Moderation sounds like the sensible middle ground. One or two drinks, stay in control, and carry on.
But I think there's a problem with that story.
For me, moderation means wanting more of something but using willpower to force yourself to have less. And when willpower inevitably runs low, one drink can become two, two can become five, and suddenly we're wondering what went wrong.
In this episode, I unpack why I believe moderation creates more mental noise than freedom, how confirmation bias convinces us we're better at moderating than we really are, and why those people who can nurse one drink all night might not be moderators at all.
Most importantly, I explore what happens when you stop negotiating with alcohol altogether and discover the peace, confidence, and freedom on the other side.
What You'll Learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 03:00 Why I believe moderation is doomed to fail
03:00 – 06:00 Confirmation bias and the moderation story
06:00 – 09:00 Why two drinks can so easily become five
09:00 – 11:00 The "non-drinker in disguise"
11:00 – End Escaping the noise of moderation and choosing alcohol-free

This is one of the hardest truths I've ever had to accept.
No one becomes a better person because of a drink.
That doesn't mean people who drink are bad people. Far from it. It means alcohol never helps us become more authentic, more present, or more connected. It simply creates the illusion that it does.
In this episode, I explore why alcohol convinces us we're becoming the person we want to be, why that illusion is so powerful, and why the greatest transformation begins when you finally meet the real you.
What You'll Learn:

What if the secret to transforming your mornings isn't another productivity hack?
What if it's removing the one thing that's stealing them in the first place?
For years, I believed I didn't have time. I thought I was too busy, too tired, and too stretched to exercise, study, write, or work on the life I really wanted.
The truth was, I wasn't losing my mornings because of my schedule.
I was losing them because of alcohol.
In this episode, I share how going alcohol-free unlocked the Miracle Morning, why those quiet hours before the world wakes up became the foundation for everything I've built, and how just a few intentional minutes each morning can completely change the direction of your life.

We all spend our lives searching for that one goal that makes everything else easier.
The one habit. The one breakthrough. The one decision that creates a ripple effect across every area of life.
I believe I've found it.
Going alcohol-free isn't just another health goal. It's the foundation that makes so many other goals possible. Better health, stronger relationships, more confidence, greater consistency, sharper thinking, and the courage to pursue the life you really want.
In this episode, I explain why I believe becoming alcohol-free is the single most important investment you can make in yourself, and why it has the power to unlock almost everything else you're striving for.

Going alcohol-free isn't just about giving up a drink.
It's about having the courage to question everything.
The beliefs you've inherited. The stories you've been told. The assumptions you've accepted simply because everyone else believes them too.
In this episode, I explore why choosing a different path takes courage, but why it's also one of the most rewarding decisions you can ever make.
I share how removing alcohol became the first domino in a complete transformation of my life, leading me to question my career, my health, my beliefs, and ultimately the way I wanted to live.
Because once you realise you don't have to follow the crowd, a whole new world of possibility opens up.
What You'll Learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 04:00 Why it takes courage to go against the crowd
04:00 – 08:00 Escaping the alcohol trap and questioning conventional wisdom

For years, I thought I was showing up at my best on a Monday.
Looking back, I wasn't even close.
Like so many people, I was caught in a cycle of drinking, recovering, surviving, and calling it normal. I had no idea just how much alcohol was quietly stealing from me, not just my health, but my energy, ambition, focus, relationships, and productivity.
In this episode, I explore why I believe alcohol is the world's biggest productivity killer, how it quietly puts a lid on our potential, and why removing it gives you an unfair advantage in every area of life.
I also share the story of how going alcohol-free became one of the biggest competitive advantages in my own business, helping us break into one of the toughest industries imaginable.
If you've ever wondered what life could look like if you consistently showed up as your best self, this episode is for you.

When I first considered taking a break from alcohol, my biggest fear wasn't missing the drink.
It was losing myself.
Who would I be without alcohol? Would I still be fun? Would people still like me? Would I still be confident enough to walk into a room, dance at weddings, connect with people, and feel like I belonged?
Looking back, I realise those fears had very little to do with alcohol and everything to do with identity.
In this episode, I explore one of the biggest hidden challenges of going alcohol-free: rediscovering who you really are underneath the persona alcohol creates. I share my own experience, the stories I told myself for years, and why I now believe that finding your authentic self is one of the greatest gifts of this entire journey.

Breaking news.
My Dryy adventure is over.
After more than four incredible years, the Dryy app and community has come to an end. But this isn't a story about failure. It's a story about impact, courage, learning, and what happens when you dare to take a swing at something that matters.
In this episode, I reflect on the journey that Matt Pink and I embarked on together, helping tens of thousands of people transform their relationship with alcohol through the Dryy community.
I share why I'm incredibly proud of what we built, the lessons I've learned from entrepreneurship, and why this ending feels more like a beginning.
Most importantly, I explore one of the greatest gifts of alcohol-free living: becoming a dreamer of the day. The kind of person who stops talking about change and starts creating it.
Because when alcohol is no longer stealing your time, energy, confidence, and momentum, extraordinary things start to happen.
What You'll Learn:
Timestamps:

What if I told you that almost every reason people drink alcohol is actually created by alcohol itself?
Stress. Anxiety. Escapism. Boredom. Even the need to relax.
In this episode, I unpack what I call The Doom Loop. A powerful catch-22 that keeps millions of people stuck in an endless cycle where alcohol appears to be the solution, while secretly being the cause of the problem.
Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
This is one of the most important concepts I've ever shared because understanding the doom loop changes everything.
What You'll Learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 04:00 What is the doom loop and why it matters
04:00 – 08:00 The catch-22 that keeps drinkers stuck
08:00 – 12:00 How alcohol creates stress while pretending to relieve it

Let's do this.
This episode was sparked by something I recently came across that genuinely frustrated me.
Not because it was provocative, but because it touched on a belief about alcohol that I think so many of us have accepted without ever stopping to question.
The idea got under my skin enough that I felt compelled to unpack it properly.
Because when I look back at my own drinking career, I don't see alcohol making me a better version of myself. I see something very different.
This is a powerful conversation about identity, authenticity, and becoming the person you were always meant to be.
What You'll Learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 03:00 A belief about alcohol that got under my skin
03:00 – 06:00 Confidence, personality, and my early drinking years
06:00 – 10:00 The illusion of becoming someone better through alcohol
10:00 – 14:00 How alcohol pulls us away from our authentic self

Ibiza. No alcohol.
For most people, those two things simply do not belong in the same sentence.
But that’s exactly what happened on our recent reinvention retreat, where a group of complete strangers came together in Ibiza without a drop of alcohol.
And honestly?
It turned into one of the most powerful, connected, joyful experiences I’ve ever been part of.
In this episode, I unpack what really happens when people remove alcohol from social situations, retreats, holidays, and connection. Because what I witnessed in Ibiza completely challenged the old belief that alcohol creates fun.
I actually think the opposite is true.
This episode is about authenticity, connection, energy, and what becomes possible when people stop numbing themselves and start showing up fully as who they really are.
What you’ll learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 03:00 Graduation celebrations and heading to Ibiza
03:00 – 05:00 My old relationship with Ibiza and alcohol

A 17 year old completely destroyed me at a party recently.
I told him I hadn’t had a drink for 12 years and he hit me with: “That’s really boring.”
Then came the knockout punch: “I bet you’re fun at parties.”
Honestly, it made me laugh.
But once the dust settled, it got me thinking about just how deeply ingrained our cultural beliefs around alcohol really are. Before he’s even legally allowed to drink, he already believes alcohol equals fun and not drinking equals boring.
So in this episode, I decided to properly challenge that idea once and for all.
And spoiler alert… I think we’ve got this whole thing completely backwards.
What you’ll learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 03:00 Graduations, retreats, documentaries, and a huge week ahead
03:00 – 05:00 The 17 year old who called me boring
05:00 – 08:00 The “bore-off” and redefining what boring really means

In this episode, I share a powerful reminder of how to create lasting behavioral change without relying on the exhausting and unreliable tool of willpower.
This conversation is for anyone on an alcohol-free adventure who has ever felt "cursed by the willpower gods" or frustrated by their inability to just "decide and change."
This is not about grit or suffering through temptation. It is about understanding the "Willpower Free Method," identifying the love-hate relationship of ambivalence, and learning how to tip the scales so that living your best life becomes the easiest choice you can make.
What you’ll learn in this episode:
Timestamps

I would love to see you on the journey.

