No-nonsense, practical tools to help you show up confidently as a woman in an industry built for men. Overcome self-doubt and overwhelm to gain clarity and a clear plan so you can unapologetically create a career and life you love.
What leadership shadow are you casting on your team?
Are you even aware of the tone you’re setting in the workplace, and how it might be affecting the organisation?
As leaders, we really do have the power to create a positive work environment - as well as a toxic one. However, we often don’t realise just how impactful our habits, actions and overall leadership style can be on those around us.
By understanding what your leadership shadow is, you can begin to intentionally create one that aligns with who you want to be and how you want to influence others in your team, organisation and in your industry.
So, what is a leadership shadow?
Essentially, it's how a leader's behaviours, actions and decisions cast a shadow over their team, which ultimately influences organisational culture and performance. Our shadows often have both positives and negatives and because we’re in the middle, we don't necessarily see the amount of influence and impact we have.
Today, we'll explore developing an awareness around what our leadership shadow is and how to use it to create a strong, cohesive and high-functioning team.
The concept of a leadership shadow was developed by Pine Street, part of Goldman Sachs's leadership development team, and it comprises four key elements: what I say, how I act, what I prioritise and how I measure.
We’ll also explore three key components from a practical standpoint:
Role Modelling
Behavioural Impact
Communication Styles
Intentional cultivation of a positive leadership shadow starts with self-awareness and reflection. Although developing self-awareness is challenging, it can be achieved through self-reflection, feedback, assessments and regular check-ins.
So, what does your leadership shadow look like right now? What are its positive and negative aspects? I encourage you to seek feedback from those around you to gain insights you may not see.
Remember, we are all a work in progress. Being transparent about your journey fosters support and encourages others to think about their own leadership shadow. When everyone is aligned and working towards the same goal, that's when we see incredibly strong leaders and cultures that achieve sustained results.

Have you ever felt trapped by your own high standards, constantly striving for flawless performance but finding yourself exhausted and unfulfilled? You're not alone. Many women working in male-dominated fields like property and construction grapple with the relentless pursuit of perfection.
That’s why I want to break down what perfectionism is, what it isn’t, and the grim consequences it can have. Don’t worry though, I’ll also be sharing three practical tips to help you break free from its grasp.
What Is Perfectionism?
Perfectionism is the tendency to set excessively high standards for oneself and to strive for flawless work. This goes hand in hand with critical self-evaluation and a constant concern about others' opinions. In our professional realms, this often manifests in over-preparing and an extreme attention to detail, which can drive dissatisfaction and burnout.
The implications of perfectionism are extensive. It keeps us entrenched in procrastination, avoiding risks, and staying within our comfort zones. This impasse limits our potential and opportunities—straining not just our stress levels but also our relationships and overall productivity. Speaking from personal experience as a recovering perfectionist, I know how easy it is to spend too much time planning and to hesitate in delegating tasks—a habit that ultimately stunts our growth.
So, how can we move away from this perfectionist mindset and start taking more impactful action? Here are three tips to help you break free from perfectionism:
1. Focus on High-Value Work
Shift your focus to high-value tasks—those that are critical to your role and cannot be delegated. Eliminate tasks that don't add value, and delegate where possible. For example, while preparing a presentation, you might focus on crafting the key messages and desired outcomes, while a junior team member handles formatting.
2. Set Boundaries Around Time and Effort
Planning and adhering to time constraints is essential. According to Parkinson's Law, work expands to fill the time allocated to it. Therefore, setting definite time limits for tasks can prevent perfectionist tendencies from taking over. You’ll also need to accept that not everything has to meet an A+ standard; sometimes B or B- work is perfectly adequate.
3. Practise a Growth Mindset
Our careers are a journey, and every day we have opportunities to improve. Embrace feedback, review what worked and what didn’t, and make necessary adjustments. Show up intentionally with a growth mindset, understanding that discomfort is part of the process, but it will lead to exponential career growth and fulfilment.
I know letting go of perfectionism isn’t as easy as I’ve made it sound. It’s difficult and uncomfortable - trust me, I've been there. But once you start releasing the need for everything to be perfect, you'll find you have so much more time and energy for the stuff that really matters.

When I first started navigating my career, I was like many others—relying heavily on the support and guidance of those closest to me. My immediate circle of friends, family, and colleagues played a crucial role in my development.
But as I ventured further into my career, I realised something unexpected: the people who know us best, while loving and supportive, often limit us with their perceptions of who we've been, rather than who we can become.
We all have those moments where we yearn to break free from our comfort zones. Whether it’s nominating ourselves for that prestigious award, vying for a major promotion, or pivoting to a completely new career path, it’s these critical junctures that require us to look beyond our immediate circle. In today's episode, I break down the differences between close and loose connections.
At the end of the day, the journey to a successful and fulfilling career is not just about what you know but also about who you know. And sometimes, it’s the looser connections that make all the difference. They bring fresh perspectives and new opportunities that your close connections, for all their love and support, might inadvertently shield you from.

I see it time and time again.
Women who are passionate, driven, and ready to make a significant impact in their careers often find themselves at a crossroads. They aspire to have fulfilling and rewarding careers, yet when asked what exactly they want or what their focus is, they draw a blank.
The advice I give my clients is to know your focus. Simplify your focus so you can amplify your results. This clarity is the key to having a remarkable and successful career. I usually ask my clients one crucial question: "What do you want to be known for?" Most people have never stopped to really think about this. They don’t know what they’re great at, what they do better than others, or what unique value they bring that sets them apart.
When we step into the workforce, we aim to check all the boxes, proving our capability and building the necessary skillset and knowledge for our profession. While this approach secures us a job, it doesn't necessarily open doors or make us stand out.
It's particularly important to know your focus as you advance in your career, especially after the initial five to ten years when you start stepping into more significant roles. By intentionally deciding what you want to be known for and channelling your energy toward it, you can distinguish yourself and be recognised.
Embracing this clarity can be uncomfortable because it demands stepping out of our comfort zones, taking risks, and facing fears of failure and embarrassment. Our brains resist simplifying our focus, distracting us with the potential for immediate gratification from tasks we already know how to do.
Take a project manager. One who is good at their job ticks all the boxes and can be relied upon. But a project manager with exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder relationship skills? They stand out. People say, "Put them in a room with anyone, and they'll manage the situation and create a positive outcome, even amid conflict."
Simply put, being good is not enough. You want to be known for something specific. This requires intention and focus, which extends beyond merely doing your job—it’s about developing a personal brand and skillset that makes you a go-to person in your industry.
If you’re feeling stuck or unsure about your next career move, I encourage you to get clear on your focus. Remember, there are no absolute right or wrong career decisions, only different paths. Your focus might change over time, and that’s okay. What’s important is having that clarity now to shift your trajectory and aim higher.

Do you ever find yourself waiting for someone else to recognise your potential before you take the next big step in your career? You're not alone. Waiting for external validation is the biggest thing I see holding women back in their careers, and it’s understandable.
It feels good to have someone acknowledge our achievements, and we feel safer with a pat on the back or words of encouragement. However, if we’re looking to others for permission, we end up playing small. Not only will it be difficult to progress, but it can cause frustration, dissatisfaction in our work, and even resentment towards colleagues and superiors.
Imagine that a job is posted within your organisation for your dream role, but no one has approached you about it. You could take this to mean you aren’t good enough for the role. This feeling of inadequacy might cause you not to apply for the job, or to apply half-heartedly.
On the other hand, if you focus on your excitement about the opportunity, you’re more likely to put in 100%. You’ll have the energy to prepare a great application, ask questions, and connect with the decision-makers. Even if you don’t land the job, you’ll have made a lot of progress in this process.
Now we know the statistics: women make up only 12.5% of the property and construction workforce, and women in trades are a mere 3.5%. To truly increase women’s participation in our industry, we need to stop waiting for positions of power and instead take the initiative to advocate for ourselves.
Yes, this is hard, but no one else is going to do it for us. We need to take ownership of our lives and careers to move them forward in line with our goals. Many women find this challenging because we are often taught to put others’ needs before our own. But, if we want to step into our full potential, we need to give ourselves permission to succeed without looking for external validation.
So, think about what it will take for you to step up and lead in your career, life, and organisation. Reflect on what you need to believe about your abilities and the obstacles in your path. I support women every day in facing these challenges, so I know it’s possible for you too. If you need support, feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn. I’m excited to see what you can achieve when you stop waiting for permission.

I speak to women all the time who feel stuck in their careers. They dream of making a big impact in the world and achieving great things, but they don't know how to move forward. If you can relate to this feeling, stay tuned because today I’m sharing how to take those significant leaps and move the needle forward so you can realise that rewarding and fulfilling career you've always dreamt of. First, I want to highlight the three main reasons why I see women feeling stuck in their careers:
1. Ambition Without Direction: Many of you have grand career aspirations and want to make an impact, but you aren’t sure how to get there. Without a clear roadmap, the journey can seem daunting and unachievable, so it’s easier to just stay put.
Self-Doubt and Lack of Motivation: Some women get stuck in their careers because they feel unmotivated, undervalued, and unsure of themselves. This self-doubt, and maybe even imposter syndrome, doesn’t just impact your work but all areas of your life.
Work-Life Imbalance: Taking on too many commitments or chronically working long hours will take a toll on your health and your relationships. You end up depleted, with no time or energy for things outside of work.
These issues are even more prevalent for women working in male-dominated industries like property. Not only do women have to overcome significant biases in the workplace, but they are also often held to a higher standard than their male counterparts. This frustrating environment leads to burnout and is the reason many women leave for other industries.
But it’s essential to remember that change will come if more women stay in the industry, rise through the ranks, and become the role models they didn’t have. I know it’s a tall order, but by showing up and contributing to this change, we can also achieve the fulfilling careers we dream of.
So, how do we do that? The key is to create a strategic, career plan and that means stepping back to think about your career from a broad, long-term perspective.
1. Develop a roadmap that integrates your career goals, personal values, and desired lifestyle.
2. Develop the ability to seize opportunities in real-time, and stay committed to continuous learning, and personal growth.
3. Identify what you are good at and where you need improvement.
4. Build a network that surrounds you with people who support your goals.
A strategic career plan is different from a short-term career or development plan. While short-term plans focus on specific milestones, a strategic plan sets long-term goals and creates a vision for your future. Think about what you want to achieve in your career over the next 10 or 20 years. Focus on your values and create systems to support them. Define what meaningful action looks like for you and take steps to align your efforts with your long-term goals.
If you need help getting started with your strategic career plan, reach out to me on LinkedIn. I’m happy to give pointers and get those creative juices flowing. You've got this, my friend. Enjoy the process, and I look forward to seeing you thrive.

Recently at bootcamp, I had the chance to celebrate with my trainer, Justin, who has been in the personal training business for 14 years. That's no small feat given that most businesses don't make it past their fourth year. Additionally, surviving through COVID-19 and maintaining a loyal client base is remarkable.
So I asked Justin about the keys to his success, and his response was golden: “Don't let the highs get too high, and don't let the lows get too low." I think this is great advice, knowing from personal experience how easy it is to fall prey to emotions when things aren’t going well.
Justin also pointed me towards Roger Federer’s Dartmouth speech, where he speaks perfectly to the idea that consistency, persistence and resilience are key to enduring success.
Today, I’m talking about the invaluable lessons learnt from Federer’s speech and how we can implement these essential aspects in our careers and personal lives to reach the excellence we desire.
We’ll explore how ‘effortlessness’ is a myth that can be detrimental to our growth, and the reality of practice and commitment being the foundations of becoming who we aspire to be.
We live in a society that craves instant gratification, but true excellence requires embracing the grind. It's about doing the boring, tedious tasks each day, and being okay with the awkwardness and discomfort that come with growth. Just as a pianist can't perform a concerto without years of practice, we can't excel without putting in the time and effort to hone our skills.
When we let go of the unrealistic expectation to be perfect and instead focus on showing up and improving incrementally, we make significant strides toward our goals. Life, whether it's balancing work and family or aiming for professional excellence, is a journey filled with failures and successes. Embracing this process frees us to enjoy the moment and commit to continuous growth.
So, take time to reflect on what you want to achieve, why it matters and make the commitment to persistently show up for yourself. This will not only improve your life, but the lives of those around you.
Your voice and impact as a leader are needed in the world. Why shouldn't it be you?

Imagine standing out in your field, not just as another competent professional, but as an undeniable force that cannot be ignored. Today, I want to share the secret behind making that leap. Whether you’re navigating a career shift, striving for leadership, or simply pushing the boundaries of your personal growth, this is your blueprint for greatness. So, buckle up—because we're about to embark on a journey from good to great, uncovering what it really takes to be exceptional.
To be exceptional, we need to take control of how we show up and the standards we set for ourselves. There’s a saying I love: "Be so good that they can't ignore you." It places the power back in our hands, allowing us to decide our paths and the heights we wish to reach.
Of course, a crucial part of this is visibility. Especially as women, we need to proudly claim our achievements and own our accomplishments. Otherwise, we can fade into the background and become a stepping stone for other people to reach their goals.
Another important lesson is to stop waiting for permission. Exceptional people don’t wait to be asked; they step into roles and drive impact because they can and because they want to. If you’re here, reading this, I imagine you’re one of those driven individuals.
So how do we break through the barrier of being just good to step into greatness and exceptionalism?
The first part of this journey is recognising where we are at this moment. This involves understanding our strengths and recognising our weaknesses from both our perspective and the feedback of others. This can feel daunting, but it’s necessary. Most people go through life with blinkers, preferring not to face harsh realities. But true greatness comes from taking the good, the bad, and the ugly and using it to fuel forward progress.
Being exceptional isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about showing up every day, regardless of how you feel and consistently putting in the effort to improve by even just 1%. This incremental improvement compounds over time and leads to significant progress.
One strategy I’ve embraced is Alex Hormozi’s rule of 100. Spend a hundred minutes each day or perform a hundred actions that target a key area for improvement. For example, if you aim to build your network, reach out to 100 people daily. I know it sounds intense, but this commitment to repetition is what drives excellence.
For me, I made a commitment to wake up at 5:15 am every day to exercise. It was difficult to begin with but now that I’ve been going for months it’s become a normal part of my routine. Seeing the progress, I’m making and enjoying the benefits of this change has made it easier and more joyful
So, what is the one thing you need to focus on to move the needle in your career? Is it a habit, a behaviour, or a skill you need to develop? I’d love to hear what your focus will be, so drop me a note on LinkedIn. I’ll be there cheering you on, knowing that with focus and commitment, you will be exceptional.

Despite being highly competent, women in leadership often encounter unique challenges that can stymie their professional growth. These habits, which might have served us well early in our careers, can actually become corrosive once we get to a certain point. They can derail us from taking that next step and being the impactful leader we really want to be.
Today, I’m doing something a little bit different and reviewing a book that left such an impression on me that I believe every woman who leads in a male-dominated industry should read.
How Women Rise: Break the 12 Habits Holding You Back from Your Next Raise, Promotion, or Job by Marshall Goldsmith and Sally Helgeson identifies 12 habits that could be holding women back in their careers, and I just know that you will resonate with at least one or two of these habits as we go through them.
Not only is it important to identify areas that are keeping us from our true potential, we need to take action to combat them and create new ones.
I’ll take you through the following key habits that may be holding you back, and some practical strategies to help you propel your career to the next level:
Reluctance to Claim Your Achievements
Expecting Others to Notice and Reward You
Overvaluing Expertise
Building Rather Than Leveraging Relationships
Failing to Enlist Allies
Putting Your Job Before Your Career
The Perfection Trap
The Disease to Please
Minimising Yourself
Being Too Much
Rumination
Letting Your Radar Distract You
As we talk through each habit, I want you to take note of which ones are keeping you stuck, and how you might take action to break them. Whether it’s working with a coach like me or talking to a colleague who can help, take practical steps to create new ways in which you approach your career in leadership.
Remember, we all struggle with habits that negatively affect us from time to time. It’s what we choose to do to move ourselves forward that matters most.

Imposter syndrome is real, but I often hear my clients stand behind imposter syndrome as a catch-all explanation for why things feel difficult.
It’s when we dig a little deeper that we often find it’s not imposter syndrome at all - it’s that we aren't properly prepared or really doing what it takes to create the results we want.
This topic comes on the back of a number of conversations I've had with my clients recently. I want to say at the outset, these are all incredible women who are doing important work within the industry.
But time and time again, I see people confusing imposter syndrome for simply being underprepared. So how do you know whether you’re experiencing genuine imposter syndrome, or if you’re underprepared for the task at hand?
In this episode, we’ll talk about what imposter syndrome really is, how to become more organised in your day-to-day life, and the necessary steps to transform your mindset into one of self-belief and confidence.
It’s important to acknowledge that there will be a varying degree of self-doubt any time we’re pursuing our goals or stepping beyond our comfort zone. However, it's crucial to distinguish between healthy self-doubt that keeps us striving for excellence, and the paralysing fear that comes from feeling unprepared.
Now, I get it - we’re all busy, and it’s not always possible for things to go according to plan. But the truth is, we control what we do and how we show up. It’s only when we take ownership of our own preparation - or lack thereof - that we can really start to change our mindset to one of self-belief and confidence. What’s important is to make sure you have done everything you could possibly do to set yourself up for success.
If you find yourself constantly battling with feelings of inadequacy, this episode offers a new way to look at things that will empower you to tackle challenges head-on. By shifting our focus from battling imposter syndrome to enhancing our preparedness, we can unlock new levels of confidence and career satisfaction.

