  • First i think we need to understand the definition of fear
  • definition of fear on Google: an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat
  • when we think about the fear that should trigger a response in our brain to know that there is a lie you are believing that is causing that fear and getting to the root of the lie and ask god “What do you want me to know about x” so he can reveal where this lie and fear came from
  • the lord tells us “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬
  • So if we have a perfect God who tells us that He casts all fear out then why is fear such a common thing?

  • like as Christians how can we stop running from fear and find freedom from fear?

  • We protect ourselves from situations in which the lord really could move in

  • We live a life of self-protection and self-promotion
  • We don’t live a life of “where you lead i will follow” because we are fearful
  • Nothing can separate us from Christ Jesus
  • Fear is a gift and makes you alert. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
  • the fear that is self-protection… god tells us not to be afraid because fear now makes of decisions
  • As soon as we address the fear it disappears
  • When we ask god what he wants us to know it gives us knowledge which gives us peace when we know things and eliminates the fear
  • When something isn’t going our way we need to ask God “what he wants us to know”
  • asking god why there could be so many explanations but god will always ask what he wants us to know
  • Fear prevents you from confronting god
  • Fear points to the lie!!!!
  • Fear is the way the enemy prevents us from experiencing God
  • We are scared and fearful of what God might do and we need to let go of that fear
  • God is constantly inviting us into our fear so we can walk us through the other side
  • We need to let God have our fear
  • All conflict is sourced in fear

  • We make permanent decisions in a temporary season … out of fear

  • Matthew 7:21 Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

  • Matthew 13:49-50 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
  • There are two kinds of people. The people will be gnashing their teeth because they are angry with God’s judgment, and there will be those who are weeping because they thought they would be included in the glory

- He wants to convince our society that God doesn't exist

What do you do when a dating relationship ends (not because of a lack of love or lack of wanting to be together, but because you are pushing each other towards God’s plan instead of your own)

  • You trust God and you move forward. You try to heal and you pray for the Lord to use the ending of that relationship to glorify Him and reveal to you valuable lessons.
  • Take time to reach closure for the relationship. You have to be able to be comfortable with the person, especially if you are both believers you are brother and sister in Jesus. That's why it's so important how you date and pursue purity because you aren't each other's spouse yet and if you go tying yourself to that person without a covenant involved, once a breakup comes it gets really messy, and its hard because you're breaking soul ties.
  • Singleness is a gift according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 7:6-9 I say this as a concession, not as a command. 7 I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. 8 Now to the unmarried[a] and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
  • In singleness, it is much easier to pursue your own callings because you aren't concerned with the welfare of someone else.

What do you do with toxic friendships?

  • Step 1. You need to identify that it's a toxic friendship. Some characteristics of identifying whether a friendship is toxic are
  • Manipulation
  • Lying
  • Gossiping with or about you

  • This isn't all-encompassing but it's a few qualities

  • Step 2. Pray and ask the lord for clarity, wisdom, and discernment on the situation. Open your bible and see what the lord has to say. God speaks primarily through the bible which is readily available to anyone in the US, its an app.

  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  • Step 3. Ask wisdom from an older and wiser person, preferably one that is disciplining you already and knows your heart and it is a safe space for you to talk with them about it in a way that isn't gossip but genuinely seeking biblical council.

  • Step 4. Look at it as a ministry opportunity to show Christ and his love. If you feel like you are being led to have a conversation with that person, do it in a way that Jesus would.
  • Matthew 5:39-40 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

  • Continue to pray as you navigate it. Have the perspective that you are saved and free in Christ and anyone who is toxic is probably struggling with sin or maybe they aren't saved at all. You should pity them more than you should be angry with them. Allow your heart to break over sin so it forces your actions to be from a place of love for people who probably really need it.

  • Step 5. Forgive them and begin praying for your heart and theirs.

the loss of a relationship?

  • Since we covered the ending of a dating relationship we will take this more in the direction of a friendship or maybe a family member. First,a we just want to reiterate if we haven't already how difficult all of this is. Nothing about losing any kind of relationship is easy but we live in a fallen and broken world and unfortunately, this is part of it, even in Christian community there will be a loss of relationships sometimes, even though we strive for that to never be the case.
  • Lamentations 3:13-15 He pierced my heart with arrows from his quiver.14 I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long.15 He has filled me with bitter herbs and given me gall to drink.