In this episode, I dive into one of the biggest hidden barriers to success in both coaching and alcohol-free living: overthinking.
So many people get stuck trying to figure everything out before they take action. They want the perfect plan, the perfect moment, the perfect version of themselves before they begin.
But that’s not how growth works.
I share why taking imperfect action is the real key to momentum, how overthinking keeps you stuck, and what you can do to break free from it starting today.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re “thinking about it” more than actually doing it, this episode is for you.
What you’ll learn:

In this episode, I share one of the most powerful stories ever told about personal transformation, the story of the two wolves. This simple idea has the power to completely reshape how you see your thoughts, your habits, and ultimately your life.
I also connect this story to alcohol-free living, showing how what you focus on daily determines the quality of your life. If you’ve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or like life is happening to you rather than for you, this episode will give you a new lens to see everything differently.

In this episode, I tackle one of the biggest beliefs that keeps people stuck in the drinking cycle: the idea that alcohol is fun. It’s a story most of us have told ourselves for years, but is it actually true?
I break this down from every angle, exploring how our brains create and reinforce this belief, even when our lived experience tells a very different story. This is about getting honest, challenging the narrative, and seeing alcohol for what it really is.
Once you start to question the idea that drinking equals fun, everything begins to shift. Because when that belief falls apart, so does the hold alcohol has over you.
If you’ve ever felt torn between knowing alcohol isn’t serving you and still believing it’s “fun,” this episode will help you cut through the noise and see the truth clearly.
What you’ll learn:
Timestamps:
00:00 – 02:00 The big question: is drinking actually fun?02:00 – 05:00 How the “alcohol is fun” story is created and reinforced
05:00 – 08:00 Challenging the belief and seeing the truth

In this episode, I dive into the real science of change and why slip-ups are not something to fear, but something to expect. So many of us believe that if we decide to change, we should be able to do it perfectly. And when we don’t, we beat ourselves up and assume something is wrong with us.
The truth is very different.
I explore the powerful “spiral of change” model and share insights from one of the world’s leading experts on behaviour change. You’ll see why lasting transformation is not about willpower or perfection, but about learning, adapting, and evolving over time.
I also open up about my own journey, the identity shift that comes with going alcohol-free, and how embracing your authentic self is the real key to freedom and confidence.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, frustrated, or like you keep “failing” at change, this episode will completely reframe how you see the process.

This is one of the most important shifts you can ever make on your alcohol-free journey.
For years, I thought I had a drinking problem. That I needed more discipline, more willpower, more control.
But I was focusing on the wrong thing.

In this episode, I sit down with Mike Mudie to talk about one of the most powerful stories I have ever been part of. Mike went from achieving the biggest professional success of his life straight into complete physical collapse. His body shut down. He could not walk. He could not lift a fork. And no one in traditional medicine could explain why.
What followed was a six-month healing journey into holistic health, nature-based medicine, and reconnection with the body. That journey led to something extraordinary. Together, we explore how his burnout became the birth of Authentic Brew, a functional wellness drink powered by mushrooms, botanicals, and pure Mother Nature.
This conversation is about more than business. It is about listening to your body, understanding burnout, the power of nature, and why sometimes life has to break you before it rebuilds you.

The old definition of the hero was not about good looks or a movie star body, it described someone who could go the distance. Someone who could keep showing up even during the tough times.

Cultivating a reading habit is one of the most powerful development tools at your disposal.
Just when insight, learning and creativity are most prized, the majority are caught in a trap. They don’t have time to read. So they get stuck at a superficial level - feeding off lightweight news and stories that never go deep enough to invoke those ‘big’ career and life breakthroughs.
So one of the greatest modern-day advantages is to read and read deep.
Check out the biographies of the most successful and you will continually find that they were great readers.
And you do have the time:
Be a hunter of excellence - find the dead time and fill it with one of the greatest habits of all - reading.
When you start to open your eyes to the possibility - you will find spaces that can be reused for reading without you having to find more time.

When you dig deep you will often find fear is at the root of our inability to act.
Fear is a powerful emotion and is designed to protect us, but it can also keep us small.
Through my coaching, I have noticed that too often fear prevents someone shooting for the stars.
It clouds their thinking so they can’t see the big goals they always wanted to achieve.

It’s not stopping that’s so hard, it's what happens next that’s the hard part.
When you stop you regain clarity in your brain and body.
With the fog of alcohol gone, you pull back the veil of delusion and see your world for what it is.
This is the HARD part.
Meeting life head-on without a cheap, easy, culturally-pressured escape route is tough.
Equally, standing strong and not running into a drink reignites your courage to do the hard work and make proactive changes that can make your life lastingly better.
So what about you flip your thinking.
Rather than thinking about staying stopped, what about you look at it as you starting your adventure to rediscover your best self?
Each day alcohol-free is taking you closer to who you really are.

It is too easy in both business and life to charge off in one direction expending all your energy into something that you later discover is not what you want. Years spent climbing the corporate ladder only to reach the top and find out it's leaning against the wrong wall.
The following story had a great impact on me when I first heard it. I do not claim this story as my own and I have no idea of where the original came from, so I apologise in advance for not crediting the correct source.
My hope is that this little story might also have a big impact on you:
**
One day a CEO was taking a break from his company conference at a beach resort near Mexico. In need of some fresh air, he took a stroll towards a little harbour where he noticed a few fishing boats jostling for position.
He decided to take a seat and watch the world go by. At the same time, a fisherman who had just finished pulling in his catch took a seat next to the CEO, stretched his legs and smiled.
It was just after midday and the CEO was intrigued to know if the fisherman was done for the day. So he plucked up the courage to ask:
‘Hi there, you seem happy with your catch, is that you all done for the day or do you go out fishing again?’
‘It is a fine catch and yes that’s me finished for the day’ replied the fisherman.
‘You’re a lucky man,’ said the CEO,’my day is only beginning.’
The CEO in full conference mode paused for a minute then asked another question:
‘Have you ever considered going out fishing again?’
‘No, why would I? I have enough money for my family and some nice food for dinner. My home is 2 minutes from here and looks out onto the great ocean. My lovely wife is waiting for me to return, so we can celebrate with a nice lunch, some loving, a siesta and wait for the kids to come home from school. Then as a family, we will catch up with the day's activities, share stories, eat some nice food, laugh, watch the beautiful sunset, maybe sing a little and then sleep likes babies.’
’Sounds nice,’ remarked the CEO he paused again.
The fisherman smiled and stretched his legs.
‘But just imagine if you went out fishing again - you could catch twice as many fish and make twice as much money. Fair enough you might not finish until 7 pm every day but you would have enough money to buy more boats.’
‘Hmmm ok,’ said the fisherman, trying to understand the point.
‘Once you have more boats you can employ other fishermen to do the work for you.’
‘Ok and what next’ said the fisherman.
‘Well you could expand your fleet. Of course, this would take years of hard work but there is no reason why you couldn’t create a massive business just like mine and if you’re really lucky, float on the stock exchange. I could help you?’
‘Ok and then what?’
‘Well by then you will be at retirement age and you could sell the company and buy yourself a house somewhere near the sea. You could kick back with your wife and grandkids eat nice food, take siestas, watch the sunsets, laugh, sing a little and enjoy the good life.’
‘I’m confused’ said the fisherman.
I hope this little story helps remind you of what's important.
I clearly remember writing my second book, “Let’s Do This”, which is all about the science of motivation and thinking -
I need some bloody motivation to finish this book, if only there was a book I could read”
It's true. We all lose our mojo at times, so I want you to know, it’s not your fault.
So don’t worry if you have lost some momentum.
The key is to start back nice and easy and work your way up.
BJ Fogg, not to be confused with Phileas, founder of the Stanford behavior design lab, suggests you,
“Take your aspirations and break them down into tiny behaviours”
So you start really small.
Rather than going all in.
Start so small that no matter what your level of motivation you simply have to do it.

