Operating under a variety of different monikers, Taylor Freels has produced some seriously good deep and propulsive club music over the last couple of years. After our previous show with Russel E.L. Butler, we invited hometurf hero Vuur, aka Guido, to join us at Echobox Radio last month. Guido has been making moves in the Amsterdam scene over the last couple of years with his well-thought out selections. We recently had the pleasure of connecting with Oakland-based artist Russell E.L. Butler for our monthly show on Echobox Radio. Off the back of touring Europe, we caught up with them while on a family trip to Bermuda and talked about their recent touring experience, reconnecting to the dance floor, the gentrification of Times Square, Russell’s archiving of Frankie Knuckles work and future projects. A passionate crate digger and selector at heart, Alison evolved as an artist in LA’s vibrant scene and is known for serving up feel good sets that bring wide smiles to the dance floor. Alongside Masha, she co-founded the acclaimed LA Dig Deeper party series, which has seen a plethora of DJ’s from the local scene plus international guests such as Axel Boman, Omar S, Tornado Wallace and Shanti Celeste, amongst many others, delight crowds in venues and warehouses across the city. Honing her craft in Toronto, Ciel is equally known as DJ, producer and booker, with a commitment to elevating local artists and supporting women and queer people of colour. Pair that with her technical finesse and omnivorous tastes as a DJ and selector at the fringe of cutting-edge club culture, and you get why she has become one of the breakout stars of recent years.
