Here we go again, it's our annual Top 5 lists. Today we're counting down the top 5 backcourts in the SEC for this coming season. The SEC continues to bring in top talent in the transfer portal. Since our last episode, Arkansas is bringing in DJ Wagner, Tennessee got Chaz Lanier, and so many other big names made big moves. Plus, Basketball lost one of its biggest icons this weekend. Bill Walton passes away at 71.
Dalton Knecht, Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard, Justin Edwards and Trevon Brazile are all SEC players trying to earn a pick in the NBA Draft. We take our first good look at this year's draft. Rumors are swirling about Coleman Hawkins, Chaz Lanier and Achor Achor heading to SEC teams. Meanwhile, Arkansas adds Adou Thiero to John Calipari''s growing roster. The Alabama Crimson Tide are headed to their first ever Final Four! Nate Oats and company got revenge on a tough Clemson Tiger team. No matter what anyone says, Alabama is heading to Phoenix. We look at the upcoming game against the UConn Huskies as well. Meanwhile, Tennessee loses a somewhat controversial game against Purdue. Zach Edey shoots more free throws than the entire Volunteers team. While Purdue may still be a great team, there's a foul taste in Rocky Top fans's mouths. Also, Tennessee transfer DJ Burns and North Carolina State defeat Duke. NC State is back in the Final Four for the first time since the 1980's!
The Alabama Crimson Tide and Tennessee Volunteers will both face teams they lost to back in November. With both teams on the edge of program history this season, can either of these teams get redemption and advance to their first Final Four? We are down to two remaining SEC teams but everyone was in a thriller in their Round of 32 match-up! The road to recovery can take a while, but after firing Will Wade from LSU two seasons ago, Matt McMahon has started to put the pieces together to progress LSU back to its natural place in SEC basketball. Last season, LSU got off to a promising start but the steam eventually ran out and the Tigers finished last in the SEC, yes even behind South Carolina. LSU lost seven players to the transfer portal, so there is going to be a ton of new faces in Baton Rouge this year. Additionally, the Tigers were able to return names like Fountain, Reed, and Ward. There’s title talk and optimism going on like crazy in Lexington. Last season Kentucky was bounced from the NCAA tournament by Kansas State. Aside from this class of five star freshmen, Kentucky is bringing back Antonio Reeves and getting Tre Mitchell from the transfer portal. The Auburn Tigers fought their way into the NCAA tournament last season despite some ups and downs through out the year. But Bruce Pearl continues to put Auburn in the top half of the SEC discussion year after year. Last year, Auburn punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament with a trip to Brimingham. They beat Iowa as a 9 seed and made their way to the second round where they lost to the Houston Cougars.
