February 24th 1986 is a typical, sunny Monday in Van Nuys, California—until John Ruetten comes home after work to a terrifying discovery: his wife of 3 months, Sherri Rasmussen, is lying unresponsive on the floor of their condo. It’s just before 6:30 AM on October 5th, 1976 when young mother Jane Carson is blindfolded and attacked with her 3YO son in the house. She is victim #5. 2 months later, 15 YO Kris Pedretti stops playing piano, thinking she heard something in the other room, despite being alone in her house. She is victim #10. A year later, true crime fan Margaret Wardlow studies this serial killer, not knowing that she would become the 27th victim of the man she had read so much about. He's been known under many different names: the Visalia ransacker, the East Area Rapist, the Original Night Stalker or the Golden State Killer, but 44 years later, 200 witnesses stand in front of him to make sure justice is served.

August 10th 2000 is a big day for 8 year old Midsi Sanchez as it’s her birthday party that afternoon, so she decides to walk home alone instead of waiting for her siblings like usual. Only one block away from her house, a man gets out of his car nearby and asks her to help him pick up something, and as she reaches down, the little girl suddenly vanishes from Vallejo. 3 days go by, until Midsi gathers her strength to escape one of California’s most dangerous serial killers.

On July 25th, 2016 Aundreah Maes has just finished her shift at the mall in Salem Oregon, when a man armed with a handgun forces his way into her car and tells her to start driving. This man, a cop-in-training named Edwin Lara, is wanted for the disappearance of a young woman, Kaylee Sawyer, in Bend Oregon and is now on the run, killing and car-jacking anyone in his way. On September 20th, 2013 9 yo Andrew Hockensmith frantically calls 911 from the back room of his parents' pawnshop, where an armed gunman has just stormed in. In spite of the danger, the boy only cares about saving his baby sister and urges the dispatcher to hurry and send help.

Both struck by the news and dissolved in tears, could one of them be hiding a twisted secret? But what the detective doesn’t know is that Crystal's 5 year old daughter Zaniah, who was hiding in the car at the time of the murder, might have seen it all.

“I can't die – I have to save my girls” --At 11:05 AM, on the 31st of January 2004, a 911 operator answered the phone to a woman breathing heavily, but not saying anything. Another call comes through, and this time an address is given, but when the police arrive at the scene, they only find an empty handgun case, sweatpants, and a large red stain on the carpet. With time running out, and just a few clues, the police need to catch who did this and find Teri Jendusa-Nicolai and her 2 daughters before it’s too late. Teri Jendusa-Nicolai is an advocate for Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin, which passed in 2020, giving equal rights to victims of serious crimes.

You’re on your way home and suddenly, your phone buzzes. Everyone around you looks down at their screen, and you know it is now everywhere: on your social media feed, on TV, even on traffic boards. You don’t pay much attention to all of it but still skim through the description while walking, just in case. When you finally look up from your screen, a weirdly familiar car catches your eye and you call 911. A kidnapped child has been saved thanks to the alert on your phone. This story is not uncommon, and it all started in Texas, in 1996 with the unsolved murder of 9 year old Amber Hagerman.