No one likes to hear this, but it's true: the biggest barrier to your success is you.
Admitting and accepting this may be uncomfortable, but it's essential for taking ownership of your situation and driving meaningful change. When we own our circumstances, we move from a passive state—where things happen to us—to an active state, where we're in control and back in the driver's seat.
Today’s episode is a juicy one, where we’ll explore the common barriers that keep us from our true potential, and some ways to combat the subconscious limiting beliefs that hold us back.
Taking Responsibility
Making excuses: we’ve all done this. This is where we rationalise our own inaction or failures by attributing them to all the external factors that are beyond our control. In this space, we're just shedding the responsibility and deferring the outcome to other people. And when we do that, any success that happens is almost incidental. It’s important to own our own mistakes, recognise where we can do better and take back control of our own progress.
Identifying Barriers
The barriers to our success boil down to several key obstacles. Making excuses and rationalising inaction due to external factors is common, but it defers responsibility. Inaction, often driven by overwhelm, keeps us stagnant. We may get stuck in planning without moving to execution, or focus on low-value tasks instead of strategic goals. Limiting beliefs, deeply embedded in our subconscious, also restrict our growth. These beliefs need to be identified and reprogrammed to drive positive outcomes.
Moving Forward
To move forward, it's vital to acknowledge our limiting beliefs and consciously work to rewrite these stories. While this process may be uncomfortable, it empowers us to define who we want to be and set ourselves on an upward trajectory. It's about showing up, taking consistent actions and refining our processes over time. I encourage you to challenge unhelpful thoughts and take proactive steps so you can break free from your comfort zone and achieve the success you deserve.
Remember, those who have achieved the results you aspire to aren't inherently more special or capable—they've simply taken action. It's possible for you too. Get honest with yourself about where you are, where you want to be and what it will take to get there.
I'd love to hear from you and support you on your journey, so come join me over on LinkedIn and share with me your biggest barrier so we can work through it together!

With nearly two decades in project management and development, I can tell you firsthand that the property and construction industry is tough. And unsurprisingly, it’s even tougher for women.
As someone who specialises in supporting women within the property and construction industry, I’m passionate about discovering how we best attract, retain and develop women in this space.
So today, we’re exploring the often misunderstood world of women's development programs and debunking the common misconceptions about their purpose and effectiveness.
What are Women’s Development Programs?
Women’s development programs often encompass a wide range of initiatives aimed at fostering growth, skill development and empowerment. Contrary to what you might think, they’re not all just about preparing women for leadership roles. They can be more broadly about equipping women at all stages of their career with the tools they need to succeed. I take you through the benefits of these programs, such as building strong professional networks and creating a safe space to discuss challenges unique to women.
Addressing Specific Challenges
A frequent critique of women's development programs is the idea that they’re redundant because of the existence of gender-neutral leadership and development programs. And while I absolutely agree that gender neutral programs are invaluable, they do not address specific challenges faced by women, such as unconscious bias, the lack of female role models and the unique work-life balance problems we often come up against. Women's development programs fill this gap with tailored content that addresses specific barriers, supports women to overcome systemic obstacles and helps them achieve the professional development they might get through a mixed gender setting. The truth is, women's development programs play a critical role in levelling the playing field.
The Power of Diversity
Yes, women’s development programs empower women in the workplace - but this doesn’t just have an impact on the individual level. It has the opportunity to benefit the organisation - and even the industry - as a whole. We know that diversity is what drives innovation, and will allow organisations to stay sustainable and competitive in the future. With inclusive workplaces being six times more likely to innovate and twice as likely to meet their financial targets, I’d say any initiative that supports women to contribute fully and help shift the gender mix in leadership is more than worthwhile.
I think it's important to acknowledge that women's development programs are not just about providing equal opportunities for women. They are actually about harnessing the untapped potential that can drive significant growth and innovation in our traditionally male dominated industries of property and construction.
So, here’s to closing the gender gap in leadership and in turn, creating what we all want to see - a much more inclusive and profitable construction industry!

Men, we need you. If we want to continue to be a thriving, sustainable, and profitable industry, we need to get more women into this industry and strive for gender equity. The only way we are going to get there is if we have the support of male allies to help drive that change.
The Changing Landscape
Recently, I was at a NAWIC event, where we were discussing and sharing stories. Someone asked me, "Is the industry changing? Are we actually seeing positive outcomes for women in the industry?" The answer isn't straightforward. There are days, weeks, and months where I see positive steps in the right direction—people engaging in meaningful conversations and initiatives gaining traction and creating positive results. But there are also times when it feels like all that hard work is being reversed. It often feels like it’s two steps forward and one step back.
The Role of Male Allies
When we talk about gender equity, we appreciate that organisations and leaders want to be seen as driving change. Most of these people have good intentions, but intentions will only get you so far. This is where we need leadership—CEOs and executive teams to champion gender equity. Women have been advocating for changes that address systemic issues for decades with varying levels of success. But in the last 50 years, not much has shifted fundamentally. Men continue to hold the majority of positions of power, especially in the property and construction industry.
The Challenges Women Face
Gender Stereotypes: Young people perceive construction and property as spaces for men.
The Broken Rung: The barrier where women struggle to step into that first leadership role.
The Leaky Pipeline: The gradual loss of women through different stages of their career, particularly when considering starting families.
The Glass Cliff: Women are more likely to be placed into leadership roles during times of crisis and instability.
The Second Shift: Unpaid domestic labour and responsibilities that often fall on women, on top of their paid employment.
Steps to Being a Male Ally
Here's how you can be an effective male ally:
Awareness: Recognise the existence of gender inequity and understand the systemic barriers.
Advocacy: Use your voice and position to promote gender equity and push for organisational and industry change.
Empathy: Actively listen to women’s experiences and validate them without judgement
Concrete Action: Take tangible steps like mentoring, sponsorship, and pushing for equitable policies.
Accountability: Hold yourself and others responsible for perpetuating the issues surrounding gender inequality.
Continuous Learning: Stay educated on gender issues, remain open to feedback, and be prepared to adapt and change.
The Long Game
Being a male ally means engaging in issues and having often hard and uncomfortable conversations to understand the real lived experiences of women in the industry. It’s not a tick-box exercise or a short burst of activity. This is a long game. Show up day in and day out, hold that standard, drive change, and keep repeating until we achieve our goal.
As I said, we need you. We need men in our industry to drive this change because, as women, we will not get there on our own.

I recently spoke with a powerful woman in our industry, and we talked about the progress we've made. There are so many more opportunities for women than there used to be. But even with all these openings, women still hesitate to step into leadership roles. It's like there's an invisible barrier stopping them from grabbing that promotion or stepping into the spotlight.
And you know what? I think I've cracked the code. It all boils down to self-worth.
Unlike self-confidence or self-esteem, self-worth is about recognising our inherent value as human beings, independent of external circumstances or others' opinions. It's about believing that you are worthy of respect, recognition, and all the incredible opportunities this industry has to offer.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Our industry hasn't exactly made women feel valued. The gender pay gap is a glaring example, and let's not even get started on the way society undervalues stay-at-home mums. These messages can chip away at our self-worth over time which makes us doubt our abilities and downplay our achievements.
Maybe you find yourself constantly crediting your mentors or sponsors for your success, instead of owning it yourself. While it is important to acknowledge the support we’re given, we need to be loud and proud about ourselves. The same goes for accepting awards or promotions. It's not about feeling obligated to "pay it forward" or somehow prove you deserve it. It's your moment to celebrate your achievements. You earned it!
So how do we break free from this? I like to think of it as a success trifecta: self-worth, confidence, and visibility.
1.) Knowing who you are, what you want, and what success looks like on your terms is a strong foundation for success.
2) Believing in your abilities and your resilience to keep growing and take on challenges.
3) Let people see your skills and ideas! Don't be afraid to speak up and share your expertise. That's how you build credibility and recognition.
Becoming the best version of yourself takes time and effort, but trust me, it's worth it. So step out of your comfort zone. Explore your relationship with self-worth. Seek out opportunities to grow and be recognised. The property and construction industry needs your unique voice and your incredible talent!
The construction and property industry is a powerhouse, but for women, navigating this sector can feel like climbing a wall with no footholds. Systemic challenges—from ingrained stereotypes to inflexible work-life balance models—create a landscape that often pushes women to the sidelines.
In our previous episode, I discussed many of the systemic challenges that women face. Today I am breaking down how to work towards fixing the system.
This isn't just about fairness; it's about untapped potential. A more inclusive construction industry is a stronger construction industry.
Here are some key areas where we can work together to dismantle the barriers and create a space where women can thrive.
By working together, we can break down the barriers that hold women back in construction. It's a journey, but the destination is a stronger, more equitable industry for everyone.

The journey towards gender equality is riddled with obstacles that hinder progress and limit opportunities for women. The first step to tearing these barriers down is to identify and understand them, so today I’m sharing some of the biggest systemic challenges I see women facing.
Gender Bias and StereotypingAlthough things for women have greatly improved, gender bias and stereotypes still run deep under the surface of many organisations. Traditional gender roles and societal expectations can overshadow individual abilities and preferences, which then influence hiring decisions, promotions, and daily interactions in the workplace. These biases impact not only women's career advancement but also contribute to the underrepresentation of women at all levels of organisations.
Maternity and Family BiasMany women face barriers and discrimination in the workplace when they balance their career with motherhood. Assumptions about women prioritising family over work can impede their professional growth, leading to challenges in promotions and credibility. This bias also forces women to make difficult choices between their families and careers, perpetuating the gender gap in senior roles.
Lack of RepresentationThe lack of representation of women at senior and executive levels within organisations reinforces stereotypes and limits the aspirations of future generations of women. If they can’t see other women in those roles, it is difficult to picture themselves there. This problem is especially bad in industries like construction and real estate, where women hold only a fraction of leadership roles.
Workplace Culture and Harassment From overt sexual harassment to subtle forms of discrimination, workplace culture can be unwelcoming and hostile, especially in male-dominated industries like construction. Exclusion from informal networks, being spoken over in meetings, and derogatory graffiti on job sites are just a few examples of the challenges women face in these environments.
Wage Inequality and Career Progression Barriers Many industries, especially in male-dominated industries like construction, do not have pay equity. They have men in higher-paying roles, and women are relegated to lower-paid administrative positions. A significant factor in this is “the broken rung” which refers to it being more difficult for women to take the first step into management than it is for their male counterparts.
The path to gender equality is complex and challenging but by addressing the barriers in our way, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable industry. Tune in to our next episode for part two of this conversation where I’ll share strategies for breaking down barriers and driving meaningful systemic change.

Today, we’re continuing our conversation around the gender pay gap. Last week, we delved into the complexities of this issue, and now I want to look to the future and how we can close it. I’m going to share five actionable steps you can take to drive equality, whether you're tackling it individually or organisationally.
Step 1: Building the Business Case for Gender Equality:We know how beneficial gender equality will be for women, but businesses exist to make money. If we want them to work towards gender equality, we’ll need a clear outline of the ways it can benefit them. One consistent finding for research has been that diversity drives better decisions that lead to increased productivity and profitability. In short: organisations with diversity perform better.
Step 2: Securing Leadership Commitment:Leaders have a strong influence on workplace culture, so if they aren’t on board with new initiatives, they can easily fail. This is why it’s essential to get leadership committed to gender equity strategies. Then they can set clear objectives, supply resources, and act as a role model, which sets the stage for success.
Step 3: Developing a Comprehensive Strategy:Once you have a strong business case and leadership on board, you’ll need a comprehensive strategy for addressing the gender pay gap. Start by thinking about the current state of the organisation and the specific considerations it will need. It’s more than just “how can we close the gender pay gap”.
It could be how can we mainstream flexible working? How can we promote professional development in our team? How can we apply a gender lens to our policies? Identifying these focus areas is a crucial step in building a more inclusive and diverse workplace.
Step 4: Fostering an Inclusive and Supportive Culture:Many people are uncomfortable with change, but this doesn’t mean we should leave them behind. Taking the time to have thoughtful honest conversations can show people the way forward isn’t scary but beneficial for everyone. This requires a strong foundation of trust that allows people to ask questions and be authentic.
Step 5: Continuous Monitoring and Accountability:Continuous monitoring and accountability are key components in closing the gender pay gap. If we aren’t paying attention to our progress, it’s easy to fall off track completely and not realise it for a long time. We need businesses to set ambitious goals and to speak openly and frequently about them.
By embracing these actionable steps, organisations and individuals can create a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse workplace. So let's continue this journey together, striving for a better future.

Picture this: for every dollar a man pockets in Australia, a woman is left with just 78 cents in her purse.
It’s an unfortunate reality according to recent reports that highlight a gender pay gap of 21.7% across the nation. These figures serve as a stark reminder of the amount of work we still need to do to achieve pay equity in the workplace.
Open conversations are incredibly powerful tools for change, so I want to talk about the gender pay gap with you. I know there’s a lot of data on this subject and that it can be overwhelming so this episode will give you an overview. By the end, you will be better equipped for future episodes on this topic and hopefully ready to have meaningful conversations about the gender pay gap in your own life.
So, what is the Gender Pay Gap?
There are a lot of different ways to measure this, but my source is the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). According to them, the gender pay gap is “a measure of how we value the contribution of men and women in the workforce.” This can be communicated as a dollar amount (78 cents on the dollar) or a percentage (21.7%), but whichever way it’s a representation of the difference in earnings.
I like WGEA’s assessment of the gender pay gap because I believe it gives a more comprehensive overview than other sources like the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Some of the biggest differences are:
Benefits of Addressing the Gender Pay Gap:First and foremost, if we had pay equity it would be incredibly beneficial for all women. It might be hard to visualise when we’re talking small numbers like 78 cents, but when you take that across our weekly pay, our annual income, or our lifetime earnings - it’s much easier to see women are losing out on huge amounts of money. It’s money that could be used to help women escape situations like homelessness or domestic violence. The benefits go beyond women though. The gender pay gap is estimated to cost the Australian economy 52 billion dollars. Imagine what could change if that wasn’t the case! There are countless more reasons why we need to address this issue and I’ll touch on more of them in future episodes.

Ambition is not a dirty word.
As leaders and as women in a male-dominated space, we often struggle to articulate what it is we are working towards, or we have disempowering beliefs about what is possible for ourselves. We allow ourselves to be held back because we don’t want to be seen as ambitious and the negative conceptions that come with that.
But there’s only one way to get past this. We need more ambitious women to step up as leaders and break through the stigma to pave the way for more women to follow, and that’s what we’re talking about in today’s episode.
The Stigma of Ambitious Women So why is ambition in women often perceived so negatively? Well, a huge culprit here is traditional gender roles where women are meant to be nurturing and supportive. These gender roles, which are still entrenched in society, expect women to prioritise other people, especially their families.
If a woman is ambitious and doesn’t have a family she can be labelled unfeminine. If a woman is ambitious and does have a family, she will be labeled selfish or neglectful.
None of that is true though. We all have the right to live our lives in the way we want and we shouldn’t need to justify our ambition or our choice to start a family or not.
Challenging Perceptions and Redefining Success So it’s clear women are facing unique challenges when expressing ambition, but what can we do about it? I believe it’s crucial that we start having conversations about our ambitions, our career advancement, and the impact we are having in our industry. That authenticity can inspire others to take steps toward their goals. It shows what is possible and helps redefine what it means to be an ambitious, focused, successful woman.
We only have so much time on this earth, we can’t afford to let other people shape our paths or hold us back. If we do, we’re letting down the people we could be helping and ourselves. So, I hope this episode gives you the confidence to embrace your ambitions, to share them with others, and to pursue them fearlessly.

Is the situation actually complicated or is it really quite straightforward, but you're making it complicated because it requires a lot of courage to make the straightforward decision?
I read this question in an email from James Clear author of "Atomic Habits", and it struck a chord with me. So much so that I pushed back my original plans for this episode so I could discuss it with you today.
Straightforward vs Complex Decisions:I think the best place to start is understanding the difference between complex and straightforward decisions. Straightforward decisions typically have a clear goal, the outcomes are well-defined, there are only a few factors to consider and there isn’t a lot of risk if things go wrong. Complex decisions have more ambiguous objectives, the goals can be conflicting, and you are faced with multiple unpredictable variables. Most of all the stakes are high.
What’s holding us back:You also need to consider factors that might be affecting your perception of complexity. Having experience or knowledge around a decision can make it seem a lot simpler, whereas negative emotional states or external pressures may make it seem a lot more complex. We can also have biases in our minds that hold us back from effectively making decisions. Some of the most common ones I see affecting people are:
Overthinking: Creating problems where none exist.
Fear of making the wrong choice: Catastrophising unlikely outcomes.
Analysis paralysis: Getting stuck in endless evaluation without action.
Environmental and cultural influences: Workplace pressure and social norms.
Cognitive load: Too many things going on in life can leave us without enough cognitive resources to make a decision.
Embracing Courage and Self-Assurance: It is so important that we accept imperfect decisions. It’s impossible to always make the best choice in life, all we can do is move forward based on what we know. It is scary but if we focus on taking decisive action and staying adaptable, we can confidently navigate whatever comes our way.
The number one message I want you to take from this episode is that nobody is perfect and we shouldn’t want to be. The ups and downs of life are what make it great. They inspire us to grow and change and be more confident each day. So have a think about what decisions you’ve been putting off, and what it is that’s really been holding you back.
Until next time, stay courageous and trust yourself to make those bold decisions!