2 years ago I commissioned a picture or infographic of my 2020 goals.
Yesterday another one of them came true.
And now it all makes sense I know exactly how the law of attraction works:
Let me quickly explain: Your brain would explode if it had to take in all the information that bombards you all the time. So it filters information based on your values. Or put another way - what you value you see.
When you set a goal you are making a statement to your conscious and subconscious mind that this goal is important to you. So you set up an internal filter for this goal.
Then as if by magic you start to notice the people, places, things, books, courses, wise guides you need to reach your goal.
This is the law of attraction.

Today I have a deep appreciation for my body.
For too long, I abused it with alcohol, lack of exercise and poor nutrition.
An injury ended my professional football career in my early twenties.
I’ve carried these injuries ever since.
More recently, I’ve been told to stop running, moving, deadlifting…
But my body just took me on an 88.5 mile (145 km) adventure over four days.
And I feel incredible.
Most anything is possible if you treat your body well.

“The true self is what you have built from your nature, not just what your nature started out with”: David Brooks The Road To Character
Your true or authentic self is not a static persona that sleeps beneath your actions. You chisel your authentic self from the raw material of your nature.
You are the sculptor of your being. You don’t have to allow life to force you into a shape of its choosing, you can carve our the person you want to be.
Life will knock you into shape if you allow it, but life is a second-rate sculptor. You are the master.

Have you heard someone say, or have you said, something similar?
“I coulda shoulda woulda if it were not for the drink, the problem, the luck, the other person…”
We have all heard the tales of woe, after a few drinks.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.” Robert Frost
Are you willing to take the road less travelled by?

A few years ago I was given this advice by someone I admired greatly, "Don't try to be someone you're not'. This well-intended advice was both totally WRONG and RIGHT.
The person who offered the words of wisdom had assumed I was the persona that alcohol created and I should therefore stick to being this person.
But I was trying to NOT be this persona, I desperately wanted to be me.
Have you found that people confuse your authentic self with the persona alcohol creates?

In the classic Robin Williams film, Dead Poets Society, where he plays the unorthodox teacher John Keating, he tells the boys to look at pictures of long past pupils and says,
“Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? Because you see, gentleman, these boys are not fertilising daffodils. But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you... Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys, make your life extraordinary.”
Seize every day like it’s your last.

“You are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, into a prison that you cannot taste, see or touch - a prison for your mind.”
Morpheus then offers Neo (Keano Reeves) a choice, take the blue pill and go back to your “normal” life or take the red pill and see the truth.
Morpheus offers one final warning, take the red pill and “See how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
If continuing to drink is the blue pill, then going alcohol-free is the red pill.
I took the red pill.
Once free of alcohol, the fog lifted and I could see my truth.
Life was a thousand times better without it.
So what’s it to be, the blue or red pill?

Bede, known as the father of history, wrote:
“The sparrow, I say, flying in at one door and immediately out the another, whilst he is within, is safe from the wintry storm; but after a short space of fair weather, he immediately vanishes out of your sight, into the dark winter from which he had emerged. So this life of man appears for a short space, but of what went before, or what is to follow we are utterly ignorant.”
Maybe life is like the sparrow. We get a fleeting moment in the warmth to spread our wings.
So let’s seize the day and never waste it on a hangover.

Almost all our instincts favour the short term.
The short term is easy.
It's easy to eat the cake, it's hard to resist it.
It's easy to drink, it's hard not to.
It’s easy to be negative; it's hard to be positive
It’s easy to skip the exercise class today and hard to show up consistently for the next 50 years.
Stop the rot
It is bullshit to think that I will do it perfectly tomorrow.
Tomorrow never comes, we only ever have today.
So what will you do today?

I want to create new friendships with people who are on the same adventure as me.
I have little interest in late nights and drunk people. If you want to connect let's do it at sunrise!
Tara, my girls, brothers, best mates and parents are most important.
It’s on me to find different ways to connect in ways that do not involve alcohol.
Nurture new friendships and be brave enough to realise that some old ones will no longer fulfil you.
Equally, dont give up on friendships.
Be proactive and meet on your terms in a way that will create value for you both.
A hike or bike instead of a drink.

After arriving back from a break, I was totally unprepared for the day.
I woke and my clothes were not ready, I did not have a plan,
I stumbled around tired and left the house.
I brought the wrong keys and could not get into the office. The day started on the back foot.
Why did this happen?
I did not prepare the night before.
This reminds me of the importance of not going to bed until the following day is prepared.
Clothes ready, time set and checklist ready.
You can’t change the world today unless you’re prepared the day before.

Imagine there was an invisible line that predicted greatness.
Greatness for you might be found in launching an app, writing a book, taking a course, creating a community, a business or product that could make the world a better place.
Or maybe your greatness is to raise a loving family or inspire others, quit alcohol or transform your body.
Now imagine how many people have battled and struggled their way to the edge of their greatness.
Unable to see their toes touching the line and just when they needed one more push, effort, email, phone call or conversation they gave up.
They turn around and leave their greatness behind.
Here’s the thing:
Nothing great was ever achieved easily.
It will hurt. You will fail at times. Behind the mountains, you will find more mountains.
If your greatness might help you or others, Never give up.
Show up when it rains. Keep pushing, moving one foot in front of the other.
And refuse to turn back even when it gets hard.
The world needs you because you’re different.
Keep showing up, and one day you’ll look behind you and notice a line in the distance.
Days Left On Earth: 17502
Well sort of.
I love this wisdom, but I have to admit the thought of attempting this in a practical sense scare the pants off me.
Now in truth, this feels easier if you have some sort of rhythm.
A ginger middle-aged man throwing shapes is a different game.
But anything is possible.
Because the truth is no one really cares.
They are too busy worrying about what everyone else thinks of them.
Like a hall of mirrors most humans stunt their growth because they are too self-conscious about what other people think, but no one else is paying attention as they are too busy worrying about what other people think of them.
Reflect on this:
We stop ourselves from dancing like no one’s watching or making a change, starting a new career, becoming a coach, changing the world, or becoming happy, because we are scared of something that's not even true.
No one is watching.
Whether it's dancing, starting a business, losing weight or quitting alcohol.
Everyone else is too busy worrying about what you think of them.
Hopefully, this wisdom unlocks a secret.
Never allow a false assumption that everyone is looking at you - prevent you from dancing your dance.
Whether that’s to start a new business, travel the world or write a book.
Do like like no one is watching,
Because they aren’t.

Here is a poem Eisenhower used to keep him grounded
“Take a bucket, fill it with water
Put your hand in - clear up to the wrist
Now pull it out; the hole that remains
Is a measure of how much you will be missed
The moral of this quaint example:
To just do the best you can,
Be proud of yourself, but remember
There is no indispensable man”
Newsflash the world does not revolve around you.
Every great person dies.
No one lasts forever. We are all dispensable.
Life will go on without us.
So don’t overthink it.
Show up and make a difference as best you can.
And don’t save your best for a tomorrow that might never come.

Social media is run by artificial intelligence or algorithms. These computer programs decide what content you see.
And if you play along like a good human, the robots will show your post to others.
When someone likes your post, you become like one of pavlovas dogs salivating at the thought of a reward, which encourages you to do it again.
And again.
What happens next is devastating to humans.
The robot's objective is to steal a human's time. The longer we watch, the better. The longer people stay on our posts, the more we are rewarded by views and likes
These little dopamine biscuits train us, like good dogs, to give the algorithms what they want.
And because we humans are so wonderfully adaptable, we learn how to game the system.
So we get great at creating cardboard content that hooks people in but has no nutritional value.
More time on my post, more little rewards.
Here is the reflection.
Right now millions of humans and using up their precious time to create crap cardboard content to steal other humans time!
Pretty scary isn’t it?
Time is all we have and it's being wasted creating more content to take it away.
And so much of what we consume is total dross.
It adds no value.
But it steals our time. Time to create the dross and time to consume it.
I was totally guilty of falling into this trap.
On the verge of dedicating hours every day to create stuff to please the robots. I thankfully woke up to the matrix.
And I have this journal to thank. In these moments of reflection, I often see the wood for the trees.
Yes, I will continue to share, as I love it, and I will get caught in the machine at times, but I have vowed to only share things that hopefully add some value.
This is why I love doing LIVEs and now this podcast.
Hopefully, this is a minute or two well-invested.
And the LIVE’s hopefully provide some extra motivation.
The big rub is this - reflect on your relationship with your tech. Is your behaviour being moulded by a machine?
Is this serving you?
Is it making you happier, more human?

