Surviving Chaos means understanding and valuing wisdom. Proverbs 17:28 says, “Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent.” Sometimes the best action is keeping silent rather than risking opening our mouths to hurtful words.

In this episode Chris discusses the need to make the words we choose matter in order to build up and encourage our spouse.

In this episode, Chris & MJ address the foundational reason couples experience disunity in marriage. When a couple puts God first, everything else falls into place.

Part 1 of the Top 6 Killers of Unity in Marriage: Misarrangement of Priorities.

Quotables:

When we put God first, everything else to fall into place. That’s a great alignment of priorities.

Even Jesus talked about this; the alignment of the kingdom. “Seek first his [God’s] kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you as well.” The idea of arranging priorities is definitely a kingdom thought. - Chris

Truth is the more we have our focus on God the more they fall into place. We forget that God has our best in mind. - MJ

God desires us to have the things he know we need. He knows our needs before we do. And he desires for the best for us. When we put him first the way he’s created us to do then everything else falls becomes blessing. - MJ

There is something in us that fights to put God first because we want to put everything else first. - Chris

“If you’re putting my needs first and my desires first and you’re neglecting your relationship with your Heavenly Father, with God, the marriage actually becomes weaker”.- Chris

“If we’re going to be in eternity together then I need to be making sure that 1. I have that strong relationship with God and then 2. I’m bringing you along side to make sure you have that strong relationship with God. And if Adam really cared about Eve, that’s exactly what he would have done. He should have walked along side his wife better than he did. “- Chris

It plays out in the rest of the family. Whenever you [husband] are walking with God and your wife is walking with God then your kids see that example and follow suite in that pattern. - MJ

But if we are setting the tone and setting the example we have a better chance of allowing them to see what it means to live a godly life. And living a godly life becomes very attractive. - Chris

When we have our relationship with God where it is supposed to be, it’s easier to see our spouse through God’s eyes. Because we’re not seeing through our own perspective, our own lens, and seeing all the things that are problems or mistakes or issues. Instead we’re seeing this is another child of God and we’re seeing all the blessings we have. The enemy likes to deter us and get our eyes off of God and focused on anything and everything but what is accurate and what is helpful to us. He just wants to see us stumble and fall flat on our face. And if our eyes are not where they need to be that’s exactly what we’re going to do. -MJ

If we’re gonna have a strong marriage the foundation really has to be that God is that center. - Chris God didn’t call my wife to be a follower of me. God called my wife to be a follower of Him. - Chris There is definitely a need to align the priorities based on your marriage so that you can function to the best of your ability for God’s glory. - Chris If we’re going two different directions, the marriage isn’t going to work. It creates friction and then that friction turns to miscommunication and it just snowballs after that. - MJ It came down to the need to be humbled and figure out what we want out of life. What are our dreams? What are our hopes? What is our future? Do we have a future together? Do we have goals? And we started setting little goals. Once we started setting those little goals we found there was a realignment of our direction. We’ve learned to work within our differences to realign to one single direction. -Chris There’s always restoration. There’s always hope. But we never want to get to the point where we are mistrusting our spouse. - Chris Resources: For more about Surviving Chaos visit our website: http://survivingchaos22.com You and me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity Francis and Lisa Chan, 2015 Fireproof movie, Sherwood Pictures, 2008 Slow Fade by Casting Crowns, 2007 Financial Peace University, Dave Ramsey

Tweetables Quotes: “Forgiving the Nightmare, it’s far more than just forgiving the abuse. It’s walking in forgiveness. It’s walking in joy. It’s not allowing the things of the past to have control over the things of the future.”- Mark Sowersby ”The lies, insecurities, and anger were replaced as I clung to the knowledge that God was there. Always there, he was there through the darkest hours. His presence was constant.”- Mark Sowersby ”The attitude of the altar still needs to be about us. While we don’t offer burnt offerings anymore, I surrender my life, my will, and my heart to become a living sacrifice.”- Mark Sowersby “The altar becomes a place to reflect, recall, respond, repent, and resolve my thoughts, attitudes, and actions. It is a place to renew my mind, heart, and relationship with the Lord.”- Mark Sowersby “Find something that will remind you of the goodness of God and put it on your altar where it will daily remind you to reflect, respond, repent, and resolve that which God is calling you to.”- Mark Sowersby Resources: For more about Surviving Chaos visit our website: http://survivingchaos22.com For more about Mark Sowersby visit his website: http://forgivingthenightmare.com Check out his book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Forgiving-Nightmare-Mark-Sowersby/dp/1951475186 (https://www.amazon.com/Forgiving-Nightmare-Mark-Sowersby/dp/1951475186)
