According to many people in the world, Christians can be very disrespectful and hurtful people. Therefore, it's important to recognize division, and reconcile it in a proper way.
As we continue in our theme of Communion, we explore the ordinance of communion in more detail, and try to explore Jesus' purpose for it so we can have a deeper understanding of what true communion in Christ is meant to be.
This Sunday is the Advent theme of love. We will celebrate by seeing how God is the essence and the source of all love, and how we should live out this love in our own lives.
Joy is available for us as we go through a boring or even painful process of the work of God because God is with us through it all.
We look for peace everywhere, but perfect peace is found in God alone. This peace takes action in faith, surrender, and obedience and we can live in this peace as we make it a practice to turn to him first and stay steadfast in him.
The unexpected and unscripted life help us to live out our faith in real ways of love toward others.
We are creatures that will become like what we consume. This is true because this is how we were created and therefore, this is the reason why of all things, Jesus asked us to remember Him through eating and drinking. Thus, we can know that we can and will transform to be more like Jesus as we consume more of Jesus in our daily life.
There is an unseen, spiritual realm all around us and it's main characteristic is of war; spiritual battles being waged against us against all things of God. Thus, we need to be properly equipped to resist and overcome and this is done by knowing our true identities in Christ.
Though not all interruptions are good and therefore, we have to be discerning, we nevertheless need to be those that are ready to welcome and embrace the unplanned and unexpected happenings in life for the Lord, many times, uses those moments to meet us and build us up in fresh ways. Where if we are those that do not, we will run the very high risk of being too controlling about our lives and thus, hardened to the Lord's fresh leadership in our lives as well as true concern for others.
The “Generational Gap” is a subtle but a powerful force of division. So we need to aware of it to then combat it through a pursuit of unity in Christ by following Jesus’ incarnational model. This will call us to a commitment to prioritize listening, learning and international, intergenerational relationships.
Wanting to be like God to define for ourselves our own standard of good and evil is the source of all sin and the destructive characteristics thereof. In such, we need to recognize the propensity for us to want to do so, repent of it, to instead know and live by God's standards alone. This is what will help us to be who Jesus called us to be; those who love others and He loved us.
On the final judgment day there will be those who will be part of the kingdom and those who will not be. As those in God's kingdom, we need to have an urgency to go out and work in the fields to bring in God's harvest.
In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus shows us how God's kingdom expands on this earth, and a big part of it is played by his church. So is the church continuing in this mission even today, and if so, how is it supposed to happen?
We will look at the who, what, when, where, why, and how of following Jesus. We will examine the 6W's by answering the following questions: Who are we really following? What does it mean to follow Jesus? When is it a good time to follow Jesus? Where can we follow Jesus? Why are we following Jesus? How should we follow Jesus?

Every day we need something to look forward to. It gives us proper purpose for our lives, and it gives us proper perspective. What is it that you look forward to?
True forgiveness is a very difficult matter. However, by faith in God even the most impossible situation is made possible.
Jesus, the Great Physician came to us to heal our brokenness. Our brokenness is what we need to have a relationship with God.
Why is Jesus known as the Lion of Judah and not the Lion of Joseph? What happened for Judah to be transformed from a scoundrel who once sold his brother for money to being the greatest tribe of Israel?
We were created in the image of God to do good work, but we have lost that purpose. However, in Joseph, we can see that God has a plan to restore that purpose of work for us.
In spite of all the sufferings Joseph went through in his life, God had a purpose for it. Through Joseph's story, we'll try to see what purpose God may have for the sufferings we go through.
We are tempted every day by many temptations. In Joseph's story with Potiphar's wife, we see the true purpose of the devil's temptations for us, and also how we can overcome together with God and as a community.
As we all face hard times through our own shortcomings or bad things happening in our lives outside of our control, we can find our redemption through surrender to Jesus. Jesus gave us a perspective of surrender in his life through these kinds of things. My main focus will be on the life of Peter, highlighting his ups and downs, but God's love covering Peter through all of the individual things. He does the same for us as we adjust our perspectives to surrender as well.
For our Christian faith to be genuine and effectual, Jesus needs to be for us, both our Savior and King.
Do you find yourself to be a competitive person with the need to win? Have you ever asked yourself why this is important to you? Similarly, do you tend to compare yourself to others with regard to their status in some arena of life? In this last sermon of the 7-part series on How to Live in Grace, we will look at the difference between the realms of law and grace and how freedom affects how we relate to others.
Having been delivered from the realm of law/standards into the realm of grace -- where the mood shifts from expectation to invitation and the mode of operations switches from rules to relationship -- how do we go about the pursuit of self-realization in a healthy way? If the standards of this world were always dictating how I should see myself, how do I go about seeing and developing myself now?
Now that we've been set free from under the burden and oppression of law, standards and expectations and into the realm of grace and freedom, how do you stay in grace and freedom and not go back to living under law? The answer is what most Christians already know, but often the palpability of it eludes us until we see its distinction from law.
When we hear that Jesus died for sins, we usually think he died for the bad things we do. But what if Jesus died for our failures in life as well? And if that's true what would that mean for all the ways we fail to measure up to the standards and expectations of this world that weigh us down? How does Jesus' work on the cross set us free from failure?
We all experience failure in life. Much of the time, it is not a bad thing; it's part of life. But often our failures latch onto our identity and sense of worth. When that happens, sin is at work, but are we actually sinning? What does Scripture have to say about our experience of failure, sin, and the subsequent feelings of inadequacy?