“We can be knowledgable with other men’s knowledge, but we can’t be wise with other mens wisdom” Montaigne.
Knowledge is easy, google it.
Consistent use of knowledge is hard.
Wisdom comes from the application of knowledge.
Your challenge today is to turn your knowledge into action and, therefore, wisdom.

By saying yes to one thing, you’re saying no to a thousand other things you could be doing.
Saying yes to reading a book means saying no to a conversation with a friend, swimming, or cooking.
If we agree that saying yes means saying a thousand no’s, then it makes sense to fully immerse ourselves in what we’re doing, right?
You have chosen this activity from a thousand others. So rather than do it half-hearted while dreaming of something else, just do it. Go all in.
Stay with the present moment and enjoy the challenge. It is all you have.

“The true self is what you have built from your nature, not just what your nature started out with”:
David Brooks The Road To Character
Your authentic self is not a static persona that sleeps beneath your actions. You chisel your authentic self from the raw material of your nature.
You are the sculptor of your being.
You don’t have to allow life to force you into a shape of its choosing, you can carve the person you want to be.
Life will knock you into shape if you allow it, but life is a second-rate sculptor.
You are the master.
Who do you want to be?

Business has fallen into the same trap as psychology.
For years psychology was so focused on healing the sick that it forget its origins, to help those in need AND nurture talent and boost well-being.
Healing the sick is wonderful and vital.
But so is creating thriving individuals.
Fortunately, 20 years ago, the head of the American Psychology Association and the biggest role in psychology Martin Seligman, escaped the trap and enhanced traditional psychology by creating Positive Psychology, which is designed to use science as a way to develop well-being and performance.
Currently business is doing much better at catering for those who are suffering. Mental health first aiders, better policies.
But like psychology of 20 years ago, business is also missing a major point.
Mental health is not just about healing those who need help.
It is also about creating resilience and nurturing talent.
Better mental health leads to better performance in business and life.
Think about this.
The science of positive psychology, Seligman pioneered has clearly demonstrated that those with higher well-being perform better and therefore improve business and generate more revenue.
And they are happier whilst they do it!
If life well-being were on a spectrum from -10 to +10.
Business is starting to do good work helping those in minus numbers get back to zero.
But what about helping a +5 become a +7?
And how about providing the skills for a 7 to get to 9?
Just imagine the difference this would make to the well-being of your staff and the performance of the business.
If you want to know more drop me a direct message.

Franz Kafka was one of the 20th century’s great novelists. His short story ‘Before the law’ gave me so much courage that I wanted to share it with you.
For this episode, I will read this short story and then look at the reflection I wrote in my journal.
What does Kafka's parable mean to me?
The man wants to be handed the law on a plate. He is posturing to be let in but, deep down, does not have the spirit to make a move. To risk failure and open himself to bigger, meaner gatekeepers.
So he sits and waits - hoping for someone or something to gift him entry.
All his attention is focused on the first challenge, and he can longer see the wood for the trees.
He waits.
When in truth - these obstacles in life are meant just for us. No one else.
No one invites us in. There is never a perfect moment,
They are our gatekeepers.
And we must take action even when it scares us, or we will never know what's on the other side.
My big gatekeeper was alcohol.
For years I waited outside waiting to be welcomed in.
I even wished a soft-rock bottom that did not hurt too much would force me past the gatekeeper.
Back then, I did not have the courage to take action.
Then after years of waiting, unlike the man, I forced my way past the gatekeeper and found my courage on the other side.
Once inside, I found another bigger, scarier gatekeeper.
I wanted to leave the broking world, but everyone thought it impossible. No one gets past the gatekeeper with the golden handcuffs.
Until I did.
The great insight is that your challenges are unique to you, but in taking action in the face of fear, you grow stronger and more resilient.
Which builds the momentum to get past the next gatekeeper.
One last thing.
The gatekeepers are never-ending.
Or, as Ryan Holiday says, “behind the mountains are more mountains.’
Happiness is found trying to climb them.

We are so busy doing, getting stuff done, rushing, getting through it - for what?
In the hope that one day life will slow down and we can experience its wonders?
But this is to assume you only experience the wonder and beauty of life when you have your to-do list is done, financial freedom, promotion, retirement…
Most people are living this way. Dreaming of a perfect tomorrow that might never arrive.
Climate change, AI doomsday, war, and sickness are all possibilities.
So why wait?
Why push your happiness, joy and wonder off into an uncertain future?
What about your bank wonder, joy and happiness right now?
The raindrop, hot cup of coffee, hug, oak tree, bird song, children playing…
Wonder is not in some far-off land, it is now. You just have to look for it.

A life without problems would be horrifically dull. Yet no one welcomes obstacles.
But what if your challenges are specifically designed to make you stronger?
I like how Thomas Merton describes it, “Souls are like athletes that need opponents worthy of them. If they are to be tried and extended and pushed to the full use of their powers.”
The universe is testing you.
Do you want what resides on the other side of the obstacle?
Happiness
Success
Joy
Relief
Peace
Love
Connection…
If so, the barricade is not a reason to give up, it is a sign to push on.
Or as Marcus Aurelius, arguably the last great Roman Emperor, penned in his private journal, known as the meditations:
“The impediment to action advances action.
What stands in the way becomes the way”
Today meet your obstacles with a smile.
Thank you, Ryan Holiday, ‘The Obstacle Is The Way’ for the inspiration.

You can meditate all you like.
Exercise like a hero
Eat like a saint
But if you’re still drinking too much you’re missing an essential ingredient of performance that almost everyone overlooks.
In summary - You can’t out mediate, out exercise or eat your way out of the hole a few drinks creates.
These are the facts. Even a few drinks destroys the quality your sleep. All the science suggests that poor sleep destroys performance.
We all been there on a Friday morning after a few on a Thursday. Hows performance on these days?
And what about the day after?
As you age it takes longer to recover.
For years I was drinking and under performing. I just never questioned it. Then 8.5 years ago I stopped and it transformed ny buisness, career, income, health and happiness.
I also discovered that going alcohol-free is a superpower in a business world thats awash with booze.
So why are we not talking about tactical breaks from alcohol as a superpower performance tool?
The truth is that its a cultural blindspot. Most everyone is boozing therefore its a level playing field.
Or is it.
And the world of business is rapidly catching onto the idea of tactical breaks.
All the athletes, and elite business performers I work with have now stopped drinking.
The elite athletes and business professionals I work with are taking more and more time away from the booze.
They too have unlocked a secret alcohol-free super power.
So if we are going to talk performance surely its time that we also speak about tactical breaks from the booze.

You can't keep up with the Joneses because you will notice more Joneses living on a better street with better stuff as soon as you catch them.
So it would help if you worked longer and harder to keep up with a moving target.
You'll permanently adapt to the bigger house, better car. But you will never get the first school assembly, nativity play or netball match, sunrise or adventure back.
All the cars in the world can't mend a broken relationship that runs fallow because you're too busy trying to earn money to pay for everything to be happy.
What is important to you?
What brings your joy?
Equally, I love those who strive to achieve. I am one of them. The secret is to ground yourself in the essential things and use this as your non-negotiable foundation of success.
Family first, health, gratitude for what you have rather than chasing a material moving target.
You can wave the Joneses goodbye from this place of power because you are taking life to a place where they're not. Your foundation is not external; it's internal.
Andy
PS I have noticed that external economic success often follows from this internal foundation of success!

