Before their exodus from Egypt, chapter one of this book gives us the circumstances and status of Israel before Moses was born.

The dire situation is that a new Pharaoh arose to power who did not even know, let alone remember, the life-saving deliverance Joseph gave Egypt some 300 years earlier.

Knowing history is important! A person who does not know past history is bound by their own present short experience. This ignorance of the past and it’s benefits for the present and the future leads to destruction.

For Israel, a ruler with no knowledge of the benefit done for his country by a former deliverer, brought Israel into cruel bondage.