A crucial step in stepping into the freedom that Jesus has redeemed us for is to identify the nature and the dynamics of law, standards and expectations. To live out our faith properly and well we need to be committed to community, specifically gathering regularly to share to one another, our testimonies of our attempts in obeying Jesus. This is how godly wisdom is realized and nurtured towards application in our everyday lives.
Time is passing and limited. Therefore, we need to know how we must live to ensure that we live a life that counts, not one lived in vain.
God's righteousness does not come from any effort of our own, but it comes from faith in Jesus, which is rooted in God's faithfulness first for us.
Faith in Jesus Christ is more than a mere belief that Jesus is Lord, but it's really about faith and trust IN Jesus as Lord. This trust in Jesus is a result of giving up our lives in discipleship to Jesus.

Often times we find ourselves huddled, hidden and comfortable in life (and for some of us Covid has only made this worse). Because of this it’s easy to forget that God calls us into uncomfortable and hard places, to spread out, to bear witness and to bring transformation to the world. And this comes through the unscripted leading of the Holy Spirit.

Though our new theme, "Faith Unscripted," calls us to realize that faith that is pleasing to God is one "unscripted", this does not mean that we are to be without standards. On the contrary, it is only when we are those committed to the daily discipline of growing in knowledge and understanding of God's word, can we properly live "faith unscripted;" those truly free to harness the full possibility and potential that the Lord has made available to us through faith in Him.
Faith in the Lord must be one unscripted because faith in the Lord is about having a true, intimate, living and dynamic relationship with Him.

