This week on the show we address a few letters that have recently come into the inbox.
The first comes from a Breakfast announcer or Team that feels that they are required to fill in too many content breaks during their breakfast show. This can be a HUGE Problem when you are dealing with a Community Radio station that doesn't have the same Commercial Volume as one of the bigger radio stations. We dive into some solutions on how to fix this and A music announcer feels that with No Direction, his shift is suffering at the hands of the waffle train.
Today on the show I want to talk to you about the Content Structure!
This is so important when it comes to putting together a breakfast show or even if you are on air across the day!
I’ve heard so many announcers talking about the stations number 1 tactic and they put so much effort into their break and then it happens… they fire off a promo that’s talking about exactly the same thing! Oh there’s nothing worse! It pays to have a look at what’s going on around you – not just the little bits of content you are filling the show with.
When it comes to hosting a breakfast show though you want to make sure that you are setting up your show for success.
I remember working with a show once and when I arrived the show was back to back interviews, the announcer would go from one to another it was like listening to the ABC and even they are not that bad!
You need to make sure that there’s variety within your show. If there’s an interview at 7:10 make sure that the break after that its either a phoner with some listener involvement or a standalone piece.
Today on the show I want to talk to you about creating content within a music shift.
See it’s not just about that was this is. Being a music announcer, I often say is a lot hard then being a breakfast jock because you have to make sure you content is quick (Normally within 30 seconds) and it’s engaging. You got a huge job in that 30 seconds too. You must set up, tell us the point of the break and the most important part Creatively hook me in for the next 15 mins.
On today's Episode I thought I'd walk you through some examples with Sean Craig Murphy from SAFM in Adelaide.
Today on the show I want to talk to you about the importance of localism… now before we dive into this segment this week I want to make clear that localism isn’t just a few weather updates for your broadcast area. It’s actually so much more than that.
Localism isn’t just tagging a caller with the suburb of which they reside from.
Yeah those two tactics do play a small role in localism but it’s not going to make your show stand out from your competitors… Let’s have a look at some great tactics that are truly going to set you apart…
Today on the show I want to talk to you about thinking outside the box! I hear plenty of talk breaks these days both in the podcast and radio space and most of them leave me thinking… How forward was you thinking on that when prepping that break?
It was only recently that I tuned into a regional station, and I heard the breakfast announcer talking to a spokesperson for youth homelessness. The subject matter was relevant, and it was a really good content choice. It was a 40+ radio station and the announcer came at from the angle of parents looking out for their kids.
Here’s the thing though… The interview probably went for around 8 mins! Halfway through I remember making the comment that I’ve checked out what else is on.
Instead of talking to an expert for 8 mins around Youth Homelessness. think about this what else can you do?
Branding is making sure you know what you look like and then sending a consistent message throughout your tribe.
In this Podcast we unlock 4 Simple Rules when it comes to branding on either your Podcast or Radio show
Impostor syndrome.
It’s a very real thing that people suffer from on the daily.
You know even 25 years in radio and there are times that I suffer from impostor syndrome.
When I kick started Air Heads a little over 2 years ago I remember thinking to myself: who is going to listen to me? I haven’t scaled the Hamish and Andy heights of dominating the radio landscape nor have I achieved 10 No#1 survey results as a Content Director in Sydney or Melbourne… Geeez I remember those feelings creeping in… nearly to the point that I wasn’t even going to launch.
This episode talks about how you can combat that nasty little voice in my head kept chipping away.
Recently in our Live QnA Craig was telling us about pre-recording taking so much time out of his day and how he desires to get a little quicker when it comes to pre-recording On-Air. We talked about the importance of working live and pre-recording that was too.