Are you on track for what you want to achieve in 2024? I've just gotten back from a fabulous holiday with my family, but as I sit back down at my desk, it’s hard to believe we’re already in Q2 of this year!
I personally use quarters as a time of reflection to check in with myself. Am I on track for what I want to achieve? What’s working, what isn't and what do I need to do differently to create the results I want at the end of the year?
Today I want to take you on that same journey and explore why we so often don't achieve the goals we ambitiously set for ourselves. This is your opportunity to check in with yourself and make sure you're on track to create the impact and results you want this year. What we’ll talk about in this episode applies to you as an individual, both in your professional and personal life, as well as your team or organisation.
One of the biggest mistakes we make when setting goals is not being clear and specific about what we want to achieve. While it's common to have general aspirations, such as getting promoted, it's important to define the specifics of the goal. I talk about creating a SMART goal (specific, measurable, attainable, results-focused and timed), so that we can ensure our efforts are aligned with our desired outcomes.
Another common pitfall is trying to work on too many goals simultaneously. Multitasking may seem efficient, but it often leads to spreading ourselves too thin and diluting our efforts. By simplifying our focus to one goal, we amplify our results. This focused approach allows us to push through discomfort and take the necessary steps to create exponential change.
I’m a big fan of creating a clear plan to achieve our goals. Without a roadmap, we may find ourselves shuffling along, hoping for change without taking intentional action. I talk about breaking down our goal into actionable tasks and milestones, creating a logical path from where we are now to where we want to be.
The truth is, no one can achieve their goals alone, and I’m a strong believer that seeking support is essential for success. Whether it's a coach, mentor or program, having someone in our corner who believes in our potential can make a huge difference in staying motivated.
So, join me as we get curious and take actionable steps to becoming our best, most successful selves on our leadership journey!

How would you behave if you were the best in the world? If you were at the absolute top of your field, what actions would you take everyday to maintain that level of excellence?
In last week’s episode, I shared my journey to truly understanding what I wanted out of life and my career - sparked by a mid-life crisis in my thirties - and how this led me to a life that brings true meaning and fulfilment.
While uncovering what it is you really want your life to look like is absolutely freeing, there’s more to it than just knowing. In this episode, I’m talking about taking action everyday in a way that aligns with who you want to be in your life and career.
So, how would you behave if you were the best in the world? This question often brings with it fear and terror, because we know that becoming the best version of ourselves requires brave action. But to achieve incredible outcomes in our work and our lives, we must choose a path that holds ourselves to the highest standard. What will you no longer tolerate in your life, from yourself and others? Which excuses will you no longer allow yourself to make?
Today, I'm inviting you to set a standard for yourself. Establish that mindset of excellence. Make behavioural changes that take you from mediocrity to being an impactful leader. And I tell you from experience that when we take the steps to be the person we want to be, that is when we create the results that we want. That is when everything shifts.

Someone recently asked me why I moved from project management and property development into leadership coaching. And I told them the truth - I'd had a midlife crisis!
I was in my mid thirties and to be honest, my life was going great. However, one day not long into my new dream role, I had this sudden realisation that I was already looking for what was next. I was searching for meaning in the next role and thinking that when I achieved that, that would be when I would suddenly be happy and fulfilled.
For many of us, the reality is that even when we achieve the things we want, we remain feeling unfulfilled and hope that the next goal on our list will bring us the happiness we so desire.
A startling reality for me on my own journey was that though my career meant a huge amount to me, I actually had to look beyond simply my career. I realised that it had become so much of my identity and was what mattered most to me - more than my relationships and even my family. Once I was able to step back and see how crazy that was, it forced me to reassess my life completely in a way that I had never done.
Now that I’ve come to the other side of that exploration, I truly believe it all boils down to one simple question: What do you want? What do you want your life and career to look like? What actually matters most to you in this one, short life? These questions really require us to think beyond just our careers and the roles we have in and outside of work. It requires us to go deeper and think about what will bring us joy, happiness and contentment in knowing we’re in true alignment.
I do challenge you to really get clear on your answer, because once you know what it is that you truly want, that is when you can actually take the steps to create it.

If you’re like many leaders in the property and construction industry, you’ll know what it’s like to push yourself relentlessly to deliver results - even at the expense of your own wellbeing. And not only does this put undue pressure on yourself, it likely has a less than desirable impact on those you lead.
Today, we’re exploring the idea of how to “Stop Killing the Golden Goose” and the consequences of valuing short-term gains over long-term sustainability.
So what does “killing the golden goose” even mean? If you’re familiar with Aesop’s Fables, you may have heard the story of a farmer who owns a golden egg-laying goose. Now, in pursuit of more wealth, the farmer decides to kill the goose, hoping that inside he’ll find a lump of gold. The result? No lump of gold and now, no goose! The farmer has lost that recurring stream of golden eggs.
How does this apply to us? This timeless tale is a reminder that making sacrifices for short-term gains can be hugely detrimental to our long-term goals. In this episode, we’re talking about how to produce outcomes and get results without burning ourselves or our team out. We’ll also delve into strategies to work smarter, not harder, in order to set ourselves and our people up for sustainable success.
An important part of this, which is often overlooked by leaders, is ensuring that we nurture a culture of growth and support in our workplaces. By fostering open communication, encouraging risk-taking and empowering team members to share their ideas, we have the opportunity to enhance productivity while safeguarding mental and emotional wellbeing.
While the discussion around production capability and burnout is often boiled down to just taking on self-care strategies, I believe we really need to get clear on what it means in practice for each of us. And as we know, what works for someone will be completely different for someone else. So what are your key drivers, and what are your measures of success?
Having a better understanding of what is important to you will help you discover what you want your life and career to truly look like. In turn, you’ll find the tools to create the balance you need for your own life path, rather than following in the footsteps of anyone else.
So join me today and learn how to increase your productivity and that of your team for a healthier, more well-rounded state of being for all.

In our daily lives, the word "conflict" often carries a negative connotation. Many of us shy away from disagreement and avoid confrontation at all costs. But what if I told you that conflict has immense power and can spark growth in the workplace? Join me for this episode as we explore the importance of constructive clashes and why we need conflict at work.
The Misunderstood Nature of ConflictYou can find this aversion to conflict at the core of many organisations, and there are a few reasons behind this. Firstly some people find conflict personally uncomfortable, so they shy away from it and don’t realise the potential they are missing out on. Then, some leaders like to surround themselves with people who will support and agree with them unquestioningly. Without diverse perspectives, innovation is stifled.
Finally, organisations can fall into the trap of thinking that conflict will make employees unhappy and, in order to attract or retain top talent, it must be avoided. Conflict without respect can be destructive, but a workplace devoid of conflict is not a healthy environment.
Constructive conflict focuses on ideas and solutions, encouraging collaboration and creativity. It thrives on diverse viewpoints, mutual respect, and a willingness to explore new possibilities. In contrast, destructive conflict places personal attacks over issues, leading to a breakdown in communication, trust, and productivity
Setting the Stage for Constructive Conflict:Constructive conflict requires an environment where individuals feel heard, valued, and encouraged to voice their opinions. Leaders need to encourage their teams to voice their opinions, challenge assumptions, and explore new perspectives.
We also need to establish ground rules for these challenging conversations. For example what tone of voice or language is acceptable? Even healthy conflict can be uncomfortable, but having these guidelines allows us to stay on track and communicate effectively. Remember it’s not about who is right or wrong. It’s about coming together to find the best path forward for your business.
Embracing conflict in your business is not just beneficial, it’s essential. By redefining our relationship with conflict, we can create dynamic, inclusive workplaces where diverse voices are heard, ideas are valued, and positive change flourishes.
Have you ever stopped to consider how your thoughts shape your reality?
Think of your mind as an iceberg. The thoughts we are aware of represent the tip of the iceberg, while a vast realm of subconscious beliefs lies beneath the surface, guiding our actions and shaping our attitudes. These beliefs act like a computer program running in the background, impacting every decision we make.
From the moment we are born, our beliefs are formed and shaped by our experiences, upbringing, and societal influences. Some beliefs empower us, motivating us to take action and move forward, while others act as limiting beliefs, holding us back and constraining our view of what is possible.
Identifying Limiting BeliefsIt's essential to identify these limiting beliefs that lurk in our subconscious. They often stem from inherited beliefs, past traumas, or societal conditioning; and fall into one of three main categories:
Beliefs about possibility: these limit our view of what could be achieved, leading us to shy away from opportunities or dreams.
Beliefs about ability: these center around self-doubt and questioning our own capabilities.
Beliefs about worthiness: these come from low self-esteem and a feeling that you are undeserving.
Reprogramming Your MindOnce you’ve identified the limiting beliefs in your mind, you need to replace them with empowering thoughts. This reprogramming requires self-awareness and a willingness to challenge our beliefs. By seeking evidence that contradicts our limiting beliefs, reframing our thoughts, visualising success, and taking aligned action, we can shift our mindset and propel ourselves forward. It's a continuous process that requires dedication, but the rewards are profound.
Remember, the most significant changes in life stem from altering our beliefs and upgrading the programming in our minds. So, dare to challenge your limiting beliefs, embrace empowering thoughts, and forge a path toward a brighter future.
You've got this!

Trust is the foundation upon which all successful relationships are built, personal or professional. Without trust, even the most technically brilliant individuals can become challenging to work with. I once had a boss who possessed immense knowledge and experience, but our lack of trust hindered my growth and made it difficult to communicate. This experience made me realise the importance of trust and its impact on our interactions with others, and that’s what I’m talking about in today’s episode.
Understanding the Concept of Trust
While it may seem obvious that we need trust, its true meaning is often overlooked. Trust is not a light switch that can be turned on instantly. Instead, it is a gradual process that requires consistent effort and investment. Just like a piggy bank, each interaction either adds or withdraws trust coins. Respectful engagements contribute to building trust, while negative interactions and stress chip away at it.
Being Present and Consistent
To build trust, leaders must be present and genuinely engaged with their team members. This doesn't mean physically being in the office every day but rather establishing real connection points. Regular meetings and touchpoints, whether in person or virtual, offer opportunities to get to know each other on a deeper level. Consistency is also key. Leaders must show up and fulfill their commitments to create a solid bank balance of trust.
Being Open and Vulnerable
In addition to presence and consistency, openness and vulnerability play crucial roles in building trust. It's not about sharing every secret or personal detail, but rather about showing up as our genuine selves and admitting our mistakes. By being vulnerable and authentic, leaders create a foundation of trust that encourages others to do the same.
Trust is the cornerstone of exceptional leadership, that can help us unlock the full potential of our teams. So, let's take a moment to reflect on our relationships. Are they built on trust? Do they support us and encourage growth?
If there are areas for improvement, don't worry. With a little TLC, any relationship can be transformed into one based on trust and mutual support. Start prioritising trust and watch as it becomes the catalyst for extraordinary leadership.

Have you ever had that colleague who just does not understand what you’re trying to say? You think you’re communicating clearly, but it falls on deaf ears. Miscommunication can be one of the biggest barriers to success in the workplace, and I know firsthand how frustrating this can be. So today, I’m giving you a workplace playbook that will help you decode and understand your colleagues, boss, friends and even yourself a whole lot better.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you will have heard me talking about the DISC model. This is a powerful assessment tool that looks at people's innate personalities, and by using it we can unlock the secrets to effective communication and high functioning teams.
In this episode, we’ll dive into the four different behavioural tendencies or personality types:
Each type brings something unique to the table, with their own strengths and weaknesses. The Dominant individuals are fast-paced, results-driven leaders, while Influencers excel at communication and building relationships. Steady people are great listeners and team players, while Conscientious individuals are analytical and detail-oriented.
By understanding these personality types, we can gain valuable insight into how others think, interpret information and what motivates them. This awareness allows us to tailor our communication to the needs of each individual, improving collaboration and creating more effective teams.
Believe me - by the end of this episode, you’ll start applying this model to everyone you know - including yourself! So join me today and learn how you can begin to create much-needed synergy between yourself and those around you.
With a bit of understanding, and a bit of tweaking and work, we can actually create a much easier, natural, open flow to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Today, I want to share five simple steps to up-level your leadership. These five things will determine the amount of impact you have, the results you get, and how fun the process of achieving those results is. Whether you are an emerging leader, aspiring to become one, or already an established leader, this episode is for you!
Step 1: Building Self Awareness
Self-awareness is key to effective leadership. Take the time to reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, leadership style, and core values. Ask yourself questions like: What are my core values? What drives me as a person? What are my strengths and weaknesses? By understanding yourself, you can lead with authenticity and clarity.
Step 2: Define Your Leadership Vision
Having a clear vision of your leadership journey can serve as your compass, guiding you and your team toward shared goals. Define a two-sentence leadership statement that articulates the type of leader you are and the most important milestone you aim to achieve this year. Visualize what success looks like when you achieve that milestone.
Step 3: Hone Your Leadership Skills
Leadership is more than just managing tasks; it's about elevating people, strategic thinking, influencing, and creating positive change. Investing in your continuous professional development is crucial to build the necessary skills and confidence to effectively lead. Consider one skill every great leader should possess and evaluate your current level of mastery.
Step 4: Build a Cohesive Team
Effective leaders understand the importance of building a cohesive team, which requires both trust and inclusivity. Reflect on how you currently build trust with others and consider strategies to foster inclusivity within your team. Remember, strong relationships are built with intentional and consistent actions.
Step 5: Cultivate a Growth Mindset
In a constantly changing business landscape, adaptability is crucial. Strive to create a culture of learning and growth, where everyone feels comfortable challenging themselves and taking risks. This will equip your team with the resilience to navigate challenges and seize opportunities.
Becoming an exceptional leader requires time, effort, and a commitment to personal growth. I hope this episode will leave you better equipped for your leadership journey. Take action today by reflecting on how each step applies to you and where you want to go.
Remember, thought without action is meaningless!
So embrace the exceptional leader within you and unlock your full potential.

You need to hear today’s episode. We’re talking all about breaking barriers in the workplace, and specifically how to create a blueprint to inclusive leadership. Whether we lead a team, aspire to lead or are just part of a team, it’s up to every single one of us to show up with inclusivity as part of our agenda.
I personally believe that no matter how great a leader or teammate you are, inclusion is something that requires intention and continuous work. Because let's be clear - all studies show that diversity increases bottom lines, increases engagement and makes society a better place. We need to be able to have open conversations about inclusion, what it means, what it doesn't mean and how we can do it better so that everyone shows up to deliver their best results.
From the work I do with organisations, I’ve come across many situations where people have been excluded - whether the people doing the excluding meant to or not. Not only can a lack of inclusivity be damaging for individuals’ sense of belonging and purpose, I’ve seen it erode relationships and negatively impact a team’s performance. And worse, for those in a minority group, it can compound their experiences with exclusion and perpetuate those feelings of being undervalued.
In this episode, I’m discussing the need each of us has to contribute to creating an inclusive culture at work. Through intentional actions, self-awareness and empathy, we can proactively dismantle barriers and promote an environment where everyone feels valued and included. From actively seeking diverse perspectives during decision-making processes to creating spaces for open dialogue and feedback, leaders can help transform our workplaces and the lives of those they lead into ones that thrive.
So, join me today and get ready to step up your game as a leader in inclusivity within the workforce.