3.Serious Accountability a.“Coaches”, or our church’s leadership, will surely push you to do more, and in particular, to live in full obedience to the fullness of God’s word. This is a given. That’s what they’re there for. It’s their job and it’s what you want and expect them to do b.Teammates/ Your peers will text you if you miss a "workout." They too should and will hold you accountable to God’s word c.And we will allow this to happen to us! We will embrace it because of points 1 and 2!
4.Not to mention that there are regular meetings with the same team, 5-6 days a week to prep for the games. And this is true for us too as the Church for as the Apostle Paul said, we are to run the race of faith as we would in a race to get the prize!
5.There is a clear, shared, and positive goal- to be in the best shape of your life and to do well in the games. And again, in the case of our faith, to grow to be like Jesus as much as you can and to run well the race marked out for you. To really live to love others as Christ loved you that they may see Christ in you.
6.There is a shared investment in suffering and vulnerability. That we will come together in rawness and vulnerability to create then the needed reality in which we can actually help each other and carry each others’ burdens
7.There is Transformation a.Personal transformation to be more like Christ, which will then affect the whole of our being. This will give us a greater sense of personal awareness, a change of mood, confidence, vitality, etc.. for the better b.Social transformation. As we live to love others, the society around us should and will be impacted towards greater love, care, truth, and freedom
8.Not a theory but an Experience. Being the Church is something to be shown, done, experienced, and not just talked about/ As Jesus said "Come," he replied, “and you will see.”
9.This is not just about the time at church, but your life outside the church
10.And as a result of all this, the people involved will stay very much committed to Christ, His words and His promises, because of the synergistic power produced in the authentic community that has been built through the characteristics just mentioned. And in such, Christians will be very joyfully open and active to recruit as many others as they can to what they found as both good and true!
- Hear It- As Romans 10:17 states/ Faith comes through hearing the word of God. So we need to be committed to listening regularly to the word of God being declared/ And especially in the church congregation context.
- Read It- We also have to read the word of God for ourselves! And just as we need to eat everyday, Bible consumption should and must happen everyday, as well, for similar reasons. To do, scheduling a time to do so in the morning sometime, as well as using some kind of Bible-reading plan, is very highly recommended.
- Meditate on It- In the midst of all your read, latch on to one point that caught your attention, to then focus in on this point to intentionally think about it all day (What does this point say about God? About you? About your current life circumstances? About your relationships?/ Etc.)
- Study It- You don’t have to do so like a biblical scholar, but there needs to be some sort of commitment to the study of God’s word. So when you read, use the units of inquiry (Who, What, When, Where, How, and Why?) to identify one thing in that passage that you had a question about and look do some research about it!
- Memorize It- It doesn’t have to be word for word perfect, but there’s spiritual blessing and power to committing to putting God’s words accurately into our minds.
- Pray it- Since our prayer life must always be a response to the Lord, the Bible should and must ALWAYS be the source of your prayers
- Include Others- Talk to others about the Bible, your insights, your questions, etc. This brings encouragement to others as well as greater accuracy and discernment to your own understanding as we test our Bible thinking and thoughts with those of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
- Test it Through Your Actions- The Bible is to be heard, read, meditated on, Studied, Etc., to ultimately be obeyed! This is what will being true transformation in your being to be who God redeemed you to be and to do what God set you free to do, in Christ Jesus!
- The Quality of Your Devotion- If you see how the Israelites rebuilt the wall, you will see that they did so with a singular focus and determination- with materials in one hand and swords in the other (Nehemiah 4:17). This gives us insight as to the quality of devotion we should and must have, to guard our time in God’s word.
- Jesus Himself was a man committed to the discipline of prayer. So if He did, how much more so do we need to be??
- A commitment to a life of prayer is expected by the Lord, and commanded for His people
- Know that prayer is something to learned, to be practiced towards improvement. Like learning a new instrument. So don’t be easily discouraged when your prayer life seem difficult in the beginning.
- Know that praying demands planning (Sentence prayers vs sustained prayers).
- Always use God’s word for prayer first, as prayer is first a response to God!
- Pray with faith and persistence! Know that God will always answer our prayers, but the “problem” is that it many times is not in the way or in the time in which we want them answered, as God needs to coordinate on many, many levels to answer even the simplest of prayers. This can take some time. And remember that His answer could also be a no.
- Share and pray with others to learn, but also for discernment.
- Only God can touch and change a human life so we must pray for others if we want to see them touched and transformed towards more Christlikeness.
- Recognize and remember that God can do FAR MORE than we can do. So cover all your work, and thoughts, and plans, and worries in prayer!
- Spiritual warfare is real so we got a fight in the spiritual realm and a big part of doing so is through prayer. As it’s been said, when on the battlefield, the soldiers need to stay in communication with the General!

Rev. Daniel Armistead has been the senior pastor of Seoul International Baptist Church in Seoul, Korea (sibckorea.org) since 2008. He also teaches classes at Torch Trinity Graduate University as an adjunct professor. Before coming to Korea, he served as a pastor in Baptist churches in Texas and Georgia. He has an M.B.A. from Florida State University, an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a D.Min. from New Orleans Baptist Seminary.
Nathan Shannon, PhD Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology
Dr. Shannon graduated with a BFA in music performance from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA) and then pursued graduate studies in music at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands. He then earned an MAR in theology and a ThM in historical and theological studies from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia, PA), and a PhD in theology from the Free University of Amsterdam (Netherlands). Dr. Shannon was previously Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, and Lecturer in systematic theology at WTS. Dr. Shannon's research interests include systematic and biblical theology in the Reformed tradition (esp. prolegomena and the doctrine of God), philosophical theology, and apologetics. He joined the Department of Systematic Theology at Torch Trinity in the spring of 2015. Dr. Shannon and his wife Sabina have two children: a daughter, Mia, and a son, Elliot.

We return to help run EUC alongside Heavenly Dream School and several other churches. The focus for this trip is to run a week long summer camp aimed at bringing reconciliation between God and man, and NK and SK. Attendees will be a mix of NK refugees and SK students.
Heartland is an outreach project to the rural area of Korea where there is need for the Gospel. On August 10-14th, Jubilee will bring a team of people to serve around 130 children in a VBS style program that shares the Gospel through activities, arts and love. ?
We will be partnering with Pastor Jenny Oh and V2R in their work in Kampongcham province. 32 short term missionaries from US, Canada and Korea will be working together to reach the Kampongcham area for the Lord.
We will be partnering with Food for the Hungry in their work in North Sumatra. The trip will include a community building project, VBS for children, soap making class and pastor's training.
