Fear often drives lawmakers' behavior in DC. And right now, they fear sensible negotiating on the debt ceiling. Steven Pearlstein from George Mason University says fear of leadership, voters, and social media keep lawmakers a safe distance from reasonable conversations. But there's one representative on the Democratic side who isn't afraid of any of that and has a decent proposal on the table to address the debt limit.