In today's episode, we explore unlocking the power of your leadership shadow. We'll delve into what a leadership shadow is, how it's cast, and how to harness it for a greater impact, and better outcomes. Whether you are a seasoned leader or aspiring to step into a leadership role, this conversation is relevant to you.
Your leadership shadow encompasses the impact, influence, and impression you leave on your team and organization, involving communication, decision-making, emotional responses, and the reflection of your values in your work. Becoming aware of your leadership shadow is crucial because it affects not only you but also those around you.
Key Factors of Your Leadership Shadow:
1. Decision Making: Your choices as a leader reflect your priorities and approach to problem-solving. How you communicate and explain these decisions influences how people perceive and relate to you.
2. Communication Style: Your tone, methods, mediums, frequency, and openness in communication shape how you are seen as a leader. Every interaction, from team meetings to town halls, contributes to your leadership shadow.
3. Emotional Intelligence: Your ability to show up, control your own emotions, and understand and respond to others' emotional responses is a key aspect of your leadership shadow.
4. Values and Ethics: The principles that guide you as a leader and the behaviors you visibly uphold set the tone for what is acceptable in your organization.
5. Handling Stress: How you respond under stress and set the precedent for others influences your leadership shadow.
I’ll also share advice on how to bridge the gap between your current shadow and the shadow you want to cast. Start by gaining self-awareness of your current leadership shadow. Then, get intentional about aligning it with your desired leadership qualities, organizational goals, and shared values.
Unlocking the power of your leadership shadow is a journey that requires self-awareness, and continuous improvement, but it’s a journey worth making. If you acknowledge and address your blind spots, and strive to lead with integrity, you can become an exceptional leader who inspires and influences others.
Remember, great leaders are needed more than ever. Why shouldn't it be you?
Today I want to delve into the most common mistakes I see leaders making and, more importantly, what you can do instead. These mistakes often act as barriers for leaders, preventing them from achieving the impact they desire. By recognizing these mistakes and implementing the suggested solutions, leaders can enhance their effectiveness and drive better results in their teams and organizations.
Using Your Self-Awareness to Your Advantage: Self-awareness is a crucial quality of a good leader, but it can become a hindrance when leaders focus solely on improving their weaknesses. Leaders should focus on their strengths and assemble a team that covers their weaknesses, so everyone can flourish in the areas where they excel.
Knowing Your Number One Priority: Leaders often fall into the trap of not identifying their number one priority, and without a clear focus, progress becomes scattered. Leaders need to determine the most critical goal and communicate it effectively to their team. This way everyone can align their efforts and work towards a shared objective, ultimately driving greater success.
The Art of Clear Articulation: Communication is one of the most challenging aspects of leadership. It can be really difficult to simplify complex strategies and ideas so that everyone can understand them. However, boiling down the message to its simplest form helps ensure that everyone comprehends the objective and can contribute effectively.
Leading with Humility: Leaders who rely solely on their charisma to rally their teams may limit their impact. By removing the ego and shining the spotlight on the collective cause, leaders can inspire teams to work together towards shared goals, fostering a more impactful environment.
Making Tough Calls: Leadership often involves making difficult decisions, and many leaders resist taking action due to the discomfort associated with these tough calls. However, true leaders choose to confront and resolve challenging situations to produce the best outcomes for their teams and organizations.
Creating Psychological Safety: One of our key responsibilities as leaders is to create a psychologically safe workspace. Without an environment that encourages communication, team members may be afraid to take risks, challenge ideas, or offer input, and work will suffer. A culture of psychological safety allows people to thrive and contributes to overall team success.
Applying Knowledge: Leaders are often avid learners, constantly consuming books, podcasts, and articles. However, acquiring knowledge without applying it can render it meaningless. Leaders must ensure that they apply the concepts and ideas they acquire, in order to maximize their growth and the impact they have on their teams and organizations.
As leaders, we must continuously evaluate our actions and behaviors to identify areas for improvement. By recognizing and rectifying these seven common mistakes, leaders can enhance their effectiveness, drive better results, and create a positive and impactful environment for their teams.

Are great leaders born or built? As a leadership coach and someone who trains high performing teams, I have pondered this topic deeply. What differentiates natural traits from personal growth and development? And what makes an average leader compared to a truly exceptional one? Today I take you on my own journey as we explore these questions and dig deeper into what makes great leadership.
We’ll start by examining an early theory called the Great Man Theory. It suggests that men - who historically held most leadership positions - are born with inherent traits that make them exceptional leaders. While traits like confidence, resilience and decisiveness are valuable, they don't solely define great leaders. I believe great leaders are built by having a personal commitment to being the best that they can be, and dedicated to a cause or a purpose beyond simply self interest.
Next, I dive a little deeper into the power of natural traits. I often see people questioning their ability to have a bigger impact when they don’t feel they possess those traditional leadership traits. However, being a great leader requires more than just these natural attributes. I take you through the DISC tool, which identifies four key personality types. While traditionally, most leaders have fallen into the Dominant category, the question lies, are they the only types of leaders we should have?
I then talk about the need for adaptability, a skill that I believe everyone needs. We live in an interactive, ever-changing world and the ability to adapt and evolve is more important than ever. To be able to pivot and meet the needs of any given situation is the key to lasting and sustainable results. We also need to be adaptable so that we can engage better with our teams and understand how to get the best from them. This requires a deep level of self-awareness to be constantly building who we are in leadership.
Whether you're starting your leadership journey or looking to make a greater impact, this episode will give you practical insights and strategies to help you grow as a leader. Remember, anyone can become a great leader with dedication and the right mindset. I encourage you to take the time and think about one way you could step beyond your comfort zone to lead better in your everyday life and work.

Welcome to Building Up Leaders in Property, I am so excited to be back with you!
We’re starting 2024 with a new name and today I want to share with you everything behind this change.
Diversity and inclusion have been at the heart of my work over the past five years. I have been dedicated to supporting women in becoming confident leaders within our industry. However, last year marked a significant shift in my perspective.
I began having conversations with men in our industry and current leaders about the changes needed to widen the pool of talent in our industry. It made me rethink the focus of my podcast, which was previously solely focused on women, and I decided to open the doors wider.
This podcast is now a conversation for anyone willing and ready to discuss what it takes to lead in the property space. We know that no individual can solve all the challenges our industry faces, but together, we can share insights, lessons, and ideas to become a stronger, more diverse, and more profitable sector.
We all must take personal responsibility for where we are in our leadership journey. If our current environment is not open to change or unwilling to put in the work, there are plenty of organizations and leaders out there who are. We must broaden our horizons and find the right people to support our growth, development, and the creation of a meaningful impact.
Remember, leadership is a continuous journey for everyone, regardless of their experience level. It starts with a big vision, understanding why you matter, and realizing that the people around you matter too. Have fun with it, play with new ideas, and surround yourself with individuals who will help you shine and seize the opportunities to create a significant impact.
Until next time, embrace the journey, and let's create positive change together!

Today’s episode is born from my own experience over the last couple of weeks of feeling there’s so much going on not only in my own life, but in the world generally. It’s been hard to stay motivated and focused on the things that really matter, and I know I’m not alone in this. So join me as I share four powerful strategies to help you reset and refocus when overwhelm takes hold.
Overwhelm can strike for many reasons, like a jam-packed to-do list, social anxiety or external factors like political instability and global events. It’s a natural part of life; however, it's crucial to recognise that it can affect every aspect of our lives. When we're overwhelmed at work, it often spills over into our personal lives and negatively impacts our overall wellbeing.
The first step in regaining control is acknowledging that you're overwhelmed. It's essential to confront this feeling head-on rather than letting it simmer beneath the surface. Remember, it's okay to feel this way. We're all multidimensional and complex beings. So rather than beat yourself up, I encourage you to take action and get back to being productive with these four steps:
I take you through each step and give you some practical ideas of how to implement them in your daily life. I talk about writing down your to-do list tasks in one place so give yourself a consolidated view of what’s really going on, and evaluate what is serving you and what isn’t.
Remember, life isn’t about achieving perfection but making progress, one step at a time. So, bookmark this episode as a valuable resource, whether you’re in the midst of overwhelm or to safeguard against those moments that try to sneak back in.
You've got this, my friend!

Self-identity is often wrapped up in what we do, rather than who we are at the core. We tend to define ourselves by that specific role in our relationships or our job title at work. However, knowing who you are separate to these things is crucial to self-discovery and living a life that is truly aligned. Today, I’m building upon last week's conversation on reinvention by asking the question that we don’t often ask ourselves: Who do you want to be?
I believe that identifying the person you are now, as well as the person you want to be, is the key to making confident decisions for your life. Once you know how you want to show up in the different aspects of your life, be it career, personal relationships or spirituality, you have the power to live and act in a way that truly reflects your desires.
In this episode, I encourage you to take some time to recognise where you are right now, at this moment. What defines you? What matters to you? What motivates you? Identifying your core values will be your guiding light, shaping your behaviours, interactions and ultimately your choices. I share my own core values and how they inform the way I approach all the different areas in my own life, including who I choose to work and connect with.
Living intentionally as the person you aspire to be involves aligning your actions with your values. This may mean shedding old identities or beliefs that no longer serve you. I encourage you to visualise your life as this authentic self in all your interactions, whether at work, home or in personal relationships. Embracing self-reflection and vision setting will allow you to redefine yourself beyond your achievements or job title.
Remember, we are all works in progress, and you don’t need to be perfect. It's all about the journey of becoming the best version of yourself, and to begin showing up in a way that truly aligns with your most authentic self.

Today, we're diving into a topic that many of us can relate to at various points in our lives—reinvention. Last week, we pondered whether we were on track for our desired destinations. Today, we explore what happens when our goals and aspirations change, or the path we’re on no longer resonates with our current desires.
The messy middle of life isn’t the most inspiring place to be, and we often want to avoid talking about it. We feel stagnant, unsure of where to go next and a little lost. However, change is inevitable, and it’s during times of uncertainty and challenges that we grow the most. So if this stage of life sounds familiar to you, remember that you’re not alone.
In this episode, I share with you my own journey to finding my purpose and the right path for my career. I talk about achieving a life that looked great on paper some years ago, but left me feeling hollow and disconnected from my success. Accepting this reality and opening myself to new possibilities was challenging. The process of deep self-reflection and soul-searching wasn’t comfortable, but led me to the wonderful and fulfilling journey I’m on now.
So, when is it time for reinvention? If you feel like you’re standing still, stuck in Groundhog Day, or unsure about your next steps, these are signs to consider a new direction. Changes in industry, technology, or personal circumstances can also trigger self-reflection. Sometimes, it's your natural growth and evolving interests that push you toward change. I encourage you to push aside fear and explore reinvention, driven by your desires and not others' expectations.
Reinvention doesn't mean burning bridges; it's about evolving into the next version of yourself. Be open to your own development, recognising that we’re in our careers for 40 or 50 years now. You’re not the person who started your career in your early 20s, and you certainly won’t be the same person in your 30s or 40s. Change is natural, and embracing it will only help propel you forward as you navigate your life and career.

We've officially stepped into October, and with roughly 90 days left of the year, I thought it would be a good time to step back, reassess and see where we stand on the path to our goals.
Whether you've been crushing your goals or you're feeling a bit off track, this episode is for you. We're going to dive deep into three powerful questions that will help you gain clarity, motivation and direction to finish this year strong.
Firstly, are you on track? It can be easy to start off the year with some big sky goals and a whole lot of energy. However, as life’s challenges come and go, it’s even easier to move away from the plans we had set for ourselves. If you’re one of the lucky ones who can answer this question with a resounding yes, then pat yourself on the back and keep on soaring! Acknowledging your success is important in fueling motivation and creating that forward momentum.
However, for many the answer will be a no, and that’s okay! Perhaps we were trying to achieve too much in too many areas, or we weren’t actually clear enough about what our goals were. Maybe life just got in the way, and setbacks were unavoidable. Whatever the reason, it’s important to really look inward and identify where and why things might have gone astray.
So, what things didn’t go very well? There is always something to learn from our challenges, and being able to recognise where things fell short will help us course correct as we continue forward. Embracing setbacks with a growth mindset is key to development - remember, it’s not just about where you are, but where you’re headed.
I then encourage you to ask yourself what you could do differently for the remainder of the year. With a few months ahead of us, there is still time to commit to an area you want to focus on. Whether it's your career, health, relationships, or personal growth, choose one aspect of your life to prioritise. When we spread ourselves too thin, it can be tough to make significant progress.
No matter where you are in your journey, there's no better time to start than now. By answering these three questions and setting a clear intention for the final stretch of the year, you'll be amazed at the progress you can make. Remember, a lot can change in just a few months when you're committed to your growth and goals.
So join me today and let’s get on track to finish this year strong together!

The workplace should be a hub for productivity, learning, and camaraderie. Yet, for many, it turns into a pit of stress and politics. In this episode I pull back the curtain on the grim reality of toxic workplaces and the toll they take on individuals. If you've ever felt stifled, stressed, or simply curious about this widespread issue, this episode is a must-listen.
Toxicity in the workplace isn’t always blatant. It’s the subtle, insidious occurrences that often go unnoticed but leave a lasting impact. I dive deep into this, highlighting the often ignored signs - from broken promises by the leadership to a lack of psychological safety.
I also share my experience in a toxic workplace, the effect it had on me, and my breaking point of hitting a wall – both literally and metaphorically. I want to share how important it is to recognise when one's work environment is starting to take a toll on their mental well-being.
Once you’ve idenitifed you’re in a toxic environment, you need to be able to find your way out so I share some coping mechanisms to help you navigate these treacherous waters. From setting boundaries to seeking support, our guest outlines concrete steps one can take to safeguard their well-being. The narrative is clear: no job is worth sacrificing your mental health, and sometimes, the bravest step is to walk away.
While toxic workplaces might not be the norm, they certainly aren't anomalies. Anyone can find themselves in one but no one deserves to be there. I hope this episode equips you with the information you need to prioritize your well-being.

Do you experience paralysis when it comes to making important decisions? Are you often feeling stuck because you’re afraid of making the wrong choice?
If so, then today’s episode is for you. I see many people struggle to take action when there’s a decision looming over their heads, whether it’s for their career or in their personal life. This can result in missed opportunities, prolonged negativity and a delay in seeing desired outcomes.
Today I talk through how we should approach and improve in our decision-making, in order to move forward with clarity and begin to create the results we truly want.
While making confident decisions can be tough for anyone, as women we often grapple with the fear of making mistakes and the potential for negative judgment. This fear can lead to hesitation and indecision, hindering the professional growth we strive so hard for. To thrive in our careers and assume leadership roles with confidence, we must confront this challenge and recognise strong decision-making as a pivotal skill that sets us apart.
I take you through some effective strategies that are designed to help you gain clarity, reduce uncertainty and make confident choices:
Decision-making is a skill that can be honed and refined over time. I encourage you to take the time to dig deep and uncover the information you need in order to make well-informed decisions, so that you can continue to move upwards and onwards.
I hope this episode supports you to grow in trusting your intuition, standing by your choices and committing to the outcomes they present. Remember, mistakes can happen, but with them comes the opportunity to learn, grow and become the best possible version of yourself as a leader in your field.

Do you struggle to get your message across to your team or clients in an effective way? Do things often get lost in translation when it comes to how your message is received?
Well, you’re not alone. Missed communication proves to be a prevalent issue within many workplaces and in today’s episode, we’re exploring strategies on how to deliver your message clearly and in a much more impactful manner.
Many of us assume that we’re being crystal clear in our communication, and are often puzzled as to why it’s not being received in the way we expect. As a DISC certified practitioner, I understand the importance of focusing on who you are giving information to, rather than only on what you are saying.
Understanding what the natural preferences are of those receiving your message is key, and I give you an overview of the four main personality styles the DISC model describes:
I run through the different traits associated with the DISC personality styles, and encourage you to reflect on the individuals within your work environment. Is the person you’re communicating with assertive and results-driven? Or do they prioritise connection and collaboration? Perhaps they are more methodical and prefer to absorb information slowly.
Whoever your audience is, it’s important to bring emotional intelligence into the equation and approach the situation with empathy. How you read a person and adapt your communication style accordingly can make all the difference in reaching them effectively.
We won’t always nail our communication on the first go, and that’s okay. As long as we’re embarking on this journey with a growth mindset and a willingness to learn, we will continue to improve.
So, I encourage you to think about how you share your information and what might need to change to ensure a better experience for everyone involved.

Welcome to today’s episode, where I’m delving into the topic of evolution versus revolution in leadership. After recently reading Jim Collins' remarkable book Good to Great, I was deeply inspired by its insights and wanted to share with you my learnings from it. I also discuss my own thoughts on embracing continual growth and learning to become the best leaders we can be.
When it comes to exceptional leadership, the journey to greatness doesn’t happen overnight. Research has shown that outstanding companies outperforming in their market wasn’t due to a big launch or rebrand - the success came through positive, sustained changes over the long term.
I talk about leadership being a process that requires time and conscious effort to expand in knowledge and experience. Too often we see people wanting to take big step jumps in their careers, without really taking the time to think about how they can enhance their skill sets or develop more knowledge. The key here is adopting a growth mindset, and I encourage you to ask yourself important questions about what kind of leader you want to be, and what steps you can begin to take to get there.
I talk about the importance of a healthy framework of support within an organisation that can enable emerging leaders to grow. What is the culture around having open conversations? Is there psychological safety and genuine trust in the organisation, where people can speak up and support each other? I also discuss how a supportive environment can help promote new perspective and innovation in leadership roles, and help people truly develop the necessary skills for their appointed roles.
So, whether you're a seasoned leader, an emerging one or someone who's keen on understanding the dynamics of evolving leadership, this episode has something valuable for you.
Remember, the journey to greatness is not about rushing toward a fixed destination; it's about embracing the evolution that transforms you into the leader you're meant to be.
So, hit that play button and get started on your journey towards becoming the best version of yourself as a leader in your industry. Your future self will thank you for it.
Happy listening!

