Introvert myth of the week Introverts don't make good leaders! In the week where it's the 35th birthday of Windows 1, that seems a good time to tackle this persistent myth.
It's nearly happy birthday, so this is anniversary episode 1.
In this week’s show………
Angie Phillips is a multiple award winning graphic design consultant. The interview I did with her about networking was one of the most popular in the year, so I thought I’d invite her back for a few minutes to help celebrate the show’s birthday
Leadership tip of the week Working from home, office working and hybrid working are all big changes to the way we’re used to working. How does that switch affect your team?
How do you use the greatest control mechanism you have a manager – the meeting? Here's a simple tip, taken from a childhood love of watching Ice Skating!

Introvert myth of the week Introverts can fix themselves and become extroverts. They just have to speak up!
In this week’s show………
Ian is a long time Sales Leader in the tech sector, for the last 13 years specialising in Cloud Computing, with over 25 years tech leadership experience.
He has sat on the boards of a number of related industry bodies and built many new business sales teams in both small start-ups and large corporate organisations.
Leadership tip of the week Get better at spotting the introverts in your team, so you can help them in appropriate ways. This problem is often caused by introverts trying to look like extroverts, as success often has an extrovert appearance. Introvert myth of the week Ego is an extravert thing.
Yes I know one of the things many introverts dislike is people with big egos taking them out and waving the round. It’s easy to think of big ego people as being extravert, but the two are separate.
Is your introvert ego, holding you back?
In this week’s show………
Gina is well known for her leadership expertise and illuminates the Way for enlightened leaders to create a more profitable & meaningful mission. Her website is https://genuinely-you.co
Leadership tip of the week Many of us now have to run, or be involved in more virtual meetings than ever before. There’s an assumption that introverts prefer them, as there’s less people contact.
Simple fact is that most people, including introverts find them tiring and often more tiring that face to face. In most face to face meetings people will look around the room every now and again – it’s not frowned upon. But on camera there seems to be an expectation of more concentration.
One simple tip to help – have more breaks and get people to get up and move. The introverts will find it useful, but everybody else too.
Other things that help are being much tighter on the agenda (keep it more relevant to the people in the zoom and stick to it). You could also try getting a different person to summarise the discussion on each subject, so every 10-15 minutes there’s a short summary

Introvert myth of the week Penny for the guy mister….
One myth I’d like to confine to the bonfire today is that it’s easy to tell an introvert from an extrovert.
More and more people wear masks (figuratively, not the covid, or even Guy Fawkes ones). If the rewards for success go to more extrovert behaviours, then it’s no surprise that many introverts will wear a mask to hide in plain sight. In this week’s show………

Leadership tip of the week You’ve probably noticed how most introverts aren’t big on self-promotion as they prefer their work to speak for them, you’ll be helping yourself and them if your recognise that.
That doesn’t mean praising them more, although praise never hurts, but your praise is external validation. Most introverts prefer internal validation. So, help them to validate themselves by helping them realise what makes a good job (in terms of some specifics) and help them see what they’re doing well at that level.
Now they know you value them as your comments are at a level of detail they appreciate rather than a simple “that’s good” AND they’re better equipped for future internal validation, which helps their confidence and your productivity.
Introvert myth of the week Introverts can't sell - Not only is this WRONG, it's dangerous as some introverts start acting as if it's true. Hear why I think it's wrong as I put this myth into the bin. For more selling tips listen to the interview with Ben Kench, author of Selling for Dummies.

Leadership tip of the week I was recently asked "does it take longer to manage introverts?". My answer was NO as a good manager manages different people differently, not just focusing on introverts.
The longer version of my answer was published on LinkedIn, and I also talk about running meetings that make things happen here.
Introvert myth of the week Extroverts are better networkers than introverts.
I might not throw this one straight into the bin, but only before we agree on defining better. You can get more ideas about networking for introverts at NinjaNetworking.co.uk

Introvert myth of the week "Introverts don’t listen in meetings", as "proof" I was told that they don't interact as much as others in the meeting.
How does good leadership interface with the introvert/ extrovert issues?
This week’s episode discusses leadership with author and leadership expert Roger Fairhead. Roger helps difference makers make a difference.

Introvert myth of the week Introverts are quiet, what really? Let's explore the truth of this one, think about where it might come from and then chuck it in the bin!

In this week’s episode I’m really pleased to be interviewing Claire Sewell. Claire helps turn self doubt into sales by helping female business owners overcome self doubt, learn to sell with certainty, win more clients and build their business and income more boldly.
Claire and I have had several discussions on leadership, introversion/ extroversion, self-doubt and labels. More precisely whether labeling people is positive, or negative.
You can contact Claire on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/claire-sewell-sales-and-mindset-coach/

You've probably heard of the concept of having a comfort zone, as a place where we feel...err comfortable?
I often hear people saying that to grow or change one needs to break through, or jump out of one's comfort zone. As introverts are sometimes assumed to lack confidence, this comfort zone issue gets attached to us.
This week's episode discusses the nonsense of jumping out of your comfort zone with expert introvert coach Aoife Lennox.
A fear of public speaking (glossophobia) or dislike of presenting is not the same as being introverted. However, many introverts don't like presenting (in public, at work or elsewhere).

Have your ever thought about some people and the presence they have? It’s as if they have a power that makes them a great leader. Many introverts I’ve interviewed feel they don’t have presence because they’re introverted.

Jacqui will help you define presence and things you could do in order to develop your presence.

This episode is about why introverts don't always get to answer the questions they were asked (without somebody answering it for them) and what you can do about it.

Introverts are as diligent, ambitious and hard working as extroverts. But some people don't realise that, as introverts tend to not say a lot about what they're working on, or have achieved as they don't like bragging.
So how do you stay top of the bosses mind, so you can more easily be promoted or get that new project? The trend to virtual meetings, can make this even harder.
This week's podcast is a discussion I had with fellow introvert expert Chelsey Brooke (https://www.thepathfinderforyou.com/).
I'd love your feedback in the iTunes or Google play stores.
Many introverts don't like lots of noise and that's also true of the volume of 'noise' on social media at the moment.
Benn Abdy Collins and Christina Jones are both introverts with thoughts on the increase in social noise. Christina looks at how to punch through and get your message heard above all the noise.
The unusually high level of noise also gives introverts a chance to shine and show their skills in meetings.
