Episode 23: Is there any area in your life right now where you feel stuck? In survival mode? Like you are just living day by day trying to survive? I hear ya because that was me 10 years ago. Being 23 was a very hard year for me, but I turned 33 last month and I am blown away when I reflect back to my life 10 years ago and how far I have come. I always knew that the life I was living wasn't how life was meant to be lived. And although I know I am constantly growing every day I am so grateful for how far I have come.
A prequel to this episode: Dream Chasers and Change Makers Episode 8
P.s. This episode being number 23 and being about how far I have come since I was 23 was a big coincidence! I love when that happens ;)

I struggle so much answering the question "where are you from" or "what is your background" because yes I was born in Miami, Florida on American soil but I do not feel like I am an American girl! I feel very much Cuban even though I have never even been there.
This episode is a deep dive on how I have struggled to find my identity as a second generation immigrant, and how I do get ashamed or embarrassed when I am asked too many questions about what part of Cuba I am from.
Lets continue this conversation. Head over to my instagram @bettypastelitos and let me know what you think about this topic!

Crunchy mom! Silky mom! Velcro mom! Almond Mom!
From the second we get that positive pregnancy test until forever we are constantly making choices for our child(ren) and those choices we make sometimes put us into boxes! From being a silky mom who prefers modern medicine and whatever clothes is cutest and cheapest, to crunchy moms who bond through extended breastfeeding and bed sharing, to working moms who have their child in daycare no one warned us that just like in Mean Girls motherhood also comes with secret groups you sometimes don't even know you belong to!
In this episode we discuss what it means to just want the best for our kids whether we are a scrungy mom or a dolphin mom.
Spoiler: you are! How many times have you questioned if you are a good mom or not?? I can’t even count how many times I’ve gone to sleep questioning if my kids love me and if I did anything to traumatize them that day. Well in this very real episode I give you some encouragement and inspiration so you don’t forget that what we are already doing - makes us perfect as we are. Our kids are going to love us no matter what and we need to embrace that!

But a conversation I had with my friend really helped me understand why I SHOULD purse that thing. And hopefully after this episode you will be inspired to also!

We are all guilt of it – resorting to screens to entertain our children. Whether it’s the iPad, TV, video games or other tablet we use these distractions to keep our child busy while we go about our parenting duties. Maybe we are working from home, cooking and doing other chores, or just need a quiet break. Many of us chose to not go full screen free life, and that is okay! But as parents we do need to foster a love of learning and model for our children appropriate social interactions which can be difficult to do with screens.
In this episode I talk about 4 places that can be screen free to promote social interactions, vocabulary development, spatial awareness, and connecting with our children.
Have you ever messed up and wanted to quit something immediately? Have you ever been embarrassed by something and wanted to NEVER try it again? I don’t care how old we get, younger generations cant tell us NOTHING when it comes to technology. We saw the most drastic changes in technology in our lives. As millennials we did not grow up in an age where technology was in our face from the moment we were born. Yet we have seamlessly assimilated to a world where everything we saw our parents do the air quotes old fashioned way stop air quotes is now digital.
Well what is next for us?

Welcome to the Breakfast with Betty podcast! Since it was my first time doing this, uploading episode 1 was a little messy so this might appear out of order! In this first episode I get vulnerable in telling you why I chose to start this podcast, and what my intentions are. To be honest having my own talk show was always that dream I had as a little girl. I looked up to people like Don Fransisco, Ellen Degeneres, and Barbara Walters. I used to host a podcast with one of my dear friends, you can hear those episodes at: Dream Chasers and Change Makers. Even after we stopped recording I always thought about jumping back on the mic to host a show that would speak to my community (Latinas, millennials, moms). It took me a while to step in to that dream but here I am – doing it!

Flashbulb memories are those memories that stay in our brains and we remember them as if they happened yesterday. There are three events that I believe are flashbulb memories for us and shaped us as millennials, universally! And one event that is specific to Miami Millennials. In this episode I discuss all three and go over my experiences, the experiences of those around me, and some ways in which I think those events shaped us.
What do you remember about any of the events I mentioned? Let me know what you think over at @bettypastelitos
The majority of my content is aimed at Latinas, Millennials, and Moms. Any combination of those titles. In this episode I break down what it means to be a Latina Millennial Mom. We are parenting with such a unique point of view and I believe it is important for us to recognize that and find ways to build community with each other.
Are you a Latina, a millennial, or a mom? One, two, or three of those?! Make sure to say hi over at @bettypastelitos !
In this episode I open up about how much of an impact adults make in the lives of children. How we blindly trust those who care for us, even if they don’t know what they are saying! In my first episode I talk about how I have always wanted my own talk show. That was always my big far out there dream. Even though I had the opportunity to host a show in the past I still dreamed of getting back to it. In this episode I share the comment that was made to me once that made me feel like that dream of being a talk show host impossible, and why I chose a major which was always my "fall back on it" plan.
Find me on social @bettypastelitos and let me know if this has ever happened to you.