Today I’m doing something that I haven’t done a lot on the podcast before, which is sharing some personal thoughts I’m grappling with, the challenges I’m facing and the new ideas that I’ve been exploring about our industry. I also take you behind the scenes and share what to expect next, both in my business and on the podcast.
As a property project manager and coach, I have loved being able to support women one-on-one to build their careers and navigate the challenges that come with working in the property industry. However, as my work has expanded to developing teams and leaders within organisations, I’ve seen a need to create better places of work for people across the board.
I talk about the need to shift from only giving lip service to topics like equity and diversity, to actively engaging in conversations and working to implement lasting changes. While supporting women to create positive change within our industry still absolutely aligns with my vision, my passion for helping facilitate employee wellbeing more broadly has grown. I share what this means for my business and how I’m working to further embody the values that I bring to my work.
Addressing challenging topics head-on can be scary. I admit that I’ve personally shied away from discussing certain issues on the podcast that have always been on the list. I’ve experienced the fear of getting it wrong, causing offense or sharing a view I haven’t fully articulated for myself yet. However, I’ve come to realise that it’s a disservice to both my audience and myself, because even though these conversations are messy, they are crucial.
To really see change and come up with the best solutions to move our industry forward, we need to share our ideas. We must poke and prompt one another, whether we agree with the opinions being shared or not. We mustn’t be afraid of getting it wrong but accept that we might, and be open to growing from our mistakes.
My commitment to my beautiful podcast community is this: to face up to the difficult stuff, to welcome all perspectives and to give myself permission to be working things out.
Join me today so we can begin the types of conversations that lead us all to better workplaces, true wellbeing and more fulfilling, rewarding careers.

I recently gave a presentation to a group of women in the early stages of their careers, who asked me to share my best advice on what I’ve learnt throughout the journey of my own career. I’ve put a lot of thought into this question, and today I run through the five lessons I would share with my younger self, in the hopes it could help change your career trajectory for the better.
We know that in any area of life, confidence is key. I believe there are a number of skills we need to develop in order to grow this and begin to show up more confidently. Building confidence is a process that takes time, and I discuss what I’ve found to be crucial in cultivating self-belief. I talk about how factors such as gender, ethnicity and orientation can add layers of difficulty, and how you can work to overcome them, no matter your circumstance.
There’s no sugarcoating it - consistency can be boring as hell. However, while it might not be the most glamorous aspect of career growth, I believe it is the fastest way to success. Consistent effort and dedication are what distinguish the good from the great, and I share my thoughts on how doing the grunt work and focusing on the day-to-day grind can be a real differentiator for people in the job market.
Over the years, I’ve learnt the value and significance of having a dynamic support system. Surrounding yourself with peers, mentors and advocates who challenge and uplift you can lead to tremendous personal and professional growth. While self-motivation is important, I discuss how having external accountability can push you to excel beyond your comfort zone.
I’m a huge believer in education and am constantly investing in myself for my personal and professional growth. While I’ve leaned heavily into traditional education, I recognise there is no one right way to develop our skills. A combination of different learning methods tailored to your career goals can yield exceptional results. However you decide to do it, I encourage you to know that you are your greatest asset, back yourself fully and get to making a plan.
Bad days and challenging experiences in the workplace are painful, yet can be invaluable teachers. While nobody hopes for hardship, it inevitably arises, and I reflect on my own journey of weathering storms throughout my career. I share my advice on how to view trials as catalysts for growth, and how these moments shape your character, refine your values, and enable you to thrive in the face of adversity.
If you’re in the early days of your career and looking to build yourself a strong foundation, this episode is for you. I encourage you to take hold of the lessons I’ve learnt and apply them to your own life, knowing you’ll start to see the beginnings of a fulfilling career that you truly love.

Today I’m shining a light on self-sabotage, a topic I personally know all too well. It’s something I also see crop up time and again in the lives of my clients and peers, and know just how damaging its effects can be. In this episode, we’ll explore the different forms of self-sabotage, discuss how to normalise it and talk practical ways to stop it from taking hold in our lives.
At its core, self-sabotage is the tendency to undermine our own efforts and goals, often without us even realising it. While the process of self-sabotage is one of self-protection, it actually causes us to engage in unconstructive behaviour and pull us away from what we really want.
It can manifest in two primary ways: creating problems that conflict with our objectives or failing to take necessary actions that lead to success. Many of us experience self-sabotage at various points in our lives, and it's essential to recognise the patterns of behaviour that often go unobserved.
I discuss overcoming self-sabotage by developing self-awareness and identifying the habits that hold us back. Common signs of self-sabotage include:
While it’s important to recognise the ways in which self-sabotage manifests, it doesn’t end there. We must implement the tools and strategies that will help us take control over our actions and change the ways of operating we often default to.
I take you through seven key steps you can take to overcome self-sabotage, which include things like clarifying your goals, mastering executive function and challenging perfectionism. I also discuss the importance of shifting our mindset to one of growth, in order to keep us moving forward to those big goals we have for ourselves.
Remember, self-sabotage is a common human experience, and it's okay to encounter it. By understanding the ways self-sabotage shows up in your life and taking intentional actions to move forward, you can break free from its grip and create the outcomes you truly desire.
Take one step at a time, and you'll see progress towards your goals. Be patient, be persistent and remember, you've got this!

Communication is a critical skill in every sphere of life, and understanding when to voice our thoughts or when to simply observe can make a significant difference in our relationships, personal development, and professional growth.
In my previous episode, I spoke about why it’s important to find the courage to use our voice when we have something to say and shared my advice on how to do that. In this episode, I want to explore the other side of communication, those moments where we need to remain silent and actively listen.
Active listening is not just about hearing; it's about understanding the speaker's intent. Unlike passive listening, active listening involves fully focusing on the speaker and striving to understand their message, instead of planning our response simultaneously.
It's about diving deeper into the conversation and recognising the emotions, motives, and non-verbal cues that often accompany verbal communication. By practising active listening, we can foster a more nuanced understanding of conversations and respond in a manner that is truly informed and thoughtful.
Through active listening and discerning when silence is appropriate, we can profoundly transform our conversations and interactions. So, whether in your personal life or professional space, try applying these principles and notice the transformation!
If you missed my previous episode exploring when you should speak up, please do give it a listen. I hope you enjoy this episode and as always, let's strive to bring about positive change in the world!

Do you ever have those moments where you feel you should speak up, but are unsure if your opinion is relevant or even welcome?
I see this come up time and again, particularly for women in the workplace. However, I believe we can all find the confidence to speak our mind when we understand how and when to best communicate our message.
Across the next couple of episodes, I’ll be sharing ideas around when to speak up, when to be silent and how to build the skill of effective communication.
In today’s episode, I’m talking about how we must continue to uplevel our communication and find the courage to use our voice when we have something to say. When it comes to speaking up either for ourselves, to share an idea or to promote change, it’s often very challenging. Women in particular may hesitate to assert themselves due to the fear of backlash or self-doubt.
However, this can ultimately lead to missed opportunities, not only for you but for your team or organisation as well. I talk about the importance of pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones and embracing the discomfort when it comes to sharing our opinions. Speaking up for change often means going against the grain and meeting opposition, but it’s only through the act of speaking up that progress is made.
While I encourage you to be courageous in finding your voice, I also discuss the careful consideration that’s necessary so that your message has the impact you intended. Empathy, respect and a willingness to listen can make all the difference when approaching a difficult conversation. This fosters open and constructive dialogue, and can help create a collective vision for positive change.
I also acknowledge that not every idea or thought needs to be shared, and encourage you to know your intention so that you can evaluate whether it will truly move the conversation forward.
I know that speaking up can be scary. But if you don’t do it, who will? When you’re feeling the fear, remember that your voice matters. There’s power in showing up authentically and knowing what you stand for. In the end, those you work with and for will thank you for speaking up to create a better future for your industry.

For many of us, life gets busy and we put so much focus on achieving our future goals. This causes us to run on autopilot, and we forget to stop and actually smell the roses or appreciate the little things that bring joy. Today I’m talking about shifting perspective and how this allows us to not only enjoy the present moment, but to get closer towards attaining our goals.
It’s all too easy to succumb to the victim mentality when things don’t go as we hope or plan. This can be dangerous to our wellbeing and trajectory, and we often let our disappointments define us. However, adopting a positive outlook on your life is how you find resilience in the face of adversity and see better outcomes in all types of situations.
While it’s unfortunately not something we’re taught as kids in school, shifting perspective is a skill that we can still learn and practice as adults. I’m a strong believer that changing your mindset will open up new possibilities, allow you to connect more deeply with others and find so much more fulfilment in your life.
So how do we go about shifting perspective or reframing a situation? In this episode, I cover the different ways you can find the gratitude and clarity you need for a better way of life, such as:
When we’re willing to do the work and challenge ourselves, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and healthier ways of being. It just takes some determination and a commitment to practise. You’ve got this, my friend!
So join me today as I share how you can shift to a mindset that unlocks your potential and supports you to create a future filled with growth, connection and joy.

Time and time again, I have conversations with people who are striving to have impactful lives and fulfilling careers, but feel like their potential is all locked up inside. And the question I always ask is, are you investing in your own success?
Today on the podcast, I’m talking about unlocking your potential by identifying and prioritising those things that will help you achieve your goals and level up in your career.
Investing in our own success is a concept that often goes overlooked. We tend to focus on external factors and wait for opportunities to come our way, rather than taking proactive steps to unlock our potential. But the truth is, we are our biggest assets, and it's up to us to invest in our own growth and development. By doing so, we can tap into our full potential, increase our impact and create the fulfilling careers and lives we dream of.
I believe that fortune favours the brave, and it's up to us to take the necessary steps to back ourselves in growing our abilities and our impact through our work and lives. We can't rely on external factors or wait for opportunities to come to us. Instead, we must take ownership of our own growth and development and do the work. By doing so, we can take control of our trajectory, rather than waiting for things to happen by chance.
It’s time to stop thinking small and to remember that you are worth investing in. While it’s easy to underestimate our own value and potential, we need to shift our mindset and start realising that we are our biggest assets. By taking ownership of our actions and being proactive, we show up in power and create better outcomes for ourselves.
Taking ownership of our success also means having a clear dream or goal and believing in our ability to achieve it. We can't wait for someone else to recognise our potential or offer us opportunities. Instead, we must step up, take action and cultivate our own opportunities. This requires holding space for ourselves, envisioning what is possible and then going after it with determination.
We only have one life, and it's time to stop letting fear hold us back. It's time to start thinking big and living as the person we want to be. So let's get clear on what we want, lean into self-belief and invest all that we can into becoming the best version of ourselves.

I’m very excited to be with you today for what is our 50th episode! I’ve been loving the past year of sharing my ideas and the ideas of others in the hope that we can move forward as a community of women in the property and construction industry.
Today on the podcast, I’m talking all about emotional intelligence and why it’s vital for both leaders and team members to cultivate and utilise this important skill in the workplace.
For a long time, EQ, or emotional quotient, has been seen as a touchy-feely, soft skill of sorts. However, it’s my belief that developing a strong emotional intelligence has never been more important, particularly as we see the emergence and the increasing prevalence of AI.
So what actually is EQ? Commonly referred to as emotional intelligence, it's how effectively we express emotions both in ourselves and how we recognise it in other people. To help understand where its value lies, I run through the variety of skills EQ encompasses. This includes competencies around emotion, self-awareness, empathy and communication skills.
As the saying goes, people don’t leave organisations; they leave managers. And I’m sure anyone that’s had a less-than-great manager can resonate with that. I share my own difficult experience of working under someone with a low EQ, and emphasise the need for leaders to connect with their teams in a way that retains talent and helps them thrive.
I discuss how being in tune emotionally is also important if you’re a team member. Developing skills to make others feel seen and heard can create better outcomes for everyone involved in a project and open up opportunities you may not have otherwise seen.
I truly believe that anyone can develop the skill of emotional intelligence, and that it just takes putting our innate skills of human connection into practice. I hope this episode supports you to achieve an even better standard of communication and show up in life and work as the best version of you.

Striving for perfection is all too common, especially for women. We tend to hold ourselves to a standard that can be impossible to achieve. This often leads to procrastination and self-criticism, making it difficult to move forward. Today, I’m talking about progress over perfection, and how embracing this mindset can change the way we work and live.
Perfectionism is hard to define, and even harder to attain. It makes us feel stuck when we fall short of the unfair expectations we have for ourselves. Our self-esteem erodes and we’re prevented from taking action to get what we really want. However, changing our way of thinking and accepting that we are all beautifully flawed has the power to lift us out of self-doubt.
In this episode, I discuss the pitfalls of perfectionism and the negative effects they have on our confidence and wellbeing – particularly as women in a male-dominated industry. When we second-guess our own abilities, we miss out on the opportunities that can take us to the next level or see us achieving the goals we’ve set for ourselves.
So how is the ideal of perfectionism impacting you? Is your fear of the messy middle holding you back from taking action? I believe that mistakes are the best way to learn, and that accepting our own imperfections sets us free to take more risks and step into creativity. This is how we see the power of growth at work in our lives and create the kind of momentum that propels us forward.
Letting go of perfectionism requires compassion, not only for ourselves but for those around us. By extending kindness, we create a more inclusive environment that allows us all to thrive.
Life is a journey to be enjoyed, and I encourage you to seek opportunities to experience it in full, whether or not things look perfect. My aim today is that you’ll be inspired to let go of fear, get moving and embrace the beauty of being human.

Today we’re talking about values, and how understanding what truly matters to you will help you find harmony within your work. In this episode, we’ll explore the power of value alignment and how it can lead to greater fulfilment, joy and success in your career.
So what actually are values? Values are what really matter to us, and are fundamental to how we live our lives. When we are clear on what is important to us, our values become the guiding principles that support our decisions and the actions we take.
Finding harmony at work can be especially challenging when there is a disconnect between your values and those of your organisation. Work can feel draining, and conflict can often arise. However, true value alignment will not only help build a supportive, trusting environment, but will lead to better outcomes for you and those you serve through your work.
Today I give you some prompts to help you discover what your top values are, and get clear on what really drives you. I encourage you to be honest with yourself, knowing that there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to what you value.
When we show up as our authentic selves in alignment with those around us, we make room for community and collaboration. We create a sense of shared purpose and a vision that brings people together. Not only does this serve your organisation, it allows you to thrive in your career as the best, most genuine version of yourself.
So carve out some time, grab your notebook and pen, and discover the values that truly speak to who you are. Once you find this clarity, you’ll be on your way to creating the life and career you’ve been dreaming of.

As a leader, identifying and harnessing your strengths is a powerful way to maximise the impact and influence you have in your business. I was recently asked what my own personal superpowers are, and the first thing that came to mind was the skill of effective stakeholder management.
In today’s episode, I talk about how I’ve cultivated the ability to successfully engage with a wide range of people and how you can implement this strategy in your own work.
There are often a variety of people and many moving parts when working on a project, and managing competing interests can be a complex process. However, identifying who the different stakeholders involved are and understanding what is important to each individual is crucial in delivering the best possible outcomes for all parties involved.
What are their concerns, desires and fears around the project? What is the best outcome they’re hoping for, and what is the worst?
I believe that how you engage with all stakeholders, whether they are directly or indirectly impacted by the work you are doing, is a direct reflection of your or your organisation’s brand. I discuss the three values I lead with when engaging with others, and the power they have to leave a lasting, positive impression and enhance your reputation within your field.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to stakeholder management, and I encourage you to embrace your natural style when it comes to communicating and engaging with others. Leading with authenticity is key in establishing those relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
Effective stakeholder management is a skill that anyone can cultivate, and an important one that will set you apart from the rest. I hope this episode inspires you to identify your own unique set of strengths, and how they can be used to position yourself for success in any interaction.

Have you ever taken the time to sit down and re-evaluate what you want from life? Or gotten really clear on what will make you the most fulfilled in your work, and how you’ll get there?
Redefining success as we grow and change over time is an important exercise that often gets overlooked as we get busier and our to-do lists get longer. I’m a big believer in having clear goals, and today I encourage you to get intentional in discovering or re-assessing what success means in your life.
As we grow and change over time, it’s perfectly fitting that our goals and objectives evolve with us. However, we often cling so tightly to our old ideas and measures of success, that these outdated ideals prevent us from taking opportunities to move forward or create a new and exciting path.
To really get clear on how you define success, you need to have clear measures in place that indicate you’ve achieved what you’re after. Do you have a figure in mind of your earnings that means you’re successful? Are there priorities such as time with family or time spent traveling you’ll have achieved that indicate you’re on the right path?
Think about the last time you evaluated your measures of success. Do those indicators still apply to you today? Are they still what you want for your life, and are they representative of what you wish to achieve today? Updating the ideas we had for ourselves 5 or 10 years ago doesn’t mean we betray what we set out to do in the past, but means we become loyal to who we are in the present.
The previous idea of how you wanted life to look does not have to be your forever goal anymore, and I encourage you to give yourself permission to create a new future that truly aligns with the values you cherish today. Let go of what no longer serves you and make the choices that are right for you in this moment.
I hope this episode inspires you to carve out that time for yourself and really get to the heart of what you truly desire. I believe that knowing what you want as the person you are today will be the north star that guides you to the most meaningful version of your work and your life.