  1. The bible is the divine word of God from God Himself written through people
  2. 2 tim 3:16 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work.

  3. This is done through the inspiration of the holy spirit, but what does this practically mean and how can I understand it from a secular worldview?

  4. The bible is a reliable historical document that was written by eyewitnesses during the lifetimes of other eyewitnesses in reference to the fulfillment of specific prophecies claiming the divinity of the events that occurred.

  5. The bible has not been translated thousands of times. We have access to COMPLETE New testaments from as early as the 4th Century AD, so when people translate a new version of the bible what they do is go back to the original texts from the 4th century or earlier, and not to the most recent english translation (this is a common misunderstanding for people who do not follow Jesus)
  6. The early church fathers referenced the epistles in their own works from the first century AD, and through their commentaries we can piece together 95% of the whole new testament.
  7. Do you believe that Homer wrote the iliad and the odyssey? The earliest copies of these works were uncovered over 1000 years after homers death. Do you believe in the battle of Troy? Homer wrote that story over 600 years after the battle even happened. How could we consider this historical evidence for the existence of Homer or the battle of TROY, but not consider Christ as historically reliable when authors began writing about him within 30 years of his life?

  8. Flavius Josephus (JEWISH historian even references Jesus

  9. 4 gospels by 4 authors telling the same story

  10. Matthew, mark, luke and john all friends and disciples of jesus but they never knew what the other was going to write yet all the gospels tell the same stories of jesus and his life.

  11. 65000 cross references from 44 different authors

  12. Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies from the Old Testament (48 Specific messianic prophecies). Mathmetician Peter stoner concluded that the odds of this were .000(add154 more zeroes) then a 1.
  13. So we are confident that the Scriptures are indeed God’s inspired word because of the Historical reliability and the fulfillment of the scriptures themselves which mathematically is next to impossible unless Jesus was the true Messiah. And if Jesus is the Messiah then we believe his words to be true, and if his words are true then the whole bible must be true.

WHAT DOES THE WORLD SAY

SHORT ANSWER: WE ARE HERE TO GLORIFY GOD, MAKE HIS NAME KNOWN, and live in communion with him.

glorify: According to Lifeway, The verb glorify means “to give weight to” or “to honor.” Thus, to glorify God is to recognize God for who He really is and to respond appropriately.

  • 1 peter 4:10-13 “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever.”

Make his name known: The last commandment after Jesus’ resurrection from the grave that he gave to his disciples was

Living in Communion with God

What does having a dream house mean from a biblical perspective?

  • Dream=Desires
  • It’s not a need, and not what you currently have
  • Different kinds of dreams
    • Selfish dreams vs servant dreams
    • Only one of those points to Jesus
    • Dreaming to be a doctor can be both a selfish and servant dream, it depends on your heart and your intentions for the dream.

How does American culture view dreams?

  • We should dream big and have a lot of aspirations.
  • Have huge desires for yourself and your life. It teaches us not to be content with where we’re at and to enjoy the life we have been given.
  • If you die today, could you say that you were content with what you had? If you can’t, it would be a much bigger tragedy than someone who is happy with their life

What does God’s word say about having dreams/desires such as a dream house

  • 1 John 2:15-17 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
  • Matthew 6:19-21” Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
    • Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'"
  • Luke 18:18-30 Rich young ruler

Who is God?

  • God is the perfect creator of the universe (Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (ESV))
  • God is faithful to keep his promises and he does not change Malachi 3:6 I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed)
  • God is Holy(Isaiah 6:3 Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole earth is filled with his glory)
  • God is good(Psalm 34:8 Oh taste and see that the LORD is good)
  • God is both perfectly Merciful and perfectly just(Exodus 34:6-7 The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for the thousands forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty)

Who is Man?

  • Sin = missing the mark, not just our own mark but God himself mark
  • Not a single person has lived in a way that merits heaven (Matthew 5:48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Psalm 53:3 there is none who does good not even one)

What has Christ done?

  • Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
  • Romans 3:22-23 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
  • when Jesus was on the cross he literally cried out to God because he was bearing the full wrath of God while simultaneously carrying every persons past, present, and future sin
    • Psalm 22 “my God my God why have you forsaken me”
  • JESUS HAS RISEN

What is our response?

