Mary welcomes back JB Hixson to talk about trends in the church that bear continual surveillance. Putting together 10 was no challenge at all. So what are we watching? Everything from the state of biblical authority to tech to self-induced isolation from each other. And when you throw in the rise of preterism and the waning of dispensationalism, that tells us an awful lot about interest in the blessed hope. Americans are unique in the world in our emphasis on independence and personal freedoms – that “personal relationship” that is not meant to be stuffed into a bottle but translate into evangelizing, fulfilling the “one anothers” and bearing each others burdens. But all too often all we are seeing is the warning that Paul gave Timothy about the last days and lovers of selfism. Choosing a church based on emotion and what’s in it for us is a community killer. And so many of these trends reflect that, the busy busy church that really doesn’t even disciple, as if being busy is the mark of a Spirit-filled congregation. And just as Paul warns us what flows from selfism is very bad, so it would seem – and a lot of it is, well, really bad. A very full hour with Pastor JB.

Stand Up welcomes back JB Hixson to talk about faith and the free exercise thereof. What begins as that which saves us opens a door to a brand new life as a new creation. As we begin this life, what is important? Faith comes by hearing so that systematic study of the Scriptures must undergird all we do as our hearts and minds are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, the same power that rose our Saviour from the grave. Walking by faith then is the workout of our lives! What does that look like? Of course, God has a different path for each of us and no one can walk that walk for us. But God’s word applies to ALL of us! What a glorious operating manual for all things pertaining to life and godliness. All means all here, we can assume that. So as we move forward, what are some of the things that might challenge our faith, make it like gold tried in the furnace? When things don’t make sense, when our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling, when people hurt us or betray us or when tragedy strikes, what is our response? Does the response change from year to year as we move forward in Christ? Growing beyond our circumstances prepares us for eternity. Life is hard and full of challenges but faith, along with hope and love, remain. An encouraging hour with Pastor JB.

Who was Solomon and what were some of his ups and downs, the lessons he gained? We will look at the themes, the wisdom, and some of the pivotal verses. As much as Ecclesiastes can send a chill wind through our bones, Solomon’s directness and honest exhortations are really what the church needs more of in these wishy washy times.

If doctrine is simply defined as instruction, and in the last days Paul tells us that people will have no taste for it (“will not endure…”) then what does that say about the church in these times? That church-goers will not be teachable. And that is very true unfortunately; deriding doctrine is the skill of cults and false systems. Sad to say, if a person believes they are in the faith but refuses the truth of non-negotiable doctrine, there is no good news for them. We will talk about the divisive nature of truth as found in doctrine, and we also look at doctrines of devils; also how sound doctrine unites true believers. Mary Danielsen chats with Bub Kuns of Reasons for Hope, co-creator of their popular “Debunked” series of videos. Today we talk about faith – what it is, what it isn’t, and more importantly, what is the object of said faith. Our vacuous culture wants us to believe in such things as blind faith, leaps of faith, and tells us to “just have faith” – meaning the cosmos owes it to us, that no matter what has gone south in our lives, that things will just magically “work out”. Of course as believers we know that Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith, therefore a sovereign God is working things out for our good. This is dimensions and light years different than empty platitudes that offer nothing more than positive thinking exercises to those with no faith. We talk to Bub about the Word Faith movement and how dangerous that is, and dive into the content of the Debunked video series and how it enables the viewer to boldly stand on God’s Word.

Mason’s View: There is no exclusivity in Jesus Christ or the Triune God who is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; therefore there is no doctrine of the deity of Jesus Christ. It is deemed to be un-Masonic to invoke the name of Jesus when praying, or mention His name in the Lodge. Suggesting that Jesus is the only way to God contradicts the principle of tolerance. The name of Jesus has been omitted from biblical verses that are used in Masonic rituals. Jesus, to them, is on the same level as other religious leaders.

In what we call the Great Commission, Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples and teach them everything He commanded. Doctrine ('doctrina,' Lat.) simply means "teaching." In Acts chapter 2, the foundation of the early church was the teaching of those apostles. Without a solid foundation of accurate biblical doctrine, a church becomes nothing more than a social club.
But doctrine has almost become a bad word in a growing number of churches, as if doctrine is automatically "divisive" and "unloving." In reality, biblical doctrine is the foundation for Christian unity and love. Pastor Randy White joins Mike and David to discuss the importance of teaching sound biblical doctrine.

In Colossians 3:3-4 Paul says "For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life appears, then you will appear with him in glory". Being a former atheist, Vos quickly learned at college that most Christian students could not explain why they believed what they believe. He tried Buddhism, became a Wiccan, and even explored Hare Krishna before coming to faith in Jesus Christ.
He then realized how important and vital it was for Christians to not only share the gospel, but to disciple and prepare young people for the hostility toward Christianity on most college campuses. The world offers lots of so-called solutions that it claims will maintain good spiritual and emotional health. From drugs to Psychotherapy to Humanist Psychology, the world has no shortage of suggested answers to the problems of life that affect us all. In a world where respectful dialogue is being replaced with impatience, anger, self-righteousness, and even hate, it is vital that Christians not get caught up in all the uproar.
We ought not look to the ways of this world for answers. Instead we look to the Word of God and its timeless wisdom. That being said, many of us get caught up with disagreements or debates on social media which add to our actual concerns and priorities. We discuss these challenges today.

Founding and Senior Pastor Bill Hybels has announced his retirement effective October, 2018. He will remain as "founding pastor" and oversee the expansion of Willow Creek's Association that provides services and resources to churches and also the Willow Creek Leadership Summit.
Hybels and Willow Creek are no strangers to controversy. The WC Leadership Summit has elevated people like Bill Clinton, Rob Bell and several corporation executives as "leaders to emulate" even though many of them are not even Christians and support homosexual marriage and abortion. Some people believe this is incorporating the ways of the world into the church.
His wife Lynne openly opposes the nation of Israel through "Christ at the Checkpoint," criticizing Israel while giving a pass to the terrorist organizations who kill in the name of Allah. In typical controversial fashion, Hybels is going out with a bang: he has named Heather Larsen his successor to the lead pastor position having the title of Executive Pastor.

Satan's bag of tricks are not all that extensive. He usually sticks to the same tactic because it works. What should committed disciples of Jesus Christ expect out of this life? Well, these days that often depends on which Christian teacher you follow.
