This week we explore the journey that led Georgia resident, Durrell Smith from a casual weekend bird hunter to a career as an upland author, podcaster and videographer. Durrell describes his experiences shadowing some legendary African American dog handlers on quail plantations in Thomasville, Georgia and his documentation of their impacts on the development of generations of bird dog traditions. Durrell’s immersion into this niche community and the friendships that developed are documented in the film, Dogmen.
