Let’s open our Bibles to Exodus 17.

We will see in this passage, verses 1-7, how the LORD provides water to the children of Israel by way of a miracle.

The LORD gives Moses His instructions on what he is to do to bring forth water out of the rock. Moses was merely to take his rod, with which he struck the waters of the red sea, and strike this rock one time only.

As Hebrews 3:5 says, “Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were spoken afterward” especially the things concerning the Lord Jesus.

As we hear, our Lord was struck only once at the cross when He shed His blood. This is not to be repeated ever again.
