyone should investigate every opportunity they have been presented and then soul search. The franchisor should not only provide initial training and support but ongoing support. Everybody helps everybody.
Bob talks of the multiple revenue drivers of Fibrenew. Whether it is residential, commercial, boating, vehicle, or aircraft, Fibrenew has many streams of restoration. “Wherever you look, leather and plastic is everywhere.”
Bob says Fibrenew can save the average customer 70%-80% of the cost of replacing the damaged item.

Today’s guest is Gary Occhiogrosso, managing partner of Financial Growth Solutions. Gary has been in the franchise business for 35 years. Financial Growth Solutions helps people franchise their businesses and helps existing franchises with development support to make the business more appealing to someone interested in the brand. When asked why someone should franchise their business, Gary says the labor cost and the capital expenditures will be less if a business is franchised versus someone opening another location on their own because the expense will be with the franchisee. He believes in the fact that nothing lasts forever. “When the bottom line is driven by royalties instead of sales, the value of the company is greatly increased.” Gary says he asks any potential franchisor, “Tell me about your business without telling me anything about the product.” His point is to get the entrepreneur to determine what differentiates their brand from all the rest. He wants to know if your concept is a concept that can grow beyond your current location and beyond your current customer base. His key takeaway is to work with the end goal in mind, not just the next step. Our guest on this episode is Emily Anderson, an experienced franchise recruiter with BrandONE Franchise Development. Emily is a third-generation entrepreneur. She started her own business in her early 20s. After several years, she decided to back to corporate life and learn communications and franchising. She began working with business development and educating others on franchising opportunities. She is committed to empowering others in making complete and well-informed business decisions that lead to powerful partnerships from the franchisee to the franchisor. Scotty has worked with her for the last 18 months. Emily explains the similarities and differences between an entrepreneur and a franchisee. Both own and operate a business, and both commit financial risks. However, the risk is much less with a franchisee. Franchises have a much higher success rate. Emily believes franchising tends to be most successful in industries that are proven and in high demand. They can capture the market share by meeting the demand through marketing and efficiency. The new, trendy industry has much fewer franchise opportunities. She is part of an organization called BrandONE Franchise Development, a brand development company that helps companies franchise their businesses. BrandONE Franchise Development also works with the mattress company Verlo. Although they only have about 15 employees, they have a combined 300 years of experience. Emily also worked with Scotty in a company called LaundroLab. She decided to hold off on the expansion of the franchises to get the businesses over. She felt the need to support the existing territories and ensure they were successful before opening more locations. Emily also explains why franchises are awarded. The franchisor has faith in the franchisee, and they believe in their ability to be successful. It also explains why working with Scotty is an asset to work with as a potential franchisee. Red Boswell is the guest on this episode of All Things Considered Franchising. He is the President of IFPG (International Franchise Professionals Group). He’s a businessman, family man, and all-around great guy!
This has been a great year at IFPG franchising.
Red has been an entrepreneur for over 40 years and focused on franchising for about 20 years. He started out as a franchisor for seven years. He transitioned into a Chief Development Officer role for a four-year period with Global Brands. Four years ago, he transitioned to IFPG to help many people and brands.
IFPG has people from all professions that have become successful consultants and changed many lives for the better. Scott is part of IFPG. There are 600 hundred brands validated that Scott can present as options to his clients.
Red's thoughts on the consultant industry in regard to the role of the consultant and the value it brings to business ownership. There are several thousand consultants out there. Is the market saturated? No, it’s going to keep growing! People need franchise consultants! You need someone to help you through the big decision of getting into the franchise industry. There is a lot of technology to help candidates make decisions. IFPG is the #1 source of awarded franchises outside of organic leads. This is only about 20% of the awarded franchises.
In North America, the consumer-protected-oriented government regulations surrounding the franchise industry have made the risk low for franchisees. There can be failures, but the buyer is very protected in North America. The franchisor has to present information so the potential franchisee can make the right decision. It’s a great time to be in franchising.
What are the questions potential franchisees ask to find the right person to work with?
-Do you feel comfortable with them?
-Do you see them as a trusted advisor?
-Do you feel like they are the right person to guide you through the process?