How do you handle the times when everything is not going to plan? When the going gets tough and all you want to do is curl up in a ball?
Building resilience is such an important topic because every single one of us will go through lows in our careers and personal lives where our strengths and skills will be the only things that pull us through.
In this episode, I’m sharing how you can start building resilience in your lives from this very moment. Because you can’t build resilience when you’re in the low moments and you’re drained, exhausted and feeling overwhelmed. You have to build it when you feel strong, confident and in control.
Building skills in resilience allows you to see that there is a way forward, there is light at the end of the tunnel and you can sit with the discomfort of the challenges knowing that you are strong enough to withstand it.
So, today I’m giving you some of the tools and exercises I get my clients to do to build their own resilience. We’ll look at building the person you want to show up as in every moment, not just when everything is going well.
And, remember, if you’re struggling right now, please seek help. Reach out to a friend, a family member, or a professional service that can support you in this time, because we all need to be able to talk about what's on our minds to find clarity and peace.

I’ve worked in the property and development industry for a long time and I know first hand how challenging it can be to be the only woman in the room. It has traditionally been very male-dominated, especially with women being very underrepresented in leadership roles. But I’m here to tell you that we need women as leaders and I want to help you to take that next step.
In this episode, I’ll take you through how you can be a leader in your position, organisation and role right now. You don’t need to wait until you get promoted or you find a new job. You can start showing up, taking up space and becoming a leader for yourself and your colleagues right now.
We need women in leadership roles to bring diversity to the industry. We know that women bring unique perspectives, experiences, and ideas to the table, which will lead to more innovative and creative solutions.
As a leader, you can bring others on the journey with you because women who see other women in positions of power may be more likely to believe that they can achieve the same level of success. This can help to break down gender stereotypes and encourage more women to consider careers in property and construction.
I encourage you to seek out and find mentors in your network. If you can’t find any – go searching. Finding somebody who will give you wisdom, experience, advice, and advocate for you will help propel you forward in your own career. And then you can help other women to do the same.
I’m sharing with you six very useful strategies that you can start employing today in your job to set you on the path to leadership. Grab a pen and paper and write these down!
Women have such a crucial role to play as leaders in the property and construction industry and I want to help you step into your own leadership skills. By bringing diversity, inspiring others, driving success, and creating a supportive workplace culture, women can help to shape the future of this industry for the better.

One of the most important steps to building a career you love is visibility. How do people recognise you? How do people know what you do and what you stand for?
As a woman in property and in construction, or in any male-dominated space, it can feel extremely uncomfortable to spotlight our own work and what we are doing. For most women, that does not come naturally. But if we want to take the next step in our careers we need to shine a light on what we're doing and speak up and advocate for ourselves.
This is what building a personal brand is all about. It is what elevates you and sets you apart from your peers.
This is what we explore in the podcast today. I share six prompts to help you build your personal brand:
My final takeaway for you is to not overcomplicate it. Don't get stuck on your brand needing to be perfect or your messaging needing to be spot on all the time. You need to start where you are and tweak and refine this as you go. Give yourself the freedom to make mistakes because you won't learn anything if you don't put yourself out there.
Your personal brand is one of the most effective ways to create the career and life that you want. And the best time to start building it is right now.

On today’s episode we are talking about the art of authentic leadership. This is a conversation I'm really excited to have because the shift to authentic leadership is something that we've really seen take prominence in the last few years.
I explore with you what it means to be an authentic leader and why it’s important for each of us to show up in an authentic way. I look at how authentic leadership serves our organisations, our teams and our industries in a meaningful way. I also explore the challenges that we have in our industry around authenticity.
Often this idea of authentic leadership is tied to vulnerability and, showing up as who we are. This can be really challenging at work, particularly for women in our industry. For such a long time in order to be successful in property and construction, you very much had to conform to the male way of doing things.
I also explain why authenticity is not just about leaders showing up authentically, it's actually part of a much broader cultural shift that needs to occur within property and construction. I discuss why we need to tackle this cultural shift head-on and how it requires a fundamental shift in terms of mindset and behaviours, not only for leaders but also for employees at all levels of an organization.
We also need to talk about the opportunities for women within these organisations. How do we develop female talent, given the unconscious bias (and sometimes outright discrimination) that to this day continues for women in this industry?
Sometimes this change will face resistance. Some people really struggle with this idea of showing up as their true selves in a work context. People are hesitant to show up as being vulnerable or to express their emotions for fear of judgment, for fear of rejection or repercussions.
As we drive change and as we try to address some of these issues the cultural change that goes along with it is not something that can happen subtly or that we can expect to just filter down. It is something that we need to be talking about openly and exploring across organisations.
When leaders do this well and when they set up a cultural shift to create an environment of authenticity across their workforce, that is when compassionate leadership shows up.
So take heed, show up with courage, show up with conviction and be your own authentic self. The more each of us can show up authentically and encourage others to do the same, the better our industries will be.

Reverse engineering your career is a great way to take control of your professional development and achieve your goals.
We can use reverse engineering by starting with the end goal in mind and working backwards to determine the steps needed to reach that goal. In other words, instead of blindly following a traditional career path and hoping opportunities present themselves, you're intentionally designing your own path based on your desired outcome.
In this episode, I explore how you can use this method to direct your career to achieve your ultimate goals and outcomes. We’ll look at the benefits and steps and examine any potential pitfalls so you can look out for them as they come your way.
Step 1: Define Your End Goal
The first step is to identify your end goal. Ask yourself: What do I want to achieve in my career? Do I want to become a CEO, start my own business, or become a recognised expert in a particular field? Whatever your goal may be, write it down and be as specific as possible.
Step 2: Research Your Goal
Once you've identified your end goal, start researching what it takes to achieve it. Look at people who have already achieved what you want to achieve and study their career paths. What skills, education, and experiences did they have? What steps did they take to get where they are?
Step 3: Draw out your roadmap
After conducting your research, it's time to map out your roadmap. Determine what skills you need to develop, what education you need to obtain, any soft skills you need to practice and what experiences you need to gain. Break down your plan into manageable steps and set specific timelines for each step.
Step 4: Go for it!
Finally, execute your plan. Take the steps you've mapped out and put them into action. Keep in mind that your plan may change as you progress, and that's okay. Be flexible and adjust your plan as needed.
By following this method you’ll have more control over your career path, are more likely to achieve your goals because you have a clear plan, design a career path that is unique to you and aligns with your values and interests and ensures that you develop skills and gain experience that will make you more valuable to employers and leadership positions.
But remember, your plan may not work out as expected, it can be difficult to predict future trends and changes in the job market, and you may miss out on opportunities that come your way because you're so focused on your end goal.
Reverse engineering your career can be a great way to take control of your professional development and achieve your goals. With a clear plan, hard work, and flexibility, you can create a career path that is unique to you and aligns with your values and interests.

Are you feeling stuck in your career?
Do you find yourself doubting your abilities and questioning your worthiness for that promotion or new opportunity?
If so, you're not alone. I’ve worked with many professionals who are experiencing self-doubt, but what sets successful individuals apart is their unwavering self-belief. Self-belief is the foundation of a thriving career, and it's time to unlock its power to propel you to new heights.
In this episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes to look at how I developed my own self-belief and where I believe it will take me moving forward. Hopefully my journey will inspire you to take the time and space to grow your own self-belief because it really is vital to take bold action in your career.
Through running, I became incredibly committed, resilient and learned to stick to the plan even if I didn't like it. I stopped waiting for motivation to take action and was clear on my goals. I honestly think that running and running marathons has been one of the greatest gifts I have given myself because it proved to me I could do it. It instilled for me what self-belief can do and gifted me the willingness to show up and do the work.
When you believe in yourself, others are more likely to believe in you too. Self-belief fuels confidence, allowing you to take risks, speak up in meetings, and tackle challenges with a positive mindset. Learn to embrace your strengths and accomplishments, and let your self-belief shine through, boosting your confidence and paving the way for career growth.
I’ll take you through my own path of finding something to work towards and feel fulfilment beyond my career to every other area of my life.
When you believe in yourself, you’re more likely to face obstacles with resilience and perseverance. You see setbacks as temporary roadblocks rather than insurmountable barriers. Your self-belief gives you the inner strength and determination to keep going, even in the face of adversity and step up to become an incredible leader.

Knowing the right questions to ask in the workplace can make a world of difference to your career and open up opportunities for progression and promotion. This ability to take the time to inquire, seek clarification, and understand expectations through thoughtful questions can dramatically impact your performance, relationships, and overall success in the workplace.
In this episode, I’m sharing and exploring how asking your boss this, often overlooked, #1 question will show your manager and your organisation that you’re a valuable asset that is dedicated to the trajectory of the business.
How can I support you to succeed? This simple yet powerful question shows your boss that you’re not just focused on your own success, but also genuinely interested in supporting their success as well. It shows that you are willing to go beyond your regular job responsibilities and actively contribute to the success of the team and the organisation. This can help build trust and rapport with your boss, as they see you as someone who is not just focused on your own career, but also invested in the overall success of the team.
Your boss may have specific areas where they need help or where you can contribute your skills and expertise. This can provide you with the chance to take on new responsibilities, learn new skills, and expand your knowledge, which can enhance your career development and growth prospects
Seize the opportunity to become an ally with your manager and support them to create greatness and achieve big outcomes in their role. They’ll start viewing you as a champion of them and, in turn, it will build trust and respect. This relationship could build over time and last well down the track, even if you’re no longer working together.
Start thinking of how you can position yourself in the business as the person who gets things done and actively supports others in their journey. You’ll increase your own value and make yourself a desirable asset within your role and within the industry as a whole.

A quandary that most of us will be confronted with at various points in our careers is whether or not it’s time to quit your job. Forging a new pathway in your career can be daunting because it often means leaving a certain level of security and familiarity behind. This is why it’s so important to take ownership of your decisions, knowing that you are the one driving your career.
Today I want to talk about when it might be time to move on and start with a new organisation and some of the factors to consider when faced with this decision. This episode is all about helping you to gain awareness of your current situation and looking at your situation from an objective perspective to determine what is best for you.
First of all, it’s really important to understand what is motivating you to consider leaving your job. I share some of the key motivations which might be relevant to you. Perhaps you have outgrown your role, you’re looking for something more exciting or you experienced a terrible day and want to move on. Whatever the case, it’s important to understand your motivations for wanting to leave and explore all the opportunities in front of you.
Think about what else you have done about the situation and if there are roles within your current organisation that you could move toward. We will always be faced with difficult situations in the workplace at some point so make sure that you are running toward something, not running away in fear, frustration or anger. If you are running away, you’ll almost certainly run into a similar circumstance somewhere down the track.
When you are considering a career move, it’s so important to make sure that your transition is aligned with your goals and career master plan. Don’t just take any job so that you can pay the bills. Continue to keep your dreams in the forefront and make decisions according to what you really want, not just what is easy. Be really intentional about your next move and bold enough to have challenging conversations to make sure you’re in the best possible situation.
I encourage you to listen with an open mind today and think about where you are in terms of your career transition. Be really honest with yourself as you answer some of the prompts so that you can gain insight into your own thinking. Understanding what is driving your decisions is really powerful and from this place, you will make an informed and intentional decision that forges you ahead in the right direction.

A lack of confidence is something that I see holding women back all the time. Some women struggle with a lack of self-belief and others have the inclination to avoid self-promotion or don’t want to appear egotistical, which means they show up less confident and miss out on opportunities presented to them.
Confidence isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s something you need to keep cultivating in your life, so today I’m sharing 11 ways to boost your confidence so you can begin to see the benefits unfold in both your professional and personal life.
I talk about leaning into your strengths and understanding what it means for you to be the most authentic version of yourself. It’s so important to know what makes you unique because these strengths are your superpowers if you allow yourself to embrace them.
So often women downplay their achievements, which is why it’s all the more important to make a conscious habit of celebrating every win. I talk about creating a “brag book” where you collect evidence of all you’ve achieved so you can look back on your successes and celebrate your achievements.
If you want to boost your confidence, it’s important to know your skill gaps and take action where you need it most. Think about what skills or experience you need to keep progressing in your career and look out for role models you admire. It’s so beneficial to have a network of people around you who inspire you, encourage you and demonstrate the attitudes and behaviours that you want in your own life.
So much of confidence is about having a growth mindset. Mistakes will always be part of the journey, so it’s about learning from these mistakes and challenging yourself to make sure you are constantly working towards something bigger.
I also talk about practising self care, which expands into curating your environment and taking ownership over how you show up and the words you say to yourself and others. Self care looks different for everyone, so it’s important to understand what helps you feel the best version of yourself. This might mean leaning towards more positive people and experiences and also detoxing from people and environments that have a negative impact on you.
Confidence starts with showing up and being who you are, even when it feels scary and intimidating. When you understand the value that you bring, your self-belief will grow. I hope this episode encourages you and gives you some practical strategies you can put in place to begin to foster a greater level of self confidence.

A successful career isn’t necessarily about getting promoted every year but if you’re feeling stuck and not moving forward the way you want to, this is a very frustrating place to be.
I am passionate about helping women progress in their careers in strategic and considered ways so they can make a bigger impact, love what they do and be in alignment with their greater vision. So today, I’m sharing some of the telltale signs that your career has stalled and 4 steps you can take to get unstuck.
There are times in your career when you need to slow down, spend time developing your skills and hone in on the role that you’re in. However, there is a difference between these times of mastery and feeling like your career has hit a lull.
One of the big signs that your career has stalled is that every day feels the same. If you’re bored, you’re performing the same functions and could do your job on autopilot, it’s time to find a new challenge.
In this episode, I talk about taking a good look at your career journey and observing any patterns that may have evolved. This includes not being promoted, being excluded from meetings or opportunities that you used to be involved in and colleagues no longer seeking out your advice. These are all signs that your career has stalled.
The good news is that once you recognise that your career has stalled, you can take appropriate action to revive your career, find new opportunities and move toward where you want to go.
I share the 4 steps you can take to start moving forward, beginning with being honest with yourself. Perhaps you haven’t embraced challenges or pushed yourself out of your comfort zone enough. When we avoid opportunities to grow and stretch, we miss out on being able to develop the skills and disciplines we need to step into something new. Think about where you want to be and get clear on what you want. It’s important to think about the short term and the long term so you have a goal to work towards.
Your career might have also stalled because of an unsupportive manager. I talk about why you need to have an open conversation with your boss about your career progression and be open to their feedback. It might not be what you want to hear, but this is an incredible opportunity to learn, grow and be open to new insights.
Finally, it’s time to initiate the change. This is about you deciding that you are going to take the next step and be willing to embrace the next challenge in your career. You might be feeling stuck now, but if you’re honest with yourself, clear on what you want and willing to take a risk, you will begin to move forward in leaps and bounds.

How do we get more done without working harder or longer hours?
This is a topic that is very close to my heart because having experienced burnout myself, I know the temptation to keep pushing to do more. But with limited hours in the day, when our work starts to consume more and more hours, it means that we stop having the time for self-care and for cultivating those relationships that matter to us outside work.
No matter how hard we work or how many hours we put in, there is always going to be more to do. So - it all comes down to how we use our time most effectively. How do we maximize our impact in the time we have so that we have the time and the space and the mental capacity to do other things beyond just our work?
In the episode, I explain the importance of planning our time in order to maximize our productivity, and two techniques that will help you do this.
Developing the skill of applying these techniques will serve you for the rest of your life. This is crucial if you want to have a successful, impactful and thriving career, but they are also key to having the health, lifestyle and relationships you desire as well.
These techniques require us to engage our pre-frontal cortex and look strategically at all the things we need to do and the order they need to get done in. I explain why we need to do this planning in advance so that we make use of our big-picture thinking.
First of all, I take you through the concept of time boxing - allocating the maximum amount of time that it takes to complete a task. This technique holds us accountable to ourselves and stops things from spilling over and eating up more time than they should Secondly, I run through time blocking - looking at your day or at your week and allocating time for different activities.
Engaging these techniques makes sure that how we spend our time is reflective of the life that we want to live and reflective of the values we have. They allow us to show up and do the important, impactful work, without spending longer at our desks without wasting time thinking about what we need to do next and without jeopardizing what is most important to us.
Take these ideas on board and start applying them and test them out. Get familiar with them, and keep practicing their application until you are well versed in effectively planning your time so that you can get more done without having to work more.
These techniques will allow you to do your most impactful work, and make sure that you are creating a career and a lifestyle that are aligned with your values and the person you want to be.