Earning £38 per week as a football apprentice was the wealthiest I ever felt.
Living at home with no bills, with everything taken care of by my lovely mum and dad, all I had to do was play football and afford the odd night out.
Driving a beat-up Ford Fiesta that you could start with a house key, with no heating, so I had to wear ski gloves in winter - I felt like a million dollars.
Then a few years later, I earned a million dollars and felt trapped and overwhelmed by living expenses.
I know this is ridiculous. But it's so many people's stories. The numbers will differ, but the sensation of feeling trapped by a desire for more is universal.
But there is a skilful way out that takes a ton of courage.
You stop to “actually” smell the roses.
This does not mean you stop trying to be successful or earn money. I enjoy both.
But you stop trying to find happiness in what you don’t have.
And start feeling grateful for what you do have right now.
A hug with a loved one
The cup of tea made with love.
Cuddles with a pet.
Laughs with friends.
These moments create happiness but are too often missed trying to earn more money to be happy!
So today, focus on one thing that brings you joy in your life.
Here’s mine - A cup of coffee while I write these words.

Days Left On Earth: 17516
' It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.' - Seneca.
As I read these words from one of my heroes, Seneca, the roman philosopher, all I could think about was death. Even writing the word 'death' feels uncomfortable. To be clear, my thoughts were happy ones. I suddenly realised that no one has the right to a long life. Fait could take it away at any moment. There are no guarantees: Saints, heroes and villains all pass at some point. Just because you are a 'good' person does not mean you will live until a ripe old age passes serenely in your sleep.
In this moment of reflection, I feel strong and confident that I am making the most of this beautiful life. Equally, I understand that this is easy to say as I write these words feeling fit as a fiddle.
But what of fate?
The drunk driver, cancer, heart disease or sickness. Present-day health has nothing to say about such events. Life is so fragile. It takes the slightest slip, and it's over. Please understand me. This is not meant to sound morbid, and it did not feel like my mind was wandering toward my demise.
It was strangely liberating.
To know if I left the building of life, I could do so safe in the knowledge I have lived it.
What now?
Do I start to walk across roads with my eyes closed?
Why should I care about living well in the present if I am fearless of the future?
This mind exercise produced a simple answer:
I am more determined than ever to enjoy every second of this beautiful life. I will eat well and exercise to nourish my body with the elements required to thrive. It gave me the energy to extract every last drop from this beautiful life.
I will look after my mind as though it were a precious gem that should never be lost.
And I will never let a hangover rob me of another minute.
It is time to lift my head and smile at the stranger, for I am not scared of life anymore. No one or nothing can take it away from me before it's time.
I am ready, born ready. There is nothing to take, only extra to add. I will not sit around and wait for it to decide my ending.
I will write my script from this day on. If my play last's for another 20 minutes or 70 years, I will enjoy every second as best I can.
What will your story say?
Days left on earth: 17517
“This space that has been granted to us rushes by so speedily and so swiftly that all save a very few find life at an end, just when they are getting ready to live.” Seneca
The majority have it wrong.
They are waiting under the illusion at some point in the future, everything will be perfect, and they can live happily ever after.
But it rarely works out this way.
So they wait until it’s too late and only start to live as they can see the end.
The regrets of the dying are all around us.
So here’s an idea.
Start living now.
Really living.
Breathe life into your bones. Stop to smell the roses. Smile through adversity. Hug your loved ones like it's the last time. Connect with old friends, catch a sunrise, not tomorrow or at a later date - today.
Days Left On Earth: 17519
We live like we're immortal under the assumption that there will be enough' time when we might not wake up tomorrow.
The brutal reality is all around us, yet we often choose to ignore it until it's too late.
A top regret of the dying, according to Bronnie Ware, is, "I wish I had not worked so hard."
Ware's words are not pessimistic. They are joyous.
Living under a false assumption of a guaranteed tomorrow means we miss the bliss in the present.
These are not throw-away platitudes; our happiness lives in our ability to pause to smell the coffee.
Here is a radical idea.
What if every day was a lifetime? How would you live it?
Would you hug your loved ones and breath the feeling into your bones?
Perhaps you would savour a moment in nature or stop to smell the roses?
A conversation with a loved one might take on a whole new dimension if it were your last.
Or the small talk with a stranger might be enthused with loving energy that leaves a glow.
If today is your lifetime, how will you live it?
Days left on earth: 17519
In this episode, I tell you why 'Less But More' is a more efficient approach for those early mornings where you need to cram in as much as possible, but in reality, it's Quality > Quantity.
By listening for just a few minutes, you will learn how to make your morning routines much more efficient and why doing less work will make your results higher quality.
We spend so much time trying to optimise time, with the dream of finally getting on top of the to-do list, yearning to complete the bucket list. All the while, there is background anxiety of time slipping away.
Here is a radical idea - could you do much less but better?
Rather than cramming your day with ten things to do before breakfast, could you do one really well?
With all your energy, commitment and presence?
Let me know what you choose.

Today I am 48, and if I live to the same age as the Queen, I am halfway.
Put another way; I have 2496 weeks left
Or 17520 days
Or not.
When I first thought about how few weeks I had left a few years ago, I freaked out.
I had so much I wanted to do and not enough time.
But I now feel the power of embracing the shortness of life.
I might get as long as the Queen, or I might not.
Today could be 17520 days until I depart this planet.
Or it could be one day.
I don’t know. None of us does,
Yet I was guilty of years of assuming I had forever. Therefore I could put all my dreams and goals off into the distant future.
You could hold a grudge or carry resentment because you would get over it in a few days.
But when you accept the randomness of your time left. Every day becomes a gift.
There is no point holding a grudge or allowing the news to piss you off all day.
Or putting off important things into a future that is uncertain what you could do today.
Forget the cliche.
Why not live each day as if it were your last?
How would you behave?
Would you pause and hug your loved ones with all your mind & body?
Would you feel grateful in your bones for the song of a bird?
Would you smile more, love more, and enjoy more?
So I plan to dedicate this podcast and blog to daily reflection.
There might be 17520 episodes. Or not.
Each day I will share something from my private journal that I have never really shared before.
These reflections will be deep and more philosophical.
I hope you enjoy and if you know anyone who might benefit, please share.

Inspired by Dickens’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ and Tony Robbins here is a visualisation that will blow your mind.
Do you recall how Scrooge went to bed a horrid, selfish, tight-fisted, scrooge of a man consumed by a limiting belief that being mean had helped him become successful.
But then something happened that transformed his life.
He was visited by the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.
Each of the ghosts helped Scrooge feel the pain of how his limiting belief was hurting others and himself.
Scrooge was lucky. He got to LIVE this pain in such a powerful way in the past, present and future that his limiting belief, that he had to be mean to be successful, was crushed. He could feel it in his bones that being a grump was not making him successful, it was destroying him.
So in an instant, he changed
He woke with a gift of a new belief - rather than being mean and selfish he would give joy to others.
Nothing else had changed, only his belief.
This is the power of our beliefs.
As a gift to you, here is a mind exercise inspired by Scrooge and Tony Robbins that has the power to transform lives.
It’s about time we leveraged the power of technology to improve our relationship with alcohol and Jonny is doing exactly that.

Listen in as I share my 10 top tips to love any social occasion alcohol-free!
And listen out for the unexpected ones!
The focus of the first series of the podcast was about how people find meaning and purpose. The major insight was that most people find their meaning after a fall or stumble in life. And this is exactly how I found my purpose. Stopping drinking was a major social and business hurdle for me and the learning provided has filled my life with meaning.
The second series of the podcast will focus on my alcohol-free heroes. Those brave and courageous AF-adventurers who help inspire people take a break and transform their lives. For me, going alcohol-free is the ultimate life and performance tool and my hope is that this series will inspire, motivate and encourage even more people to join me on the fun side of the island!
Nilesh Satguru - How lifestyle medicine might save you
This is the last episode of the series. My aim for the first series was to warm up the podcast, and discover how our guests found their meaning and purpose in what they now do. Having already launched almost 30 episodes, with tens of thousands of listens it is time to get back to my roots!
For the second series we are going to talk about all things alcohol-free. I plan to share some of the most inspirational stories from my alcohol-free heroes, and introduce you to the world's leading alcohol-free experts and authors to enlighten us with their wisdom.
And I can’t wait!
So I wanted to close this series with one of my favorite conversations. Nliesh Satguru is a friend, and someone I admire greatly for his work as a lifestyle medicine practitioner and coach. I have helped train some of his medical students on the wonders of alcohol-free and equally Nilesh keeps me updated on the best science that prompts health and wellbeing.
A Lifestyle medicine practitioner is a GP that has added the speclism to deliver medicine through lifestyle changes. So rather than prescribing pills, Nilesh might prescribe exercise, or a plant-based diet.
I love the lifestyle medicine concept and I am sure you will love this final conversation of the series.
Alright let’s do this.
Jo Roberts - Finding your true-self in the wilderness
Jo Roberts is the Chief Executive of the Wilderness Foundation Charity.
Jo focuses on the effects of wilderness on developing sound youth leadership built on environmental awareness and ethics, and developing positive wellbeing and mental health in young people who are vulnerable or at risk.
The wilderness foundation also helps those who have suffered domestic abuse, or addiction reconnect with themselves through wilderness experiences.
And the Wilderness Foundation headquarters are just up the road in Essex, this is what I love about doing the podcast. I had no idea. And next week I will be joining Jo Hall, who has featured on the podcast and Jo Roberts for a walk and talk as we check out their 400 acre wilderness site near Chelmsford.
I love the idea that wilderness experiences can heal and reconnect us to what's important. This is a subject I am becoming more interested in, and my aim is to inspire you to get outside and leverage the power of nature.
Also do check out their website which is https://wildernessfoundation.org.uk/ as they are always looking for volunteers and any donations will be greatly appreciated.
Alright kick back, let's do this.