  • Repent
  • Believe in Jesus Christ as Lord
  • Trust in Him every day and take up your cross
  • It is NOT a one-time prayer, but a daily choice
  • Matthew 5:18-19 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.19Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven
  • WE ARE TO KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS THIS HIS A HUGE PART OF FOLLOWING JESUS because one of our greatest witnesses to others is how we live our lives, and if we don’t keep his commands then others will not see any reason for believing in the gospel themselves

The Christian life follows

  • Justification is when Jesus bore the weight of your sin under the wrath of God to make you right with God
    • Sanctification is the gradual process of living a life that closer and closer resembles the life of Jesus
    • Glorification on the day Jesus returns to be in God’s presence as he originally had intended us to be and for our world to be cleansed from sin

OUR RESPONSE OF THE GOSPEL SHOULD BE PURE JOY

  • THAT GOD WOULD DIE FOR US AND BE RAISED FROM THE DEAD TO SAVE US
  • That is why when Paul expects Galatian believers to exhibit the fruits of the spirit (that is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) because when we preach ourselves the good news every day we see that no matter what circumstance we always have reason to rejoice

  4. Matthew 9:10 “10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

    • We are called in the great commission at the end of Matthew 28 to go and make disciples of all nations and share the gospel with every type of person that doesn't yet know him, so why would we want to exclude ourselves?

  5. When looking at Jesus’ life, we can see that he was constantly around people who maybe didn’t know or believe in him. In the workplace this is similar, and as a teacher, there’s a good chance you’re around a lot of kids who don’t know Jesus. How do you feel like you can show Jesus to people in the workplace when you aren’t working in a Christian workplace?

    • This isn't easy though,
    • Jesus paid for my sin and resurrecting, setting me right forever with my heavenly father determines my joy because that is where my fulfillment is in.

  7. What the bible says about work:

  8. Colossians 3:23 “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”

  9. Ephesians 6:6 “Work hard, but not just to please your masters when they are watching. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”
  10. As a Chrisitan do you feel like there are some different considerations that go into a job when looking for jobs or places to work?
  11. we should always look at the character of people (if possible) who are in that workplace but also that shouldn't necessarily be something that distracts you because we are called to be a light to those people who are in the darkness.

  4. Trying to get an understanding of the Bible as a whole so when you read you know what part of the story that fits in to

  5. I have always heard and used the phrase “Quiet Time”. Is this the same thing as reading the Bible or what exactly is a “Quiet Time” and what does that look like?

  6. Praying, reading, and praying is the model that Maddie uses

  7. QTs are different from person to person but they consist of you + Jesus just growing in intimacy

  8. How do you effectively read the bible and get the most out of it?

  9. Are there specific resources you use that help you do this such as apps, books, or devotionals?

  10. Bible project videos are really great to overview each book of the bible and they even have different reading plans

  11. Literal word app to look at the original word for the greek or Hebrew version of the word

  12. What would you say to a beginner or maybe someone who has never really read the bible or had QTs and possibly struggles to just open it up and read?

  13. Be patient with yourself but also be proud and give yourself credit because you are just learning and trying to understand the character of God

  14. What about the person who has read for a while and maybe followed Jesus for a longer time? How can they more effectively read the bible so they are growing in intimacy with God?

  15. Be wary of not being prideful or pushing off the word of God thinking you already know it all, we are called to be a student of the word and be constantly growing in God.

On this week's episode, we interview our host's hubby, Mr. Michael Monk. He shares his story of faith coming to know Jesus and how that has led him to a place of repentance. Michael also shares about sin and what The Bible and God reveal about how to combat sin. -Sin is the act of trying to place ourselves into a position that is equal to or above God which is rooted in our own pride

  • Although sin is manifested in actions, it begins and holds just as much weight in your heart.

  • What does the bible say about our sinful nature?

  • 1 Chor. 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it."

  • How do we combat our sin and sinful desires?

  • Understand the consequences of sin to understand that we cannot overcome it on our own

  • Heaven by definition is flawless, so how can we who are flawed, sinful, and evil enter? IT IS ONLY BY GRACE THAT WE HAVE BEEN SAVED. No work done by us or on our part could ever be enough. Jesus is the only thing that is and will ever be enough.