Adversity is a very normal part of life and work. It can come in many different forms, such as a difficult project, a disagreement with a colleague, a challenging boss, or even a personal issue that is affecting your performance at work.
So how do we deal with it and move on?
In this episode, I’m sharing my key tools and tips for dealing with adversity at work. This isn’t something you can run away or hide from because if you want to become great leaders, you have to find ways of handling the difficult and challenging conversations to move the entire team forward.
One of the best ways to deal with adversity is to stay positive and focused. Try to see the situation as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than a setback or failure. This can help you approach the challenge with a more open mind and a willingness to find solutions.
Another key strategy is to communicate effectively. Talk to your colleagues or supervisor about the situation and try to come up with a plan of action together. This can help you feel more supported and less alone, and can also lead to more effective solutions.
It's also important to take care of yourself during times of adversity. This may mean taking breaks when you need them, seeking support from friends or family outside of work, or practicing self-care activities such as exercise or meditation.
And above all, remember that adversity can be a valuable learning experience. By facing challenges and working through them, you can develop new skills and insights that can help you in the future.
I know that dealing with adversity at work can be tough, but if you stay positive, use your amazing communication skills, check in with yourself, and use every opportunity as a learning experience you can navigate through difficult times and come out stronger on the other side with new skills, experiences and relationships.

Confidence is an absolutely essential ingredient for success in every field and empowers us to take risks, embrace challenges, and pursue our passions without fear of failure. In the workplace, it’s especially important because it can directly impact career progression, job satisfaction, and even financial stability.
Everything begins with self-confidence but what do you do when you don’t feel you have any?
Let’s first take a quick look at the difference between self-confidence and confidence.
Confidence is the general belief or trust in your abilities and is based on your past experiences, skills, knowledge, and feedback from others. For example, you may have confidence in your ability to give a presentation because you have successfully done so in the past or have received positive feedback from your peers.
Whereas, self-confidence refers specifically to a belief in yourself. It’s the belief that you have the ability to succeed in a given situation or task, regardless of external factors or feedback from others.
In today’s episode I’m going to share five steps to build your confidence, the common pitfalls I see people make when trying to build confidence, and I’ll finish up by giving you tips to really help you supercharge your own self-belief, self-confidence and create the amazing results you’re working so hard to achieve.
I know that building confidence is not easy, but it’s a skill that can be learned and consistently improved. One way we’ll look at to start building confidence is by setting achievable goals for yourself and celebrating your successes along the way. This can help you recognize your strengths and build a positive mindset.
It's also essential to remember that failure is a natural part of the learning process. Instead of letting setbacks discourage you, use them as opportunities to learn, grow and develop resilience and adaptability, which will help your career absolutely thrive.

Previously, we’ve been taught that if we perform well at work, we’ll advance further in our careers. All throughout our education journey, the final outcome is determined by the amount of work we put in and our performance BUT, in the real world, that isn’t enough anymore.
In today’s conversation, I’m exploring why being good at your job isn’t enough to progress, obtain leadership positions and receive promotions.
Typically, girls outperform boys academically throughout their high school years and into university. Women have shown time and time again that they’re great at academics, at absorbing knowledge, applying it, sitting exams, and performing well in the educational environment.
But that successful background doesn’t seem to translate into women in leadership - somewhere along the way there is a disconnect. We need to understand this to narrow down the roadblocks and obstacles that are keeping us stuck and stopping us from advancing further.
Tune in today to learn my practical strategies that you can start using today to propel your career forward and create your own opportunities. Remember, the sooner we realize and acknowledge that our brains, knowledge, skills and experience are very valuable commodities, the sooner we can be rewarded and compensated fairly.

International Women's Day is coming up just around the corner and every year it reignites a conversation around women's roles in society. If you've been listening for a while, you’ll know how passionate I am about seeing more women in leadership positions within male dominated industries and recognised fairly for their contributions across society.
There is a tremendous opportunity for us to break through glass ceilings and be present at the table in the decision making process but to do that we need to show up as leaders.
But what do I mean by that?
Our own preconceived notions of leadership and leaders are often very wrong. We often visualise old white men wearing suits and sitting in positions of authority dictating the trajectory of a company but that’s not the case anymore.
In this episode, I’m sharing four common myths about leadership so we can rethink how you may be a leader in your career and in your personal lifes.
The four most common myths we’ll explore are:
So I encourage you to step up as a leader today wherever you are in your career journey. The most effective leaders are the people who choose to take on that role, know who they are, and are clear on their values and the impact they want to have. You can decide the mark you’re going to make in the world and how you want to change things using your own very unique leadership style.

I often talk about the patriarchy that exists within the property industry with the boys clubs, mansplaining, and frequent assumptions but the amazing truth is, we currently have the highest levels of female participation than ever before. More and more women are beginning their career journey or progressing into higher roles and it is an incredible time to be involved.
So, to honour all of the remarkable women around me, in today’s episode I am talking about seizing the opportunities to become a leader in the property and construction industry.
I’ve seen time and time again how passion, desire, willingness and having the courage to put your hand up and seize the opportunities around lead to spectacular career outcomes. Now, I know that's easy for me to just say and it can be terrifying to actually do, but the truth is, until we are willing to step up and say “This is what I want” nothing will change and we’ll often be overlooked for any new roles.
We have to step out of our comfort zone, be courageous to get uncomfortable, ask for the opportunity and trust ourselves that we will figure out how to do the new role. Leaders are not born, as in any job they learn their skills and you will too by putting yourself in a position of leadership and having faith in yourself.
It all begins with getting out of your own way, letting go of the thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve you, stepping into your power and owning that future that you want to create.

Then today’s episode is perfect for you because we are talking all things mentors! It can be one of the most important choices in your career and can catapult you forward by years.
The first thing you need to think about is where you are currently at in your business journey. You will need different mentors and mentor-roles at different phases. You’ll be asking a lot of “How do I do that?” questions so you need a mentor that can give you a breadth of experience and advice.
But after this point, you need to learn how you can push your business forwards into new realms and this requires a different approach. I’ll take you through the different mentor-roles you can look for in your business, whether you need the sage, risk-taker, protege, devil’s advocate, accountability partner, confidant or teacher.
Now how do you find them? Don’t worry - they’re not hiding under rocks. They’re excited to bring the industry to new levels by collaborating with mentees and the right mentor will be thrilled to work with you. I’ll explore the different avenues you can take to find the right fit for you and how to best approach them to establish a positive and mutually rewarding relationship.
So, let’s dive in together to find the perfect mentor who will support you to find new levels of success in your business.

Today’s episode is a follow on from last week’s episode ‘Are you under earning?’. If you haven’t already, jump back and listen to it to gain an understanding of whether you are under earning in your career.
Take a moment and picture yourself earning the amount of money you desire. Everything in your life will shift and you’ll feel fulfilled and empowered in brand new ways from creating the money and reward that you’re capable of and deserve.
There are so many reasons that we might want to earn more money. You don’t need to shout your reason from the rooftops but it must hold value for you because when we connect with the ‘why’ we have a constant internal motivator that anchors us to the goal.
In today’s episode I’m going to show you four practical key steps to go from under earning each year to getting paid what your work and value is worth.
We’ll cover getting clear on your desires, overcoming limiting beliefs surrounding money and gender roles, increasing your value as an employee, viewing money as a tool and not a representation of your personal worth and handling those dreaded uncomfortable conversations about money and pay raises with your employer.
I want you to stop under earning as soon as possible. You know you’re capable of more and you know you can achieve it. You have to become your own best advocate and put your absolute best foot forward.
Don’t let yourself back down - You’ve got this!

Are you under earning in your career?
This is a very important conversation and may be the first time you have even taken a moment to consider whether your current pay is competitive in the industry. Or you may have been feeling like you’ve been under earning for a while and don’t know where to start.
Firstly, under earning has nothing to do with how much money you earn in isolation. You could be earning $60,000 or $160,000 a year and you could still be under earning.
In this episode, we’ll run through the key elements to consider when looking at your numbers to determine if you’re earning everything you’re worth, the thoughts and feelings that can get us stuck in the mindset of not wanting to ask for more, and how to move passed the taboos around money-talk and self sabotage to start earning what you’re capable of.
Now, we can’t deny that there has been a huge pay gap in the construction and property industry with women earning $6.94 for every $10 that a man makes but we can work towards industry-level change by examining how we are showing up as individuals in our own careers.
If you had the opportunity, would you be earning more money? Are you under earning in comparison to your peers in your role or are you capable of so much more and haven’t been given the opportunity to leverage your skills into a new pay bracket?
You need to become your own best advocate. Don’t shy away from owning your achievements or deflecting your contributions because you don’t want to seem egotistical. I see women every day who downplay their role and significance and, because of this, they will be paid less. You must direct your career and direct your earnings by taking responsibility for your amazing work every day.
Take a moment and really think about how much you want to earn. Let it take over your mind and fill you with excitement.
After listening to today’s episode, join me next week to find out how to work through those blocks and barriers surrounding your earning potential and I’ll show you how you can achieve what you are truly capable of and deserve.

Women in the construction and property industry have been the minority for such a long time and often have to face so many obstacles that occur from working in a male dominated industry. In fact as of 2023, only 13% of the construction industry are women and only 36% of the property sector are women.
Two of the most important obstacles are the very limited number of women in leadership roles and the jaw dropping gender pay gap of 18.8%.
But it IS changing. I’ve seen it myself over the last two decades how women are coming together to support each other, find pathways and create space for incredible careers.
But what happens when this doesn’t happen and women don’t support each other? Quite often I’ve heard from women who don’t feel their female managers or peers are actually backing them and they’re full of disappointment and disbelief. Because it can feel so much more discouraging when a female colleague doesn’t advocate and support us in the industry, right?
But why is that? Because we often set a higher standard for our female peers and managers than we do for our male counterparts and this way of thinking is hugely problematic.
In the industry you’ll have good managers and lousy ones. You’ll experience a whole range of people with different skills, aptitudes, interests and knowledge and you’ll have to learn how to connect with them differently every time. Because if we go into every working relationship with our women colleagues with the notion that they’ll go out of their way to support and advocate for our careers, we’re setting them up to fail.
Let’s take gender out of the problem. An unsupportive female leader is just an unsupportive leader.
And remember that women who have been in the industry for up to 40 years have been leading the charge and while they may not be advocating for your career progression on a day to day basis, they were at the forefront of fighting for gender equality 20 years ago. We’re standing on the shoulders of giants and can learn so much from focusing on what they’re doing right and not what they’re doing wrong.
In this conversation I’ll take you through what you can do to find your people, relationships and mentorships that you can rely on to fuel your motivation and inspiration because we work in an incredible industry where we contribute to the environments that people live in every day and everybody needs support.
We can all make a difference by celebrating the women who are doing remarkable things and showing up for someone the way you wished someone showed up for you.

Today we’re continuing the conversation about creating sustainable habits for success. This is all about understanding how we create habits and what our brain needs in order to create long-term results.
If you haven’t already listened to Part 1 of this episode, make sure you go back and really take the time to get clear on what it is you want to achieve and the goal you’re working towards. I really encourage you to download the worksheet which will help you in developing the behaviours and habits that will contribute to achieving your goals.
We need to be intentional about creating habits for success. When we break down the elements of habits and really begin to understand the triggers and what our brain is doing, this is where we create massive results in our careers are lives.
Part 2 of this conversation is really about committing to those habits and knowing what you need to do in order to set yourself up for success. I share 3 important factors of developing habits for success, which are:
We want to achieve big things in 2023 and I want you to end this year being a different person to who you are right now. If you are willing to apply these habits consistently over the course of the year, exponential growth will happen.

We often put so much pressure on the new year as the moment for everything to change. But the truth is, everything changes when we make the decision for that to happen.
Instead of new years resolutions that ultimately fade and lead to discouragement, I want to talk to you today about creating long lasting habits to set yourself up for success in a sustainable way.
You get to create a new possibility for yourself. First, you need to make the choice and the commitment to make it happen. Then, with the right systems and habits, it’s the small, consistent action that leads to big results.
In this episode, I’m talking about creating habits that allow us to achieve all the things we want in our lives and careers. I dive into how the brain works and how we can use this understanding to build our own skillset, resilience and self-identity and create those big wins we desire.
Habits are just repeated behaviours. And in order for a behaviour to take place, we need three things to align. I talk about how our motivation, ability, and prompt need to come together to create high performing habits for success.
I share some stories from my own life and how I've used habits to really transform myself and what I thought was possible for my life and career. I talk about what these habits taught me about intention and taking small steps to keep building momentum.
Think about the result you are trying to achieve. Then, get intentional to create habits that become automatic - these are what become consistent behaviours. I share some fantastic resources with you to help you go through this process and create those habits starting today.
Stay tuned for Part 2 next week when I’ll be talking about the do’s and don'ts for habits and how to create sustainable, high performing habits.

For my final episode of 2022, I wanted to leave you with a juicy one! I’m talking today about intentionally making the decision to succeed every single day. I hope this episode motivates and inspires you to really go for it in 2023 and be the absolute best that you can be.
We’re taught not to put all our eggs in one basket. Avoid failure at all costs! But if you don’t choose to go all in on your dreams, you’re doing yourself a huge disservice.
I’m encouraging you today to get clear on what you want. Think about what success means for you… What would it look like if you were living the biggest expression of yourself?
Make a bold, audacious decision today to become lazer focused on what it is you want and how you’re going to achieve it. Because when you make a deep rooted commitment to succeed, pathways start to appear, synergies happen and opportunities present themselves.
That's not to say that things will go perfectly and that you'll never make mistakes. But what it does mean is that every stumble and struggle along the way becomes a lesson. Obstacles turn into learnings which allow you to become better and get closer to your goal. All because you've made the daily decision to succeed.
And when your mind is set on success, you begin to enjoy the process of becoming a more aligned version of you. You start to embrace the joy of becoming someone who steers the course of their own life and career.
I wanted to leave this concept for you to ponder on while you’re rejuvenating over the festive season and resetting for the year to come. What is it that you truly want? Get clear, and make the bold decision to commit to success, whatever that looks like for you.
I’m greatly honoured that you’ve spent time listening to the podcast this year and look forward to bringing you some more inspiring episodes in 2023.

We are well and truly on the home straight to Christmas - truly my favourite time of the year. I love that everyone is in a festive mood, people are starting to relax and think about the new year and the goals they have for themselves.
This time of year is also a time connection. But this time of year also comes with obligations and often, it involves us spending time with people we don't necessarily love or choose to hang out with.
Sometimes we show up to events out of a sense of duty or obligation. That’s ok if we make that decision consciously. But so many of us show up to things because, ultimately, we are trying to please people in our lives.
I reflect on my own people-pleasing traits and how this shows up for me. I have recently realised that go to extreme lengths to prioritise other people’s needs and desires.
I share that we need to become aware of the distinction between doing things to please people and doing something because we have made a conscious choice. There are two components to this - self-awareness, and knowing why we make certain decisions.
I share how breaking up with people pleasing has allowed me to change the way we do Christmas this year. I am not responsible for other people’s happiness.
We make decision’s every single day where we are thinking about other people’s needs, priorities and expectations before our own. That is not serving us.
If we are trying to create a career and life that we love, we need to be aligned and know what our desires and goals are. So my invitation to you is - take the time to get clear on what it is you want and what matters to you.
You have to be all in on creating the career and life that you want in order for it to happen. You need to make choices consistent with that vision every day. That requires effort and sometimes upsetting and disappointing people. But it’s ok, you are creating a life that you have designed, thoughtfully and with intention.

The people who are really killing it in life, the people who are truly happy, doing well and making a big impact on the world aren’t that way because they played it safe. Those people live life on purpose. They strive for something much bigger themselves, they choose how they want to live and take action to make it happen.
If you’re like me and you want your life and career to be everything you could possibly dream of, this is the episode for you. I’m sharing with you how to create a vision for the year to come to gain clarity, set intentions and create new possibilities for the life and career that you love.
In this episode I’m sharing the process I use to step back and look at my life to see where I am and where I want to go. Using my 2023 Vision Workbook, I encourage you to really take the time to go through this process. As you ponder and reflect on the year that’s been and ask yourself questions about what you really want, you will move through self doubt, gain clarity and be able to prioritize what you really want in life.
I’ve discovered that there are 3 key reasons why we don’t have the lives and careers that we deeply desire - we don’t know what we want, we aren’t prioritizing the things that are important to us and we get stuck in fear and self doubt. I talk about these 3 areas today and how this vision setting process will help eliminate these obstacles, help you focus and step into the person you want to be.
Setting intentions for the year to come will energize and excite you and from that place of empowerment, you create the magic and results you desire. That's where you'll find your own happiness and joy, and make the biggest impact on those around you.
So, I encourage you to take the time to download the workbook, really go through this process with the intention to create an amazing 2023.