Fear and anxiety set in during the process. Buying a franchise is a big decision.
As a candidate, really understand YOU. Write the pros/cons and concerns.
The process is a lot of learning about your consultant, the process, and the brands.
No decision is needed right away; keep working through legitimate fears and things that cannot be controlled.
The pandemic hit us hard. Working from home helped people realize they like flexibility, and no commute, and they had the test drive “partially” being their own boss. Many people did not want to transition back to the office. It’s important to put things in perspective. If you want flexibility and independence, small changes in the stock market and interest rates can’t be the focus. Keep working towards your bigger goals.
What is the personality of people wanting to be a franchise consultant?
-Helping people achieve their dreams
-Desire to be a trusted advisor/role
-Three traits: manage yourself well, trusted advisor, not be afraid to have tough conversations and guide them through the next steps, need leads!
If you’re thinking about franchise ownership, talk to a franchise consultant and see if it’s for you. There is no obligation!

This week's episode is a great interview with the President and Founder of Image Studios, Jason Olsen. Image Studios is in the luxury salon suites segment. Jason started out with an automotive business. He did not want to be in an industry that was tied to the economy; he then learned about the luxury salon suite industry. The beauty industry is about connecting and feeling good. People get tired of everything being automated in today's world. People want to be around people! To be an Image Studios owner, you don't need to have a background in the salon industry, just have an entrepreneurial spirit. Image Studios is a mix of beauty and real estate businesses. It took a lot of determination to get the business up and running Jason feels the fear of failing to act is what keeps him up at night. He likes being a franchisor because of the access to so much data. He and his franchisees work together to improve the brand by reviewing the data and making improvements. Starting a business from scratch is great, but it takes longer, and you're on your own. Image Studios offers freedom and flexibility. He also works with the people leasing studios from him to become better business owners. If you're looking for the next chapter in your career or are looking to diversify your franchise portfolio, Image Studios offers semi-absentee ownership with predictable revenue due to contracts. This week I had the pleasure of talking with Jamie Lavigne, Franchise Development Manager of Woofies, a great franchise concept in the pet industry. Jamie has vast experience in the franchise industry, working with multiple verticals throughout her career. Jamie discusses how the first time she talked with a potential franchisee, they don't discuss much about Woofies. She wants to know their "WHY," their goals, and what they want to accomplish. Passion is very important if you're going to be a business owner. With Woofies, you need a passion for animals and need passion to be successful and independent. The pet industry is recession-resistant. With Woofies, there are multiple revenue streams in one package: dog walking, pet sitting, mobile grooming, pet transport, and community events! This franchise is very scalable. Mobile grooming can be expanded with additional staff and vans. Pet transport is a much-needed service as elderly people may not be able to drive their pets to the vet. Jamie feels the franchise industry as a whole is very strong. Having franchisors to help franchisees during all economic times helps to keep businesses open and thriving. For more information about Woofies, contact Scott Milas at scott@scottmilasfranchiseconsulting.com.
Scotty Milas, Franchise Coach, talks with Vickie Storm, the V.P. of Franchise Development of iTrip Vacations, a short-term vacation rental franchise. Scotty and Vickie discuss why people consider buying franchises and the characteristics of people that should not pursue franchises. Franchisee candidates need to make sure they are getting the information they need to understand and evaluate the opportunity as a good fit for what they want to do. The franchisor should also look at the candidate to ensure the franchisee is a good fit for the brand. iTrip wants to make sure the franchisee wants to be successful. Does the day in, day out of the business make the franchisee happy? Also, iTrip looks for individuals with professional business experience. It serves them well as they start their franchise. Working hard helps them to live so well later. iTrip starts working with franchisees within days of the franchisee buying their unit. They provide live 1-on-1 training to give them hands-on experience. Their technology helps streamline the franchisee's work to be successful. Also, iTrip's technology helps properties to be shown higher in the search results. Franchising has become more alive than ever and is of greater interest to more people than ever. Many people used to stay with one company throughout their careers. After layoffs and downsizing, people are looking at other options. Everyone needs to be their own steward and aware of options. Franchises are becoming a more explored option. To get in touch with Scotty, email him at scott@scottmilasfranchisecoach.com or call him at 860-751-9126.