Monday 20th Emma Prideaux - (Alcohol-Free) Non-runner at 40, to potentially UK's fastest EVER!
Aged 40 Emma Prideaux was a Mum of three, who had not run since she was 16. Her daughter Rosa, another fantastic athlete, was training with Christian Dailly who you met on the podcast before and if you have not listened to this conversation make sure to go back and revisit. It's a cracker.
After watching Rosa make great progress, Emma became interested in Christians Zone1 health and longevity method of low-intensity training. So aged 40 she started to train with Christian using the exact same methods as her daughter Rosa.
Fast Forward 8 years and Emma is on track to become the fastest EVER age-rated marathon runner in the UK. She has never been to a physio and keeps getting faster and faster!
It's quite unbelievable.
Emma has a cracker of a story and is full of wisdom that might totally change the way you feel around age, exercise and health!
Alright, let's do this!
This recording is taken from an instagram LIVE with an alcohol-free hero of mine. You will notice the audio is not of the same quality as the full podcast, but equally these are great stories to share. If you love the alcohol-free space, then you will love these midweek chats.
Alright let's do this,
Andy
Catherine Gray is the author of one of my all-time favourite books, “The Unexpected Joy Is Being Sober.”. Not only is this a great quit-lit book, but it’s also a cracking read.
Since the runaway success of her first book, Catherine went on to write the Unexpected Joy Of Being Single and Unexpected Joy Of Being Ordinary.
So much has happened since we last spoke and I can’t wait to share Catherine’s story, and also talk about her latest book, ‘Sunshine Warm Sober.’
You are going to LOVE this one, so settle in and enjoy the ride.
Alright, let’s do this.
Cassie has a superpower - kindness. I first met Cassie after delivering my first ever TEDX talk, ‘The Limitless Pill.”. We instantly became friends, and Cassie is a key part of everything I do. Especially now I am turning my focus back towards the alcohol-free space.
Cassie is also the founder of alcohol-free essex, a fantastic mum and a wonderful lady.
I am sure you will find so much you can identify within our conversation about all things alcohol-free.
Alright let’s do this.
Freddie Bennett or Freddie Wellies as I like to call him is an Alcohol-Free Superhero, although he is clearly missing part of his superhero outfit as in most photo’s he is half naked.
Freddie is also a record-breaker. The fastest ever marathon runner. Dramatic pause. Dressed as a fisherman, wellies and all.
During our conversation, Freddie shares his powerful backstory and how he turned his life and why he is now on a mission to inspire 1 billion people to transform their relationship with alcohol. And I will join them every step of the way.
I love what Freddie and Sharon are doing with the Over The Influence Podcast and the community they are building. I am a massive supporter of what they are doing and we will do lots together over the coming years.
This is one of those conversations that's full of laughter, emotions, inspiration and a rallying call to all your alcohol adventurers to unite to collectively make a difference in the world.
Alright let’s do this.
Matt Pink, how to socialise without alcohol and LOVE IT!
Matt Pink aka Better_Life_Guy is making waves in the alcohol-free space. His social media is inspiring tons of alcohol-free adventures and the sober curious to have fun, be social and love their AF adventure.
What I love about Matt’s story is that he trained with me in the early stages of his AF journey and is now out there inspiring many others to do the same. On a personal note - this is my major focus - trying to inspire more people to get out there and inspire others!
To take his development to the next level, Matt will also train with me again to become an accredited coach to add a world-class qualification and even more credibility to what he is doing in the alcohol-free space.
I am super proud of what he has achieved and will always be a massive supporter.
On September the 18th, Matt is hosting, in his words, ‘The first-ever no-booze cruise up the Thames in London.” Since the time of recording this event has sold out many times over.
I will be joining Matt on the 18th throwing some shapes, well maybe not, and having a great time without any booze in sight!
You will love this chat about sober socialising with Matt and why we believe when you stop drinking your social life gets even better!
Alright let’s do this!
Dave Cornthwaite, Say Yes More to adventure!
Dave Cornthwaite started saying yes to adventures in his mid-twenties and created a lifetime mission called the Expedition1000 with the aim of completing twenty-five different journeys, each over 1000 miles, spending less than £1000 and using a different form of non-motorised transport. So far he has completed fifteen, just ten to go! And these amazing adventures take a lot less time than you think.
So what’s stopping you and what’s stopping me from great adventures?
The biggest barrier is our mindset.
We are too quick to say no to adventures and close down the possibility.
When Dave asked a group of people if they wanted to go wild camping too many said no, but some said yes! Those who attended the impromptu camping session were encouraged to say yes more, which inspired Dave to start a movement called, ‘SayYesMore’
The SayYesMore movement has over 10,000 members from all over the world. They even have their own festival called the ‘Yestival’.
Dave’s message is so powerful - what would happen if you started to say yes to adventure more often?

Nick Littlehales - World’s first sleep coach, busting the 8-hour sleep myth!
Nick Littlehales went from a slumberland sales executive to the world's first-ever sleep coach with Manchester United. Alex Fergeson had heard of his groundbreaking ideas about sleep and performance and brought him in seeking the marginal gains that make all the difference. Which they did and Nick was present for the class of 1992 treble-winning side!
Following the success his sleep coaching skills had achieved in professional football, Nick was asked to become the sleep coach for the Team GB cycling team, which produced one of the greatest ever cycling performances in the 2012 Olympics.
But it gets better, Nick was then instrumental in the marginal gains philosophy that Sir David Brailsford brought to Team Sky in a bid to be the first-ever British team to win the Tour De France, which they did.
And if there was a symbol of this philosophy it was seeing the rider’s mattresses being ferried from hotel to hotel to optimize their sleep. This was Nick's idea!
Nick has a brilliant story and tons of wisdom to share, you are going to love this one!

Jo Hall - Finding the courage to help transform the wellbeing of the NHS
Just a few months ago Jo Hall was working extremely hard as part of an NHS team when something happened that was to change the course of Jo’s life.
It started with a proactive break from alcohol, which led to a personal development journey and health transformation. As part of this adventure, Jo committed to training with me and is now a member of our fantastic self-development community the Mind&Body Gym and is currently training with us on the AreteWay Coach accreditation to become a coach.
Jo could see that while the amazing NHS staff and partners were giving their all to keep everyone else healthy, they were suffering themselves.
As you will discover during our chat, Jo found the courage to take a gamble and approach her manager with an idea that might help improve the well-being of the overworked NHS staff and partners.
Jo’s courage paid off and led to the creation of 'Live Life Connected' a new personal development programme that's already reached over 45,000 NHS staff and partners with the aim of transforming their wellbeing and I am so proud to be a part of this brilliant initiative!!
Jo’s great story is a wonderful example of how collectively we can move the needle in a positive direction.
You will love this conversation as we follow Jo from her moment of struggle to the point at which she is now on the verge of rolling ‘The Live Life Connected’ out to many thousands more!

