Can we avoid tests and trials in this life? No. Do our bad habits often lead to trials of our own making? Yes. So if we listen to Jesus and rid ourselves of these bad habits, we can avoid many unnecessary trials and tests. But what to do when we are in those inevitable trials? Stay tuned to find out!

Most Christians accept that Jesus rose from the dead, but if so, have you thought about the radical implications for your life? I have found that it helps me track with Jesus if I follow what he is doing each day of his last week. On Monday he clears the temple and on Tuesday he verbally attacks and publicly shames the Jewish leaders. Is he backing them into a corner so that they have no alternative but to kill him? When Jesus says, “… your father knows what you need before you ask him,” do you realize what an astounding statement this is? Do you see what a plate-tectonics shift this could be / should be in our approach to prayer? Today let’s dig into this incredible promise from Jesus and its implications for us.
When we are faced with a decision, do we seek God’s direction? Do we want to be in his will? And if so, how will we know if we are? Today we will seek to understand how, when we are faced with options that do not seem to be black and white, can we determine what God’s will is.
In the Lord’s Prayer we ask, “Your will be done.” But how would we know if what we hear is indeed God’s will – or our own? Or worse, Satan deceiving us? Can we know and discern God’s will? Does he still communicate to us individually about such matters? Yes and Yes! Stay tuned to find out!
As we look around our world and see the poverty, the wars, the disease and crime, we have to wonder, “Is this the will of God?” If it is, he is either not a good God, or he is not and all-powerful God? But is there a better explanation? Yes!

When we pray for God’s will to be done, do we have any idea that for which we are asking? Do you actually want to give up your free will, or do you still prefer your will, your way? Perhaps you’d like some balance of your will and his will. But what if you could see that his will is always “good, pleasing and perfect?” (Romans 12:1-2). Tune in to find out
Today we take look at the symbiotic relationship between “Our Father in the heavens” and “Your kingdom come.” Our Father is in the heavens, which means he is all around us – we live in a God-saturated world. So why do we need to pray, “Your kingdom come,” if he is already all around us? Tune in to find out!
When Jesus says, “Your Kingdom come,” he is saying a mouthful! Can the Father’s Kingdom come when I am on my throne – the king (or queen) of my castle? Perhaps this is why Jesus said,
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money … or Self.” Matthew 6:24.

Today we begin a journey into a better understanding of the prayer Jesus gave to his disciples, and by extension, to us. We call this, The Lord’s Prayer. It is more accurate to say, The Disciple’s Prayer. Jesus gave this to them and to us to use as a model to follow.
In Deep Calling Deep, the beloved Apostle John will be our guide, as well as our eyes and ears, as we watch the encounters Jesus has with these and others throughout John’s Gospel.
I can only imagine the myriad experiences we would observe – the miracles – the healings – the parables and the teachings - the confrontations with the Jewish authorities.But what intrigues me is the idea of watching Jesus interact with the various people he encountered along the way.What can we learn by watching Jesus respond to his mother, when she asks him for help, and he changes the water into wine?What is Jesus saying to Nicodemus, “the up and in,” about being born again and the Spirit?And with the “the down and out” Samaritan Woman at the Well, Jesus shows us how to effectively reach those who have been wounded by religion and relationships. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24). I contemplate this passage often, and often think to myself, “What kind of idiot would proactively ask God to inspect him or herself like this?” But I have learned that this inspection will assist me in my introspection. Something I need, often. Do you? Today we talk about our Spiritual Inventory to review at the beginning of the year. Are you brave enough to take it? Or perhaps I should say, “Are you serious about going deeper into the Kingdom?”

Prayer Series (Asking) Can I pray for my own good? Can I wear God down to get what I want? What if God granted my prayer requests? What would be the Ultimate Prayer Request?
Today we will look at two of Jesus’ parables that have been poorly interpreted and therefore poorly preached on. In the parable of The Friend Knocking at Midnight (Luke 11) and the parable of The Widow and the Unjust Judge (Luke 18), many have concluded that Jesus is telling us to keep knocking and keep going to God until we “wear him down,” in order to get that for which we are praying? But could this possibly be Jesus’ message?

Do you find yourself criticizing and complaining from time to time? Perhaps more often than not? When we do this, it is a sure sign that we have lost our focus on just how blessed we are – no matter what is happening in our life. Today’s lesson is an exercise in remembering. Remembering all the many blessings we already have, being aware of just how bad things could be, and remembering the prayer requests we made to God, that had he granted our wishes, we can now see would have been a negative thing in our life. This is a great exercise for all of us all the time, especially with Thanksgiving approaching.
