Early Christians did not expect human institutions to create a Christian world, or enforce Christian values. They knew they were aliens and strangers in this world. And as aliens their job was to trust in the Lord with unfailing hope, be obedient to his will, and pray “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt 6:10 NIV)