Once you know how to create these preconditions you optimise your health. It’s that simple.
These health pre-conditions create the same foundation an athlete requires to win gold, and the everyday hero needs to protect against disease, age strong and flourish mentally and physically.
I have been trying to bring Christians “Zone1 Health and Longevity Formula” into the mainstream for years as his approach is not just excellent, it is WORLD CLASS! So make sure to come and join us.
If you want to know how to take back control of your health and learn how to LIVE young and strong to look and feel years younger then this conversation is a great place to start.

Jenny Thompson - Why growing your own vegetables is our greatest well-being tool
When I first read the ‘Blue Zones: 9 Lessons For Living Longer, by People Who Have Lived the Longest’’ by Dan Buettner, which explores the pockets of people who live the longest, healthy and thriving lives, I noticed a trend.
Many of these healthy outliers, who were fit as fiddles into their 90’s and beyond all grew their own vegetables.
This observation sat in my mind for years, until I met with Nick Littlehales, the world's leading sleep coach.. Nick, who will also appear on the podcast, and I started to talk about the benefits of natural daylight on the body. This was followed by a workshop with our ongoing self-development community the MBG with the chairman of the UK’s forest bathing committee Gary Evans, who explained the almost unbelievable health benefits of time spent in nature.
Next, I reflected on my podcast chat with Dr Alan Desmond in the first episode, who explored the science and benefits behind plant-based nutrition.
Then, finally, the penny dropped.
Growing your own fruit and veg could be one of the best activities that we could all possibly partake in.
And that's exactly what Jenny and I will explore in this episode.
Jenny’s Instagram, The_Organic_Allotment_Girl is one of my favourites. Jenny’s posts inspire me every day and she has such a great story that I can’t wait to share it with you all.
You will love this chat, and I am positive you might even be tempted to take part in the latest wellbeing craze and grow your own.
Alright
Let’s do this.
Drew Schapper, PhD rockstar still rocking the after party alcohol-free!
There is almost an expectation for our rockstars and creatives to be hardcore partying, addicted messes, who find genius at the bottom of a glass. Drew Schapper followed the well worn path to the verge of destruction.
But something happened, which we will explore during our conversation, that changed the course of his life.
Drew has just written a beautiful book, ‘After Party: The Path to Sobriety’, which showcases the real brutal essence of rock star addiction, and how Drew fought back to sobriety and wants to inspire millions of others to do the same.
I have known Drew since the very start of his alcohol-free adventure, when he decided to take a OneYearNoBeer challenge. From his first post you could feel his pain and artistry shining through. His facebook posts into our group became legendary for their honesty and prose.
Even though I have stepped down from OneYearNoBeer to start various new initiatives to help people reach their full potential, I feel so privileged that we started a movement that’s inspired people such as Drew, who in turn is now attempting to inspire millions!
During this conversation we explore the full crazy tale of how Drew went from a Phd, to a rockstar, to a sobriety superhero.
Drew is charming, articulate and has a powerful message to share. I feel privileged to be even a tiny part of his story and what a story it is.
So strap yourself in. This is a roller coaster ride.
Alright let's do this
Jules Evans: Philosopher and author of a book that transformed my life
Every now and then you read a book that changes your life. Jules’s Evan’s book, “Philosophy For Life And Other Dangerous Situations” did that for me.
I knew nothing about the great philosophers, although, without me knowing, their wisdom had already made a huge impact on my life.
The reason I am writing these words is that 10 years ago I read, ‘Awaken the Giant Within’ by Anthony Robbins. There was one line in that book that changed my life, “It's not events that shape our lives, but our beliefs about them.”.
When I read those words, it was like an explosion going off in my mind. For the first time in my life I realised that I could control how I felt by changing my beliefs about the things that were happening to me,”
This one realisation was the catalyst that transformed my business, health and happiness.
Then I read Philosophy for Life and discovered the true source of Anthony Robbins' wisdom.
Over 2000 years ago the great Stoic Philosopher Epictetus said, “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters. “
Epictetus also went on to say that we only ever have control over one thing, our beliefs. Therefore we have TOTAL control of our lives, because if we can control our beliefs about the events that happen to us we can control the emotions and actions that follow.
You will love this conversation with Jules, who has so much timely wisdom to share. During this conversation you will discover how a freak skiing accident helped Jules heal from a life of misadventure with drugs, and led him all the way back to the Stoics of Ancient Greece.
Jules' story is like a great adventure, and there is so much more to come. So kick back and prepare to have your mind taken on a great adventure into the world of philosophy and other dangerous situations.

Why EVERYONE must strength train
We lose 10% of our muscle mass every decade after 40. If we don’t use it we lose it.
A strong body supports a strong mind, plus you look great!
In my opinion, the gyms of the world should be full of 60,70,80 & 90-year-olds.
Forget battering yourself with HITT sessions and high-intensity workouts. Start something that you can maintain for life - strength training.
And if you really love HITT you will build a strong foundation so you can enjoy it without always being injured.
Maybe reflect on this: Why would you not strengthen your body and mind as you age?
Who is the age police who suggests we should GIVE UP?
Come on.
Picture yourself super strong as you age still chasing the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids!
My challenge to you is to find a great trainer, join a gym, get on youtube and experiment in the right way and start strengthening your body today.
Let me know if you already strength train or if you are going to take action?
Adrian Webster - Milkman to Motivational Guru
When you witness someone performing at their peak it’s a beautiful thing, whether that's on the sporting field, in business or when delivering a speech.
This week's guest Adrian Webster is one of the greatest motivational speakers I have ever seen.
Every month I invite a special guest speaker to host a workshop for our on-going self-development community the Mind&Body Gym. Adrians talk was exceptional, it was like watching a master at work. There were tears, loads of laughs and tons of learning. And you could feel the passion behind every word.
Adrian has clearly found his calling and his Arete.
But it wasn’t always this way.
Adrian started out as a riot police officer. After realising this was not the career for him, he spent several years helping to grow a milk business by selling door to door. To help reframe the experience of rejection as he knocked on door after door he started to give them names. Instead of taking rejection personally he would look forward to seeing how many ‘Neg Ferret’s’ or ‘Bloaters’ he would meet.
Eventually Adrian left the milk business and moved into IT sales. However the skills he mastered during his time as a milk salesman enabled him to become one of the top salesmen in the whole industry, eventually running a team of over 150 sales staff.
As the team grew Adrian started to motivate the whole team with stories of ‘Neg Ferret’s’ and ‘Bloaters’ which evolved into his first book, ‘The Polar Bear Pirates: A grown up book for kids at work’.
During one of these talks a client happened to be in the office and was so impressed that he asked Adrian to deliver a talk to his staff and the rest as you will find out is history.
Adrian is a wonderful example of how you can grow into your passion during the many twists and turns of life.
I hope you enjoy our chat, which is hilariously funny at times with a powerful message.
Alright let's do this
You can achieve whatever you desire if you have just three things.
Time, consistency, and ability to handle failure
Let me explain:
As Bill Gates once said, “We tend to massively overestimate what we can achieve in a year and underestimate what we can achieve in a decade.”
You can achieve virtually anything in 10 years - fact.
It would be totally possible to go from a total beginner to climbing Everest in 10 years. All that’s required is consistent incremental action during this period.
It's consistency that most people struggle with.
Showing up day after day to incrementally build a skill takes effort and time. This is the key to your dreams. Most people won’t stay the distance and they also lack consistency.
All you have to do is keep showing up and your skillset will build to such a point you can climb your Everest.
The biggest killer of consistency is alcohol.
That’s why removing it is another key to your dreams.
When you combine alcohol-free consistency with a longer-term view you can achieve ANYTHING!
Let me know, what is the Everest goal you will summit using your alcohol-free consistency?
Let's do this!

