With the backing of Dr. van der Veen as his Academic Advisor, Mori Michael, is pursuing a Masters degree and possibly a PhD, doing important translational work on the world's oldest alphabet, the Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions of Serabit el-Khadim and Wadi el-Hol!
These inscriptions were featured in our films The Moses Controversy and Journey to Mount Sinai Part 1. Both Mori Michael and Dr. van der Veen believe them to be the earliest form of Hebrew and that they align with the time of the Israelite sojourn and Exodus. As we continue our series on theories of Sodom's location, a very prominent archaeological site known as Tall el-Hammam needs to be addressed more fully.
This site located to the northeast of the Dead Sea has been proposed by archaeologist, Dr. Steven Collins, and others to be the remains of Sodom, the most prominent of Cities of the Plain destroyed in the book of Genesis.
In this episode (part 1 of a 2 part disucssion) Tim and Dr. Collins take a deep dive into the evidence he and his team have uncovered at the site during their many dig seasons. The two also discuss the raging debate surrounding Tall el-Hammam's identification as Sodom as it relates to geography, chronology, and interpretation of the archaeological finds.

Lennart was a Swedish DNA Research Scientist, an Exodus Explorer, and a very dear friend of Tim.

This week on the Patterns of Evidence Podcast, Filmmaker, Tim Mahoney, and Research Professor of Old Testament at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Jason DeRouchie, discuss the historical and miraculous nature of the events at Mount Sinai.
Tim and Dr. DeRouchie relay the critical importance of Mount Sinai being a real, identifiable location and why it matters that these events actually took place. What dangers exist in people saying, βWhere it happened doesnβt matter - only what happened there mattersβ?
Dr. DeRouchie shares his thoughts on the fire of God. Should we be looking for a mountain that shows signs of intensive burning - or - is this not necessarily a "must have" criteria due to the nature of this fire as described throughout Exodus and other passages of Scripture?
Was Mount Sinai a volcano? Are there naturalistic explanations for the thunder, lightning, and smoke atop the mountain? Tim and Dr. DeRouchie take a deep look at this, as Dr. DeRouchie emphasizes the miraculous nature of the cloud and fire of God, pointing out how it moved and led the Israelites throughout the wilderness, as well as rested on the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, and later in the Temple - all beginning with the burning bush.
The two close on the question of whether or not Mount Sinai was considered a holy mountain prior to the burning bush and God's covenant with the Israelites. Does Exodus 3:1 prove it was a holy site possibly for centuries before the Exodus - or - is there another explanation?

In this exciting 4th episode with Dr. Scott Stripling and Dr. Peter van der Veen, Scott and Peter reveal the full translation of the inscription on the inside of the Mount Ebal curse tablet.
Dr. Stripling and Dr. van der Veen also share additional archaeological evidence and context from the altar site that helps to further date this inscription to around the time of Joshua.

In our final episode with Dr. Scott Stripling and Dr. Peter van der Veen, Scott starts by sharing the theological implications of the Mount Ebal curse tablet.
As Dr. Stripling points out, if the Bible is historically accurate and there is a God of the Bible, as this tablet affirms, then that God holds a moral claim on our lives.
Dr. van der Veen then shares what the future holds for the project and how there is much more work to be done - both with translating inscriptions on the outside of the tablet, as well as potentially wet-sifting the remaining 2/3 of Adam Zertal's dump pile.
Tim, Scott, and Peter close by discussing the providence behind this discovery and why it is just now coming to light in our time.

Dr. Stripling discusses the press conference that was held at the Lanier Theological Library to announce the discovery and how millions of people have learned about this amazing artifact because of it.
Dr. van der Veen and Dr. Stripling also share about critics who lashed out prematurely, attacking the find, yet have no basis for their criticisms. Dr. Stripling then relays that the response, as a whole, has been overwhelmingly positive.
This tablet will forever change the world of biblical archaeology - as it has major implications for the Exodus and Conquest and what period in history we should search for evidence of these events.

In our 3rd episode with Dr. Scott Stripling and Dr. Peter van der Veen, Scott and Peter share what is by far the most remarkable aspect of the Mount Ebal curse tablet's translation.
Inscribed on the inside of this tablet is the divine name of God written in Proto-Alphabetic script - ensuring that this is, in fact, an Israelite text! Also found is the name, "El," a title used for God in the Hebrew text of the Bible.
Dr. Stripling and Dr. van der Veen point out that this is devastating for the documentary hypothesis which claims that the Torah was written by different authors hundreds of years after the events it describes. Here, both of the primary names for God are found side-by-side, just as they are found on the pages of the biblical text. This exciting discovery demonstrates that the documentary hypothesis is false.