We were joined by Katie-Beth Craig on this week‘s episode of The WoW Podcast, and she shares her wisdom about resting in Jesus to prioritize her health holistically. She tells us about her life of dancing to life in Jesus and shares how the Lord has shaped her view of herself.

  1. What is one piece of advice you would tell the younger you?

  2. Tell us a little bit about you and how your story pushed you to know Jesus and the rest and healing that he can provide for us?

  3. Grew up dancing and loving to be active- loved it but very hard on body image, frequent criticisms of the body and learned to love my body for what it could do for me, and fueled it to do that. Didn’t prioritize my mental health and sleep because that did not directly benefit my goals. I struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember.

  4. Anxiety and using food as a control- food as an idol versus food as a gift. Compared to others and believed I did not have unhealthy habits.

  5. What does it mean to treat your body as a temple, as Jesus commands us to do?

  6. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV), Paul asks, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

  7. -Hating my body doesn’t change my body.

  8. Matthew 6:25 Jesus is talking and says “Therefore I tell you, do no worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food, and the body more than clothes? And he goes on to say in verse 26 “look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

  9. Knowing the Gospel and how Jesus Christ dying on the cross has set you free, restored you, and redeemed you- how has this taught you to pursue holistic health?

  10. -Seeing myself as what I am- bought with the blood of Christ and a daughter of God- I stopped trying to change my body and started to change my perspective on how I see my body as it already is- and that changed everything. Truth cards and writing on hands and mirror, tips for body image struggles.

  11. -When we led God-centered living that permeates every aspect of our day-to-day lives, including our physical health, our friends and family will get to see a glimpse of Jesus when they look at our lives. The ministry I see in how we live out wellness in our everyday

  12. -Taking a quick walk, learning breathing exercises, stretching in the morning, organizing my space, healthy ways to manage fitness progress- could discuss practical tips that relate to food and health

  13. With all that you have talked about, what does it practically look like to rest in Jesus and allow that to push you to pursue and prioritize your health holistically?

  14. Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

  15. Anytime that rest is mentioned i also just think of psalm 23 and how David talks about the lord being our shepherd and he makes us lie down in green pastures and leads us to quiet water and how God refreshes our souls. Then the psalm goes on to say even though i walk through the dark valley i will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

  2. What is friendship and what is community? How do they differ? How are they similar?

  3. Friendship definition: a relationship of mutual affection between people. It is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an "acquaintance" or an "association", such as a classmate, neighbor, coworker, or colleague

  4. Community definition: a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common

  5. These can be interchangeable because what matter is that you have the inside- deep people that are pointing you to Jesus.

  6. When the bible talks about friendship what does that mean? Is it the same thing as what the church calls community?

  7. Proverbs 12:36 “The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray”

  8. Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”

  9. 1 Chor. 15:33 “Do not be mislead: “Bad company corrupts good character”

  10. Putting what the Bible says about friendship into action, what does creating friends and community look like in our daily lives?

  11. Meet regularly!

    • Hebrews 10:25 “and let us consider how we may spur one another toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching”

  5. John 14:26 The Holy Spirit is referred to as an “advocate whom the father will send in my name, [and how it] will teach you all thing and remind you of everything I have said to you” This is Jesus talking here about the Holy Spirit and what the purpose of the spirit is for believers

  7. How do you get the Holy Spirit?

  8. Peter has a really great and clear way of stating this in Acts 2:38 when he is talking to a crowd in Jerusalem, he says “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”

    • This shows that the Holy Spirit is a gift, going off of last week we talked about how salvation is a gift, that's what Romans 6:23 says and a gift it is freely given, it isn't earned by being a good person or by good works so just like salvation, the Holy Spirit is a byproduct of salvation, it is a gift God gives to us here on Earth that we have and we did nothing to earn.

  9. Luke 11:13 also talks about this and it says that “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

    • Again we see here that it is freely given if we just ask God.

  10. What are the attributes of the Holy Spirit?

  11. It is an advocate for us

  12. Romans 8:26 says that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness. [and how] we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans”.
    • So it helps us pray to God on our behalf of us

  13. 2 chor. 3:17 “ now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom”

    • This is one of my favorite songs and so powerful to think about but it is so true- the Spirit is FREEDOM.

  14. How can we properly utilize the Holy Spirit to grow in intimacy with God even in our normal, everyday lives?

  16. Remembering The Lord’s faithfulness to use the Spirit in our lives
