Growing Hope Living Faith is a podcast that explores stories through scripture and via interview that encourages, uplifts, challenges, and motivates through the everyday journey of life. Stories can be a powerful thing, and helps us to realize that we are not alone on this journey and bring us hope. As our hope grows, we are called to live out that hope, by living our faith. Host, Pastor Rhonda Frye and Pastor Seth Thompson, are just real people trying to exemplify where the call of God should lead us all.

Wisdom is different than knowledge and should effect how we live our lives and interact with others. Wisdom should lead us to encouragement together in living the life God wants us to live. We also discuss the reality of wisdom and its potential downfall. Just like everything given by God, we can use wisdom for God or for our gain. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the political climate in the US and what the Christian response should be. It is so easy to get focused on the poltical situations and to demonize and do away with people who disagree with us. It is also easy to use scripture in ways that magnify your person and positions, even though scripture was never meant to be used that way. So what do we do? Ephesians calls us to unity. Unity not through human constrains, but through Christ and His blood. This is the only thing that can truly unify. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the prophetic passage from lectionary. It is important to have some understanding of what a prophet was, and the situation they were walking into in order to get a clearer understanding of what they are trying to say. Amos came from the south, but ministered to the north. This was not very welcomed, but he did come with a warning. Either turn towards God, or exile will come. The people then have a choice. Listen and turn, or ignore and continue to head down the path of exile. There are many who claim to be modern prophets, but are simply trying to pad their account and build their wealth. How do we make sure that we are listening to people who are trying to lead us back to Christ? What do we do when someone challenges our ways of life that do not point to Christ? We hope these are all questions you will work through as you listen to this podcast.

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth look at suffering and lament and it's place in the christian faith. We often push away from these things, but the bible places quite a bit of emphasis on these things and how we participate in them. As much as we respond to suffering in our lives, the question should arise in how do we respond to the suffering that takes place in the world and in the life of our neighbors. This is such an important question for us as followers of Jesus, and we must be willing to wrestle with these thoughts and conversations. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the fall of humanity and Israels decision to want a king rather than allow God to be king. This is the same problem that has been resurfacing over and over. We see it in scripture and we have the same questions and issues today. Who are we going to allow to be our king? Are we going to look around and see the world and desire what they have? What is pleasing to the eye? Are we going to allow our friends and family to influence us and the choices we make, even if we know they are not right? These are all important questions, and ones that we must continually process as we are on this journey of faith and trust.

It is an exciting time for the church and the church can make a difference in the world, only if we move to a willingness to lay down our lives. The time has come for Jesus to be glorified and start his final trip to Jerusalem. In this passage, Jesus talks about the reality of death and life. Those who lose their life now, will gain it, and those that love their life now will lose it. In order for growth and fruit to come, once must die now. Death is hard, but an important realization of following Christ. We die to ourselves and the things of this world, and as we do that, growth comes in us and around us.

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the lectionary passages for the 4th Sunday of Lent. In it, they discuss the OT passage of the poisonous snakes attacking the people of Israel for their grumbling, and how it relates to the NT passage in John 3, in which Jesus references that event. John 3 is a passage that we are all very familiar with, and though it has implications for the future, it really speaks so well into today. The reality of this passage speaks to the fact of the importance of truly looking to Christ which brings about our salvation, and the opposite of that, which we experience even now is condemnation. How awesome would it have been if God only had to give us 10, and we could have learned to allow those to lead our lives and how we treat people. The fact is though that God had to continue to add more and more because that is what the people wanted. It is easy for us to want the answers, to know the ins and outs, and to be able to tell others when they are doing wrong. But, that is not the way of the 10 commandments, nor the way of God. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the 2nd Sunday of Lent focusing on the Genesis and Romans passage. These passages show the faith of Abraham. God promised Abraham to make him a great nation in Genesis. Even though he was old, God told him that he was going to bless all nations through him even though he had no son yet. The Romans passages points to the faith of Abraham and Sarah, that even though they were old and barren, they believed what God said and did their part to be apart of the promise of God. What an awesome showing of what faith really is. Just as Abraham showed faith, the call is for us to pick up faith, as it is faith that saves through the work Jesus did. May we pick up faith in a big way and live out our part in the promises of God as He is moving and working.

