7 Reasons We As Elders Have Perfect Peace About Our Church Building At 5100 Ararat Drive
Sermon by Josh Christophersen:In today's sermon, we explored the pressing issue of the devil's schemes, which aim to foster isolation, promote a consumeristic mindset, and encourage fruitless living among believers. This strategy is evident as more individuals in developed nations embrace singleness and celibacy, not out of a call to holiness, but to serve selfish desires. This shift towards self-centeredness is also seen in the church, where members consume spiritual services without engaging in fruitful community life. The Bible warns us against such unfruitful works of darkness and calls us to live out the kingdom of God through active, fruitful engagement in all areas of life. Our mission is to embody this kingdom by fostering genuine community, resisting the consumeristic tendencies of our times, and nurturing a culture of fruitfulness. As part of this vision, our church is expanding its efforts through new missional communities and leadership training programs, ensuring that our leaders are well-supported and that our gatherings reflect the vibrant life of the kingdom.
Sunday School Teaching by Gina Christophersen:In the book of Titus, Paul emphasizes his role as a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, aiming to strengthen the faith of God's elect and deepen their understanding of the truth. He underscores the necessity of faith manifesting through works, as echoed in James 2, where faith without works is deemed dead. The scripture consistently calls for self-control among Christians, a trait that should be evident in their actions and lifestyle. Paul's teachings in 1 Timothy 5 and 6 highlight the importance of good works, integrity, and reliance on God rather than wealth. Furthermore, 1 John 1 and 1 Peter 2 stress living in the light of truth and exhibiting sound, error-free speech that aligns with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Paul also addresses bond servants in 1 Timothy 6, urging them to honor their masters to uphold the dignity of God's name and ensure the teachings of Jesus are respected, reflecting integrity and soundness in their actions and words.
Teaching and Panel Discussion hosted by the wives of our elders:Insecurity is a common struggle among us, affecting both men and women, often leading us to cover our true selves. The Bible, in Genesis 3, illustrates this through the story of the serpent and the temptation of Adam and Eve, showing how they became aware of their nakedness and vulnerability. This insecurity is rooted in a lack of fear of the Lord, as highlighted in Proverbs 1:7 where it states that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Jesus in Luke 12 reinforces this by urging us to fear God rather than man. To combat insecurity, we must cultivate a healthy fear of God, which leads to true security and confidence in His divine nature, as opposed to seeking self-esteem or succumbing to the fear of missing out, as often discussed in our gatherings. We are reminded that God's ways are always good and that in fearing Him, we find the strength to overcome the lies of the world and the challenges of pride and arrogance.
Sermon by Josh Christophersen:In recent years, the church has undergone significant transformations due to events such as COVID, racial unrest, and political elections, which have served as a divine shaking and purification. The Bible emphasizes the importance of building the church correctly, guided by the grace God provides to each individual. This building process involves every member contributing effectively, aiming to manifest God's wisdom. However, there are pitfalls in church planting, often seen when the focus shifts to worship, preaching, and childcare as mere services rather than expressions of genuine faith. The church must be built on the foundation of Jesus Christ, with each member living out their faith authentically, which prevents hypocrisy and promotes a community of openness and integrity. The quality of a church is determined by the character of its people, the depth of its leaders, and the authenticity of its worship, reflecting the kingdom of God not just in words, but in power and daily life.
Sermon by Bryan Purtle: In the continuation of Jude's letter, the focus is on the dangers posed by false teachers who infiltrate the church subtly. These individuals exploit the grace of God as a pretext for immorality, driven by their own corrupt nature, much like unreasoning animals. Jude warns that such false teachers, who divert followers to themselves rather than God, will face inevitable judgment. The epistle also encourages believers to steadfastly maintain their faith and remain in God's love, highlighting the importance of prayer in the Holy Spirit and building up one another in Christ. Jude's message is clear: hold fast to the faith, show mercy to the doubting, and trust in God's ultimate justice and salvation through Jesus Christ, who alone can present us blameless with great joy before His glorious presence.
Sunday School Teaching by Josh RuffIn our exploration of Second Thessalonians, we delve into the prophecy of the coming of the Lord and the emergence of the Man of Lawlessness, described as the son of Satan. This figure will exalt himself above all forms of worship, declaring himself as the object of adoration. Similarly, Revelation 13 portrays the Antichrist rising from the sea, empowered by the dragon, to wage war against the saints and deceive many into worshiping him. The Antichrist's deceptive prowess will challenge the very belief in Jesus as the Messiah, promoting himself instead as a divine figure. Amidst these deceptions, the Bible warns of false prophets performing signs to mislead many. However, the scriptures remind us of the true gospel: salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone, who took our sins upon Himself. As the world faces these spiritual battles and deceptions, our call is to steadfastly love the truth of the gospel, holding onto our faith amidst persecution and the allure of false miracles. The ultimate victory belongs to Christ, whose second coming will dispel all deception and affirm His sovereign power and authority.
In Jude's letter, it is warned that those who misuse God’s grace for immorality and deny Jesus Christ invite condemnation. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah faced eternal fire for their sins, today's dream-chasers, who defy authority and blaspheme sacred beings, mirror their rebellion. Believers are urged to remain in God’s love, anticipating the mercy of Jesus that brings eternal life.
