According to a recent Gallup poll, two-thirds of Americansview immigration as beneficial for the country, while 27% consider it to be abad thing.

The percentage of people who see immigration as a good thinghas decreased from its peak of 77% in 2020 and is the lowest recorded by Gallupsince 2014, when it was 63%.

However, the current 68% who view immigration as positive isgenerally higher than in the early 2000s through 2012. Although only a quarterof Americans see immigration as detrimental, this perspective is more prevalentamong Republicans (43%) than Democrats (10%), with independents aligning moreclosely with the national average (28%).

Nonetheless, half of Republicans, 67% of independents, and87% of Democrats still consider immigration a good thing.

The poll was conducted after the Biden administration liftedemergency regulations, known as Title 42, which had allowed border controlofficers to immediately deport individuals caught entering the U.S. illegally, rather than providing them with an asylum hearing.