Is your career thriving? If not, this is your opportunity and your message from the universe to do something about it.
In the episode today, I discuss why we need to stop waiting for tomorrow. We can all relate to this feeling on some level. We commonly give ourselves a date in the future when we think we will have the energy, resources and courage to go for our goals. The reality is, we get to that point and we struggle in exactly the same ways we do right now.
Unfortunately, most people delay going for their goals and creating their dream career and life, until they hit a catalyst point. Usually, it’s when something horrible happens - a health scare or the death of someone close. It’s in those moments that we realise that we’re not invincible and don’t have all the time in the world. These kinds of situations push people into action.
But I am here today to let you know that you don’t need to wait for a crisis point to create a career you love. This is the time to look at the opportunities in front of you and what you are capable of (it’s a lot!).
I want you to take today’s podcast as your wake-up call, your invitation, as your permission slip to go out there and start creating that career you dream of. Go out and seek what you need to create the results that you want, to have an impact, and to shake up the status quo. Once we decide to get intentional with our lives, we can start creating the results.
We need more women stepping into leadership roles. We need more diversity and equity and we need collaborative and compassionate leaders in our organisations, industry and society at large.
We need to commit to the results we want, set the intention and start taking action. You don’t need to have it all figured out.
Know that you will never feel ready. No one ever does. I know that you have it in you. Take the first tiny step in the right direction. Decide what you want and make it happen.
So many talented and capable women hold themselves back from making their next move in their careers for fear of screwing up. We’ve all been there - no one wants to be seen as a failure! But failure is a necessary part of growth so today I’m talking about embracing failure in order to achieve the success you dream of.
Successful people don’t start off being successful people. They learn what they need to know, then practise and get better. It’s all about a growth mindset and the only way to achieve this is to do the work. The truth is, you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.
In this episode, I talk about being willing to be brave enough to screw up, make mistakes and see failure as an opportunity for growth. Women are especially hard on themselves when it comes to making mistakes. We tend to beat ourselves up and hold ourselves back for fear of not being perfect. But the truth is, skill comes from practice and the only way to get experience is to do the work. So put yourself in situations that feel uncomfortable and see what you’re capable of—you might be surprised by what you can achieve.
Think about what you want for your career and the impact you want to make in the world. You won’t just leap from step 1 to step 10. You have to learn and grow through every level in order to get to the next one. I hope this episode encourages you to maintain your enthusiasm through the growth process, even when it feels like you’re wading through mud.
Remember, until you’re willing to embrace failure, you’ll never become the version of yourself that you dream of being. When you learn how to practise failure, you become better, more resilient and understand how to use every failure to propel yourself forward in your life and career. Go for it!

As busy women with limited time and energy, it’s so important to be intentional about where you invest your time and energy. I’m talking today about the importance of building a strong support network and why we all need to surround ourselves with people who will help us grow both emotionally and professionally.
When you have a strong support system around you, you can go so much further than you could by yourself. Yes, you are capable of achieving so much on your own, but with people in your corner to offer emotional support, practical guidance and inspiration, you’ll go so much further.
Being intentional about the relationships you invest in will make a huge impact on your life. It’s easy to just roll with social and networking opportunities as they arise, but we need to be intentional about building meaningful relationships with people who will help us grow in different ways. Whether it be career advice, day to day logistics or emotional support through challenging times, we all need a variety of people around us to navigate the many facets of life.
Building a supportive network should be one of your top priorities—no matter what stage of life you're in or what goals you're working towards. By surrounding yourself with people who will help you grow emotionally and professionally, you'll set yourself up for success in all areas of your life.

If you're looking to make the next move in your career, you're probably wondering if now is the right time to make the change. After all, with the current state of the economy and concerns about recession, it's natural to feel apprehension about starting something new. But the truth is, there's never been a better time to take control of your career and decide for yourself what you want instead of relying on external circumstances.
Despite what you might hear on the news, the current job market is actually really strong - especially for women in industries like property. In fact, according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate is at a 50-year low. This means that there are more jobs available than there are people looking for work, which gives you plenty of options when it comes to finding your next role.
In this episode, I aim to inspire you to take ownership of your career. If you want to set yourself up for success, it’s absolutely essential that you are proactive instead of reactive and base your career decisions on what you really want.
A lot of people stay in roles (or even entire careers) that they're not happy with because they're afraid of change. But making a change can actually be really good for your career! It can help you gain new skills and experiences, network with new people, and expand your professional horizons. Plus, it can also give you a much-needed confidence boost after being in a situation that wasn't working for you.
Making a change in your career can be scary, but it doesn't have to be. With the current state of the job market, now is actually a great time to explore your option, expand and grow and see what you’re capable of. So instead of waiting for something to happen, be proactive and take control of your career today! You won't regret it.

Have you hit a brick wall and are not quite sure where to go next?
This is a common feeling at some point in our careers. I see it the most for women at the mid-career point. It’s here you are proficient and highly competent in what you do, but taking the next step in your career isn’t as easy as it once was. I want to let you know this is perfectly normal. Not only that, it’s the perfect time to stop and reflect - on where you’re at, and what you want from your career.
In this episode, I share how to reflect on where you are, how to get clear on what you want and how this can help reverse engineer a meaningful career moving forward.
This is an opportunity for you to uncover your purpose, connect with what you want, and determine your mission.
I provide you with some questions that will help you work out your purpose. And then, how to frame this exploration in terms of your mission. What is the thing that absolutely motivates you, excites you and drives you forward? This becomes your Northstar. I explain how once you have this driving mission, you can then reverse-engineer your career around this.
This is not about what you want, or what you want to do. It’s not about a job title or salary. It’s about the impact and the influence you will have.
My invitation for you today is to get crystal clear on what your mission is, and what drives you. If anything was possible, what would you be doing?
So I encourage you to do this work. It will change your life in the best way possible. It will bring that alignment and fulfilment back to your everyday.

If you’re an ambitious woman, you’ve probably been told at some point that you’re too ambitious. Maybe it was your boss who said it, or a well-meaning family member. We’re here to tell you that it’s not true! It is not selfish to put yourself first and pursue the career you really want.
First and foremost, it is important to remember that you are worthy of pursuing your goals. You are not defined by other people’s expectations of you; you get to define yourself. So go out and do what you want to do! Don’t let anyone else hold you back from pursuing the career you really want.
Another reason why it is important to pursue your ambitions is that it requires you to keep showing up and believing in yourself—even when things are tough. Pursuing your ambitions is not always going to be easy, but it will be worth it in the end. So don’t give up on yourself!
Finally, pursuing your ambitions can help you create the life you really want. If you allow yourself to be held back by other people’s expectations, you will never truly be happy. But if you go out and pursue your dreams, chances are good that you will end up exactly where you want to be.
If you’re an ambitious woman, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re being selfish. Pursuing your goals from a position of worthiness is not selfish; it’s empowering. So keep showing up and believing in yourself, and don’t give up on your dreams. Get clear on what you want and go for it!

There is a lot of discussion currently around the topic of women in the workforce. In particular, how we as women can break through the barriers and female stereotypes that exist within the patriarchal society we all live in.
If you’re a woman in a male-dominated industry, you’ll understand the challenges of being boxed into a stereotype. You’re either the nice girl who is polite, accommodating, caring and obliging. Or you’re the bad girl - defiant, bossy and bitchy.
Yes, it’s important to be professional and polite. But you also need to assert yourself and make your voice heard. Otherwise, you’ll always be at a disadvantage in a field that is dominated by men.
As ambitious women, we cannot have the careers we want while being the nice girl. It’s time to step away from the nice girl identity and define for ourselves what it means to be a confident, successful woman. We need to make sure we are respected and valued for the amazing contributions we make to our industries.
Breaking through the barriers that exist for women in the workplace is not going to be easy. But if we all work together, we can make a difference.

We are officially in the home stretch for the year. This is a great time to check in with ourselves and see how we are tracking with the goals we set at the start of the year, to ensure the actions we are taking are aligned with those goals.
Whether you’re listening to this in October, or months or years from now, this conversation absolutely applies to you. Having that fulfilling career, and a lifestyle that brings you joy is absolutely achievable and something we should each be aspiring to.
Whatever goals you have for yourself, professionally or personally - they are achievable. It’s about how you get there.
In this episode, I explore the common blocks and challenges we come up against when it comes to achieving our goals. I talk through strategies to work through and around these.
We still have 90 days of the year left. 90 days is a significant block of time and can be transformative.
Once you start taking active steps that are aligned with your goal, not only will you achieve results, your whole self-belief will shift. You will become focused and intentional. Your mindset will completely level up.
This episode will help you reset and be all in, so you can realise those goals you’re chasing.

Negative feedback is tough, but it also presents an amazing opportunity for growth! In today's episode, I share how to harness negative feedback and use it to fuel progress and results.
When we receive negative feedback our brain jumps straight into shame, disappointment and fear. I share some tips on how to move through these negative emotions so that you don’t get stuck in the negative self-talk that often accompanies negative feedback.
Learning and growing from negative feedback is a process. I explain why negative feedback is normally provided and how it comes down to expectations and visibility. I explain how to gather information so that you can properly reflect and learn from the feedback provided. I then take you through how to formulate a plan in order to act upon the feedback provided and achieve the desired results.
The key throughout all of this is a growth mindset. It’s important to keep in mind that if you aren’t receiving negative feedback, it may mean you’re playing small and not pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
If you are wanting to have an outstanding career and achieve big results then you need to get comfortable with processing negative feedback and using it as a growth strategy for your own progress and development.
Negative feedback is an amazing opportunity. I hope this episode helps you harness it moving forward.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been celebrating some great wins with my clients, including a new leadership position, a $30,000 pay rise and a $40,000 bonus.
I’ve been reflecting on why my clients come to me and how our work together empowers them to achieve incredible successes and milestones in their careers, and in their lives more broadly.
What is common is that each of these women are ambitious and they have big aspirations for their career and their lives. They are also willing and committed to getting into action to reach their dreams and create tangible results in their career.
Irrespective of what they’re trying to achieve, each of these women go through the same process. Today, I want to share with you that process that I take my clients on. No matter where you are in your career, or what you want to achieve, this same process will apply to you. I’ll take you through the three distinct stages of this process so that you can apply these to your situation.
If you’re ready to step into confidently creating a fulfilling and impactful career that you love, on your terms, then these three phases of change will help you get there.

Today I want to talk about something a little bit different. I woke this morning to the news of Queens Elizabeth II’s passing. I thought this would be a valuable opportunity to reflect on the life of a truly remarkable woman, and what she teaches us about who we are, and how we show up in our lives.
I know for most of us, Queen Elizabeth II has been the only monarch we’ve had. Having such a steadfast and public female at the helm has opened us up to understand what’s possible for women.
I reflect on the reasons why the Queen has been so influential and beloved and how her ability to connect has been at the core of this.
Queen Elizabeth II really gave her whole self in her work ethic and sense of duty to her people. She was never able to switch off or change course. She was steadfastly dedicated to being in service and she has never shied away from that.
The Queen’s legacy has made me stop and think - what is the legacy I’m leaving? How do I want to be remembered? What influence do I want to have on the world? I invite you to think about what you want your greatest accomplishments to be.
Our legacy is there irrespective of how intentional we are. However, the more intentional and deliberate we can become about crafting a legacy we are proud of, the more good we will do in the world.
I share some ideas that can help each of us step up to be the person that we want to be.

Today we are talking about how to get recognised at work.
There is nothing worse than showing up to work, doing a great job, creating outstanding results, and then not being recognised for it. It can send us into feeling unvalued and unappreciated and can take a lot of the fun out of work.
But that's not how it has to be. In this episode, I’ll take you through seven tips to get recognised and rewarded at work. I’m talking today about why boundaries are important; a topic I love talking about and one we don’t talk about enough. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or overworked, this topic will be particularly relevant and helpful to you.
The idea of setting boundaries makes a lot of people feel uncomfortable. I want to break the stigma that ‘boundaries’ is a dirty word and talk about why they are actually essential in helping you thrive in your career and every area of life.
In this episode, I share my perspective on establishing healthy boundaries and how they act as a personal protective bubble that ensures your health and happiness are intact.
In order to implement the boundaries that will serve you in every aspect of life, you first need to understand what your nonnegotiables are. I share my tips on how to do this so that your boundaries are effective, and will help you live more authentically aligned with your values.
I also share some troubleshooting tips to help you throughout the process of setting and implementing your boundaries. I talk about the importance of communication, why you don’t need to apologise for setting boundaries, and why you need to take full responsibility for your own happiness.
If you want to show up as the best version of yourself, carve out space for the things that light you up, and set parameters around the things that don’t, I encourage you to be intentional about your boundaries. When you do this, you’ll be empowered to live a life by design rather than by default.

The topic we’re talking about today is one I get asked about a lot - performance reviews!
We explore why performance reviews are so important and how they’re an excellent opportunity to set yourself up to achieve your career goals. I also give you some practical tips that you can apply as you prepare for your own performance review.
Performance reviews are an opportunity to demonstrate the value you bring to the organisation and share your career vision and aspirations.
So many women feel uncomfortable going in and advocating for themselves and what they want. But we need to do this. You need to have your own back in your career and development.
In the second part of this conversation, I will take you through the two components of a performance review. The first is planning, and the second is execution. These steps will set you up for success.
It’s also important to remember that your performance review is not supposed to be a demonstration that you’re perfect. It’s about outcomes. The key qualities you want to show are capacity, growth, adaptability and resilience. These are the attributes of great leaders.
Performance reviews have a massive impact on your career. Use them as an opportunity.
So - take the time to get really clear on what you want, cultivate your self-belief and then get your game face on!
You’ve got this.

I know so many people at the moment who are feeling flat, frustrated or disengaged at work. Losing the enthusiasm you normally have for work can be really deflating.
In this episode, we uncover the reasons you may be feeling this way, and then I’ll step you through an action plan in order to get you re-energised about work again.
Firstly - nothing has gone wrong! It’s really normal to feel flat and disengaged at times during your career. And frankly, after the last two years with all the ups and downs, changed working environments and a huge cognitive load, it’s not surprising if you’re feeling this way.
But it’s not a fun space to sit in. So - I encourage you to grab our notepad and pen today and take some notes. Take this time for yourself to really get clear on what you want, and how to make it happen.
We’ll discuss how to move out of the lower, negative emotions you might be experiencing at the moment and how to shift into more possibility and optimism.
I’ll help you find solutions and approach your situation from the perspective of endless possibilities.
Allow yourself to step into being the person you want to be and stand in the possibility of the future that you want!

Today we are talking about leaning into your zone of genius.
People often ask me how to uncover their purpose, or how to find fulfilling work, but I think a more useful and empowering perspective is to explore your zone of genius.
Your zone of genius is the point where your unique talents, strengths and skills meet. This concept not only allows you to understand what you’re good at and what motivates you, but it also uncovers where you can get paid more for doing work that you love.
Even if you’re not questioning your career purpose, understanding your own zone of genius will open up more opportunities for you.
I’ll take you through the four stages of competence before revealing how you can then uplevel and upskill beyond these to reach your zone of genius. This is where you increase your impact and increase your earning potential. It’s where you can educate others and connect with people on a much deeper level. This is where great leaders operate from.
We discuss the ways operating in this space can be tough, and how you can work through those challenges. Stepping beyond this point requires you to be intentional and committed and to make the conscious decision to step out of your comfort zone in pursuit of something greater.
Your zone of genius allows you to do something in the world that other people can’t do. We all have this inside of us, it’s about getting out of our own way and letting go of the limitations we put on ourselves, to create a career that we absolutely love and that offers value to the world.
Keep leaning into your zone of genius, whatever that looks like!

Imposter syndrome is spoken about all of the time and the term is thrown around often, especially when talking about women and their careers.
But what is imposter syndrome and how can we use it to our advantage?
In this episode, I’m exploring how women can recognise and deal with imposter syndrome to uplevel and even grow their careers.
When we experience imposter syndrome, we often feel like a fake or a fraud. All of our success and achievements are seen as an illusion and we’re inwardly terrified of being discovered as incompetent and undeserving.
You’re absolutely not alone in feeling this way. It’s a very common phenomenon with up to 82% of people identifying as having imposter syndrome which leads them to avoid taking risks, hide away and play small.
It’s my aim in this conversation to normalise this feeling so it doesn’t hold you back and create a lack of confidence and low self-esteem. I’ll run you through my strategy of 6 ways you can use imposter syndrome to uplevel and grow your career because it will always be present, we just need to learn how we can utilise it for success.
Grab a pen and paper and tune in to write down these 6 methods to reframe imposter syndrome to work for you (and not against you) so you can walk into any room with confidence and self-belief.

You are your most valuable asset.
Your mind, your skills, and your experience are what make you valuable to an organisation. Being more proficient and more skilled is what enables you to charge more and push your career forward, which is why we need to be constantly upskilling and investing in ourselves.
Often what keeps people stuck in the same place is not a lack of opportunity, but their thinking. A fixed mindset believes that talent and success is innate, whereas a growth mindset believes that effort leads to improved outcomes.
Success requires perseverance, dedication and tenacity. A growth mindset will push you to keep going through the ups and downs and embrace challenges as opportunities for improvement.
In this episode, I talk about the importance of cultivating a growth mindset and share 5 ways to do this in your own life. If you practice these steps consistently, you will become a more valuable asset and your career will go from strength to strength.
I talk about embracing the word “yet”, focusing your attention on your trajectory rather than your current position. I share how making small consistent changes will allow you to shift things exponentially and why challenges are opportunities to better ourselves. I also talk about the importance of keeping the big picture front and centre and creating an environment that supports risk taking.
It’s never the how that keeps us stuck. What keeps us stuck is our own thinking. Start implementing these steps today, be consistent and you’ll begin cultivating a growth mindset that will set you on a trajectory for the life you want to create.