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth continue the discussion on the call from last week as they look at the Jonah passage in the lectionary. Jonah is such an awesome character in the bible, and there is so much that we can learn from him and his story. The bigger picture in Jonah though is, how much we learn about God and who He is. In this story, we see the realities of a loving, gracious, caring God who values repentance and redemption. He values it so much, He is willing to repent and change His mind on the destruction of a people. Jonah though struggles with this and His call to deliver the message of God and His kingdom. Sometimes it is easy for us to struggle and get complacent. Scripture does call us to a sense of urgency though, and the question is how are we going to live that kingdom out here and now. Joy is such a wonderful thing in the life of the believer and is distinctly different than happiness. The world can take away our happiness, but the joy we receive from God can never be taken away. We have a a reason to have joy. We have a God that loves and has never left us. He sent His son for us. He came so that all can be free from oppression. He came so that all that was high would be brought low and low brought high. This is such a beautiful picture of the Kingdom and what it is all about now. So as we live now, we live this life of joy in all that we do, pushing others towards this freedom from oppression, and inexplainable joy that we have been able to experience. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the lectionary passages for this week, focusing on the Jonah passage. This week truly is an extension of last weeks passage that talk about forgiveness and judgement. Grumbling is easy to do when things don't go exactly like we like it. Jonah knew that God was going to be gracious to the Ninevites, and instead of being excited about their turning, Jonah decides it would be better for him to grumble and die. How easy it is for us to get to a place where we want God to move in a certain way, and when he is more gracious than we want, we grumble and complain. We can not control what God does, or how he moves and works, but the one thing we can control is our response. May we get excited about the work of God, and not control His work, but respond in positive ways as God shows His mercy and Grace!

This passage looks at how the church is suppose to treat each other, especially within the church. Our call is to encourage and journey with each other, not judge and tear each other down. There is a reason that relationship is so important to God, but it is vital that we do not have a one sided relationship. This is such an important aspect of formation, as the bible helps us to understand God better and allows us to understand our purpose in the world we live in. Many times though, we approach scripture with the goal to learn information, not that information is bad or that we should not read the bible for information, but a huge par of reading scripture should hopefully be for formation to happen in our lives. There are great resources and ways that we can push towards scripture being formational in our lives, and we begin to scratch the surface in this episode. We see all throughout scripture the need to STOP and be quiet. The Israelites had a whole day dedicated to this called Sabbath. We see all through scripture though, there is something amazing that happens when people apply silence to their lives. The amazing thing that happens is, God shows up. It is so hard in the world and cultures we live in to prioritize and be intentional about silence, but if we can work on developing this skill and discipline, we believe that God will speak and work like we could never imagine. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the biblical birthday of the church and what it means. God desires to pour out His Spirit on all people, and this is not just seen in the book of Acts, after the ascension of Jesus, but is a theme that is seen throughout the old testament as well. Moses and Joshua had to deal with God pouring His Spirit out on people other than them. This can get messy though, and is easy to try and contain rather than live into. There is something about God's people getting together though with a similar desire and purpose. If the church can understand and live this, then we believe that God will pour His Spirit out in a beautiful way and move like only He can. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth continue to discuss the Easter season passages with the focus being on the Ascension of Jesus. It is so important for us to dive deeper into the reality of this event, in order for us to be able to fully understand the arch of the Christian Calendar. The Ascension points to the kingship and lordship of Christ. Even as the king, Jesus still shows concern and grace for His followers, commanding them to go and wait for the one who was to come. We also have this promise of His return, and he call to preach the good news to the world, and forgiveness of sins. What a call that we all have, What a mission He has placed in front of us. And for the disciples, Jesus said to start close to home, start in Judea. This has huge implications for them, and us, as we live the gospel message to those around us. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss Paul's conversation with the Athenians that we see in Acts. Paul is telling them of the "unknown god" altar that they have amongst all the other altars to other gods. Paul clearly lays out who this God is, and how through Jesus, he proved to be the true living God. He did not abandon us, but is the God that lives with us. Paul essentially invites them into a different story then what they had known. The call of this God is to live righteousness, which correlates to the John passage. John's passage calls us to following the commands of Jesus. This is right after the command that Jesus gives to do as He did by washing the disciples feet. As we do this the Father and Son reside in us and allow us to be the true representation of God and who He is to the world around us. What a beautiful picture of who we are to be, and what a beautiful way to live life. May you love God and follow His commands.

