As we continue to explore Momentum through some less familiar stories of our faith we come to a story from the Book of Esther. Esther is a unique book of the Bible for one reason: throughout the books ten chapters . . . God is Silent! In all the other books of the Bible, God is heard, seen, and experienced. So why even include it in the Bible if it doesn’t tell us about God?!? Pastor Chad appreciates the Book of Esther because it helps us remember that even when God is seemingly silent in our lives, hope remains. It is a reminder that even in the silent moments of our lives God is present. Even Jesus experienced God’s silence when on the cross he cries out “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Knowing that Queen Esther had hope (faith) that her plan to save the people of Israel would work without hearing from God gives us hope that even when we don’t hear God’s voice we can have faith to carry on. And this is why a book that doesn’t mention God is such an important part of our faith story.
