80 years ago today, one of the largest, most ambitious, and most successful military campaigns in human history was launched. D-Day marked an unprecedented invasion operation of allied forces onto the beaches of Normandy, with the aim of liberating occupied France and defeating the German army that had taken over much of Europe. And, to the benefit of everyone who has lived since that day, they were successful. And today we honor the soldiers who fought, died, and those few who still remain, and thank them for their singularly heroic efforts.