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth continue to discuss the Easter season and the scriptures that are provided through the lectionary. As we flow from last week, we are called to be sheep. This calls us to believe in Jesus. This is never easy, but requires for us to rely on Him for our all. As we do this, God does something amazing within us and to those around us. We become a holy nation, a royal priesthood. Sometimes, the result of this can be tough. Stephen, following the example of Jesus, which came from belief in Him, ultimately gave his life for that which he believed. His example shows us what it truly means to follow and believe in Jesus. We do it unto death knowing and hoping in something more. We can only imagine the recounting that Paul did down the road as he watched the killing take place. May you move to a place of belief and live out that which it calls you to live. We are praying for you!

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the early church and things that we can hopefully learn from the early church. It is so easy for us to get caught up in being leaders and leading those around us, but the call of God's people is to be sheep. We are called to follow, not lead, and to lead others into following Christ. This is vital for the church to understand and is only done as we devote ourselves to the teachings, the fellowship (each other), the breaking of bread, and prayer. When we do this, people will definitely desire to be apart of what God is doing and following Him. It can be discouraging as we look at the church and what it has become, but may you have the strength to be the church you desire to see. Know we are loving and praying for you!

Easter is so easy to get excited about, but what do we do now that we have celebrated it, and it is over. There is usually is a lull in the services immediately following Easter, but it is important for the church to continue to move forward. A great way to move is to look at the disciples and try to experience and understand where they were at. As we look at their responses, it simply comes down to seeing, not necessarily physically, and believing. What is going to be your response? Are you going to choose to see?

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss Palm Sunday and its significance in the christian calendar. We often rush over this Sunday to get to Easter Sunday, but it is so important to understand this Sunday and what it means for us. Jesus comes in peace and recognizes His call as the Messiah. There were ideas though of what Messiah should be and how Messiah should come. There were ideas of what Messiah was to do and how he was to do it. Jesus has something else totally in mind though. We hope as you listen to this episode, your heart will be drawn to your desires and preconceived notions of who God is and how He has to be in your life. We are so thankful for Palm Sunday and what it means to the church, may we see it in new light and in its true splendor as we continue our journey to the cross and the empty tomb.

In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth discuss the lectionary passages that are found in the 5th week of Lent, which point to the truth of the Spirit and its movement in God's people. In Ezekiel, we see the passage of dry bones and the prophet prophesying to them. The bones came to life, but it was not until the Spirit was called and brought forth, that the bones were able to truly be alive. We also discuss the raising of Lazarus, and the breath returning to him. That which was dead was brought back to life, and the reality of Jesus is shown. The Spirit calls us to new life, and the question we see in Romans, is are we going to live by the Spirit or by the flesh. In this episode, Pastor Rhonda and Pastor Seth continue the conversation on scripture and the Lent season. All of the scriptures go hand in hand, and we want to encourage you to read them all. Today, we focus on the Gospel passage and the healing of a man born blind. Jesus heals him on the sabbath, and this creates issues within the leadership at the temple. As they question the man, he pushes back against them asking if they too would like to believe. This ultimately gets him kicked out of the temple. Jesus later finds him though and declares His messiahship to the once blind man. Jesus saw him in his blindness, and did not leave him there. Jesus saw him once removed from the temple, but did not leave him there. Jesus desires is for us to have and experience living water. This living water is not for a few, but for all people, even outcast and foreigners. When we experience this living water, it leads us to a life of worship in Spirit and Truth, a life of freedom and realness. God does not desire for us to stay in the wildernesses of our lives, and as we continue this wilderness of Lent, may we realize this desire God has for us. These passages are great passages of a people who are in exile, apart from God, and God leads them to know where He is at. It is in the emptying of self and embodiment of the Gospel, that the people will find God. God tells His people that as they do these things, He will be there. This is not any easy task, and definitely goes against today's society, but is so important for us to embrace and live. Journey with us into scripture and allow the Spirit to move in your life.

In this first episode of Real Church, Real People Podcast, Pastor Seth & Pastor Rhonda discuss God’s expectations of Kingdom living found in Luke 6:20-31. While the standard may seem unattainable, Jesus believes in us and will help us. We discover this wonderful truth in the familiar, real-life story of Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33). Jesus never leaves us on our own to successfully accomplish Kingdom purposes. Instead, He extends a helping hand. What Jesus did for Peter, He is willing to do for us too.