Dr Alan Desmond: Starting a Plant-Based Revolution
You will often hear me say what matters most about nutrition is that you care about what you eat. If you care about what you fuel your body and mind with, you’re on the right track regardless of the style of food you choose.
Whether that's Mediterranean, paleo, vegetarian or vegan.
If you care, you’re halfway there.
However there is now a mountain of scientific evidence to support the health benefits of a particular type of diet - the wholefood, plant based diet.
Nutrition is an emotive subject and it feels like everyone has an opinion. But I implore you to listen to what Dr Alan has to say, it really might change your life.
Why?
Because Dr Alan is one of the leading voices in the world of plant-based nutrition. He walks the talk, and backs up EVERYTHING with hard science. Plus his day job as a gastroenterologist means he is at the forefront of gut health and sees upclose the consequences of certain types of diet.
No one is better qualified to have the conversation about nutrition than Dr Alan.
Dr Alan is my go to guy in the world of nutrition and as you will discover we have become great friends I also have a small part to play in Alan’s rise to the forefront of plant-based nutrition.
You will LOVE this conversation and all I ask is that you leave your mind and heart open as you listen to Dr Alan’s cracking story and the nutritional wisdom he shares.
Alright let's do this
There is one way to make every day a great day, and that’s to feel grateful.
Gratitude is a superpower emotion that dissolves negativity and connects us with the positive.
Not in a happy-clappy way. In a real deep meaningful way.
I would love to know what is the one thing you are grateful for today?
A powerful message that keeps being retold on the podcast is how our greatest struggle can often turn out to be our greatest gift.
One of my first guests, Shahroo Izadi, the UK's answer to Brene Brown, was addicted to food from the age of 10 and wrestled with this problem for years.
Shahroo now finds deep meaning and purpose in helping others to transform their lives by changing their relationship with food through her books such as The Kindness Method and The Last Diet.
Another fantastic guest on the show was Drew Schapper, PhD rockstar who fell into drink and drugs. After turning his life around to health, fitness, and family he wrote a brilliant book,“After Party” to inspire others to do the same!
Recently I interviewed Matt Pink aka @thebetterlifeguy LIVE and once again he shared a story that’s every parent's worst fear, and after almost taking his own life, he is now on a mission to help others make their life BETTER!
Equally, I fully acknowledge that when we are going through our hard times they just hurt.
However, the message I really want to share through the podcast is that over time, our biggest mess can eventually become our most powerful message.
I would love to know which of your biggest struggles has turned into a story that could help others?
When I first started my alcohol-free (AF) adventure back in February 2014 AF-drinks were hard to find and tasted average at best.
Today, they taste better than the alcoholic ones!!
This is because the alcohol-free revolution is here. The reason for the explosion of AF drinks is that we are demanding quality grownup beverages that don’t contain the part that acts like Kryptonite to our dreams!
My guest this week, Johnny Johnson is a brilliant example of how going alcohol-free can unleash your creative & business superpowers.
After taking a break from the booze, Johnny was frustrated at the lack of quality beers available. But rather than talk a BIG game and then do nothing, armed with the consistency and clarity that comes from alcohol-free Johnny actually did something about it.
With ZERO experience in making beer, Johnny sourced an expert alcohol-free beer maker and created his own brand called UNTLD.BEER. And I LOVE IT!!
Not only do the bottles look cool, but they also taste great.
During this episode, we explore the brilliant story of how Johnny now finds deep meaning in providing alcohol-free beers and IPA’s to fuel the AF revolution.
Alright, let’s do this
Here’s my definition of success: Someone who is leading a vibrant, energised life full of contribution and purpose often in service of others.
As part of my research over the last 10 years I have noticed several habits that most successful people use.
Which of these habits do you feel is most important?
Don’t do what the 80% are doing
I refer to the brilliant Mark Twain, “When you find yourself on the side of the majority it's time to pause and reflect.”
Just because the majority do it does not make it right.
Here’s an idea. What if they all have it wrong?
What if we have discovered something on the fun side of the island that is so powerful but totally overlooked by the masses?
Well, we have.
NOT drinking is a superpower in a land where everyone drinks.
“In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!”
How will you use your alcohol-free advantage today?
Do you experience a constant digital tug towards your technology? Do you check your emails way more than is necessary? Do you double screen by flicking through your phone whilst watching TV? Have you forgotten what it's like to be bored or to simply switch off?
If so you might be heading towards digital burnout and today's guest experienced exactly that. After suffering a breakdown due to inbox-anxiety, Laura Willis had to learn the art of managing her devices to leverage their power while avoiding the overload.
I first met Laura when she was delivering a talk on how to better manage technology to improve digital well-being.
During the talk, which we cover in this episode, she presented a slide that made me so sad.
The slide was a representation of how our "free time” has developed over the last 13 years.
Free time is those moments in life when you can just do what you wish.
Over the last 13 years, our work time and free time has not really changed. But what we do with our free time has altered dramatically as you will discover during this episode. But I warn you in advance this stat will make your heart sink. Equally, as it did for me, it might inspire you to transform your relationship with your tech.
After a moment of enlightenment during a meditation, Laura experienced a vision of her holding a phone that she could not escape, so she set out on a mission to transform her relationship with her tech.
This led to the creation of “Shine Offline”, whose aim is to “Improve employee focus, collaboration, wellbeing and work-life balance in an ‘always on’ world”.
You will LOVE this conversation, Laura has so much timely wisdom to offer and a great story to share.
Alright, let’s do this.
The no1 thing to know about positivity is that it's a skill you can learn and then train.
Just imagine through your own efforts you can become more positive and avail of the benefits this offers such as improved health, happiness, income and recent studies show you will even live longer!
Here are some quick positivity tips:
List three things you are grateful for, this is a superpower power positivity technique.
Take a break from alcohol and watch the dark cloud lift and the positive vibes flow.
If you don’t have all the evidence then you have a choice as to what you think. So train yourself to take one of the potential positive outcomes rather than defaulting to the negative.

Episode 2. LIVE: HELP I’ve lost my motivation
Don’t panic, it happens to us all.
I clearly remember writing my second book, “Let’s Do This”, which is all about the science of motivation and thinking - I need some bloody motivation to finish this book, if only there was a book I could read” haha!
It's true. We all lose our mojo at times, so I want you to know, it’s not your fault.
So don’t worry if you have lost some momentum. The key is to start back nice and easy and work your way up.
BJ Fogg, not to be confused with Phileas, founder of the Stanford behaviour design lab, suggests you, “Take your aspirations and break them down into tiny behaviours”
So you start really small.
This is the opposite of what most people do, this is why I like the way Fogg’s mind works.
Rather than going all in.
Start so small that no matter what your level of motivation you simply have to do it.
If you want to find your motivation to go jogging again.
Put your gym kit on, open the door, breathe in the fresh air then sit back down again.
That’s it.
The next day at the same time, put your kit on and walk outside then come back in again.
The following day walk to the top of the street then increase it daily by another street.
After a week you are still in the ridiculously easy territory that with almost no motivation you can keep showing up.
However something powerful has changed.
You are forming a habit.
The distance is irrelevant. What’s important is that at the same time each day your brain and body are getting ready to move.
The fact that you started tiny, allowed you to start showing up.
The showing up is more important than the distance.
All of a sudden a habit is forming, which requires little motivation as now its running on autopilot.
Sounds too simple, but we are simple creatures, so try it.
Let me know if you found your mojo, by joining me on my LIVE show “The Funside of the Island with Andy Ramage” which you join every day at 07:15 am BST by following @andyamageoffical on FB, Instagram and on YT search for Andy Ramage.

What if there were another way, a way that obliterates shame, and leads to lasting change, empowerment and happiness?
Let me introduce today’s guest who has discovered that kindness is the key that can transform your life.
Meet Shahroo Izadi, recently dubbed at the UK’s answer to Brene Brown, who is a speaker, coach and author of the brilliant “The Kindness Method” and “The Last Diet”.
Shahroo and I first became friends following a meeting at our Pan Macmillan Bluebird launch of our first books, The Kindness Method’ and ‘The 28-day Alcohol-free Challenge,” since then we have spent many hours waxing lyrical about all things behavioural change.
Shahroo’s message is powerful and real. Her own struggles with body image and weight led to what she describes as an addiction to food from a very young age.
We discover during our conversation that like so many great thinkers Shahroo’s biggest struggle became her greatest gift and she now devotes her life to helping people make empowered changes to their wellbeing and lives using the power of kindness.
I really hope you enjoy this conversation with Shahroo who is beautifully articulate, funny, inspirational and drops so much wisdom that you will not only hear the story behind her story, but also leave with a new super-skill that might change your life - kindness.
Alright let’s do this…
